This was my first trip to New York, I stayed for five days. This place was recommended by the bellhop at the hotel where I stayed. I went there every morning for breakfast and coffee, the food was outstanding. I've never had bacon that wasn't greasy and fatty. This bacon was amazing, the service was great. They had a variety of things that you could get breakfast lunch or dinner. They stayed open 24 hours so if you ever in New York and you near Times Square, make sure you check out this café. I was looking for breakfast place not far from our hotel in Manhattan. I saw in Yelp there was the Cascade Cafe at the corner of the block we were staying in. So the next morning we walked down to the deli at the corner of West 54th and 8th Avenue. Walked right up to the counter and saw examples of what we wanted (like the plastic models of food we see in Japan). We ordered two small Mochas which were freshly steamed and a few minutes later we were enjoying our breakfast. It's a small space but ample for a quick meal - and the food was very good. I had French Toast with bacon - the toast was good and thick, battered just right and sprinkled with powdered sugar - the bacon was not skimpy but appropriately thick and more of a center cut with a good amount of meat (rather than fat and gristle). My wife had two eggs over easy served on avocado toast with lettuce and tomato. A hearty meal to start a day of sightseeing. We came back another day later in the week and shared a croissant breakfast sandwich - the croissant was very fresh and the combo was tasty. read more

I normally only come here at night after work but this time I decided to come in during the day. I normally get one of their cakes that they offer and today I got a carrot cake. When I came home, the bottom of the carrot cake was moldy and I didn't notice until I had taken a bite. It was dry and very bitter. So I think it might've been sitting out for a while. Friends, woke up on my first day in Manhattan!! Walked across the street from our hotel, freezing cold with little Christmas snow flurries in the air!! Five stars for Cascade Cafe in Midtown. Christmas morning, place was humming staff on point, smiles everywhere, line moved like butter. Got an egg and bacon croissant; crisp on the outside, packed with fluffy scrambled eggs, big strips of bacon $9 and change with coffee. Coffee was strong, smooth, kept me going. Kitchen's open so you see everything flying off the grill. Vibe's warm. Fast, friendly, perfect before a walk through the park. A nice 24/7 spot near my apartment. If you want a cheesesteak or pastrami sandwich late at night, they're open and will make it for you. The service matches a bodega. They seem more than happy to make a hot sandwich for you at 12:30am, and if they're willing to do that, that's what you want. Are they going to share some niceties with you at the same time, probably not. If you're looking for late night niceties from a sandwich man at a bodega in midtown, maybe you have a different situation you need to fix than a sandwich. I was waiting for a friend who had already eaten. I had not and we were going to a play shortly. I stopped in at the Cascade Cafe and told her to meet me there. I looked over what was available. They have a salad area, they make fresh sandwiches, paninis are available along with snacks, candy and a wide drink selection. I opted to get an italian panini and a bottled water. It is very clean place, a corner unit and open for 24 hours. There are several tables as well as counter seating along the window for people watching. My food was ready quickly and I opted to sit at one of the tables. The snacks are somewhat overpriced [It is NYC] but the other dining options are on par with the area. It was quick and convenient and I would recommend, especially if you want something quick, hot and don't want a restaurant type meal. read more

Great find when staying down the block at the Hotel Ameritania! It is open 24/7 and has good food at reasonable prices. I would only come back out of the convenience factor in that it's right on 9th Ave in a very good location on the corner. There's ample seating area, but I've only gotten food on the go here. My second or third time to come here. Tip: If you ever order after 11 am on a weekend, they add $1 to your item! Came in here on a rainy day. This place is pretty depressing to be honest with you. I think it got hit hard during the pandemic. There were barely any customers on a busy and main street. I feel bad for places like these, you can tell it's barely hanging on by a thread and can't compete with the mega corporations. Aside from the standard CVS or Duane Reade pharmacies and supermarkets, vitamin water is not an easy find. There are also a good selection of sweets in the cupcake department where my eyes were locked on the chocolate chip and Squiggle cupcakes. I'll be honest, I usually only come here if the line is out the door across the street at Pick A Bagel (and I don't get bagels here because they don't always have veggie cream cheese) but like I said, you can get a nice turkey sandwich for lunch or a tasty bacon egg and cheese on a roll for breakfast. Great diner with a stereotypical NY vibe. Giant glass displays are filled with sandwiches, meats, and deserts. I went for breakfast and had the pastrami omelet with home fries and toast. It was really good and only about $8. My fiancé had the lox bagel and said it was the best one she had ever had. The atmosphere was great because of the giant storefront windows allowing us to sit and just watch the morning hustle. We have tried a couple of diners in the Manhattan area and this one definitely rates in the top two on my list. read more

Found this little cafe on my way out of the city and it has to be God that led us here. It was quite busy for a Sunday morn, so I knew that it had to be good. The service moves quickly & in a NYish kinda way. I had a hard time choosing from all of the delicious looking options (salads, wraps, paninis, omelettes, smoothies, teas/coffees, etc) So I finally decided on the chicken parm panini. I swear it was even better than I had already salivatedly imagined. There was a very generous amount of chicken, shredded but with the perfect blend of chicken chunks. The sauce, OMG the sauce! I'm gonna assume that it's homemade because it was soooooo delicious. And the mozzarella was melted just right. While the outside was toasted perfectly, it could've stayed in the oven just a little longer to heat up the inside more. But that didn't really take away from the overall experience. I wish I would've gotten one to go because I woke up this morning thinking about that sandwich. It is definitely on my list for my return visit. read more

Prices are slightly, but not offensively, high. The place is clean and convenient, so no complaints there. Staff here were super nice and quick - meaning that the meal was reasonably and quickly prepared - but didn't really seem to do much other than throw ingredients together. The breakfast sandwiches I've had here range from good (sausage, egg, and bacon) to the mediocre (grilled chicken and egg whites). The bagels here are solid, but not mind blowing. I'd consider this "convenience food" - stuff I grab because I'm hungry, not stuff that I go out of my way to eat. All in all, an okay option. read more

I stopped by here this morning with my fiancé and her parents for breakfast. We were walking by and decided to pop in after seeing the deli cases full of food. The inside isn't too big but boy was it cold in there. My fiancé and her mom were both shivering for quite a few minutes until they drank some coffee to get warm. For breakfast I decided to order the egg and cheese sandwich on white and a large coffee while the rest of our group ordered 2 egg white vegetable wraps. The coffee here was pretty miserable tasting which was confirmed by my fiancé. In addition to that, my first cup also had a slow leak out of the bottom so I asked for another. That cup also had a slow leak in the same spot and so I imagine that the whole case might have. Unlike the coffee my sandwich was awesome. The best way for me to describe it is a great grilled cheese sandwich with egg on it. A crispy crunchy exterior with a warm and gooey interior, it was terrific. The others at the table also said that they enjoyed their wraps. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While I would certainly avoid the coffee, the food certainly hit the spot. read more

Speaking for myself, I will never step foot inside this establishment. Just went in for a sandwich and the guy behind the counter was working with another customer. The sandwich area has a large selection of toppings for the sandwich. As he was preparing the other customers sandwich he reached inside the topper cabinet with half his body to reach for a topping. His baseball cap fell off his head onto the lettuce, tomatoes and other items. His cap sat right on the food head side down. I mean who knows how much food was contaminated but he simply picked up his hat and set it aside and continued making the sandwich. Nope. Didn't remove anything. How nasty can that get!
