For my sister's bachelorette party we started off the night at Casa Real. BEST DECISION EVER!!! I chose Casa Real on a whim after going there for the first time and seeing that they had salsa lessons on Saturday nights. They were able to accommodate our party of 14 (I had made reservations in advance). The service was tremendous! We were all treated very well, my sister in particular. They sang to her, she wore a sombrero, and they gave her a free shot of tequila!! I would definitely recommend Casa Real for any occasion. Enjoyable night with the family. They were a bit busy and short staffed, so initial service was slow. Once our waitress (doing double duty as the bartender) was able to service us, things improved. Good selection of cervezas, both on tap and in bottles. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and my family can be pretty picky about Mexican food. I recommend the El Molcajete, it was outstanding. read more

Worst dining experience of my life. The interior needs a lot of work possibly even a whole remodeling. First off waitress took forever just to take our order. Once we ordered our food it came out fast. The food was mediocre at best. Than after my party of 5 was ready to go we got billed for one table. Which usually isn't a big deal. So we just asked the waitress to change it. She said she couldn't split our bill due to low staffing. Which makes completely no sense the amount of time she took explaining how she couldn't print more bills she could've split our checks already. On top of that they put a automatic gratuity on our bill after her terrible service. Than she seemed short with my whole party on how we were calculating the bill and how we were paying after she made a simple task like paying the check into a hassle due to her lack of effort. The food was good. I wish I had a bigger portion. I had the Arroz Con Pollo, but with how big their plates are and how small the portions are - it was visible that they tried spreading the dish out to cover the plate. The chips/salsa is real good. The wait staff is real good about refilling when you are out of chips/salsa. No complaints there. The noise level was our biggest concern. The Birthday celebration has to go. It is very obnoxious and loud. We weren't able to communicate as others in the restaurant had this parade of instruments come to their table. It was very off-putting. My Gosh!! My experience today at Casa was on point!!! The margarita that I ordered, Señor Blue, was amazingly refreshing, delicious & cold!!! Perfect balance of tequila, fresh lime juice, and blue curaçao. The chips & salsa were fantastic!! Freshly made chips that were not greasy; they were hot and fresh. Salsa was perfect, fresh and slightly spicy. My entree was Camarones a la Diabla. A very spicy shrimp dish, with Mexican rice, Guacamole, warm tortillas, Curly Fries, lettuce & tomatoes. The shrimp were very fresh & succulent. Diablo sauce was spicy and amazing. Tortillas were very warm and fluffy. The rice was perfect. I'm originally from Oxford but have been living in Atlanta for a while now. I was in town for the holidays and decided Mexican food sounded good. I have a very high standard for food these days. Casa real was great. My boyfriend and I split the fajita quesadilla and it was more then enough food for us both. And delicious. We also got the $3 happy hour margaritas which we're strong and tasty. The service definitely left something to be desired. We waited a good 20 minutes before a server greeted us. After she realized we were there it was smooth sailing. We had drinks, chips & salsa momentarily. We paid $19 for a huge entree (split with 2 people), two margaritas, chips, and salsa. We left much happier than when we arrived. read more

I like almost everything here. Good, fresh food. Good drinks. Good prices. Friendly staff. The 1 glaring downside... WHY ON EARTH DO YOU USE PROCESSED CHEESE! It is the one item that ruins many dishes. I always end up just scraping it off. Except that 1 time I ordered the "Queso Fundido", on of my Mexican Favs (Chorizo, Queso Fresco, Jalepenos)... and the whole dish was processed cheese. The most ridiculous part... Queso Fresco translates to "Fresh Cheese"! Sigh.... But again, outside of them trying to save a few pennies on cheese, everything else is solid. But Mexican Town is better (real cheese!). And LaShonda... if you think Oxford is the middle of nowhere, you don't get around much. Get your condescending A$$ back to your state. read more

