Stopped by for lunch today. Ordered the 8" pepperoni pizza and garlic cheese bread with marina. Service is was slow with just one waitress taking care of the whole restaurant and bar initially. The sooner you get that the better. The garlic cheese bread came out first. It is a good crusty bread with olive oil, garlic and mozzarella cheese on it. Baked just enough to melt the cheese. It was sprinkled with herbs. The pizza had a great, lightly, golden brown crust. Plenty of mozzarella cheese, with a nicely spiced tomato sauce. You get close to 3 huge pepperoni's on each slice. Ate in Westerville with my family this week and we were really unimpressed and underwhelmed. Wife said her lasagna tasted like it was prepared from a frozen dinner. As far as my Italian sub goes, what a rip-off! Fourteen bucks for a sub should allow one to expect a decent portion of meat on it--not here. A single slice of ham topped by a single slice of capicola and a few slices of salami with some cheese and veggies was the entire sandwich! But, to be fair, the sub bun was quite good. Nice Italian place for pizza, stromboli, wings, and pasta. Went for a late lunch and decided to split the entire meal starting with calamari, house stromboli, wedding soup and tiramisu. Calamari was perfectly cooked and incredibly paired with feta cheese and banana peppers. I didn't realize that was a flavor combo that I'd enjoy so much. Soup was so good that I forgot to take a picture before we devoured it. The pizza and stromboli came with a 30 min cook time warning so we planned our meal with appetizer and soup for the wait and, man was it worth it. Perfectly crisp crust, not overly full of bread except for the end pieces like it should be. Fully stuffed with meats and cheese and so much flavor. Definitely worth the entire meal. I was hyped for the tiramisu since the other food was so great, but we were thrown off by the frozen dessert. Don't know if it was supposed to be frozen since it was a bit hard to take a spoon through it, but the flavor was good. Overall, definitely worth the visit and recommendation. read more

I really am having a hard time figuring out any part of the visit that went right. The service was horrible. The food was okay but not good. A trip to Frazoli's would have been way better. What could I say about a perfect Stromboli? You almost think they invented it. It was baked and cut perfectly around the marinara. The Italian fries were not what I thought they were. This place is amazing. Took my family here while the visited me while I work out of town. We had a calzone, wings, and a house salad. Wings were big and juicy, the calzone was giant and stuffed with sausage cheese and pepperoni, the salads were even great. This review was written with a specific reason for the super low scoring. At the beginning of the month, I took my kids to Carsonie's in Westerville for dinner. I've gotten take out a few time from there, but this was the first time dining in. The restaurant is pretty cozy (snug), with lots of locals eating there. The server was nice enough, and the food was average. I used the scanning feature to pay for my bill, and a receipt was sent to my email. When I got home, I looked at my bill. I had ordered a small Stella Artois and saw that the server had charged me for both a small and large Stella Artois. Normally I would've just said, oh well. That's life, but the large beer was over eight dollars. I called them and told them my problem and the woman I talked to said the were putting in for a refund, that would return to my credit card within ten business days. Well, it's been more than ten business days and no refund. Obviously, my problem was exactly that to them. My problem. Won't go back and will tell others about my experience. read more

This place has been here forever, and somehow I keep passing it by. I used to live on this side of town and run errands right here, but always ended up eating somewhere else. I'd been to the one on Lane and it was pretty good. Today I finally stopped in at this one, and it's not bad. It's a sort of cross between a mom and pop Italian place and a sports bar. Much smaller inside than I expected, and I bet it's crazy when it's full. There's a big covered patio too. I had lunch on a Wednesday, and arrived just after their buffet ended (11-2 Wednesdays.) It didn't look very big- pizza, pasta, breadsticks. They let me grab a slice of pizza as they packed up; it was old and cold, but still pretty good, so I bet it's fine when it's fresh. I went with the Italian Stallion sub, with a side of pasta salad. The sub was big, on good bread, with very good fillings. The meat was tasty and there was plenty of it. The veggies were fresh, even the tomatoes (not garden fresh, but a lot better than most pink plastic ones you get.) The pasta salad was meh. It was made with orzo (I think- it was slightly bigger than some orzos I've had.) And there just wasn't much flavor. I picked at it, but was not impressed. Lived in Westerville my whole life...forty years and never been here. I have been missing out. Got the medium wings and a medium pepperoni pizza. The wings are AWESOME!! Great flavor, crunchy and just the right size. The pizza was great, very cheesy (just the way I like it) and we did not get extra cheese. The pizza sauce tastes like it was made just before it was put on the pizza, super fresh. The waitress was nice and attentive and they are generous with their drinks. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy, it doesn't matter if you're a Buckeye fan or not. Living in the area for a couple years now it's been on my list of places to try...why did I wait so long? I placed a to go order for Millie's Meatball Hoagie with wedding soup and a walnut cranberry chicken salad for my wife. We were blown away by the food. Stopped in to eat for the first time. Last time I had Carsonie's was over 20 yrs ago when my job ordered carryout for the office. Boyfriend and I ordered a meatball hoagie to share, I had Italian Wedding Soup, and he had salad. The bread on the hoagie was soft with a few crunchy spots but was very good. The meatballs were large but could have used more sauce on the bun. Josey was very accommodating with our requests of a side of extra sauce and extra salad dressing. We went on Saturday nite. It was around 8:30p so I called ahead and put Stromboli orders in since those take longer to cook. I had a pina colada (best in Columbus and cruise ship worthy!) and veggie Stromboli. The others had the original Stromboli. It was wonderful and also best in Columbus. This is the only place for Stromboli!!!! The small house salad is huge and loaded. Waitresses are very nice and friendly. There is an outdoor area too but we chose to sit inside. First off I will say if I could give this place zero stars, I would. The waitress Karleigh was the only good part of this visit. To start off we ordered mozzarella sticks, which are branded as having Italian seasoning. These sticks were not seasoned at all, and you can tell they were nothing more than frozen sticks heated up on the microwave. I ordered a calzone. I ordered extra cheese and fillings. When it came out it was a huge puff pastry with some greasy cheese coming out. I cut into the calzone and had to use a sawing motion to get it to cut. There was no filling, only aired pastry. I ordered pepperoni, cheese and artichoke, all double. I'd say I was lucky to get a few pepperoni. There were flies everywhere as well. It's very annoying to have to swat away flies when you are trying to eat. The restrooms were also terrible. Needed a good cleaning. On my way back to the table I passed the kitchen. The "cooks" do not wear hair nets or gloves, and then the cook scratched himself under his clothing while PREPARING FOOD. Carsonies has been around for a long time. The reason for that is they make the best Stromboli around. Don't order it if you are in a hurry. They don't rush the baking. It takes approximately 30 minutes to cook. I think it is well worth the wait. The crust is baked a perfect golden brown and the cheese is plentiful and just the proper temperature inside. The other reason I love the Westerville Carsonies is because they have a Bocce Ball Court. We were lucky enough on a Friday evening to get to play a couple of games. Bocce is one of my favorite yard games and to have a dedicated court that is maintained is awesome. They do have Happy Hour Monday through Friday 3-7. We didn't make it for happy hour yesterday so I can't update you on that, but check Carsonies out, you'll be happy you did. read more

