I don't come into Olympia as often as I used to but I really love this restaurant so I may start coming back up here more often again. I came in the summer time last year with a friend and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere and fun decor of the place, they had amazing live music that night and the food and drinks were certainly great. I was thinking of going to Nicole's bar (which is another good place nearby) for their breakfast today but ended up getting into Olympia a little too late to make it in time for their breakfast and I remembered my great experience here so I ended up deciding on coming back to Cascadia today in the early afternoon before going to visit another friend in Olympia. This time I was alone and got a nice little seat outside to enjoy the sunshine. I forgot the name of my waiter but he was such a nice guy. I had the kombucha wine spritzer, the Indochine baguette and for dessert an absolutely GLORIOUS slice of brown sugar pie with vanilla ice cream ! The kombucha wine spritzer was refreshing for this warm day, the indochine baguette which is their version of a ban mi (Vietnamese sandwich) was so yummy as were the fries that came with it... I had so many people walk by me that complimented on how delicious my sandwich looked and I'm pretty sure I helped them get some extra business because many of these people went right in to see if they could get a table lol .. as wonderful as the drink and sandwich were though, the dessert I got was the best part !!! Last time I came with my friend I had their vegan carrot cake which was great- I love me some carrot cake- but this pie was next level !! When I told my waiter I wanted to get that for dessert he told me it was an excellent choice and described it as being like the brown sugar pop tarts but the brown sugar portion is creamy and that's exactly how I would describe it as well ! This place was a nice surprise during our walk through downtown Olympia! You know when you were a kid, and you would go to the house of a grandparent or an eccentric aunt for Thanksgiving? Walking in to Cascadia Grill is kinda like that. Although the walls are tiled floor to ceiling with photographs of celebrities and local figures, they give the place a homely vibe, like walking into Nana's living room...if she also decorated with cardboard cutouts of Bigfoot strolling in front of the Olympia skyline. Although we only sat down for a couple of cocktails and a snack while we wandered around downtown Olympia, our waiter was prompt and friendly, as he rattled off a ridiculously long list of specials; we didn't have the heart to interrupt him to place our humble order! Overwhelmed by the massive menu and the options recited to us, we split a charcuterie plate ("The Guido") because a couple at a nearby table seemed enraptured by it, and two "Sexy Water" cocktails, which were basically dirty Shirley Temples by another name. High quality cuts of meat, goat cheese, and the usual suspects of pepperoncini and olives graced the cutting board, and our drinks were light and refreshing. Omg!!! So yummy!!! Found this place on yelp and drove about 15 miles to get here and so worth the drive. Artichoke heart was so good and super flavorful. The baguettes was sweet and spicy .... My dad drives by here constantly thinking it was only a bar...he was wrong. He's stated now how it will be a regular spot. We're both huge on Cobb salads and we annihilated the one they served us. We've tried a lot of different kinds...this one beat them all. Their was so much bacon (that was still warm), giant chunks of blue cheese, and home made blue cheese dressing. If it wasn't considered bad manners I would have licked the plate. My dad loved the wings as well because they were the perfect amount of spicy. The main courses were delicious too. My rare steak with the hollandaise sauce was cooked perfectly and the cocktail sauce with the shrimp had the perfect amount of horse radish. The ahi was seasoned and cooked well and the noodles were nice and lite. My dad loved his plate,but couldn't help from stealing from mine. He's a big fry person so those big slice of potatoes being the type of crispy he likes was too hard to stay away from. Finally we had brown sugar pie and it was our first time trying it. All I can say is just eat it. It's so delectable I don't even have the words to describe it. It's replacing my usual cake on my birthday for sure. So cute inside as well and the staff was amazing! Cascadia has a welcoming atmosphere that's makes you think of those "one stop shopping " restaurants in rural America tv shows. It's multi-purposed for the characters to hangout at the bar, gossip over lunch and also serves as the only spot for date night. The menu is very broad- continuing to add to the "you can get anything here" attitude of the joint. They have put effort into including dishes from all over the world- or at least inspired by a wide pallet. This is a nice touch, but I do wonder how many people actually order them, or what the quality is. While I appreciate the sentiment around the structure of the menu, it had a little bit of a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none feel. I ordered the salmon over greens, opting to skip the risotto. Essentially I was hoping for a salmon salad. It was just ok. The risotto was likely the selling point, and the waiter seemed surprised when I chose not to include it. The salmon was dry. I should have ordered it medium rare- that was my fault. We got an order of a creamy pasta dish which was probably the lowest ranking. The pasta was tots mush. It was really really really really overcooked. It was difficult to focus on the flavor of the sauce cus it was so mushy. We started the mea with a shared plate of poutine- a nod to our closest country neighbor- amidst the offerings from all over the globe. They were salty and satisfying and all the things you're looking for from a mound of fries and cheese and gravy. The clear winner of the dinner were the fried chicken sandwiches that came with seasoned fries. Two folks in our party got that. The chicken was well cooked and succulent, the fries were perfectly seasoned. It was a very good sandwich! Our takeaway from this experience is that we should come back and treat it as food pub fair. Rather than looking for a locally caught piece of fish, I should lean towards