OVERPRICED! I used to defend Castañeda's because the Chilaquiles were cheap, however things have changed! I stopped by for a Machaca Breakfast Burrito and a regular size drink. I spent almost $17 just for myself! It's crazy how prices have shot up in the span of months. The lady running the drive-thru window is kind of sour and moody. I generally don't think people like their jobs anymore. It's quiet inside, but I tend to come here for emergencies only and opt to take the drive-thru as service isn't much better inside. We went there last night, asked the girl at the drive thru if the items I was ordering had onions. She checked with the kitchen and said it did not have onions. Got home and everything was covered in Onions. My girlfriend has a severe Onion allergy so not only had a horrible reaction but had to throw all the food away. My boyfriend has been coming here twice a week because he loves the flautas. Today, they messed up his order and gave him taquitos instead, even though the receipt clearly said flautas. We had wasted 40 minutes back and forth out of our way just to get it corrected Instead of apologizing or making the situation right for their mistake, the staff was rude. Then, when we finally got home, he took one bite and the flautas were soggy. They're usually made with shredded chicken, but today they were filled with some other meat that tasted awful. I'm not from Hemet, only come up once in a while to visit my special someone, however I stopped here to get us some burritos, the drive thru cashier jacked me for 5$, I figured it was an accident so another lady came to the window and I explained that I handed her a $20 bill and a $10 bill and she only gave me change for $25, they ended up shutting the window and having me wait 10 mins while they supposedly counted the register and didn't have any extra money, I said she probably has it in her pocket but either way have a good day and God Bless, and that's how you pick and choose your battles. We went through the drive-thru at Castaneda's Mexican Food in San Jacinto and spent $68.47 on take-out. Halfway through eating her carne asada fries, my daughter almost choked on a burned piece of melted plastic that was mixed into the food. This is a serious food safety issue. I have photos to document it. We immediately threw all the food away because we no longer felt safe eating it. I returned to the restaurant with her plate, but there was no manager available. An older woman came out, and I later found out she was actually the owner. When I asked for a full refund, she said she would give it to me but made a comment that she would be "getting fired" for refunding me without bringing back the rest of the food. As the owner, she acted like an employee with no authority instead of taking responsibility for what happened. A child almost choking on plastic in her meal is unacceptable. Lately, the food has been awful! I used to stop there often to get carne asada fries. The last 3 times I've gotten them they were so bad. The first time it happened I thought it was a one time issue. The girl that works the drive-through here is highly entitled. (the one with the giant Botox lips that kind of look like a *hole) She was rude at the drive-through and I still gave her a two dollar tip- got home and realized the order wasn't right. Paid for it and she was rude again. I was trying to explain to her that I ordered the burrito this way because I was sharing it with my son this time and that last week I came in and I got sour cream and guacamole on my burrito and it looked completely different. As a previous restaurant owner myself I like the feedback like that from my customers because everything should be made uniform every time. Every time you go someplace if you order the same thing, it should be the same every time. She did not care to hear what I was saying in fact, she walked away while I was trying to explain her, which then pissed me off and prompted me to start taking the video. She insisted there was sour cream on the burrito and I told her I'd have My Son send her a picture so she can see it for herself and she very rudely told me that she didn't need to see the picture and walked away so I started filming her because I wanted her face for Yelp. After all, the owner should know who his problem is . So then she told me to stop recording. So I stopped because it is a private restaurant (within a public space) and I can respect that, plus I already had the footage I needed of her face anyway. So now they are making my order in slow motion. Forcing me to stand there and wait. She brought it to the counter and set it down and then when I reached for the bag, she crushed the bag really fast literally slapping my hand away. I could've called the cops and had her arrested for assault. After all, they also have it on camera. She took the burrito away and told me to leave and that she was calling the police so of course I demanded a refund. Supposedly She's on the phone with "the owner "this whole time. Eventually, she gave me my refund and I left. I will never be back to this restaurant or any of their restaurants and neither will any of my family. I can't believe that an owner of an establishment would