    Inside the taco

If you want to feel virtuous for the rest of the day, Casa de Luz is your spot. This place is basically the mothership for holistic, plant-based, vegetable-forward dining in Austin. This was my second visit, and the food followed the same formula as the first. You walk in, pay at the counter (as of late 2025 the meal is $16, there is only one option), then swing around to the other counter to pick up your tray of wellness. It comes with soup and a salad. Today's lineup: massaged kale, a vegetable medley of cauliflower, carrot, and zucchini and rice and black beans for your carbs and protein. The main item if you call it that was a taco in a corn tortilla, which was filled with, shocker, more vegetables. Mushroom and green bean taco. I have to admire the commitment. Hot or iced tea is self serve and comes with the meal. There's also dessert if you want to pay a little extra. The vibe is exactly what you'd expect from an Austin institution that's been doing this forever. It sits in a little cluster of shops that all radiate holistic energy. There was an organic juice shop, a place that services healthy hot chocolate. I didn't see a crystal store, but I could have just missed it. Speaking of things I may have missed, I didn't see any knives with the other cutlery. Just forks and spoons here. And honestly, why would you need a knife? There's nothing here that a fork can't gently subdue. The outdoor dining area is lovely, with trees and a peaceful feel, and the indoor space is just as nice. Tranquil world music plays softly in the background. I've never been at night, but the little pathway to the restaurant looks like it would be beautiful in the evening. You come here if you want vegetables, with a side of vegetables, sprinkled with more vegetables. It's not Franklin Barbecue, and it's not trying to be. It's Casa de Luz, and for what it is, it's great.

This hidden gem in South Central Austin is incredible!

This place is magical! The food is tasty. It is plant based and organic. If they allow it, I recommend bringing a container in case you have leftovers. They give you a generous amount of food. Food and tea is a set price unless you want to add on dessert. Dessert is extra. Everyone here (staff and patrons) seems relaxed and to be enjoying the present moment. The vibe here is super chill. This spot is definitely a hidden gem in Austin. There is also a second location on MLK which I'd like to check out one day soon.

I love the Casa De Luz space because it has a long walkway of paths with vegetation and seating areas. The location is so peaceful with water fountains and the sound of running water. There are several really unique murals that are painted on the buildings. I like to go walk around and explore the paths and sit and reflect in the beauty and peacefulness of the place. I was here for a wellness run collective meetup on Sunday morning and they had many vendors on site. It was a great location to host a community event. They also have a restaurant on site serving whole plant cuisine. I love their motto that they are a beacon for connection to food, community and ourselves. They derive their essential fatty acids from freshly ground seeds and nuts, creating sauces and dressings that not only nourish the body but also honor the wholeness of the plants themselves. I like the communal dining experience that fosters human connection.

Wonderful calming ambiance. Loved the vision and the food felt healing and fresh. Incase you are wondering if a vegan plate could keep you full, I would say it very much will. Most of us are not used to eating so many fiber rich foods! I do not eat vegan in my day to day diet and didn't feel a lack of anything in this meal. I will be back. Here's a sample menu from the day I went. It's mostly self serve and you need to bus and organize your dishes properly so but the lady at the front answered all my questions nicely so I'd say service was good.

I came here on a Saturday and enjoyed their whole food, plant-based lunch with kukicha tea. For dessert, I had chia pudding, and got a slice of pecan pie to go. It's fascinating to watch the ladies in the kitchen enthusiastically cutting fresh produce and preparing the dishes. Vibe is casual. Service is friendly. You can sit at one of the tables inside, or dine in the courtyard.

The most zen space in all of Texas. Community - healing food - beautiful souls. this isn't as much of a restaurant as it is a community gathering space. Macrobiotic meals prepared with love. Wonderful selection of desserts. Hot and iced tea to wash it all down. This day, I enjoyed squash and sweet potato soup, salad with cooling dressing, beans, greens with the delicious sauce of cashews, millet with mushroom gravy. Hibiscus and lemongrass iced tea. Divine

I never would have discovered this spot if I hadn't attended puppy yoga! It's such a charming and relaxing place--definitely my vibe. I did have a little trouble finding the restaurant, though maybe I just didn't look hard enough. With hammocks to lounge in, plenty of cozy seating, and cute plants all around, it's the perfect spot to unwind.

