1st off huge mistake ordering Lomo Saltado. Why a Mexican restaurant would try and make a Peruvian dish is beyond me. But why I listened to the waiter was idiotic. The portion was small and you have to pay extra if you want rice. The other dish which was a joke was the Skirt steak. This is the first time I been to a Mexican restaurant and had to pay for rice and beans. For $32 you get 7oz skirt steak and tortillas. This place is a rip off. Parking can be terrible on a busy night. Backlot parking but limited on spaces. Service was superb! My drinks were made well and not heavily watered down or full of only juice. Spike and Mike were awesome to our whole party the entire night. They were definitely on point! Margaritas are a killer FOOD - so please note that this is a take on a modern mexican cuisine so yes the food will be overpriced and tacos are not $1 Food is a great concept however, i did feel some of the plates were under-seasoned. Cannot recommend this place enough. Wowwww. Flavor bomb after flavor bomb goes off in my mouth every time I head into this wonderful establishment that calls itself home inside of an adorable casita/stucco home built (I'm assuming) before mid-century. The main dining area feels like a homey beautiful living room and the outdoor space can only be described as a South American zen garden. I love the food here AND the service. Came for happy hour . It's a hidden gem in Riverside drive . Right when you see the sign turn in . There's a small parking lot on the back. I missed it the first time . The ambiance is really nice . We went to Cascabel for the first time last night. It was a Friday night and we went early since we were hungry then. They opened at 4:00 and we were there by 4:15. We were seated immediately on the patio which was nice. Social distancing was in place and the staff wore s and shields. The margaritas were good. We had the bacon guacamole which was delicious. They give you the first bowl of chips free, there's a note on the menu that additional cops are $3. They are probably defending themselves from those that only come for a beer and all you can eat chips but as cheap as chips are and their drink prices are not exactly low it seems kind a weird thing to not give free. We had two margaritas each, guacamole, I had lobster tacos (comes with 3 small but tasty tacos) and my wife had shrimp tacos ( comes with 2 small tacos), a side of black beans and we paid $103 plus tip. I do have to say the recipes are good. Everything tasted delicious, I'd say above par. I heard that if you sit on the front patio area they play a movie on an inflatable screen though we were there way before it was dark so we didn't see it. First of all - loved the exterior and interior of this place. Gorgeous spanish style restaurant with great ambiance. We stopped by earlier this week for dinner and were seated at an interior table by a window where the sun was blazing right into my boyfriend's face. The host didn't seem to notice, so he moved his chair to the side and sat in the aisle until the sun went down further. It would have been nice to have been offered another seating option. We grabbed 2 margaritas and an order of taquitos on the happy hour menu. The margarita was excellent. The taquitos were okay, but nothing special and a very small portion. We then ordered the chorizo quesadilla to share, and I have to say I just did not enjoy the flavor combinations at all. It was almost inedible and the strong cheese with the mushroom just wasn't my cup of tea. I'd definitely recommend trying something else on the menu, along with a margarita. My husband threw a surprise birthday dinner here with friends and it was such a cute spot, he pulled it off successfully. They have delicious drinks, the hibiscus margarita is my favorite I had two and by the second I was feeling fabulous! Guacamole was divine, love their house made salsa and chips. My favorite was the ahi tostada. Highly recommend! I have to admit, I was a little disappointed because I wanted lobster tacos so very badly, and you know after two margaritas that would fulfill any seafood lover's craving but they were cold lobster ceviche style and I LOVE a good ceviche but I wanted temperature hot lobster tacos. When we needed something, they would forget and we would have to ask multiple times, the most might have been 5, because no one was checking on us or they would forget? I don't know. The host was the one who seemed to be covering and getting things in a timely manner after we had asked multiple times already. Also, friend asked for a few tacos to go, and never received them, but the wait person acknowledged the additional order and then just forgot about it? It was just bad. Also, will add the crew bringing out the dishes were good too. But our main person, not so good. Just disappointing because it used to be so good when they first opened and before this pandemic. Came here for dinner with a group of six people for a friends birthday party as I have been here a few other times as well and had all great experiences. I love the atmosphere and the vibe of this place. The food is awesome and they have an interesting menu. For drinks we started with a few of the signature margarita's which is blanco tequila, citrus, triple sec, and fresh ginger. We started with the smoked bacon guacamole, chorizo quesadilla which is maitake mushroom chorizo, oaxacan/gouda cheese and caramelized onions, also the queso fundido which had oaxacan/gouda cheese, black beans, and onions..... They were all awesome especially the queso and I recommend starting with that. For dinner we ordered the fried chicken tacos, duck confit tacos, and the lobster tacos. We also ordered the chicken mole negro with seasonal vegetables, pepitas, sesame seeds, and slowed cooked mole negro. In addition to the tacos and mole we got the sea scallops which were served with white beans & celery root, radish, serrano chile, and cilantro. Everything was awesome. The chips and salsa are fantastic as the chips are warm and the homemade salsa is fresh... they are not stingy in serving them either. Our waitress Michelle was beyond awesome as she had a great personality, offered up the right menu selections, and gave us fast service. We stayed until closing and even though we were the last people in the restaurant we never felt like they wanted us to leave.
