Arrived ~6:30pm on a Saturday (9/27/25.) Greeted warmly by Hostess and seated immediately. The atmosphere seems friendly, quiet and the air smells delicious. They have a three page menu full of delicious-sounding foods, plus a separate page of weekend specials. Had to wait 10 minutes before our server arrived at the table. But he was friendly, professional and energetic once he came over. Salads were good, though I would've loved a little onion in mine. Balsamic dressing was delicious. It was a 25 minute wait from ordering until our food arrived, but I'd say it was worth the wait. My salmon was moist and deliciously seasoned the grille sauce that came with it was scrumptious. I used it to dip my thick sweet potato fries in! Yum! My tastebuds are still enjoying the flavors from my meal! My husband loved the chicken parmigiana and the raspberry iced tea. My family stopped here randomly on our way home from a vacation in Virginia on our way home to Pennsylvania. It was early on Friday afternoon. The manager could not have been nicer (maybe Neal, Nelson ... something that starts with an N ... I apologize for forgetting). He welcomed us to relax on the outdoor patio with our Golden Retriever as well as the rest of the humans. We ordered burgers, sandwiches, fries and coffee for all seven of us. The food was really delicious and the service was excellent. I wish this place was in my home town because it would definitely become my regular haunt. I have lived in the area my entire life and this is the first time I visited Cassell's. I've heard mixed reviews in the past, but like everything else, I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered a Cobb salad with chicken. When it arrived it looked decent; however, when I dug under the egg, tomato, bacon, avocado, etc. to get to the lettuce, I was extremely disappointed. The lettuce was brown and wilted and looked like it had been sitting around for quite some time. Considering it cost $16.99, I expected a better quality salad. I wish I had taken a photo to post, but I wasn't thinking about it at the time. The server seemed a bit rushed - but it was not busy at all. The seating area was a basic bar/grill area with tables and booths surrounding the bar. It was comfortable, but the food was lacking. If I do choose to return, I will try something different. If I have a better experience next time around, I will change my opinion. However at this point I have to say that I was not impressed. read more

The still conform to COVID-19 regulations and indoor seating is limited we chose the deck because we were visiting on a beautiful day! We decided on Cassell's while we were out on a road trip and it was a great spot on the way to another destination. My family was coming to town during a busy weekend in Carlisle and we decided for give Cassell's a try and we weren't disappointed! Being gluten free they accommodated two of our parties needs. My father (who is from out of town) still brings up how he had the best crab cakes of his life at Cassell's. The staff and servers couldn't be nicer and we loved the old school feeling. Whoever the cook is... tell them to find another calling. Only good for a beer. First time here was for a quick drink w/my father, didn't seem bad; however, we had not had anything from the food menu... that's where things go bad. Stopped by a few months later with family for dinner. Our children were served soured milk, and the staff looked surprised! How does one not open up a milk jug and not smell the milk, or have a 'good by' date to check things with? Next time to arrive was from the Daily Special menu. There was a bisque ordered that had a baked cheese topping. How the cook did not realize that this was putrid, smelly, old and rotting cheese, I have no idea. Not even one of the staff members questioned it! My sandwich said it comes with a pickle... ... ... there were two, TWO, slices of a pickle for a burger! Who the heck does that? All the vegetables and fruit is overpriced and comes front a can. The server was joyful to mention that the children could have cinnamon on their applesauce, yet failed to bring out any. Whoever the cook is... tell them to find another calling. If you know of a health and good inspector in need of a gig, turn them to Cassell's. I was part of a large group that went to Cassels on Sunday afternoon . as stated earlier no we didn't call ahead it was a last minute deal but when we arrived there were only two tables with customers and a few people at the bar. We were greeted by a manager who was upset we didn't call ahead and had a poor attitude. The waitress was rude and it was clear she was unhappy about serving us. We did consider leaving but she said they called in more help. Service-poor, food was overpriced and fair . We were not concerned about the amount of time it took for the food as we knew we had a group but not once did our waitress ask if we needed drink refills and everyone at my end of the table had empty glasses. This is a great place to go for dinner and drinks. Locally owned and great bartender Nolan very knowledgeable on the libations he serves. 14 beers on tap! They have great weekly specials and the regular menu is just as great. Anything from the wings to Prime Rib is great. My personal favorite is the Scrod, a very nice mild fish with a butter cream sauce. The Salmon Spoons they served on New Years Eve were outstanding. Here's the story with the varying quality of customer service and wait times for food: this place is a husband and wife team. The wife cooks/runs the entire kitchen, the husband runs everything else. As in life, when one isn't happy in a team, the other isn't happy and the team suffers. Just like the reality TV shows about failing restaurants with high-strung owners, Central PA has it's very own! It's just not famous... Food quality: very good (PS you get your Boom-boom sauce from Sheetz, don't lie), quantity was decent, however...for the price, they just don't match the quality. Everything was good. The server was very friendly. The husband (co-owner) was upfront about the kitchen being backed up, and our server apologized for the "long wait" even though our wait time wasn't out of the norm for a crowded restaurant. An example - we reserved for Thanksgiving buffet & my 94 year old mother cancelled at the last minute because she was not feeling well. One of the worst experiences I've had with service. I'm assuming it was the owners who served us and right off the bat you could tell they did not want us there. They made snide comments the entire time we were there and then when we decided to get our check their computer system went down. We spent 20 minutes waiting for them to tell us they couldn't process the check through credit and then the man told us we had to go to the sheetz up the road to use the ATM. We had a bad experience the moment we walked in the door, and opted not to stay for dinner so we can't comment on the food. The owner greeted us at the door, about 5:30 on a Saturday evening. The room was nearly empty and he offered "pick a table." So my wife pointed to a booth and he said, 'that's reserved. You can sit here or here,' pointing to two tables that looked like they'd been picked up at a yard sale. We have no explanation for the attitude that he projected, but we felt like he was saying 'here's your seats, take it or leave it.' So after a few minutes' deliberation we left. The owner didn't notice as he was watching TV when we walked by him on the way out. We followed up with a phone call right back to the restaurant explaining why we had left and how we felt insulted by the treatment. There was no apology although it was explained to us that a large party was coming any minute to claim all the booths. Which meant that not only were we seated at the yard sale tables but were about to be surrounded by a private party without fair warning or apology. Nice. And instead of offering an apology for the unwarranted attitude, the owner was condescending on the phone. Maybe you have to be a regular customer or a local to get good service there. Fortunately we found a Perkins a few miles south and had a great dining experience there. read more

Can I give no stars? This place is horrible- from the people to the cleanliness to the food! This is one of the most disgusting places I've ever been. I wonder if this place even meets health code standards. The food is revolting, the people are beyond rude (I didn't believe that it really could be as bad as the other reviewers said it could be, but it was actually worse), and the facilities are run down and gross. It's too bad the people who work at Cassells probably don't know how to use a computer, otherwise they might take their customer's (and former customers) complaints and concerns into consideration. read more

I heard their burger was good so I should have went with that as instead I found myself regretting my order. The California cob salad sounded like a great addition but their avocado topping was simply a scoop of guacamole (not really what I want on a cobb and not making for good leftovers). The wings do not compare to another area favorite that I will not name. Crab cake was meh but within the area I have had way better. Favorite part was my onion string straws.