Decent food. Super healthy. They serve tea but with no sugar. So you'll be drinking bitter tea. Just FYI. Like not even natural sources of sugar are provided like agave or coconut sugar? Natural sugar is not the enemy. This was one of the only things that rubbed me the wrong way. Otherwise, Ambiance is 10/10. Dark and peaceful in there. I eventually want to go back and try their cafe and meditation lounge. The grounds are gorgeous! Lush greenery everywhere.

Pretty simple lunch place with one price for adults ($16) and one for kids ($7). You get a tray for your food and it comes with whatever is on the menu for the day--usually different types of salad, some sort of legume, rice, and soup. You also get drinks. The lunch was very light and healthy, making it the perfect in between meal before I got something heavy at night.

Casa De Luz is truly healthy and nourishing food for the vegan soul! It is so filling as well and I love all the fresh tastes. This is not a place to take someone who will not appreciate very healthy foods-I cannot take my husband here. I have only come for take out, but would love to have a seated meal at some point, as it's such a pretty setting. It's cafeteria style and no actual menu. It's also right across from Zach Theatre so perfect for dinner before/after a show :)

Casa de Luz is such a special place to me. It's one of the first places I ever went to when I came to Austin. It's ALWAYS fresh, wholesome, delicious. I love that there's no menu - you show up and you get fed a nourishing, wonderful vegan meal. For $20 you can get a whole meal, soup, and a dessert - filling up on natural foods and delicious nutrients! For desert I recommend the pumpkin or chocolate pie! Peaceful ambience with friendly people. 15/10

Ask the Community - Casa De Luz

Do they use peanuts or hazelnuts?

They use a lot of nuts in their sauces and dressings, so I would check the website or call and ask because the menu changes constantly.

Do they require masks to enter and order? I only see the workers wearing them.

Casa is pro-choice and allow others to make their own choices based on how they feel and what works best for each person.

Is this location dog friendly? At least in the patio?

Yes, the patio areas are dog friendly

She was totally on top of us I had the lobster pasta and friend had the ahi tacos. They did not skimp on portions. The tacos were so full of tuna it has hard to keep it all inside the shell! So very tasty and extremely fresh ahi for sure. The lobster pasta went beyond my expectations! The pasta was definitely homemade and cooked to the perfect texture. The sauce was not over powering yet very tasty for sure. And the lobster meat. Not sprinkled in like other places. Absolutely not! There was a hefty amount of lobster for sure! They did not hold back. This would be good for a girls night out or a very nice dinner date place. The location in downtown is very central to everything you can think of and public parking is near by.

They offer a full bar and also a coffee place with pastries and other baked goods. They seem to be connected to a hotel. The restrooms were up a few flights of stairs or you can use the elevator to the 2nd floor. I didn't know that. The upstairs portion could be rented out for special occasions or events. Our server was super friendly and helpful. She recommended a couple of her favorite smoothies. I ordered the Sweet Corn Cake Benedict: poached eggs, jalapeño cheddar corn cakes, avocado, tomato & corn salsa (4/5). I liked and enjoyed my breakfast, which was fresh and light. Berry Basil Smoothie: blueberry, strawberry, basil, banana, agave, pomegranate, coconut water, lime juice (4/5). This was very delicious. My coworkers order the Everything Sandwich: everything cream cheese, peppered bacon, baby kale, roasted roma tomatoes (4/5). Flavorful, with a light freshness of all the ingredients. My other coworker ordered a side of Breakfast Potatoes & a Detox Juice: acai, pomegranate, coconut water, lime. Both really liked the breakfast potatoes, which had a crisp exterior crunch yet soft and creamy inside. Come check them out. Support your local business.
