Since I'm not familiar with Staten Island, a friend recommended this place for dinner and very glad she did! We were seated immediately and our order was taken promptly. While we waited for our clams oreganata appetizer to be served, soft music piped through out the restaurant as we sipped on chianti and munched on a basket of warm bread including focaccia and breadsticks. Overall the clams were well seasoned and tasty followed by a house salad. When our entrees were served, I was taken back by how much food was on the plate. I ordered the chicken francese and my boyfriend ordered scungilli and linguini; both were excellent! The ample portions were enough for leftovers the next night. To top off the meal, we shared a red velvet cake along with a cappacino and expresso on the house; the cake's icing was a little too sweet for my taste. In summary, we both enjoyed our dining experience at Casanova. The staff was very attentive, food prepared to our liking and for the amount of food we had, the price was reasonable. My coworker and I were in town for work and needed a place to eat. A quick search brought us to Casanova and we were not disappointed. The complimentary bread basket is just as good as everyone raves about, complete with 3 different toppings. We both got the Prix-Fare menu and each tried different things. The salads were perfect, the appetizer portions were generous and the main courses seemed to be bigger then they should be for the $29.95 price tag. Was just there last night. 8-15-22. I got the pre fixe special which was $30. Started out with a salad. Then came a plate of mozzarella sticks. In all my years of dining out, I have never seen any place give you 12 sticks for an appetizer. Its usually 6 or maybe 8. They were good and fried to perfection. Next up was chicken marsala. Cooked nicely and very tasty. Came with potato and vegetable. The big star of the meal is their amazing bread basket. Also comes with a small plate of bruschetta. Desert and coffee comes with that too, but didn't have any. Wait staff was very attentive. Filled my water glass constantly and asked if everything was OK. Monday is karaoke night and the music went on until after midnight. I had a very nice time and wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Under new ownership right now. I can't help but laugh while writing this review, my experience was comical to say the least. I went here for a family party, we used the private room in the back. Upon entry you are greeted with what I can only describe as the oh so familiar "porta potty smell". Once in the room, we noticed a giant hole in the ceiling that had been patched up with tape and loose pieces of plastic. There's no changing table in either bathroom so that's fun with a baby. My FAVORITE part is how horrendously dirty the floor was (picture provided). My white shoes were black from this carpet, like truck stop dirty! The food was mediocre at best. I gave them 2 stars because the staff was quick and attentive but probably because they didn't want to be on the carpet for too long. After reading some of the negative reviews of Casanova, we must have eaten at different restaurants. I was there last Saturday night for a birthday party. The food was EXCELLENT -- from the antipasto to the dessert. I am of Italian/Sicilian heritage, so I know how traditional Italian food should taste. The garlic bread, bruschetta, and focaccia were the best I've ever tasted. The eggplant parm was delicious. I ordered the filet of sole oregonata, and even the side of broccoli was fab. I don't usually rate a restaurant because I don't care for the food, but this restaurant not only had bland tasting food for what I ate, but I also felt I was ripped off. I looked at the menu on Yelp and saw a dish I wanted to try, Rigatoni Beverly Hills. It was pasta with chicken, broccoli in a sun-dried tomato vodka sauce. ($16). When I got to the restaurant, the menu was different than what was on Yelp. This dish I wanted to try was not on there. The waiter said, not a problem, we can make that up. He then said it came with an Italian salad. I asked which veggies were on the salad and after he told me, I asked him to eliminate 2 things if he could. He then said, why don't you take a Caesar salad, I said fine. The Caesar salad dressing was plentiful on the lettuce and had absolutely no taste. It was like lettuce with something wet on it. I have never had such a bland Caesar salad, ever. Then my dish came out. VERY large bowl, enough for dinner and Lunch the next day (had it been tasty). This too, bland. No flavors. I ate a bit because I was hungry, had them wrap it up and I tossed it in the garbage when I got to my hotel. But one of the reasons I am more upset then eating food that had no taste, is that when I asked for the bill, he never gave it to me, but told me it was $26 dollars and $28 if I was paying by credit card. I had no drinks, no apps, nothing extra that was not included. I felt he was taking advantage and pocketing the cash. The bread was also extremely hot and when eating it, it was like it was microwaved. Not crunchy like fresh baked bread. I am sure there are better places to eat on Staten Island. read more

We went in for a late lunch early dinner last week. We ordered from the pre fixe menu. The most delicious bread basket and assorted dips were awesome. We both had baked clams, I had pasta fagioli and my husband had a salad. Then we each had veal parmigiana. We didn't want pasta so we had broccoli and a potato croquette. Then we each had a tortoni for dessert. The portions were plentiful. The croquette needed more seasoning and the broccoli was too well done. My only food complaint. The rest of the food was delicious. The service was on point. There were many items to choose from. You can't go wrong for $30 per person. The outside of the restaurant had no curb appeal. I wouldn't have gone there based on how it looks from the outside but I heard it was so good so we tried it. The inside is a bit dated and the bathrooms weren't the cleanest. There must be a camp nearby as camp counselors were in and out of the bathroom. I heard this week that there were new owners. Hopefully the menu stays the same and some sprucing up is done both inside and outside. We will most likely return. read more
