After reading numerous reviews we decided to give Castaways a shot! The restaurant was small and cozy. The decor was on point! The servers were friendly and we were able to sit at the bar on a busy Saturday night. Unfortunately everything else was disappointing. My husband and I ordered drinks- I ordered the Mai Tai and he ordered the Hurricane. The drinks were so incredibly sweet and WAY TOO STRONG! I was unable to drink more than half of mine and I felt completely tipsy. I can't imagine how much alcohol was poured into our drinks. We observed the bar tender using powdered sugar to sweeten the drinks- my husband got a mouthful in the bottom of his drink. I overheard the bar tender saying that the powered sugar was the chefs preference. We would have loved to try other drinks but had to stop at one. The food took over 30 minutes- understandable for a busy night. I ordered the Jamaican jerk chicken and my husband ordered the wagyu beef with Dungeness crab on top. My chicken was ok- a little overdone for my taste and the sauce was more spicy than I preferred but had good flavor. The rice and mango salsa were awesome! The Wagyu beef was tough, but the sauce and crab were great! We didn't end up ordering dessert. I doubt we would dine here again especially considering how expensive it ended up being. read more

Just returned from our semi-annual trip to Cannon Beach and had our anniversary dinner here. From the moment we entered we liked it, it's a bit small, but we liked that about it. We didn't get the bartender, hostess, etc. name, but others have stated it as Megan, she was fabulous. Like others she sure has her hands full wearing a few hats at once. She was progressively busier as the evening went on and she handled it exceptionally well and with a smile and a great attitude, many kudos to her. We both ordered the rum punch, with the fresh, squeezed juices it was delightful. My DH had the pork chop (can't remember the exact menu working of it), it was perfectly cooked, with pineapple rice and veggies, so much flavor, wonderful. I had one of the specials that evening the coconut prawns, with pasta and fabulously fresh vegetables with the best sauce infusued through them. I also had another rum drink (oops can't remember the name of it either), but it was a very well made drink also. We loved the food and will make another stop here next time we visit. A very welcome addition to CB. Didn't have any apps or desssert cause we were afraid it may spoil our appetite for dinner, but those are definately on the list for next time. Oh and it was a nice touch having the owner come out and asked us how our meal was, very friendly, nice guy! read more

We were vacationing in Cannon Beach this weekend, and we ate there TWICE--once just the two of us, and then again with three foodie friends. The Creole Lasagna is unbelievable as is the curried shrimp. The chef is a sauce genius. Even the sautéed veggies side dish on some of the dishes were perfect. Good choice of cocktails. The staff is energetic, friendly, and efficient. Highly recommend this tiny restaurant. It's a new favorite in our favorite beach town. You will have to wait in line, but it's worth it! read more

Delish!!! Came in with three kids under 8 and server (I think she was the other chef/owner) didn't bat an eye. Gave us her recommendations and we got an entree, three apps and a salad. I got a cocktail too, the Attitude Adjustment and it was great, not too sweet but fresh tasting with the strawberry purée. Our jerk chicken was tender and rice was amazing with mango in it. We got the Korean drumstick appetizer which was the kids favorite, the Texas egg rolls which were good but our least favorite, and the crab fritters which were crispy and yummy. I also got the salad with greens and the jerk vinaigrette and that was soooo good!!! All around a fabulous meal and all our plates were empty. YUM! Even though they ran out of the dish I really wanted to try, they tried hard to create something similar for me. We ended up having the mac and cheese (get it, you won't be sorry!) and the Wagyu beef filet-cut sirloin. Veggies and the demi glaze over the meat were a little over-salted but that's my only complaint. Both were delicious and I'd happily return to this establishment! read more

