She quickly cleaned the table and returned with menus. The restaurant appeared understaffed, but my server's overwhelming competency allowed for each guest to receive excellent and prompt service. Simply put, I am completely overwhelmed by the quality of cuisine. I would add more dill, large grain kosher salt, lemon to the cucumber/asparagus salad. The quiche is the best thing I've tasted lately. The texture of the egg was custardy and springy. The warm buttery crust played between crispy and smooth and the quiche was adorned with pork which salted the dish just right. The remoulade zinged with citrusy coriander and piqued with chili flake. WOW! What a jewel to find in a college town. We wanted something special for our last dinner before saying goodbye to our freshman at OSU. The food was delicious. We started with the Melon appetizer, which we inhaled before my wife decided on a last minute pic as I was pouring a fabulous Willamette Pinot. My wife and daughter had the Filet that was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I had the shrimp and grits which was just amazing. We topped it off with the best peach cobbler we have ever had. I normally don't write a negative review of a restaurant I've only tried a couple of times, but I was shocked at the disparity between my first two experiences there. I have to question whether this very popular restaurant is as consistent as you would expect from its reputation. On my first visit, I got an order of gumbo that was over-the-top perfect. Lots of goodies, fabulous roux and just the right ratio of rice to the rest of the dish. Tonight I stopped by and got an order to go. The staff was great as usual and I was really looking forward to repeating the experience I had the first time. Unfortunately, when I got home and dished it up, I found it was mostly rice. There was so much that the roux was wasted, its flavor so attenuated by the bland rice that you could barely taste it. After eating the few chunks of meat from what I had on my plate, I looked at what was left in the other half of the container and realized that there was no meat or seafood in that part at all! There were only a few bits of okra, for that matter. The other meals I saw and/or tasted on the first visit seemed very good, so I guess I'll give it another shot but if they can't do a much better job when I order gumbo again, I'll find a new place to eat when I go to Corvallis. We came here on a whim while walking through downtown Corvallis. We were hungry and decided to look for restaurants on Yelp. This place was one of the ones that came up on the top of the list with great reviews so we decixed to give it a try. We were not disappointed! The ambiance is very relaxing. It has a woodsy industrial vibe to the place. It was a Saturday evening when we walked in the restaurant but we had gotten lucky, we were able to get a table immediately. The place was full and they had numerous reservations. The staff is amazingly polite, friendly, and very attentive. That alone makes the experience so much better. Hence, the 5 stars. We were given a menu immediately and given water. Our water never went empty. We had the Promme Frites, which were matchstick french fries. I highly recommend paying extra to top it with the truffle oil... so delicious!! Their house ketchup is amazing! My fiance who doesn't like ketchup finished it all up! I had a Cabernet and my Fiance had a beer. They served my Cabernet in a proper Reidell Cabernet glass. The main courses here runs about $25. Coming from the Seattle area, that isn't too bad especially for a Filet Mignon dinner, which my Fiance had. He had his steak cooked medium and it was cooked to perfection. The flavors were on point. I had the Coq au Vin (Chicken with Wine). That too was quite delicious! The chicken was tender without being mushy and the same goes for the vegetables. Our waitress came to check up on us every so often, which was nice. We never felt rushed. We hung out a bit after finishing our meal to drink alcohol. As a side note, the women's restroom was very clean. This place gets 5 stars! We had an excellent experience here from the service to the dinner and loved the ambiance. The Seafood Gumbo I had with crab, shrimp, and scallops was delicious. All cooked perfectly. Some of the best shrimp I've had outside the gulf coast. Best scallops. Reasonably priced drinks and cocktails. Great place for special occasions. Their truffle fries are as good as you can get, and served with house ketchup, spicy mustard, and garlic aioli. Visited Castor for my birthday back in February. We chose it because of the high ratings and what sounded like a good atmosphere. The service was a bit slow, and when we asked about some of the items, the waitress said they didn't serve them on that day (maybe put it on the menu, as the table next to us also asked about it). That was fine and we placed our orders. I had the filet mignon and it was perfectly average. My fiancè had the seafood gumbo, which doesn't taste like any Southern gumbo I've had and was also pretty average for what it was (below average for "traditional" tasting gumbo). We shared the hush puppies and they were pretty bland. Overall the prices are too high for the quality of food and service. We have found a lot of more affordable locally sourced restaurants with better food and service. Unfortunately, we will not be back. read more

My favorite place! If only it was in the city I lived in! I love their Dirty gin . Their olives are to die for! I love going there during happy hour as the martinis are a reasonable $6 and the food menu has lovely bites. Their truffle fries are really good, and really big! We enjoyed our group dinner. Some of the highlights or lowlights. Cocktail: recommended Chicago sour, bartender blend. The strawberry lemonade with sour and needed some sweetness. Apps: Most our group apps were great, steak tar tar, melted in your mouth. We couldn't get a enough of the ricotta gnocchi, and we had two orders. The Gigandas beans had good flavors. But the Gumbo Fries was lacking flavor. Crab Louie salad was lacking the crab for having crab in its name. Mains : Shrimp and grits is a must try but skip the gumbo. I love going here! Pretty good beer selection and they make great cocktail drinks as well. I'm in to the view and atmosphere and there's plenty here.
