Shout out to our server Pouya for making last night memorable. Having out of town guests can be fun, and when they specifically requested Persian Food we called and decided on Hatam. Persians are very picky and judgy when it comes to their cuisine. Everyone is a chef and of it doesn't bring back the nostalgia of your childhood at grandmas it doesnt pass the test. I judge a place based on their koobieh. Lets be honest, if your koobieh sucks, Houston we have a problem! Tonight, I decided to order the lamb shank with baghali polo, along with a family style appetizer consisting of mast-o-khiar, hummas, kashkeh-bademjoon, salad shirazi, and a side of mausto-mousir. My cousin ordered Tahdig for the table with different toppings. Everyone at the table ordered Soltanis, Chicken Barg and other options. Lets talk about ambiance: when you enter you are greeted by ornate art, calm atmosphere and fresh flowers. Love the lighting, its soft and inviting. Pouya our server was kind and friendly. He single handedly helped manover a "game of thrones" type style between my cousin and myself trying to sneak in our credit-cards before the meal even started so it would be taken care of ahead of time. The persian bill paying struggle is real. IYKYK. Lets just say, this girl won that one against my guy cousin with the parents watching dinner and show. Hehhee. The highlight for me was the bread ,butter,onions served first. I was hungry and the bread was made in house and fresh. It was warm, soft and paired well with the onions, and butter. I ordered more throughout the meal to eat with the mausto-mousir ( shallot and yogurt dip). Hands down out of the appetizer, the tahdigh ( crispy rice), khashk bademjoon ( eggplant dip), cucumber dip, shallot with yogurt dip were the stars of the night. The beef shank with Baghali polo was top on my list. The dill/lima beans rice paired well with the lamb shank. It was tender, tasty ( didnt have a gamey taste, or smell) and that says something for a girl born here. Kids like me born here, usually dont touch lamb because of the gamey, smell . So eating it at Hatam was a great experience for me. I would order this again. Our family had a great night out in a chill environment, devoid of any triggers for me that may have caused some health issues and it was a needed break. The ADA parking and easy access is also appreciated. Overall, I would recommend Hatam. I found out from my mom, that Hatam has also been the "go to" caterer for her parties so, that says something about quality of food and meeting expectations my mom has in place.10/10 Please note doing 1/2 salad and 1/2 rice will be $3.00 extra. read more

My favorite restaurant !! This is genuinely one of the best persian restaurants that you can get in orange county, and I have been to a lot of them haha. Hatam offers the best dishes that you truly could not go wrong with any of them. Their koobideh is so incredibly juicy and flavorful, it is a staple during every visit. Their tahdig is crisp to perfection and the stew that comes with it is so flavorful that i think about it at least twice a week. The service is PHENOMENAL, just recently that waitress that was helping us inside was so kind and attentive that we were taken aback at how much care she put into her work. I truly enjoy this restaurant every time I go in-person or cater from here. Their Borani, Chicken (boned), chicken koobideh, beef koobideh are all delicious!! Hummus wasn't my favorite. The space is big, good for large families. You can even host parties there. The service is great as well. Truly enjoy this place and recommend it. read more

I've eaten in numerous Persian restaurants and I believe this one is definitely a cut above all the others. The restaurant is very nicely appointed inside, the food is excellent and the service was very attentive. In my recent visit I ordered the chicken barg and asked for half salad and half albaloo polo instead of the usual white rice. That was a $6 upcharge but was well worth it. I greatly enjoyed my dinner here and will definiitely try to make it back there once again. read more

Had a great experience at Hatam Restaurant in Mission Viejo. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, and the ambiance is warm and comfortable. Food tastes fresh and well prepared. They start you off with complimentary bread, which is a nice touch. The entrée portions are extremely generous--especially the rice. One plate easily lasted me for about three meals. One of the best Persian places in the OC. You'd find a lot of locals dine here without much of the fluff that is involved in trendier restaurants. I got the Lamb Shank and it was so tender and delicious. I really loved the herb rice that was piled on top of it. The servings here are massive! Also love that there's sumak in every table, other places tend to give you small packets of them. Lastly, the place also looks really elevated, almost fine dining, so I think this would be a good date spot. read more