Got some chips and salsa...had to wait and wait for water. Got meal, plate was hot but the food was stone cold. Server never came back to ask us how our meal was or asked if we needed more water. For my money, I'm going to skip the 2 hour wait at Sagebrush Cantina in LO and head to Casa Real any night of the week! Sure, they don't have quite the atmosphere as Sagebrush, but you can't beat the over-the-top decor at Casa Real. But the main thing that I'm sold on is the food. We all know that Sagebrush isn't really mexican, and I wouldn't quite call Casa Real authentic either, but it's definitely closer than the former. I'll take the Steak Fajita Quesadilla at Casa Real over any menu item at Sagebrush--it is AMAZING! Or maybe I'm just a sucker for anything lathered in that white cheese. The margarita's are also delicious (and strong!). Next time your tempted to wait for hours with buzzer in hand at Sagebrush, take a 7 minute drive north on 24 to Casa Real, you won't be disappointed! read more

Mexican food is my ALL-TIME favorite kind of food in the world. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and all snacks in between. However, I love my girlish figure and have refrained from stuffing my face with tacos upon tacos (that sounds like heaven), and we will usually eat Mexican about once per month. This month we tried Casa Real - my husband ate here for lunch once and said it was really authentic and he felt it was better than Sagebrush Cantina (which is right down the road). I agree - I think it IS better than Sagebrush just simply for the fact that the authenticity of Sagebrush's food has been decreasing exponentially over the past few years. The insane wait-times just aren't worth it anymore. It was refreshing to walk in to Casa Real and be seated immediately. Their margaritas are AMAZING and the size of your head! I definitely recommend the Patron margs! The authenticity of the food was wonderful as well - delicious and made with quality ingredients. Four stars just because the service wasn't that great. Used to love this place. The food is pretty good but I haven't been able to look past all the issues recently. 95% of the time I call nobody answers or it tells me the phone numbers not in service and half the time I order carry out it's wrong. Sad I won't be going there anymore as I used to order to go orders every week but it's just so inconsistent and you'll never know if they'll answer the phone or get the order correct . Chips are always stale too. Sometimes I'll call and they'll say they don't serve what I'm ordering but I literally always order the same thing so it just depends on who answers the phone . This place is a forgotten gem. With several Mexican restaurants nearby it often gets overlooked. It is by far the most authentic and amazing place. Forget the Tex Mex competitors if you want the real thing, THIUS IS IT. The queso dip and street tacos are amazing. Chips and salsa rock. Their taco sauce has a good spicy kick that'll put some hair on your chest in hours haha. Fajitas are great too. The only dish I didn't care for is Chile Rileno. read more

