I've had this place before moving to Las Vegas plenty of times living in Oracle. Now being back, I got a breakfast burrito. The burrito had bacon, eggs, potatoes, cheese and I add chorizo to my burros lol. The burrito seemed to have made an improvement. It was portioned correctly, still large but rolled perfectly. Before they used to be bulgy. The chorizo used to be super spicy, this time is more mild. After this burro I'll be back for breakfast again. The place never changed inside and out. Still a little Mexican restaurant in a small town. Service still nice, you'll see the same faces when you order there. read more

We stopped in for breakfast on our way to the backside of Mt. Lemmon. Debating between their breakfast burrito and the huevos rancheros, the huevos won out. The eggs were done perfectly, the beans tasty and the ranchero sauce alright, but not outstanding. A good dollop of salsa spiced up the sauce. The service was good and the coffee cup kept full. The tortilla was hot and tasty. They continue to do a great take out business and clearly they are one the locals favorite destinations. I debated giving a fourth star but held off once again. We will return and see about a fourth since they are clearly at least a 3 1/2. read more

Once again tried Casa Rivera. Unfortunately another bad mistake! Ordered a Cheeseburger and fries. The fries were really good, but unfortunately the burger sucked. It was extremely overcooked and dried out. The burger should be nicely done but not overcooked until it is more like a hockey puck. This was hopefully going to be good, but it was not. A better cook is needed, that knows how not to make a hockey puck out of a burger. read more

We stopped by here on our drive to Tucson for dinner last night and it seemed pretty busy with both dine-in and take-out customers. Our server was very friendly and we all liked our food. The salsa from the chips and salsa was pretty spicy but delicious. I got the #2 and it's pretty much 2 meals because of how big the burrito is. I added chicken to the cheese enchilada and this was so good. I highly recommend just ordering their enchiladas. The green chile beef burrito didn't seem to have anything other than beef in the tortilla so I wouldn't get this one again. read more

Been here a long time ago and was loving the family owned and operated atmosphere of a small restaurant. They are now having take out only due to the COVID pandemic. You can find their menu on their facebook page. Simply call in your order and go pick up. My husband went inside to pay, and he said there was tape on the floor as a guide for the social distancing. I had the cheese enchiladas (which is my go to meal whenever I eat out Mexican) and the hubby had the chicken enchiladas. The cheese enchiladas with rice & beans combo was very good. They use a medium enchilada sauce, which has just the right amount of kick to it. The hubby said the chicken was very good and would give it a 4 out of 5. This out of the way gem, is very reasonably priced as well for their meals. Get out of the house, make a night of it. Call in your order, pick a secluded spot, have dinner in your car or spread out a blanket somewhere. Every time I'm in the Tucson area, a trip to Oracle for some Casa Rivera is a must! This is where you go if you want massive portions of authentic homemade Mexican food. The family that owns it is so welcoming and friendly. The house salsa is fantastic and one of my key indicators when I'm judging a Mexican restaurant. Don't be turned off by the rustic looking exterior, or the very basic looking interior. Just eat and enjoy, and get a box for leftovers because you'll have them. I love the all meat burritos enchilada style with the red chile pork or the green chile beef. The meat is always so flavorful and tender. Some helpful tips: -They are closed on Saturdays because they are 7th Day Adventist -I've seen some complaints about not serving beer. This is a BYOB joint. They'll totally let you bring your own drinks. -Go on Fridays for their clam chowder, which you wouldn't expect to find at a place like this. But it's amazingly great! -I can't get enough of their hot house salsa! If you want some to take home they do sell it $6.25 for a 32 oz container. Not a bad deal. read more

We've been three times for take out and dine in. We often come to Oracle for hiking and always stop here on our way out. I've tried something different each time and each time the food is amazing. So I saw this somehow on yelp and the picture had me salivating. So I called up my riding buddies and we decided to make a trip to Oracle. When you pull up itz a small little hole in the wall place. You can tell its been around a while. We came in and sat ourselves. The place right now only has a few tables open due to COVID, but we had room. I got the 2 shredded beef tacos combo. As always the combo is rice and beans. The food was pretty damn good! The portions where HUGE for the price. All my other guests all said the same thing, it was great. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how good the food is here. Had a carnitas burrito and it's one of the best I've tasted in the 2 years living in the Tucson area. Little roadside taco shop. Great service, good food, average prices. We had the carne asada burrito, it was large enough to share. As an appetizer we had the cheese crisp, so delicious and cheesy. You can expect to get in, served and enjoy your meal in under an hour. Fresh chips and salsa are ready for you at your table upon arrival. We stopped here after our trip to biosphere2, it wasn't on our way back to Tucson, but was less than 5 minutes away. read more

We stopped in for lunch last weekend and they were definitely popular. This is a cozy place that can fill up pretty quickly. Nothing fancy, but it felt clean. Their complimentary chips are tasty but the salsa is too spicy for this sissy girl. My Manfolk likes it spicy but it was too even too spicy for him. They serve the chips "prepackaged" in a little bowl with saran wrap. Just a unique way of doing things. I had one of the standard combination plates. Crisp taco, cheese enchilada. This isn't a ground-breaking order so it's not like I would be wowed either way. The service was OK, just had to ask for refills, etc. from the waitress. With the number of Mexican restaurants around, I doubt we'll be back. read more

After driving down the back road from Mt. Lemmon after hiking all day we were hungry. The reviews were good and so we made a stop. We were all super glad we did. I got the veggie burrito, enchilada style. It was delicious and HUGE. The staff was not exaggerating when they said these were big burritos. My boyfriend got an all meat burrito, also enchilada style, and loved it. One kid got the kid's bean and cheese burrito, and she loved it. It was smaller than the adult burritos but still good sized. She managed to eat more than any of us and she's the tiniest. The other kid got the veggie burrito and while he's normally a picky eater, he loved it! The prices are very reasonable especially for how much food you get. The menu has a ton of options, they all looked tempting and I don't even eat meat. They do take cards now, by the way. Closed Saturdays as the owners are SDA but open all other days. The only thing I was sad about is I went at a time breakfast was not being served. But that's a me problem, not a them problem. There were four of us and two of us ordered platter 10 (one cheese enchilada and one ground beef taco) and two ordered platter 5 (three shredded beef flautas). All four were happy. The beans: creamy, cheesy goodness. The rice: perfect. The guac: fresh and flavorful. Salsa: spicy. Cheese enchilada: I wish every enchilada I ordered tasted like this. I devoured it. Ground beef taco: the beef was delicious - a big compliment coming from my mom - and I love that the shell was a freshly fried corn tortilla. This was not greasy at all. As we were leaving we passed by two people eating taco salads - the salad shells looked amazing. Bring cash - the gas station across the road has an ATM. read more

Yes this place is a whole in the wall but where else do you get some of the best home cooking food. Stopped here yesterday for lunch after driving in the back country and we were starving. The menu has a good selection and all of it is homemade. I had the #1 (see photo) my parents had the #10 and a ala cart green tamale. The red sauce is the best I have had in a long time. The portion won't let you leave hungry. The price is very reasonable. The service here makes you feel like you are at a friends house, not in a restaurant. Their hours are 6:30 am to 8:30 pm Sunday - Friday and closed on Saturday. Bring cash or check they don't take credit cards ( I can understand with how much they charge per swipe). Good new is the are building a patio this summer for some Arizona dining. read more
