The negative reviews don't really make sense. I am Persian and have eaten at many Persian restaurants in Tehran, Hamburg - Germany, Arizona, SF, LA, and OC. No Persian place in the US is perfect or as great as you would experience in Iran, but Caspian is pretty darn amazing. First, the meat quality is excellent. I had the lamb, probably the best lamb I've had in years. It didn't have any bad smell or after taste that you usually get from lamb. It's always a risk ordering it, and but I gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised. We also had the barg and koobideh, which were equally amazing and tasted home made. Another things that is great is the live entertainment. It's fun to eat, listen to good music and watch people dance. Much more fun then just eating, chatting about the weather, and then going home. Great customer service, as soon as you walk in the all welcome you with a great smile, they always check on you to make sure you don't need anything, we sat outside and it was beautiful we enjoyed the sun with a nice breeze and the decor was very pretty, the food they had a buffet for Father's Day everything tasted good but the beef kabob pieces were chewy not tender but the taste was good, very clean and delicious we met the owner such a nice humble guy. I grew up going to Caspian in Irvine and I love the new location and renovation. It is more modern and cleaned up. The menu has smaller portions which is honestly better. I remember getting so much rice before and it was too much. I would come back again. read more

As an Iranian- American living in OC for over fo years, the Caspian restaurant in Irvine was always a favorite to treat friends with quality Persian food. I was happy to find out that the restaurant has re-located to the Lake Forest area and a bit closer. I was so looking forward to taking my out of town guests for a tasty Persian meal to a nice restaurant with a pleasant ambiance with some fun Saturday night live entertainment...BUT the experience couldn't have been worse! To start we had to wait for over 10 minutes before the hostess would even acknowledge us, or another party ahead of us, also with reservation, as she was busy fielding a phone call regarding some catering event, and no other employee stepped in to assist! The seating arrangement was anything but relaxing, hardly any space between tables and it felt more crowded than an over-booked domestic flight! The food was well prepared, but the menu was limited and the servers seemed overwhelmed managing their tables. Overall, the management needs to make some serious improvement, if they want to keep their former reputation the same! read more

Updated review - February 1 2024. This is a review of Caspian's new location of Portola Parkway in Foothill Ranch / Lake Forest. 3 stars. Smaller, but more upscale facilities with a modern design in an upscale location. BF and I used to frequent the old location in Irvine off the 5 Freeway. - This new location has a more eclectic and more limited menu. - This new location has higher prices (well, everything is more expensive now after COVID lockdowns) Ordered Chicken Koobideh (2 skewers) and a Diet Coke. - Total came to $30.17 ($24 + tax for koobideh, $4 for the Diet Coke + tax) This makes it not very competitive with other Lake Forest and Aliso Viejo Persian Food locations. Two skewers of chicken koobideh at M & J Care are only $19 - Portions were noticeably smaller. 14 oz of ground chicken meat. Formed pieces of ground chicken were smaller and thinner than other Persian restaurants, and smaller and thinner than they were at the old Caspian restaurant - Taste was good, but I had to ask for sumac spice. Very little sumac was on the chicken. - roasted tomato was replaced by five cherub tomatoes about the size of small chili peppers plus one jalapeño pepper. - Saffroned rice was good, but was pre-formed in the shape of a bowl and turned upside-down on the plate. Not as appetizing to see it pre-formed in that condition but it still tasted okay. - Lavash, which used to be provided rather generously at the old Caspian location was also very different: Only one, thin long strip of very paper thin lavash was provided, hidden almost completely underneath the meat. Whether a kebab comes with Naan, Lavash, pita bread, etc. I prefer to see more of it. Overall I would say thumbs down disappointment. Parking is good because it is in the same large parking lot as TARGET, and located right next to the Raising Cane's chicken place. Food is not quite up to what Caspian in Irvine used to be. Less traditional. More modernized. More expensive. Not competitively priced as other nearby places. Service was good. The food was more expensive and small. M Cafe & Grill on Lake Forest Drive has better value, equally good food. Kebab Express on El Toro Road has better value, larger portions and equally tasty food. Hatam Restaurant on Jeronimo is as good as all the others There are many others in the area and in Aliso Viejo. read more

