    Salmon breakfast
    Pete B.

Worth the wait! This was the second time we had breakfast at Castro's, and it reminded me of how great their coffee and food is. We had the traditional Cuban breakfast and the Salmon plate, both well made. If both parties like Salmon, the Salmon will easily feed two people. You get 4 full rolls of Smoked Salmon filet, and bread and fixings to make an amazing breakfast. The Cuban was great as well, but more of a 1-person Enterprise. Overall, great top-quality food and experience on the strip.

Looking for a break from hotel breakfast led me to Castro's Waikiki, and I'm glad it did. This small Cuban restaurant was a delicious change of pace and incredibly convenient to my hotel. The breakfast was fantastic, with flavors that felt fresh, comforting, and a little different from the usual Waikiki morning fare. The service was friendly and welcoming, though definitely operating on island time, so this is probably not the place to visit if you're rushing to rope drop. Fortunately, the food was well worth slowing down for. Everything I tried was phenomenal, and I left already thinking about what I want to order on my next visit. This is exactly the kind of local spot I hope to find when traveling.

A small eatery with BIG flavor! I was so impressed by the food; 10/10 would dine here again. The menu is not very expansive but don't let that fool you. Portions were perfect and I can't complement the flavors enough. Service was friendly as well. Please go try this spot!

Big big fan! I need a quick breakfast, and castors delivered. Along with the breakfast sandwich the fruit was fresh and my favorite part

Recommend sitting at one of the tables under an umbrella. There's trees, and the uncovered tables come with risk of bird poop (a fresh one landed on my hat). Prices rang up higher than what was displayed on menu -- when I asked, that's when they said there's a surcharge when using cards. So, pay cash and save. French toast: 5/5!! Out of this world. One of the best I've had. Crispy edges, fluffy innards, delightful amount and assortment of fruit (blueberries, Asian pear, yellow kiwi, citrus, banana, pineapple, watermelon, and some sort of grape I haven't seen before), all swimming in a delectable rum sauce. Recommend sharing, it's HUGE. Portuguese sausage (side item): 5/5. It's only 1 sausage, but it's delish and comes with a few pickled veggies. Perfect counterpoint to the French toast and rounded out breakfast. cortadito: 5/5. So smooth and rich, best coffee this trip. Also love that it's right next to Vavin -- Vavin's pastry game is right up there with Kona (the infamous, hours-long line in International Marketplace). An entree & coffee from castro's and a croissant from Vavin...perfect shared breakfast for 2.

This place is so great I came back twice on vacation. Let ambiance and setting are great. Very vibrant and friendly staff. The food is prepared fresh and tasty. We had the French toast and it wasn't overly sweet but so balanced and wonderful. Overall highly recommend.

A hidden gem. Friendly staff. Delicious food. Quaint restaurant with limited seating but well worth the wait. Must try the coffee!

I didn't think one of my favorite breakfasts of all time would be Cuban food, especially in Honolulu. I shared this recommendation with friends afterwards and they doubted as well. But trust me, Castro's delivers. The dishes are beautifully plated and they all came with a side of fruit. The Cuban sandwich here was the best I've ever had, better than any I've had in Miami. The crab and shrimp toast and the watermelon and beet salad were also great. This is a must-try.

If you are looking for amazing tasting coffee - great food (brunch style) Castros is the place to be. Definitely worth it. Cafe con leche- is a must if you enjoy coffee- dark enough yet it's perfectly sweatened.

Castro is a staple brunch spot for me. They close at 1 PM, and at 12:30 they only do to go. If you manage to get in there before 1 PM, I promise you will not be disappointed. It is a very unassuming place packed with culture and vibrant and authenticity. The Cubanos are on point, the yerba mate is very authentic, and you can't go wrong with any dishes on the menu. This time around, I got the breakfast brisket sandwich, which was so juicy on a local egg. The bread was perfectly crunchy, and the side, fruit salad, and pickled vegetables were great mix. The Ropa Vieja was also another grass fed brisket but a little bit leaner. Overall, the service is always very attentive and they pay attention to detail when it comes to presenting you with an upscale Cuban experience on the streets of Waikiki. Don't sleep on the spot if you're looking for something a little more diverse .

This place is amazing. If you're craving a Cuban-style breakfast in Waikiki, Castro's is a great find. Friendly staff and great coffee.

Side note, the last time I ordered the stew/rice combo, it wasn't enough for the Mr, and since there was rice at home, he ordered the stew separate. I was in a meeting, and would enjoy my food after I was done. As I stepped out of my home office, I see hubs hardly at any stew, and I asked him if he was waiting for me to eat. He said no, and told me "if you want the stew, you can have it". Oh no, I know exactly what that means, so I offered him half of my pastele plate. He said no, and he looked bummed out. I knew I would need to reheat my plate, as it sat for 20 minutes before I got to eat it. While I was reheating my plate, I took a bite of his stew. I had to stop and look at the stew and it looked different. So I took another bite. The taste was ok (not like the amazing stew in the past), but the meat had a different texture. One more bite.....that's when I realized and then asked hubs, "Is that ground pork? Is that why it's different?" And he agreed, "that's what it is! ground pork!" The flavor was a bit off too, but the meat made all the difference. My reheated #5 plate was fine, a little bit salty, but just fine, no complaints. Finished up with the pastele lumpia, which was greasy (usually is unless its fresh) and asked hubs about the bill. Well, I understand inflation is a terrible thing for small businesses and consumers, but my jaw dropped when he said it was $50. And he wasn't a happy camper about the price or the stew. -Sigh- I don't give up easily on places I've enjoyed for years, so I will be back, eventually.

First time going to el Cielo, and it did not disappoint!…read more The food was great - most of the menu appears to be tapas style appetizers, so we got a bunch as well as a paella dish. Our favorites were the paella - it was lemony, bright, and had a generous amount of meat. The empanadas were also delicious and came with a homemade chimichurri sauce. We got these butterfish fritters (can't remember their name, oops) that came with a saffron aioli. The chicken liver mousse was tasty as well. While the pan con tomate was good, we got the plain one, and should have gotten it with ham! A lot of the food is served with airy, light, crusty homemade baguettes. The wine list is nice, mostly wines from Spain! I tried the Albarino and it was delicious. It is located on Lewers street, and has some nice iron wrought gates. We opted to sit on their outdoor patio, which had a lovely fountain and vibe going. Parking is kinda tricky - there's a lot in the back of the restaurant but it was full for us, so we street parked.

A quick google search to check reviews, which didn't bring up much but a legit interview on KHON rested my nerves. I ordered the only item on their menu: a Cuban sandwich, which is ham, roast pork, swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard in a pressed sandwich. After a short wait, out came a delicious, hot bundle of goodness. Full of flavor, balanced, with a decent crunch on the bread. The meats were tender, the cheese was perfectly melted and I didn't have to fly to Miami to get it. You probably should share this or limit your brunch to just this as it's a lot of food.