This is definitely one of the best places in Cannon Beach to eat in a town that really doesn't have a lot of very good restaurants. The jerk chicken is great if you like it a bit spicy but not so hot the flavor is gone. My wife enjoyed the coconut prawns and the tropical drinks. No kids menu and mostly adult crowd but my kids enjoyed their seafood chowder and salads. We had a tuna salad and coconut shrimp curry both of which were solid good but not great. This place ROCKS. The Ahi Tuna was perfectly prepared. The coconut shrimp were extremely flavorful and beautifully garnished. The service was impeccable. The cocktails were creative and delicious. Even with a bit of a wait (45 minutes standing outside in the cold), we loved the place! I had the jambalaya and my wife had BlackBerry chipotle baby back ribs. So good! I sat at the tiki bar and started with a rum punch. Yum! I saw a hurricane being made and if I wasn't driving I would've liked one of those too. This bar makes their version of a Dark and Stormy sans ginger beer. Having lived in Bermuda, I'm not sure about that but more than willing to give it a try :-) i had the bacon and pork chop marsala with cheesy garlic mashed potatoes and an interesting mix of steamed veg. One reviewer here said this place had the best pork chop they had ever tasted, so that's what drew me. Plus the high rating. I ordered the pork masala with bacon and blue cheese. OMG!!!!! It not only was the best pork chop I've ever had, but the entire meal rated as among the top restaurant meals I've ever had, and I've been to some nice restaurants throughout the entire country. The pork chop was so tender (like fillet mignon), and the vegetables (zucchini, red onions and French green beans) were cooked just perfectly so they had a fresh crispness to them but not raw tasting. I could order a whole plate of just the vegetables. The garlic cream potatoes were pure comfort food. As I was ready to leave, a foursome at the table beside me had their food arrive, and those meals looked delicious too, and the jambalaya was piled-high with large shrimp. I plan to go there again tomorrow and try another dish. The service was very good -- three different servers checked on me off and on to make sure things were OK. read more

My husband and I ate here tonight, and loved it! He had the sirloin and I had the chicken wrapped in puff pastry with a bunch of goodness! This is our 4th visit here and it stays just as fun, atmospheric and delicious. Full bar with a good bartender tending toward Tiki fruity drinks, but other things on request. Last night we both got the jerk chicken, which was NOT OVERCOOKED- just right. The mango salsa was a great flavor combination with the chicken and side of extra jerk sauce. I told the waiter that if I had unlimited access to the jerk sauce and a spoon I would injure myself. Wonderful meal. In the past we have had prawns, chicken curry and jambalya. All good. I was pretty skeptical about this place, I mean a tiki bar? Seriously? Luckily the tiki-ness of it is tastefully done so you don't feel like you're walking into the luau section of party city. The place is small, and it was busy, but we only had to wait about ten minutes for a table. Plenty of specialty island style cocktail specials to choose from; I went with the dark and stormy...because it had been raining sideways all day. It was delicious and strong. For dinner my fiancé decided on the Cajun Mac n Cheese. In my head I was picturing a greasey pile of gut-ache but what he got was a really nice looking dish. It was just spicy enough, the sauce was smooth and full of well balanced Cajun flavor, and there was plenty of andouille, chicken, and crisp veggies. It was a perfect sized portion as well. I opted for the Jamaican Jerk chicken. It was a grilled jerk breast, a side of tropical rice (had pineapple in it), a mix of sautéed veggies, and mango salsa. The jerk was the perfect spicy and was well balanced by the sweetness of the salsa and rice. The real winner were the veggies though. So often sides like that are overlooked but they were all perfect cooked and still crisp, and SEASONED! I was really impressed with my entire meal, and I went in with very low expectations. The only downside was that my chicken was noticeably undercooked, but they quickly fixed that. Honestly if the food had been mediocre I probably would have been pissed about it; but all I could think about was how badly I wanted to devour all of it. read more

My husband and I split the Tropical Ahi Tuna salad which was very well balanced and the tuna was very fresh. I got the Caribbean Curried Prawns which they let you choose the spice level 1-4, I chose spice level 4 and it had a very nice amount of spice to it. My husband ordered the Wagyu Beef topped with fresh crab, it was so good! The crab was fresh and generous and the beef was very tender. Both dishes were delicious. Unfortunately, we were giving our livers a break from any stiff drinks but man did the cocktails look delish! It did seem they were able to accommodate tables for two much quicker than larger parties, just for FYI. read more

Visited Castaways yesterday. I ordered the Ahi Sandwich and my wife had a deep fried stuffed roll (don't remember the name of the dish). The sandwich looked great but I didn't care for the sweetness of the sauce - tasted like sweet relish. The roll was good but my wife was not expecting it to be a deep fried dish. The mixed drink was the highlight of the meal for sure. Very tasty. One note: The clam chowder isn't the traditional New England style - quite good, but not as thick and creamy. read more
