This is a very quaint and nice place to eat breakfast. I had never been here before but checked Yelp for breakfast places nearby and found this place down the road. My family and I stay in North Wildwood and we usually don't go past Rio Grande, so this was a new discovery while driving around near Villas. I liked the beach theme of this cafe and the staff was very friendly. I don't know about the rest of the menu but I had good pancakes and would go back. read more

Used to be a favorite place because we could count on it to be consistent with good food and good service but recently it seems to be struggling. Tonight I had a tossed salad made up of quite a few yellow and brown leaves, no bread basket served and a long wait for dinner even though not very busy. Others seated well after us were served similar dishes before us. No apology. Disappointing! This wasn't the first time that we've noticed the downturn. Previous trips over the past couple of months have had similar lack of attention to details. Overall, the main entrees are prepared well but something seems to be amiss. The place is cute and clean. Amazing breakfast at a great price! We got there early and had the early bird special which is 5.25 before 9:00 am and it was awesome! I substituted the sweet potato tots and paid the up charge and we walked out of there under 13.00 for a Delicious breakfast! Other than the silverware looking really dirty, the restaurant seems fairly nice. Unfortunately we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food and 45 minutes after ordering they came to tell us that they ran out of my grandfathers order. That wouldn't have been an issue if they had told us that a good 40 minutes beforehand. Finally got our food less than 30 minutes before they close and they offered us a dessert on them and didn't charge us for my grandfathers meal, which was nice of them. read more

I had to ask if there were specials... my daughter had water dripping on her arm from the ceiling vent and I feel it took way to long for the food to be brought out to us.... not to mention we weren't crazy about anything we had. They're bad and that should make them feel bad. I ordered breakfast for take out at 9:45am on a Sunday in mid-August. Was told 45 minutes and given no total on the phone. Returned an hour later and attempted to call FIVE TIMES to check the status of my order. On the sixth call, the answer was "we have a bunch of stuff coming out, maybe it will be in there." Didn't ask my name or for an order number, nothing. Did you expect I was going to spend an hour waiting in your parking lot?! $55 later I got home and my two orders of bacon and one scrapple were two scrapple and one bacon. How hard is this? You're literally writing down orders as you take them! $10 per plate and you can't get it correct? The prices on their menus need to be updated as well, there's a $.75 variance on some items. Guys, if you can't get take out right in the heart of summer for $50 in a seasonal town, move on. The food IS pretty tasty honestly but at the price you're paying it would say more if the food wasn't good. It would have been nice if that price included half-way decent customer service or accurate orders though. read more

I stopped in here recently while down the shore visiting my wife's parents. This is certainly a breakfast and lunch joint. There isn't a ton of fanfare and they aren't pushing the bounds of cuisine. What they are doing it turning out solid breakfast and lunch staples for reasonable prices. My time at Castaway was spent at the breakfast counter which is all of 4 seats large. My waitress mostly worked behind that counter refilling my coffee and filling kitchen orders as they came out. The decor inside is simple. White tables and chairs and a very cool large plank wood floor. I went with the crab omelette and it did not disappoint. Large pieces of crab meat mixed with smaller pieces throughout. The omelette was the american style (tri-fold, flat). The potatoes along with it were also very tasty. Red bliss if my memory serves correctly. The price was reasonable and the experience was positive. I can see myself coming back here when I'm in the area. read more

Excellent diner food & fresh cut fries! Huge portions & home cooking. The bagel with lox was a slab of cream cheese, a perfectly toasted bagel, and probably a pound of smoked salmon. The burgers are giant and delicious, the pancakes are great... Really can't go wrong! They also sell big bags of fresh baked cookies for $4 (which I didn't try but they look delicious) everything is really well priced too! My new go to villas spot :) read more

We went here for breakfast thinking it was going to be just a normal every day breakfast but I have to say this place was perfect. My breakfast was extra large more than two people could eat but I have to tell you the toast was tender and toasted just right I had potatoes with the fried onions potatoes were moist fried onions were perfect sausage came with it also which was perfect flavor and cooked perfect bacon was on the money and three large pancakes that must've weighed about 2 1/2 pounds. I would highly recommend this place the food was excellent I can't emphasize that enough the staff was very attentive. I will be heading back here every morning for breakfast this place is a must have read more

Excellent breakfasts! Drove by Castaway a million times and often wondered what it was like. After reading a few reviews we decided to check it out for breakfast. It's great! Got the daily special of 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 sausage and hash browns. Also tried the eggs benidict and that was great. The coffee was great and so was the service. I travel all over South Jersey for work and I'm always looking for a good lunch spot. I saw five star is here and gave it a try. I've been there twice now. The first visit I order the crabcake sandwich with hand cut french fries. The french fries are limp and to me that's the biggest dealbreaker as they have to be crispy. The crabcake was huge which earns all three of the stars. The problem is the consistency was just too mushy and if you try to pick it up and eat it with the bun it will ooze over your thumbs. But it was tasty and it was a good crabcake I just got rid of the bun. I decided to try the place one more time because I was starving and asked for the hand cut fries to be crispy alongside a chicken cheesesteak hoagie. I received a regular cheesesteak hoagie and the same hand cut fries not the least bit crispy piled almost to the ceiling. The cheesesteak was average at best and the bread left me wishing I was back in Atlantic County. The waitresses were nice and sweet but I can't say I'll go back here again and I want to save fellow yelpers from having the same bad experience. Really nice people I feel bad but they have plenty of regulars that like huge portions of average food. read more

We went for dinner on Thursday night, party of 6. The restaurant was I'd say half full. It took almost 50 minutes to get our main courses, and 2 of the orders were incorrect. Later, when I walked to the restroom, I saw a board with specials which were never mentioned to us by the waiter. Food was I'd say okay and the wait staff was pleasant. To be honest this doesn't even deserve one star. One of the worst meals I've had. The food was ice cold, the turkey was dry, stuffing was soggy, and the mashed potatoes were just plain out horrible. All the food was fresh and homemade, everything made to order. I was surprised that it was rather empty for dinner most likely because they're known for breakfast and lunch, being open for dinner might be a new thing for the castaway cafe but the chef knows how to impress! Everything we had was well done and service was really great and friendly. I had the mushroom and onion burger with hand cut fries, the fries were hot light and crispy not greasy and the burger was very fresh with relatively lean meat, the mushroom and onions topping was cooked perfectly, sautéed just enough to be cooked but still had a fresh texture. I love the food, best cheese steaks ever, but the breakfast hashbrowns have too much garlic for early in the day. For a local cafe, this place was just about perfect. The weather was cold so the outdoor sites were closed, but I'll bet this is great in warm weather. Very homey but beachy atmosphere. We stopped by for a late lunch. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We had the turkey burger ( a bit like turkey meatloaf) and the BLT Club (good mix of ingredients). Spent a week in Cape May and Ocean City, New Jersey. All our breakfast were very good but the dinners (Pubs, Up-scale restaurants) were mediocre. Castaway was definitely a pleasant exception. Relatively small; however, the blue and white decor gives the impression of openness. Most of the diners seemed to be "locals" making for very comfortable interaction with the staff. Menu is extensive and prices are fair. The food: Broiled Seafood Platter was a standout - especially the Shrimp. Scallops compared favorably with one of the well-known Seafood restaurant in Cape May. read more