For those who know me know i loooove pasta and bread. This place gets pretty busy during dinnertime so be sure you plan accordingly. As well, their homemade calzones take 35 minutes to cook. They also offer lunch specials and a buffet during lunch. I ordered the pasta rosa which comes with ziti pasta, chicken, mushrooms, peppers and creamy red sauce. It was very flavorful and filling. I also ordered the garlic cheese bread (omg wowww!!) And their homemade wedding soup. It was all great. They do have a small bar inside, a patio to eat outside that is covered as well and smoking corner that is not located close to people eating (finally a place that has son sense!) Even though I like this location less than the one in Upper Arlington, this is the original and I think the stromboli was even better here so 5 stars again from me for best stromboli in Columbus or anywhere for that matter! The location is in a old and run down part of Westerville in the middle of a strip mall. In fact the outside area is in the middle of a parking lot. It's fenced off but still all you hear is cars so we ate inside. I bet this was here before the strip mall and used to look different. Inside tons of photos and knick knacks, just pretty old looking. Our server looked as she had been crying, no smiles or good feelings here, in fact everytime she came back she looked worse. Nonetheless, she serviced us well. We got the garlic bread to start since we knew we would have to wait at least half an hour for the 'boli. We were about to tell her nevermind when it took half an hour for the garlic bread to come. The idea was to have something to munch on while waiting, not get dinner two bites into the bread. Oh well, it was still great, fresh, cheesy, crunchy, garlicy. I had a caesar salad as well which was also good. The stromboli a real work of art, we got mushrooms, onion, ham and bacon, it was cooked to perfection, the mariniara for dipping also perfect, really worth the $20 any and everyday! Along with the strange server and run down feeling what REALLY bugged us when that the host and a server were at the booth next to us taking all the straws out of the paper and putting them in a pitcher. My husband and I were speechless, in fact this is what kept us grossly entertained the whole wait for dinner. The guy was banging the straws on the table so they push up the top, laying they half open on the dirty table, then when he had enough pulling all the tops to remove the rest. The chick was biting open the paper and pulling each out and they put them in a foggy looking water pitcher, I'm assuming to save the waiters time. When we first saw this my husband took his and my sons straw out right away, me I am glad that I never drink out of straw to begin with. I usually can't keep my mouth shut and wanted to yell how nasty that was but I couldn't get myself to which now pisses me off. So disappointed, Carsonie's was busy tonight, totally get it. One of my girlfriends that was with me is on the service industry, I have nothing but the upmost respect, but this was just absolutely outrageous. I literally just tried to to tell our server that it was an extremely long wait when the table next to us & many others in the bar area came & went x2 ..I was completely dismissed as a patron & when I got the "attitude" lashback & excuses, I legit was name dropped when I asked for her name & the response was Lisa..Lisa Carsonie. Well, Lisa Carsonie, it's unfortunate that you do not allow a paying customer to even speak because I have been there many times & even when service was slow, the bartender who didn't "call off"as you so clearly stated to us still apologized when she even felt that the service was up to par when busy. You could probably learn a lesson from her. If she has to work directly under your supervision, I can understand why she didn't want to come to work after seeing firsthand how you treat others. I talked to my girlfriend who is a bartender after we left & she said that she should've delegated & had the girl cleaning silverware helping paying customers instead & delegated things to those we saw not doing much of anything. Let's talk about the Stromboli that I have always gotten & loved from Carsonies. I basically got bread with cheese. We all 3 got the same individual original Stromboli. All 3 were the same. Did the cook call off too? Didn't matter because I wasn't even allowed to speak because Lisa Carsonie shut me down before I could even mention that. This is the hidden gem of the Westerville area. The pizza is good, but what is the must order is the Stromboli which is pictured below. My all time favorite is the chicken Stromboli which is stuffed with cheese, tomatoes, chicken, and banana peppers. It is amazing and will not disappoint. The large serves 3-5 people and is perfect for sharing. It does take 40ish minutes to make so beware of the time if you plan on dining in. It's also great for carry out if you call ahead.