Very disappointing experience during one of the most difficult times for our family after the passing of my mother. We were asked to pay a $300 cash deposit and sign a contract before being allowed to see the banquet room. We were told we could view it the next day. When we finally saw the space, we realized it was not suitable for our gathering due to the small room size, crowded parking, and buffet setup. Three days before the event, we politely asked to cancel or receive a store credit for the deposit. Anyone who loves Mediterranean food will absolutely be thrilled with this place. In an unassuming strip mall area, but a beautiful restaurant as you can see from the pictures. Service was absolutely on spot with a friendly face and a welcoming attitude. I had a combination of filet mignon and chicken kebab with an appetizer that I can't pronounce, but was absolutely phenomenal. I've been a customer here before, which is why this experience was so shocking. I drove nearly two hours and spent around $200 on food that was extremely disappointing. The rice was dry, lacked flavor, seemed to have little to no oil, and tasted stale. The overall meal did not seem fresh and was nowhere near the quality I expected. The food was bad enough, but the way my complaint was handled was even worse. When I called to discuss the issue, I was met with rudeness and disrespect. At one point, a gentleman told me he wanted to give me only about a dollar per person from the order, which felt dismissive and insulting considering the amount of money I had spent and the quality of the food I received. Instead of taking my concerns seriously, I felt like I was being brushed off. I was eventually offered only a small credit on a roughly $200 order, and the conversation ended with them hanging up on me. I've eaten here before and never expected to be treated this way. Driving two hours, spending that much money, receiving stale food, and then being treated with disrespect when trying to resolve the issue made this one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences I've had. We just found this restaurant and really liked it! We ordered the appetizer with eggplant and mint (I think it's called kashke bademjan) and it was really good with the hot pita. We also ordered the chicken koobideh and gheirmeh bademjan. Both were yummy and they were HUGE portions. Now we have leftovers. :) The prices were really good for all the food we got. First time coming to Hatam as I was searching for a nearby restaurant that is close to work. I have limited experience trying Persian cuisine and based on their reviews, it looked like a good place to try. From the moment you walk in, there is a heavy scent of aromatic spices. Indoor decor is nice and service was goodl. It took me awhile to decide what to order as they had a lot of items on their menu. I ended up ordering the kabob koobideh and felt that it was perfectly seasoned and juicy. My coworkers ordered the Trout Fish and said it was good. I didn't get to try it as I was really enjoying my koobideh kabob. Their basmati rice with saffron is fluffy and fragrant, pairs nicely with my entrée. Good generous portions and for the prices, it is quite reasonable. Overall had a good dining experince. I did notice that our server was impatient in explanining the difference in the entrees so I just chose whichever once showed up on the Yelp photos the most. Went here because it was recommended the food was good! I love Persian food! Right when we got in I saw the huge Persian carpet on the wall I know already the food is authentic! Had the chicken and beef koobideh combo. Rice of course is always good with the bread and the white sauce with cucumber. The inside is really nice looks like a fine dining resto. My absolute favorite spot to get Koobideh and cherry rice, with a butter pita with raw onion starter that is so addictive. Service is friendly but not very attentive so be aware service may be slow. Great option for a leisurely lunch with double portions of what a normal person can eat in one sitting so take the leftovers for a second delicious meal. Good value for the money! It has a banquet hall decor but very casual vibe. Highly recommend stopping by if you've never had the pleasure of their food. This wasn't the first time--I gave them another chance, and it still had the same bad smell. We even trusted them for catering, which turned out to be a mistake. When we picked up our order, those sides were missing, despite confirming them at the time of ordering. This caused some disappointment, especially since we had guests over. We reached out to the restaurant, but their response was not only unhelpful but also rude. After multiple calls, they denied that the sides were supposed to be included. It's saddens me of the lack of communication skills in this restaurant I called in about a couple days ago because the Lam had some tension in so I called in and asked for a manager and he told me to come in so he can exchange it for something else unfortunately I couldn't make it that day so he just said whenever he's there just call so the next day I went there and I asked Hey did he write my name down or anything like that so I can claim The order they couldn't find my name in the call logs and they tried calling him on his day off, but I had to wait the next day to call so I called in and he was too busy so they told me they'll call me the next day and to my surprise I thought that they would be more caring and called me back however it's probably the most typical insult after I patronize this place and recommend all my friends. We were invited for the "Ladies Night" held once a month. What a disappointment, there was a lady demanding we pay up front "cash" when we walked in, no credit cards accepted, and she wanted to be sure we knew that is was a Persian ladies event. We were kind of shocked, and felt very uncomfortable and not welcome, it was sort of prejudiced. The food was OK, nothing special, although we loved the concept of this idea, "ladies night" with a live DJ, dancing, buffet food, but after this experience, I would never go back. We had made a reservation for 10, but there were just 8 of us, instead. We were told we'd have to pay for the 2 that were no shows, since I made the reservation for 10. In the end they must have realized that there would have been no room at our small table for 10 that we were assigned for additional ladies, and the subject did not come up again. It did ruin my night just thinking about it. We were American ladies, even though 1 lady was from Kuwait and another from Lebanon. We won't be returning unfortunately, between being asked if we knew that everyone was Persian, making us pay cash the minute we entered the restaurant and being told we'd have to pay for the 2 that were no shows.
