I have been going to Dr. Oeben for over 2 years. She is so sweet and gentle with my five cats. Her handling techniques are similar to LIMA (Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive) so the cats have a low stress vet visit. The clinic cats are very sweet and do not bother the patients. When two of my cats passed in a fire, Dr. Oeben and her team sent me a sympathy card with a handwritten note. What a nice gesture. Called to see if they accept walk ins. Front desk lady said they do put prefer appt. I told her about the state of my cat. Front desk lady diagnosed my cat over the phone without looking at him. I read a similar review where the staff had recommended Westbury Hospital to a customer, was told the same thing. I was told they were a small clinic, they clockout at 6, they can't handle my case. Dr. Oeben is the most caring, gentle, intuitive and perceptive veterinarian I've encountered in a long time. I recently found a small, sickly kitten on the street and had taken him to another vet clinic a number of times for several issues. I finally decided to take him to Dr. Oeben so that he would be able to see someone that sees only cats and to have some consistency in his care (instead of a different doctor every time) and she diagnosed him the same day, on our first visit, with feline leukemia. Because she only sees cats and I believe she's seen a lot of them - she seemed to know right away what the underlying problem was, and though it was heartbreaking, it was also a relief to have a definitive answer for why he wasn't improving, and I wish the other clinic had had the foresight or experience to have tested him for leukemia right away - it would have directed our care and saved us some worry. I absolutely recommend this vet. My cat has had terrible ear mites for years. We've been to multiple vets in multiple cities and states and nothing has worked. Dr. Oeben and her staff are wonderful and caring. I moved my cat down from MI she got so stressed out after a couple of moves that she stopped eating and her liver started to shut down. Dr. Oeben and her staff saw me and my cat for weeks trying to figure out how to get her to eat on her own. I was force feeding her, they would inject her with fluid once a week and we tried different meds. I told her to be up front with me and she was. We were considering having a feeding tube put in when we tried steroids and that got her eating on her own again. She sent me home with some steroid shots and a bunch of their food. She is now a happy kitty and eating like normal, she filled out a pit more than she was before we moved. I did not find her to be overpriced bit less then my last vet in MI. Because she specializes in cats she will cost more that other vets. However they gave me a ton of free food to keep my cat eating and each new patient gets a toy. My cats feel very comfortable with her and get spoiled. read more

I had a wonderful experience here. The doctor was very, very kind and took amazing care of my Maine Coon cat. He had a bad experience at Fat Cat Flats when they attempted to groom him, so I was nervous about taking him to another place. While the Cat Doctor doesn't do grooming, I wanted to get him a sedative for future grooming, as his long hair was collecting knots. He also got his annual checkup done. The assistant and doctor were both exceedingly gentle and had him being his usual playful self in no time. It's a cats-only-clinic, which is so important to help felines relax. At the end of his appointment, they let him pick out a toy and he picked a glittery purple ball that he still loves to play with. The prices were reasonable and the experience even better! read more

I made a questionable decision in walking from my somewhat nearby home for my cat's appointment, and by the time I got there my t-shirt was so soaked they gave me a free one (plus a bottle of water) to make me feel more comfortable. I have been taking my cats to Dr. Oben for a few years now. I have previously used her previous clinic and moved when she did. It's not that the other guys didn't do a great job, they did. I just really like Dr. Oben's style and her compassionate treatment of my kitties. I have a cat with chronic rhinitis and Dr. Oben worked with her for a while to try to figure out what was wrong. When it became evident that she needed more diagnostics than Dr. Oben could provide, she referred us to Gulf Coast Veterinary. That is not an inexpensive proposition, but I knew that going in. They were able to confirm it was chronic rhinitis and to rule out cancer, which was a relief. Once the determination was in, Dr. Oben has worked with me to determine a treatment path for my cat that is supportive enough for her to be comfortable without it being too aggressive. She even supported me when I told her I needed to give the cat shots rather than oral meds because the cat was not tolerating the oral medications. We gave her shots and it was like night and day. The cat doesn't even notice them. Later, we did decide to give oral meds, but Dr. Oben worked out a way to make the dosage more concentrated so I don't have to give as much to the cat. The compounding veterinary pharmacy mixed it up and the cat takes the small dose rather well. My cat is doing well and I'm happy with the treatment. I have another cat that until recently has been very healthy. He started losing weight and upon taking him to Dr. Oben, we found out he is diabetic. She has supported us very well in giving information on how best to feed him, the amount of insulin to give, and testing his blood sugar levels at home. Many vets, apparently don't work with their patient's owners on this. Testing is critical to monitor blood sugar levels as getting too low is worse than getting to high. As we are changing the cat's diet to reduce his carb intake, we have to watch the sugar levels to make sure we're not going too low. Dr. Oben is great when I call with a question or update on my cat's condition. She is more than happy to talk things over and never seems rushed. She always seems happy to see the cats and treats them so well. For maintenance visits, you can't beat the service or the prices, really. I find the Cat Doctor to be very reasonably priced when compared to other clinics. The staff members at the Cat Doctor are exceptional as well. They are compassionate cat lovers. They treat my cats like they were their own. I hate going to a place where they treat a cat as they would a dog. Cats need extra consideration as they hate leaving home and get frightened easily. Peggy at reception is a real sweetheart. So are the "house kitties" who decorate her desk. If you're lucky, you may see Stripey, their geriatric kitty doing a patrol after he gets his subcutaneous fluids. He's a cutie. Quality vet care is not inexpensive. If you are concerned about costs, please don't be embarrassed and discuss your budget with Dr. Oben and the staff early. They will be considerate of your constraints, if they are aware of them. They know not everyone is blessed with ample cash all the time. read more

