I have visited Casa de Torta several times, and I am always happy with the taste of their food and customer service. The parking lot at the mini-mall they are located at is quite busy, so please be careful when you visit them. I tried their drive-thru, but it takes a while to get your food. I have never dined in; I always take my food to go, and when I do, I ensure I am not in a rush because it does take them a while to serve. My favorite is their chile colorado burrito.

Casa de Torta in north El Paso: a big torta with milanesa and chorizo. Beef had no breading and was very tough. Hard to chew or bite

A date and I were passing by this exit in north El Paso on our way back to Las Cruces and decided to hit up the Casa de Torta for lunch. Its location is well suited for the 45 minute drive to the City of the Crosses. The immediate area was quite busy but we managed to find a convenient parking spot off to the side of the building. The restaurant itself is not large with several tables and a few wood benches. The ambiance is best described as "spartan." It is an order at the counter place and they bring the food to your table. The restaurant was doing a brisk drive up window business. Most of the food served is either tortas or burritos . Prices are reasonable. Today I wanted to try their Pampas Torta with beef milanesa and chorizo even though I knew milanesa can be dry and tough to bite into. I ordered it as part of a combo meal with fries and a drink. My date ordered a beef and potato chile Colorado burrito minus the beans. The time from ordering to food on the table was around twelve to fourteen minutes. The food arrived at our table in a large paper bag; kind of a strange way to serve people dining in. Inside the bag was a burrito wrapped in paper, a large and heavy torta wrapped in foil, and a bunch of fries in a styrofoam container. Drinks are self serve at a counter. There were a couple napkins in the bag, but I had to go back up to the counter to ask for a plastic fork and extra napkins...which were needed. Overall, the service was pleasant and efficient enough but far from a professional level. The fries were light and crispy...not oily at all and fairly well seasoned. Rate these fries a "B." The beef burrito Colorado had a bit of potato and meat that was shredded. The meat was tender but the red sauce was not very tasty. This burrito didn't compare with the red chile meat burritos served around Las Cruces. I don't want to come across as a Las Cruces chauvinist but this red chile meat burrito wouldn't rank in the top twenty around Cruces. Rate it a "B-." Slightly above average. My torta was quite heavy. It had a large bun but the bun was not very flavorful and did not hold up that well. The chorizo had a nice flavor (but there was very little chorizo in the torta) as did the beef, but the milanesa itself had virtually no breading on it and it was so tough and grisly that you could literally not bite into it and it took eons to chew. This did not make for a pleasant dining experience. Rate the torta I had between a "C-" and a "D." It was not very good. Word of advice: if you dine here do NOT order the beef. I have to believe that chicken or other torta fillings will be better and worthy of a much higher grade. The restaurant did offer some little vials of red and green salsa to use on your meal. These were ok. At the end of the day, rate the overall dining experience at Casa de Torta around TWO AND THREE QUARTER STARS...meaning kind of mediocre. You do have to know what to order here as not everything is top drawer. Will I return? Can't be certain. I didn't enjoy my lunch very much.

The lamest excuse for Carne Asada Fries I've ever seen.

Great Torta, wings, chips and fries. Service was awesome as well. Be prepared though as the wings and salsa is super hot.

Had the steak ranchero for lunch. Pretty good and at a great price. Going to try breakfast next. Great pit stop right off route 54.

Great food, reasonable prices. Our go 2 place for tortas and chicken wings. Call in can be difficult to get through but worth it.

While the food was never the primary…read morereason I returned, the excellent margaritas and outstanding service kept me coming back for nearly two decades. Unfortunately, that loyalty came to an end after a recent experience that was both disappointing and unacceptable. My family and I chose this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. Every guest paid separately, and there were no issues during the evening itself. However, as the event concluded, multiple attendees, including family members and in-laws, overheard servers making derogatory comments about our party. Among the remarks were that we were "ungrateful," "cheap," and "broke," along with other inappropriate comments that no customer should ever have to hear. I brought the matter to the attention of ownership, hoping for a meaningful resolution. While I was told the employees had been reprimanded, the proposed remedy was a $25 gift card. After nearly 18 years of patronage, the response felt dismissive and only added insult to injury. What disappoints me most is not simply the behavior of the staff, but the lack of accountability and concern shown afterward. This was a place I once considered a reliable and welcoming destination for family gatherings and celebrations. Sadly, that trust has been lost. As a result, I will no longer be returning or recommending this establishment to friends, family, or colleagues. Respect for customers should be a fundamental part of any hospitality business, and in this case, that standard was not met.

About 8 large chile toreados, grilled onions.and plenty of corn tortillas. The charro beans were mostly bean soup. I actually poured some of the bean soup into a bowl so we could serve ourselves to avoid some spilling. The baked potatoes were generously bathed in butter. They did not provide any other toppings for the potatoes. Personally I think some sour cream, or Mexican crema de la Mesa, some chives, some other toppings would have been nice. The queso fundido was good but also a disappointment. It was missing the chorizo that I had paid extra for. The meat was very good. Well done but not dry or hard to chew. I was pleased to see that the chicken was not cooked into dryness. We did come across a couple of meat grisel or what in Spanish is called "nervio". This place has a small sign that states that if you pay with a credit card a 3% service charge will be added to your bill. I am pretty good with math and I pointed out to the cashier that they actually charge 4%. He did make a correction on my bill. Be ware of your bill. Otherwise they do give you plenty of food. It reminds me of a Mexican parrillada/ grilled cook out. The food here was very good, good tasting, and in spite of the small glitches worth it. We will be returning again.

Looking back, El Cometa is what started my taco obsession. Their tacos al pastor con queso are so good. The marinated pork is perfectly seasoned, a little greasy in the best way, and topped with melted cheese. One thing I love is their salsa bar. I always grab the red salsa, green salsa, and guacamole. I pile all three on my tacos, and every bite is amazing. Their tacos remind me of my favorite tacos at the resort my family visited every summer in Cancún. Even though it has been years since I have been there, El Cometa brings those memories back with every bite. The staff is incredible. Last summer, the hostess recognized me right away and seated me immediately. She even remembered my order. I order the exact same thing every visit: tacos and two cans of Sprite. The fact that she has been there since I first started coming in 2019 makes every visit feel like coming home. From 2019 until I moved away in 2022, I went there almost every week. To eat here, everyone lines up at the cashier to place an order, but somehow I always felt like royalty. The staff knew me, and every visit felt welcoming. El Cometa never disappoints. The food is outstanding, the service is excellent, and every visit reminds me why I fell in love with tacos in the first place.