The food portions are very small....We tried to get a refill on our teas and we were told there are no refills, you have to buy a new one!!!! Persians love their tea, it is a bad decision to charge per cup. Very disappointed, would not go back. Also, we asked for herbs and cheese platter and the waitress did not know what we were talking about. We were not served with sumac for our sultani meal. My husband and I just discovered this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was! The food, the service, and the ambiance were all excellent. We started with an appetizer with hummus, baba ghanoush, and a parsley and cucumber salad that I can't remember the name of. The hummus was the best I ever had! The peta was hot and all the ingredients tasted fresh. For the meal we split the Beef Kobideh Kebabs. The Kebabs were juicy and delicious. It came with a sauce that was slightly sweet, and complimented the meat well. There was so much food that we took leftovers home for both the appetizer and entree. Our server was Brenda. She was friendly and knowledgeable, kept our glasses filled and brought us more peta rapidly. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is an excellent place for lunch, dinner, date night and more. It is a bit pricier, about $20-$30 on average per entree , but it is worth it. The portions are large enough to split, making the price very reasonable. read more

We were on vacation and really wanted to drop by here to try the food. Online and so it says the restaurant is open , upon arrival we were told an event is being taken place and that " all spots have been taken" while the outside patio clearly had space. If the restaurant is holding an event for someone who has reserved the whole place, it should be said online that they can't take customers for the next few hours. We had been to the original Caspian in Irvine several times, and we thought maybe the new location would be good. I've even personally met Laila Forouhan, whose husband owned the original, in Sweden while hosting at my family's restaurant. Apparently they have sold it to new owners. My older Persian family went there recently to have a reunion, and politely asked three times to get the volume of the blasting music lowered as we could not hear ourselves speak or think. 1st time, they said they couldn't lower it. 2nd time, they said they they would, and didn't. 3rd time, the man asked another in a huff to lower the volume. Finally, we could actually hear each other. When we were leaving the restaurant, a man (one of the owners) told us to "Get out!" and waved us off angrily. For asking to lower the music! One of my family members replied, saying "we're paying customers, how rude of you to be like this" and the man followed us out of the restaurant shouting, telling us "Never speak to us again like that! I never want to see any of your faces here again! Any of you!" in Farsi. Very appalled that they think that was acceptable. I have not had any similar experience anywhere in Orange County. There was not even a facade of propriety. I know how a restaurant should be run and kept, and how customer service should work, and this was absolutely unacceptable. Aside from that, the food was passable, but this disgusting encounter ensures we'll never visit again, as per his wishes. read more

Oh Caspian... what's become of you? This place is a far cry from their previous location. It's as if Olive Garden, a mid Persian restaurant , and a cabaret had a baby. Sprinkle in some Irvine Company ambience and you have Caspian. Seems as if you have an identity crisis since moving 5-6 miles away. Adding 3 pasta dishes doesn't make you "Mediterranean". Also what part of the "Mediterranean " is a "Caspian Alfredo" found? Let's call it what it is, this is a mediocre overpriced confused Persian restaurant, with piss poor service. Came here on a Sunday night for the first time. Had reservations and were seated right away. No issues there. However it took 30 minutes for us to even get water at our table of 3, 45 minutes to realize we even have a waiter to take our order, and 1 hour 20 minutes to get our food. All the while ( similar to a prior review) a table seated AFTER us got their food , drinks and appetizers before us. We were just sitting there dumbfounded watching the table that's almost shoulder to shoulder with us eating , and the music blasting . It seemed like there was 1 waiter for the entire place running around. Do better Caspian. We had to literally get up from our table, walk to the front and ask someone to send us a waiter. No comp bread while we waited, nothing discounted either . Eventually the food came out. Ordered a Soltanj. Had worse, and have had better. Nothing to rave about . There are plenty of better Persian cuisines in the Orange County area. Don't waste your time here. Will not come back or recommend. read more

Everything here was perfect. The ambiance is lovely. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. The owners were so inviting. I had the trout and it was moist and served with plenty of rice. The word I would use is "value". You get plenty of food for the money. Everyone in our party loved their food. There's entertainment on the weekend and we will definitely be back for that.