Paws down the best. Things I love about this clinic: 1. CATS ONLY. I've been to some other places that only treat cats, but staff were allowed to bring their dogs there (what?!?). Dr. Oeben's office only allows cats so your cat will feel very comfortable! No barking dogs! No smell of dogs! Just quiet adorable kitties! 2. IT'S QUIET AND SMALL. All things cats like. My cats have always felt comfortable here and never shown any sign of fear. It's a peaceful quiet place your cat will love. 3. I walk in and they immediately take me to a room. No waiting. 4. Dr. Oeben is always on time. My appointments have always started on time and have been very efficient. 5. Your cat will feel special. They treat your cat like it is the cutest cat they've ever seen in their whole life. I swear, I bring my cats in and Dr. Oeben and staff are always gushing over them, as if it was the first cat they had ever seen in their life. You'd think my cats were hollywood movie stars or something. Even my overweight cat who sheds like crazy. They just love on your cats so much. All my cats, (even my "evil one" who hates most people), love the staff. 6.Toys! Dr. Oeben always gives each kitty a complimentary toy when they leave. Sort of like getting a lollipop for a kid at the doctor :) 7. Quality care. Dr. Oeben is so knowledgeable. She's gentle and kind. She is patient and understanding. Top rate quality care every time. I have been taking my cats here since 2006 and even though we have since move a little farther away, I am not planning on finding another vet. Dr. Oeben and the staff all do a wonderful job making the cats comfortable when they are there. The experience here is so much better than at a generic pet clinic - it is always in and out for checkups - no waiting 30 minutes for the vet to show up. I would recommend the cat doctor to anyone. We've been taking our cats here off and on for years. This week we found out last minute that we needed to have travel certificates for our pets to fly with us. Dr. Oeben's clinic squeezed us in last minute (day of!) and got us everything we needed for both animals. The clinic staff is really friendly and Dr. Oeben was great. It became necessary for me to put another cat to sleep after 14 years, (she was like my child, with me for half of my adult life!). Dr, Oeben did what was necessary to keep my baby (and me) comfortable while Patches was given a sedative to relax her, then the next, final, shot. She and I were comforting Patches the whole time until she passed away. I hope she felt my presence petting/kissing her the whole time. I take my fur babies in for yearly visits, vaccinations, etc. but also come in regularly to purchase cat food. Two out of my three cats require special dietary food and The Cat Doctor always has it in stock. Peggy, who usually works at the front desk, is fabulous and can answer any questions you may have. I also like that Dr. Oeben is the sole vet at the clinic. I've found at other practices where there are multiple vets it can become confusing when making appointments or maintaining consistency. Great cat vet! Very friendly, reasonable prices. My wife found a box of kittens and took up there. Not only did they check all 5 of them out for basically free, they gave us milk (still needed to be bottle feed) when we got them tested for feline leukemia etc they tested all 5 but only charged for 1 test. We took in a neighborhood stray and brought him here for a checkup/blood work and found that he was positive for feline leukemia as well as FIV. I was quite upset but Dr. Oeben was genuinely kind and comforting while still being very straightforward and realistic. She has such a wonderful, calming effect on the cats and is always willing to answer any of my questions.