ever allow their employees to treat a paying Customer this way. I just spent 30 something dollars in their drive-through and I came back with fully willing to pay for the next order myself. All I wanted was to tell her what was wrong with it and this was the reaction I got. As I sit here in the parking lot and write this review, the owner or manager or whoever it is that they called on the phone is standing in front of my truck on a phone call, probably with the police. This Mexican restaurant has the best bean and cheese I've ever had in my life, they're very fast and very nice customer service. The meat was rotten in the burrito combo that I got. They expected me to drive 30 minutes back to their location for a refund. I would rather just give them a bad review and tell people don't order the food unless you were looking for food poisoning. You could smell how bad the meat was soon as you open the package. Casteneda, isn't horrible. The food is edible, but back when it was Santana, I'd give them a higher score- for two reasons. First, the food was cheap/ inexpensive, and their salsa bar (before the covid pandemic scare) was always awesome. We sometimes ordered something just to get salsa there. Fast forward, they changed. The food got worse, and was not as good (we ordered rolled tacos that were barely edible and the fries under cooked), and worse, in 2022, the prices are simply unreasonable for 'mediocre' Mexican food- and I don't mean "gourmet Mexican dishes from Oaxaca or Mexico City. Nope, California style Mexican Taqueria food.... Over priced for what it is. (If it was free or genuinely cheap, I wouldn't complain, and my review is much nicer than others I've read.) read more

BIG DIFFERENCE between this Castañeda's and the one on Florida! The carnitas nachos are here! The other location has old dry nachos and they leave chili pieces in their carnitas. This one shreds it perfectly and it's not all dry and oily. The only downer I would say is the price. You're looking at $17.01 for a plate of nachos. I honestly don't even know where to start this time. This wasn't my first bad experience with Castaneda's, but it will likely be my last. My order this time was just off on all fronts. Usually, I wouldn't trip over my order being incorrect if it's just an item or two but this was pretty off. I ordered through the drive through around 11pm tonight just hoping to get something quick and filling on my way back home. The only thing open consistently at this hour (at least in our town during the Covid Situation) is basically Castaneda's, Del Taco, and Denny's if I recall correctly. My exact order was a "A Congo burrito and a Tecate Chicken Quesadilla- For the Quesadilla I would like no sour cream, no guacamole, no lettuce, nothing. I just want the quesadilla by itself." The lady then literally confirmed it almost word for word back to me before placing my order. So me being as hungry as I was tonight I pull up to the window excited. I do genuinely think some items on the menu here taste good and I'm sitting in my car anxious to dig in as I receive my food from the kind lady at the window. Immediately after leaving the drive through, I grab my Congo burrito out of the bag and with the lights off I begin to dig in (in my head I'm thinking there's no way they could possibly get my order wrong they really read it back to me, I'll just eat this here so I have something in my stomach and then I'll eat the quesadilla when I get home). On my first huge bite I taste beans and cheese... According to the menu, the Congo burrito is supposed to be only rice, beans, and carne asada. There is no cheese at all in its menu description. I didn't let this deter me at first though I was way too hungry and it had been a long day so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Three huge bites in (which was only 1/4 of that big ass burrito) I realize there's no rice OR carne asada. Wasn't even mad about it because that bean and cheese burrito was pretty good to tell you all the truth. That's the saving grace as to why I can give this experience two stars instead of one. So I ate the burrito without complaint and was grateful that it was good even though I was RIGHT THERE and could've easily taken it back. I checked my receipt thinking "maybe they misunderstood me and thought I asked for a different burrito." This was unfortunately not the case as I found it says right on the receipt a "Congo Burrito" Shortly after that, I arrive home and enter the house with my quesadilla excited to finish the rest of my meal only to find that it's filled with everything that I said I didn't want in it. Guacamole, lettuce, salsa, sour cream, and etc you name it it's probably in there. Everything I literally had told the lady working the drive through that I DID NOT want and everything that she confirmed that they'd exclude was in there. The burrito swap I didn't mind at all, but my chicken quesadilla being butchered, sloppy, and the exact opposite of what was literally confirmed was pretty damn upsetting. With all this being said, I cannot and will not recommend it to anyone. I will also not be back or at least not anytime soon, but I do wish the business and all who work there the best.