Why am I still here? I need to just give up on CR and mourn its demise. This was the place to go for years. When the owner still ran the restaurant and was here nightly, everything was golden. Now he is off expanding across metro Detroit, and he abandoned his flagship location. It's sad and frustrating. There are nights when the food takes forever, arrives cold, is made wrong or never comes. Tonight, we were supposed to be warned at the hostess station that food was taking 50 minutes. This was mentioned by our completely checked out server. I've seen potatoes with more expression. With all this time to burn, we used up our 3 baskets of chips. There are no more. They are not making more. A Mexican restaurant has run out of tortilla chips. I never thought I'd see the day. They are so easy to make too. This place just does not care. Instead of doing the right thing and offering a free appetizer, she just shrugged and walked away. This is the new normal since the owner left his sister in charge. She couldn't run a blender let alone a restaurant. The last time we were here, it was 7 pm on a Saturday. The place was deserted. The owner's sister and our server ignored our empty drinks in favor of sweeping the floor all around us. We were next to the bar. It wasn't a huge task to refill some sodas. I think this will be our last visit. It's sad. I emailed the owner several months ago, but his sister intercepted the message. I doubt he ever saw it. He may not know his sister has run the business into the ground. I give the place 6 months tops. Food ended up taking 30 minutes, not 50. Prices are still great. If I could give this restaurant a 0 stars I honestly would for my first time in Michigan my friends decided to go out to a Mexican restaurant this being the closest we decided to head in. What we didnt know was that we would have to deal with I kid you not the worst customer service from a lady with a red wig. The entire time she would only make eye contact with the men in our group and ignore us women that were ordering not only did she keep re asking the guys what they wanted she was overall super rude to all of the girls. During our meal everyone was enjoying there's food but me I had ordered the Chimichanga that had a white cheese over top worst mistake ever I tried to eat it but it was beyond disgusting the cheese tasted like it had been mixed with soap I tried to eat it but I was only able to get two bites in I asked out server if there was any way I could get a different meal because the one I had tasted really bad and she said no we can't do that that's just how it is I would have to charge you again for something else, and if there was something wrong with it when it first came out you should have said something. Mind you I had only taken two bites I got ended up not eating my food. At the end of our meal we got the check and to our surprise there was an extra fee of 29 dollars because we were a big group. Mind you on all of the menus it says 18% gratuity fee for parties over 8 people we were only six. We tried talking to her about it and she gave us a whole bunch of bs excuses she was over all super unpleasant to deal with I honestly will never be coming back and to top this all of I have been sick to my stomach since I took the two bites . Two star for edible but I would never recommend it. There are only a couple waiters/waitresses that are excellent at there job here and care about the customer. If you are unlucky and get anyone else be prepare to wait for long periods of time for drink re-fill, ordering food, and getting the check. I would say out of past five time I was forced to go there only two were good waiter/waitress experiences. Now the food, it generic. I have tried quesadillas, fajitas and burritos. The beef quesadilla was dry and not cut so it was a bit hard to eat. Also, they only put a small 1/2 tablespoon of sour cream on the side. When I ask if I could have a bit more, 20 min later (this one of the bad times) I got a room temperature carry-out sour cream that tasted spoiled. The half beef/half chicken burrito was ok but was clearly microwaved. Cheese does not look like that out of an oven. If you find yourself here I would stick to the fajitas. I had the chicken previously and they are pretty good. If you are craving Mexican I would not pick this place. Forest Mexican and saga brush in lake orion are way better. Taco Bell is better too at least if you get poor food and service you did not pay much for it. read more

This place is such a delight. Service is always on point. The food is delicious and spicy. The menu is extensive, sometimes making it very difficult to choose just one thing. I particularly enjoy their fajitas and flautas. Portions are generous. The margaritas are very good. The atmosphere is rather fun on the weekends. Great music and salsa dancing sometimes. I typically order take out once a week. They are always stingy with the salsa for take out and they'll charge extra if you request more. Excellent in every possible way. The food is authentic, expertly prepared, enthusiastically served and tastes incredible. I'm partial to the vegetarian botana, but the entire menu is worth exploring. My fiance and I have spent a lot of nights out at Casa, and would continue to do so if we hadn't moved so far away. We still try to make it up there at least once a month. We always have a great time, whether we're taking salsa lessons, dancing with the wait staff, celebrating New Year's Eve or enjoying the mariachi band. Chips were cold, is it just me or do others like hot chips at restaurants? Ordered Chicken/Steak Quesadilla Fajita, lunch portion - which is plenty! Taste was good. Friday night and the place is full ... They told us 10 min to sit two of us ... People sitting next to us waiting have a table of 10 to sit they were told 10 min also they have been waiting 45 min ... There are open tables in the bar area .... Been here before food is good so we will see been waiting 20min so its not looking very promising so far..... So after 35 min we get to a table ( that was empty for the entire time we waited ) it was in full view ! The food was OK and the service was very very very slow ... My coworkers and I were craving chicken tortilla soup, so we ordered it from Casa Real. Worst soup I have ever had. It was basically chicken broth with some shredded chicken. They forgot to put cheese in mine. It had no flavor, no spice. It was the equivalent of eating a bowl of plain chicken broth. So disappointing. read more
