1st time trying this place out, ordered the Piña Loca Fajita platter. The food is not bad but the portions of the meats are very little. It was more pieces of pineapples onions and peppers. The staff was unresponsive when we asked for a table for two and when we wanted to change no one spoke or responded. I felt that English speaking people are not welcome. On a recent visit to Lombard, we wanted to get away from the hotel restaurant, so off to Yelp we went...and Casa Margarita is where we ended up, and for the most part, it was a great decision! There were two of us, so we were sat fairly quickly in the main dining room area. Server came over shortly after and off we went. We started with margaritas of course, then moved on to a queso dip followed by a few entrees. Queso was solid, a bit overpriced, as it was fairly standard. My peer went for the quesabirria, which is a new addition and still considered "off menu". Came with three tacos, rice, beans and consommé for dipping. The tacos were well cooked with juicy meat and cripsy shells, but the consommé made the whole meal. It was well seasoned and very flavorful. We were impressed with how much flavor they got into it! I went with an enchilada dinner, which was essentially a sampler of their classic enchiladas with beef, chicken and cheese topped in a red sauce. Enchiladas were solid! Rice and beans were standard, not much in flavor, but you never come to a Mexican spot after the sides. Service was stellar. Our server was friendly, attentive, helpful and just a joy to interact with. The space is lively, but also cozy. Options for seating are from the dining room to covered patio to a grandiose bar area. This was our second Saturday evening visit to Casa Margarita in Downers Grove. 1st visit was "OK" but the main dining room was so loud we could barely hear ourselves talking at our table. (3 in our party.) Food was fine but nothing to brag about, typical "fast food". Thought the second visit might be better since the main dining room was fairly empty. Main issue was air conditioning. The restaurant felt warmer than it was outside not to mention the "stuffy" atmosphere, no air circulation at all which does not lend to an enjoyable meal. When we questioned our server about air conditioning, it was difficult to interpret her answer. It sounded like she said it was too hot, not working at all, or broken. We just looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders. As for the food, I ordered the taco dinner, soft shells. Plenty of chicken but the sloppiest tacos I've ever had. Every taco I picked up instantly fell apart and dripped a reddish-colored "juice" all over me and my plate. I can understand the shredded chicken being kept in something with spices to keep the meat moist, but one might think the cook would let the meat drain a bit before filling up the shell. As I was looking around the restaurant it appeared many tables still waiting for food and drinks. When we finally were sat, the menus were super sticky. Water was never brought to my group. I agree with the 2 star reviews. Came here with some friends. 6 of us total. We stopped in around 7-7:30p. We were told a 40-minute wait. Not many restaurants are nearby so we decided to stay and wait. 40 minutes go by, and my girlfriend asked the status. The hostess said, "we noticed you were still waiting." What?! We finally get seated 10 minutes after that. The table was sticky, and they were using menus to keep the table level. I ordered a rumchata, and they gave me an horchata. We were a little unimpressed with this restaurant. It's well decorated and has a fun vibe, but the food was lack luster and it gave off some divey vibes. It was by no means a bad experience!! TL;DR: good food, meh service I had never eaten here before but yelp suggested this brightly-painted place for lunch near Yorktown Mall. When we first arrived the bass of the music was uncomfortably loud (it's a restaurant, not a club...) but someone must have gotten the message because it toned down considerably during our meal. It was a looong time before we saw our server. At first i thought they just had one waiter working the whole place but then another girl appeared. She wasn't terribly attentive (didn't bring water when we asked, didn't check in during the meal, and then when i was trying to flag her down to pay kept walking past). The food was really quite good. My friend got mole enchiladas with shredded beef, and I got the colorful pina fajitas (pineapple fajitas made with meat of your choice and served in half a pineapple). Tortillas were small and there was twice the amount of filling you could have used, but trying to get our waitress was just too hard so I ate the rest with a fork. The margarita de la casa was pretty acidic (tasted like a store mix) and the alcohol didn't kick in til the end, but it's a sizeable beverage. There's quite an array of drinks here, so perhaps upgrade to something different. Overall, would come back for the pina fajitas but keep expectations low for service. read more

It also didn't have a lot of cheese which is a trademark for quesadillas. So it was essentially just some plain chicken, undercooked veggies and a little cheese in between some flour tortillas. While we did have to wait a bit there was plenty of space at the bar and the bartender was making delicious drinks! I went with the Margarita flight and it was a great choice, you get a little sample of everything! After hanging at the bar for a bit we were seated at a table and ordered after a short wait. Point of emphasis here: they seemed short-staffed this night but this was our only time we had to wait where I found myself thinking "Is anyone going to come over?" After that, it was smooth sailing! Among us we ordered a little bit of everything and everyone agreed that the food was tasty. Additionally, we ordered some HUGE margs at the end of the meal and they really were gigantic! I love to frequent good Mexican restaurants and Casa Margarita is right around the corner from my office. I've been there a few times and wanted to meet an old colleague and a few co-workers for lunch. It was a Tuesday and at lunchtime you would expect more than 2 people in there for lunch, but that wasn't the case. With the 4 of us, it totaled 6 patrons total. Service was obviously fast and the lunch portion was plentiful. Started with chips and salsa, which had a chipotle smoked flavoring, along with an appetizer of Chorizo and Queso, a tasty warm creamy cheese dip loaded with smoky and spicy chorizo with warm tortilla chips. So good, highly recommend it. For lunch one person had the Shrimp Fajitas which came with the same great tasting frijoles and rice, another had the Quesadillas (probably not as big of a fan of Mexican food as I am) and two of us enjoyed the Sizzling Steak Fajitas. They were extremely flavorful. The smooth creamy frijoles were really good and the description from their menu was spot on with what we got. "Tender steak marinated in our special blend of spices and citrus juices. Grilled and served sizzling" I love to see how they describe things in the menu compared to what I perceive it ti be. These dishes came with "Grilled with red and green bell peppers, tomatoes and onions. Garnished with shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fresh guacamole and sour cream. Served with Mexican rice, frijoles and soft, fresh-made flour tortillas". I loved the small amount of guacamole and sour cream that was on the plate. Just enough for the 3 fajitas I ate. And the meat was tender and marinated just the right amount of time to satisfy my taste for the meat. It's hard to say it wasn't good. Service was obviously fast since the small amount of people in the restaurant. I would recommend this place and be sure to try the margaritas, even though I didn't have for lunch, they are pretty darn good. The ambiance is typical for a Mexican restaurant but loved the decorations over the fireplace. Be sure to take a look when you are there. And be sure to sit outside in the summer and try their fresh made guacamole while you enjoy a refreshingly cold margarita. read more

We are here with a party of 10 for a work dinner and the reviews are pretty mixed. The food was very good all around and by itself would probably be a 4 star review. The problem is the service was horrendous. The server was clearly stoned and although the restaurant was less than 25% full he spent a lot more time talking to other servers than taking care of his tables. This cost then at least 2 rounds of drinks because there wasn't any service. Of course they put the tip right in the bill so he didn't care I guess. Today (Monday) we went at they were pretty dead so we were hoping for better service. The hostess seemed to have an attitude that we requested a booth, Then the waiter took forever to greet us while he was hanging out at the hostess stand chatting while holding our chips. Finally after making eye contact he came over and we ordered- everything we ordered seemed to be a problem.