comfort food. The wait staff was friendly and competent and overall we had a good experience. Wow wow, my wife and I came in for lunch. A two top outside let us enjoy a nice day. My wife had a salad and chili. Grilled lettuce excellent chili. I've eaten at Cascadia Grill several times in the past few years. It's been fine-food and service. But this time, we were very disappointed. The french fries were just about inedible-soft and greasy which I notice others have complained about. Just couldn't choke those down! The second issue concerns the bill. I noticed that we had been overcharged and took it up with our server/cashier. Her response was "oh, you must have ordered off an old menu, our prices have gone up". What??? They change prices and don't change the menu? I think their food is overpriced to begin with, but how sloppy can you be? She took off only $2. and was obviously pissed to have to do that. We didn't want a scene, so accepted being cheated and went on our way. There are so many other great restaurants in Olympia, that I wouldn't waste my time again with Cascadia Grill. Full disclosure: I only come here when it's not busy. I'm picky that way, as too many people around me when I'm trying to eat gives me hives. With that being said, I love this place. Service has always been good, very often great, with friendly staff. Ummm, can we talk about the DB Cooper? Can we? It's a monster burger - two patties, three slices of cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle and A PILE of corned beef on top. It's insane. Also with corned beef is their excellent Rueben, which is worth a try if you even remotely enjoy a well-put together sammich. They have a good selection for the vegetarian/vegan peeps, too. One of the last times I went, they had some sort of fried polenta with cheese special thing, and it was so good I blacked out and have since forgotten what it actually was. We discovered this place on Yelp and our bar tender at our hotel confirmed this was the place to go for a good meal. After backpacking for 5 days and eating freeze dried meals and Cliff bars, we were ready for a big, hearty meal. Cascadia certainly delivered! We all got the garlic steak which came with a bernaise sauce, lightly dressed arugula, and herby potatoes. Everything was delicious, the beverage selection was satisfying and the service was wonderful. Our server was so friendly and genuine, it felt like he was one of our buddies. The owner even stopped by to chat with us a bit and was so nice. There were a lot of other menu options too but we were all craving a good steak. Saw this place and couldn't wait to try it! Local feel right down town Olympia. This place is cozy, homey and fun. Dining area seating as well as bar seats. Great place to meet up with friends as they have a good wine/ cocktail menu. Also a nice " date " night spot. The bathrooms show a little humor. You have a door labeled " Dick" or "Jane". Inside, the walls are scattered with pictures of the famous namesakes. The menus has a nice varied selection of meat, pasta, burgers, sandwiches, seafood and several vegan choices. We started with the poutine and was one of the best I've had. The brown gravy over the fries was perfect. We then opted for the salmon with risotto cake and a wine reduction. Was delicious. The other plate we ordered was a pasta dish. Tomato, garlic and very tasty. We had the lavender lemonade .........and then another! :-) The staff are friendly and were helpful in suggesting some of their favorite dishes on the menu. Vegans rejoice! This is my favorite vegan restaurant anywhere in the PNW (even though they serve both vegan and omni items). Quality: Everything is flavorful and delicious. My favorite is the Creole Penne! Great, rich sauce, amazing use of veggies, and well cooked pasta. Quantity: more than enough! When we walked in it smelled amazing! Started off with a local beer from Ground Mound nice and cold! The waitress was fantastic and friendly taking our order quickly. The food came out in about 10 to 15 minutes. The food was delicious! We asked for our fries to be extra crispy and they were cooked perfectly! The room was a little warn due to the summer heat but it was not unpleasant. The only minor issue that surprised me was there was an up-charge for not using cash. So we popped in just to use the restroom and because it smelled so fresh and clean and the staff was friendly we decided to dine in after asking and glad we asked!! So I decided on the crispy trout salad with balsamic vinegarette but it was tough I almost went for the "hen that crossed the road"and it was a very big salad for $19.50 I only ate half. Ruby red fish served to broil with greens grape tomatoes red onions hard boiled egg and this yogurt aioli sauce the taste was fantastic and I usually don't order trout unless my husband Cooks it but this trout was very fresh and well prepared!! My cousin ordered Juju's pasta, we thought it said juju's sauce and immediately was in the mood for French dips lol, ahh sike!! Anyway Juju's pasta have thin spaghetti with grape tomatoes crimini mushrooms and capers tossed and garlic and olive oil served with pieces of sliced baguette. Next we had a garden burger, for another cousin who was the birthday girl and is vegan this burger was a plant-based Burger also served gluten free served with American cheese tomato onion pickles and mayo. We love potatoes at this table and these were fresh cut french fries I do have to add they even tasted just as good the day after. And to end our day at this restaurant we had a slice of the vegan carrot cake I'm not vegan but I do love vegan food and this carrot cake was not too sweet not as moist as a regular carrot cake but still very good it was not dry for $7 and guests have been known just to come for a slice of cake and I would be one of those guests!! I had the Steak Frites Bleu and my husband had the Cohos Gone Wild. I ended up subbing my side for the deep fried mushroom risotto cake because it sounded so amazing and I was not sad I did. First, both of our mains were to die for. The salmon perfectly seared with some sort of chutney like sauce on the side (pure heaven). The steak also had the perfect sear (I requested medium and it was perfect) and the sauce was some sort of direct descendent from heaven. Then you add the risotto cake and... does life get better!?!
