Casa de Catrina in Carle Place is a must try, conveniently located right across from the mall, perfect for lunch or dinner after a shopping trip. We sampled so many dishes and everything was outstanding. The fried whole red snapper served over pineapple with chamoy and tajín was a standout, along with the char-grilled New York strip steak and the grilled octopus special served on a fiery skillet with chimichurri. The chicken flautas, fried calamari, and street corn were all delicious too. The cocktails deserve a shoutout as well, served in beautiful, unique glasses, but they taste just as good as they look. The Vive La Vida (vodka, watermelon, dragon fruit, peach purée, prosecco) was a favorite. Great atmosphere, great service, and so many menu options to choose from. The food was good but overpriced for what you get. I recommend getting the fried tamales, those were delicious. The elote was ok. Very heavy on that true mayo flavor. Needs some spice and lime on the side. The tacos were not worth the price honestly. The lamb dish though was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The churros came with ice cream and lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar. The soft drinks are served via can for $4 a piece. The cocktails are more value for your buck, but even those are quite pricey in comparison to similar restaurants in the area. The ambiance becomes more of a nightclub vibes as the night progresses. We decided to try this spot for dinner and honestly left a bit disappointed. I ordered the skirt steak tacos, which came with three tacos, no sides, and a tiny sauce for $28. My husband got the beef birria tacos -- also three tacos, no sides -- for the same price. Both were just okay, not much flavor for the price point. For drinks, we kept it simple with two canned sodas. Service itself was fine; the staff checked in on us a few times, which I appreciated. But when the bill came, we noticed they had added an automatic gratuity. What's strange is that after looking at other Yelp reviews, some people have posted their receipts without the auto-gratuity, so it feels a little inconsistent. On top of that, there's an additional charge if you pay with a card. Between the high prices, lack of flavor, and questionable billing practices, it just didn't feel worth it. Very fun Saturday night dinner spot. As soon as you walk in the DJ is there spinning some great Spanish music all night. I really enjoyed the calamari appetizer which was fried perfectly and came with marinara sauce and chipotle mayo. The restaurant also serves complimentary chips & dip. But the main star was the skirt steak which came with 2 sides. I got the Mexican rice and mashed potatoes. This was easily one of the best skirt steaks I ever had. Cooked at a perfect medium. The skirt steak was so tender and juicy. It sliced like butter. The Mexican rice was flavorful and even better when paired with the aji verde sauce. The mashed potatoes were amazing. You can tell they use real potatoes not the powdered kind, and they did not fill it with sour cream to make it too creamy. It was thick delicious potatoes mashed up. While some are decent, my visit leaned towards the negative. Chips and salsa were lacking. Two tiny cups are served with the chips. One red. One green. The red was fair. I didn't care for the green. It took an extended period for the server to bring out my unsweetened ice tea. I also waited much longer than I should have for a refill. The presentation of the chicken fajitas was probably the highlight of the meal. However, I can't eat presentation. The grilled veggies were decent, but the chicken lacked flavor as did the rice. I asked for salt and pepper shakers as there are none on any table. I was never brought the salt and pepper. The rice desperately needed it! The calamari was good but basic and the menu says it's $20 but they charged $23 on the bill! Scammers! FALSE ADVERTISING. The tacos were three for $28, no sides, not amazing for that price. Service was slow, they didn't even have the reservation in the computer despite me showing them the email confirmation. Then they have the nerve to tell me I have a 1.5 time limit at the table. By the time we got our food, we were about 30 minutes into the 1.5 time limit so basically I chalked this meal up as a fast food Mexican experience with some really nice murals on the wall and good decor. A chic vibe when entering this fairly new Mexican restaurant. Love the stylish bar counter and seating with it's IG ready decor. It is quite a lot to take in at first look. The place is brightly lit and has a comfortable layout of tables, makes this a great hang out for date night or a night out for drinks with friends. The entrees menu was simple with a variety of proteins - think salmon, steak, pork, chicken and shrimp, as well as lots of great sharing appetizers. We ordered a bit from each section - started with the grilled octopus appetizer (must try!), queso fundido with chorizo (this was melty goodness), fresh guacamole made table side (slight kick) and for entrees, we shared the cheese quesadilla and salmon tacos (generous size portions of fish and the pickled onions were a perfect compliment to the fish). While the tacos were supposed to be fried as listed, I requested soft ones instead and they accommodated without question. The white Sangria was very tasty and I enjoyed the fresh fruit. For dessert, we ordered the churros with vanilla ice cream - it's so good when it's fresh and made on the spot! The wait staff and porters were always quick to clean, swap plates, bring silverware, and refill drinks. Very hospitable. Also very polite when they interacted with us. Went on a Saturday night and the place was very busy. I had very high hopes. We were sat close enough to our reservation time ( no big deal). The waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed. No water or anything on the table. Also, I've been to other Mexican spots and I thought it was strange that they don't put anything on the table like nachos or something to munch on. Parking is very convenient as it is located in an " outlet " like area - no valet & it is not needed The restaurant is beautifully decorated & painted with traditional Mexican decor. The bar is lined with top shelf liquor and beautiful green chairs with gold accent - it is eye catching and definitely instagram worthy. I suggest getting there early, we got there around 1pm on a Saturday then around 3pm we saw large groups of families pouring in The food & drinks were absolutely delicious. They offer complimentary chips & salsa; We started with the margarita flight - 5 different flavored margaritas (passion fruit, mango, hibiscus , tamarind & cucumber $30) ALL the flavors were delicious & strong - our personal favorites were the passion Fruit & mango for food we ordered the sweet plantains which was nicely garnished with cojita cheese ($5) tostones which came with a delicious dipping sauce ($5)Birria Oaxaca Cheese Tacos which came with a ramekin of consome ($21) BBQ Pork Rib Tacos ($18) - this pork Rib taco was garnished with grilled pineapples, it was a tad too sweet for us but wasn't a terrible taco. We also had the warm chocolate lava cake which was served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream & chocolate syrup ($11) ALL the servers were friendly, attentive, and efficient. The decor of this place is so cute and chic! The waitstaff are attentive and personable. My friends and I went on a Thursday night and it was quick to be seated. We ordered a few dishes to share and spicy margaritas - we had the birria tacos which lacked a bit in flavor, the wings which were undercooked, the corn which was delicious and the nachos which were also pretty good. This Mexican restaurant will have their grand opening in about two weeks. We went on a Saturday evening and were seated immediately. It wasn't crowded. I have a feeling, though, once people hear about this place, it will be jammed packed. It is decorated to welcome you and the music they play makes you feel as though you're in Mexico. My Peruvian son in law loved the salsa music which reminds him of his childhood. The staff is friendly and helpful. They serve chips and salsa upon sitting. I like my chips a little thinner, but they were still good. We tried the chicharone guacamole which was excellent. The portion they serve is huge. Ordered at the table were salmon tacos which were served with Cole slaw and a creamy sauce. The taco shell itself, was maybe homemade. I'm not sure. The chicken fajitas were very good and tasty as was the steak fajitas. They didn't ask how my son in law wanted his steak, but it was cooked perfectly and he absolutely loved his dish. The rice and beans were so good also. They were big beans and were creamy. The rice was cooked just right and very good. I want to mention that the portion sizes for the entrees as well as the sides are extremely generous. The pink and red sangria were both good. My friend thoroughly enjoyed the Flutas and couldn't finish the meal. He was recommended the raspberry lemon martini and lit up the moment he took a sip. The service was pleasant. every one was kind and in good spirits. I like it when people look like they are happy to be at work. They offered good recommendations and always said thank you.
