Caspers Hot Dogs is now Corkys! Same building, and from what I understand, new ownership. With a few new spots in the Richmond area, we decided to take a trip through Richmond to see what's new and changing. Corky's remains just as delicious in my opinion as Caspers. Super old-school, nostalgic dog house still featuring all the Caspers' classics. We ordered the cheese dog because I feel like that's a must. The cheese comes grated and cold, and is just the most perfect topping. The Corky's "with everything" basically means tomatoes and onions (you can get the onions sliced or diced), mustard and relish. I did the ketchup instead of the freshly-sliced tomatoes. We also tried the house-made chili topped with cheese (comes with white crackers). So comforting, and surprised I've never had this before today. The combo meals come with a drink and bag of chips ~ other dog options include hot link, chicken, all beef, and polish. I even saw a Pickle Dog on the menu :) There is a parking lot adjacent. Staff is so sweet and even came around the counter to give the kiddo a magic trick and hot dog candy. We heard there may be fun merch on the way and also a few new menu items coming soon too. Worthy of a stop-inside if hot diggity dogs are your kryptonite. read more

New owner, same dogs - same staff I've literally been coming here my entire life - since the early 60's. Really wanted to support the new owner & the old staff - same great food as always too. But......to hear & watch & hear the new owner behind the counter micro-managing & lecturing his hard working staff killed the old vibe. It really ain't all that complicated - they seemed to be managing just fine all those years before him. It was going on when we walked in the door & continued nonstop through our meal until the door shut behind us. First time trying Casper's Hot Dogs in Richmond and it is a great old fashioned hot dog joint. The employees are very sweet, welcoming and friendly. My review is solely on the taste of the chili, based on the length of the establishment, i expected it to taste better than Wienerschnitzel, it definitely is better than others I've had but not the best. I do like that they add a lot of toppings to your taste. I also like that they accept Apple Pay and I will try the chili bowl next time. read more

I love Caspers I have been eating at one or another location since we moved to the east bay in 1988! Since moving to the north bay I don't get enough of a fix now! When I was driving to my folks I need some dinner and remembered this location! Casper's is a Time Machine and though I wasn't alive in the 70's but I am pretty sure it hasn't changed! Is it the nicest place, no but that's not why you go! For the longest time they didn't take cash, so nice to see they at least have that technology. Casper's has the best hot dogs I have had in Northern California, and up there with the best I have ever had! For sure their hot dogs have the snap of any I have had! I got 3 Casper dogs and one with cheese (get the cheese, I regret not having all 3 with cheese). Every bite was pure nostalgia! read more

The food : Caspers is literally a classic, tastes the exact same! The Casper dog with cheese and jalapeños was my go to so I had to get that! The service here was great. Both of the people that helped me were very friendly! My meal was $13 and some change and honestly like I said .. my mom used to bring me here so idk what the price used to be like but that's not bad for the the hotdog, chips, AND a nice size drink! Growing up in the Peninsula most of my life, I wasn't too familiar with Caspers Hot Dogs. In fact, I didn't know anything about them, to be honest. I just happen to be at Richmond Civic Center taking care of some personal matter and after returning to my car, I was about to drive off, but I noticed this bright, orange-colored structure staring right at me from a block away. First of all, anything that is colored orange will immediately get my attention for obvious reasons (Go Giants), and this one was practically screaming at me. I didn't start my car and ended up removing my keys from the ignition and began walking here. The architecture has a 50's old diner look to it, but only in a more compact package. The place is tiny, but it's cute and certainly stands out. They certainly have the branding on point since there's a "Caspers" sign on top of the structure and a signpost for a double whammy. Due to Covid, take-out orders at this time. When I walked in, there was a customer placing their order, but the ladies greeted me so warmly that I felt so welcomed. The menu is on the rear left of the place, and it's a simple, minimal old-school menu. Since they're famous for their hotdogs, I got a chili cheese dog ($6.69) with everything on it. The lady that was making my dog kept referring to me as "Honey" and had me buzzin' like a bee. Besides, the way that she asked if I wanted everything on it, I just couldn't resist. Really though, both of them were so sweet, friendly and lovely that I felt like on Cloud 9 and grinning from ear to ear. When I got back to my car, I had plans of devouring it, but quickly realized that wasn't going to happen with all the stuff that was on it. So, I had to wait until I got home and full discretion here...I had to eat it with a fork. I tried eating like a normal hotdog, but it was just too messy. The hotdog had a nice snap to it and tasted well with everything together. The bun couldn't hold up to all the toppings from the chili and cheese, and just made a soggy spectacle. That's why I picked up a fork. It was pure guilty pleasure, and I was enjoying the moment. Is it healthy? Probably not. Even the "cheese" sprinkled on top and melted together under the heat of the chili looked suspicious. But once in a while, eating a bit of nostalgia is worth taking a chance and it'll take you on a journey to the past. Caspers was started by an Armenian family in Chicago then moved to the Bay Area. It was established in 1934 and have expanded to 7 locations, all in the East Bay. This location in Richmond, one in Dublin, two in Hayward, one in Oakland, one in Pleasant Hill and last one in Walnut Creek. It is run by the founders' grandchildren consisting of these seven restaurants, wholesales and online sales. Funny how an orange-colored structure will make me do. read more

Casper's is what you could kinda call a local legend. This location has been here since forever, something to be said for longevity. Visiting here is always interesting. They charge just enough for their hotdogs that they manage to stay in business despite never being crowded, just populated. Even more interesting is that this Casper's isn't located in the exotic part of town, but the staff always look so unassuming and low-key. No tons of cameras, bars on windows, big burly security guards. To me that says that this Casper's is valued and appreciated, no one bothers these kind people. And the hotdogs - yummy, enjoyable and each one is made exactly how you ask. So pop on into Casper's. Get some tasty food and keep this landmark around indefinitely. read more

There is a skinny lady with glasses and brown short hair working here who just gave me the most horrible customer service i have ever experienced in my life. I don't usually write reviews but felt that it was only right considering she treated me so poorly and i ended up canceling my entire order and demanding my money back. I do not recommend this location to anyone. She should definitely be terminated due to her lack of customer service skills and her inability to do her job. I grew up going to Caspers in Richmond (and sometimes the Albany store) whenever we visited my grandparents who were first generation Caspers customers of the original depression era store in Oakland. I used to love sitting at the counter and ordering a dog with my grandfather... something we did together right up to the last week of his life. Now, I sit at the counter and order dogs with my grandson (and granddaughter) who represent a fifth generation of loyal Caspers customers. Still the best dogs on the planet! read more

Caspers brings back those warm memories of childhood. Nothing has changed in my 40+ years of going here, and I hope it never will. From the warmth of the lovely older ladies making my dogs, to the perfect retro design and ambiance, to the snap of the wiener and deliciously soft bun. This Richmond location is the closest to my current location in Santa Rosa. I grew up down the street from the one in Dublin. I have been to the Hayward location also. I go out of my way to snag one of their great hotdogs anytime I am near one. I have even made trips just for the food. It is worth the drive. If you live close to a location, consider yourself lucky. This place is truly a classic Bay Area gem and should be considered historical and never allowed to close. read more

It was late afternoon and a chili/cheese dog sounded good. I saw the Yelp reviews and decided to give Casper's a try. I am glad I did. I ordered the Combo #1. A hot dog, drinks and a bag of chips. Then the fun started. I said I would like to add chili and cheese. She asked me if that was all or would I like "the works"? "The Works!" I said. I saw mustard, relish, chopped tomatoes, chili and cheese all piled onto my dog. The favors worked perfectly together and the bun was perfectly steamed.
