Do not entertain this place as a possibility to even look at . These apartments have gone to crap. Gas leaks , the gates don't work , the key fobs to gates don't work , landscaping not kept up , grills out of service , electric charging stations don't work . For the amount of rent you pay go somewhere else . The owners could care less , Excel property management is the the worst . read more

I am a current resident at Catalina Luxury Apartments.DO NOT MOVE HERE. Excel Property Management Services has implemented short-term vacation rentals at this property. When people are on vacation, they like to turn up, so your need for sleep is irrelevant when you have to work the next morning. They do not fix anything and instead try to blame you when things break in your unit, even though they were poorly constructed, and then make you pay for repairs. All tenants complain about hot water and the water pressure and they will send a handyman instead of a plumber to fix the issue, but it's only fixed for a short period of time. Their response to repair requests is slow and inadequate. They send notices such as California Civil Code §1954 with a three-day notice and only an eight-hour window, which is not valid--realistically, these are 24-hour notices with a one-day window. When you realize the notice is invalid, they call the police to enter your unit. If that isn't unprofessional enough, they require your presence during repairs because they will lie, claiming your drain was full of hair due to negligence, even though it was clogged with black gunk, which I can prove because a handyman left water and debris all over my floor. Read Excel Property Management Yelp page. Do not move here you will regret it. All tenants are looking to move out due to the vacation rentals. This will be the worst mistake of your life if you move here, oh they also raise your rent every year. read more

I do not recommend this apartment complex. My husband and I lived here from 2019-2024. It was a great place just before covid , however during and after covid to present day it all went down hill. The management company Superior Management & Reality Service along with their on site "live in" property managers Jessica and Ray are extremely unprofessional. This company will find any way to take short cuts, squeeze more money out of their tenants with nothing in return. If there is an ongoing issue with your unit, you must submit the request on the portal, however, many a times our request would never be addressed but show "completed" on the portal. You can not call the main office off of Whittier blvd and Santa Gertrude's, they will refuse to speak to you and defer you to using the portal. The grounds are filthy, the gym is disgusting and equipment not working.. The grounds and cleaning are done by Jessica's husband Ray , he calls his business "Ray Ray Duz it" and usually has a teenage kid with him helping. It's a complete joke. The main gate off of Whittier blvd is broke at least once a month. With cars being broken into. I've had at least 4 encounters with suspicious characters (most likely transients) walk onto the grounds and through the unit halls. We loved our little apartment ( from the inside) until we didn't. It just didn't feel safe anymore and we out grew it. read more

As a current resident since 2019 I just want to say to everyone NOT to come here. We have been a resident when it first opened and it was nice, especially through the "pandemic". When the "pandemic" ended so did all the perks and benefits to this place. No more Starbucks Bar, the gym has no towels, gym equipment doesn't work, (all 6 pieces of them), fountain, gates, etc. The walls, floors are hardly cleaned. They mop the floor once in awhile but it only spreads the dirt around. By the way it is cleaned by relatives or friends. All the work here is done by some sort of family relation not professional. The dog area.....never gets hosed or sanitized, the dog trash can hardly gets changed. Poor windows and residents that have the "fountain" and dog area views. The water pressure here is ridiculous, and it takes 10 min to get hot water. And now the management...everything above is the 100% reason for everything. They hardly do anything. They close your service escalations out, without telling you. They never respond to service requests. They have no professionalism. The gates are constantly broken, we have break ins on vehicles, random people walking the halls. Management....says.."we will look into it"....guess what? No response or solutions. I do however love the inside of our apartment. We have nice amenities but again we were the first ones inside our apartment. We are looking to move out ASAP when our lease expires. We have not moved out sooner due to the cost of everything and the fact that we had not had our rent go up since we moved in. So the cheap price "we" pay makes sense, for the cheap place we live in. Its just not right for new tenants to pay the current price for this place. read more

I lived here with my partner from Aug 2022 - Nov 2023..We've since moved out but never actually made a review, and I came across the notes I took back then of our experience. Hopefully this helps someone considering living here in the future. - All security surrounding the building is faulty. I don't know how long it's been like this since before we moved in, but we know other residents have had theft issues. It's a game of luck when 2 out of the 3 gates actually lock. We had a bike stolen from the parking garage the 2nd week we moved in because the gates were faulty. Now we know why nobody stores bikes at the bike racks. - If the security gates were working properly as intended, residents without a key fob would have no access to their own building. (They only provide 1 fob per bedroom, which means a couple residing in a 1 bed only have one fob). We had to fight for them to give us 2 fobs, because this makes absolutely no sense. - Continuing on the last point: the only way for those without a fob to enter (i.e. guests), is to use the call box at the front of the building. It calls your phone but that's all it does..there's no prompt that allows you to unlock the gate. - No overnight parking in Guest Parking. Understandable to avoid squatters, but incredibly inconvenient for temporary guests. - Lack of additional parking for permanent residents. Catalina St is the only other option for parking, which would be just fine if the Middle School across the street didn't have events most evenings, where the parents take up the street parking up to a mile down the road. I'd come home from work many days and have to park a mile away. - Their rent payment process is so frustrating. Your payment will stay pending in the portal until the very last day, when it's then deemed delinquent. According to their accountant, payments take 5-7 days to process. Which means if you pay on the 1st, you're at risk of a payment not being fully processed until it's already delinquent. The accountant just shrugged her shoulders when I brought up that flaw. Queue the late fees. - They don't allow early rent payments. There's a fee if you try to pay a day before the 1st of the month. You MUST pay on the 1st, otherwise you're at risk of the payment not processing fully until after the deadline. - Communication with anyone other than Jessica is nearly impossible. Sometimes there's questions that Jessica doesn't have answers to, and you have no way of contacting those people. - I'm not originally from CA, but the people who run this place are what I call typical LA people. Not to offend anyone, but there is a complete lack of humanness, or urgency to help with requests and questions. Just look at the Manager, Gabby Ruiz's "About" section on the Sup. Mgmt website.."not afraid of evicting!" What a badge of honor. - Idk where the sauna is that's listed as an amenity on the website and our lease, but never seen it before. Also the Starbucks coffee they have listed is nonexistent. - They want ALL communication to be thru their portal, which is incredibly frustrating. Apparently they don't receive notifications when you post on the portal, so you don't know when they'll end up seeing it. Sometimes it's easier to just call, but if you try to communicate by phone, you'll get called out by the manager, Gabby and redirected to use the portal. Pros: - Spacious apartment (all units are ADA compliant) - Pool area gets a good amount of sun 12pm-5pm in the summer - Gym is nice to have for quick workouts (gets tight when 2+ people are in there though, and the treadmill is pretty shotty) - pets are welcome - Gas stovetop is amazing - Proximity to stores and restaurants is awesome read more

We are extremely happy living at Catalina Luxury Apartments, thanks to Jessica and Ray for helping with the property viewing and a smooth move-in transition, awesome customer service and professional business awareness. The apartment is beautiful, open floor plan, stainless steel appliances, large size kitchen, granite countertops, and lots of cabinet space. We love it! On-a-side note; I had accidentally left my car window down (in the parking structure).. but thanks to our property manager Ray for surveying the area and letting me know, it's things like this that makes it a much nicer/safer place to live. read more

We moved in this March, into a 2-bedroom apartment. We were very impressed with the layout of the apartment. The ceilings are high, with enough light extending from the spacious kitchen to the living area. The French doors leading out to the porch sets this apartment apart from all others. We have a full size washer and dryer in our home which really is an important feature for me. The property managers, Ray and Jessica have been so attentive to all our needs. It's common to walk out and see Ray power-washing the walls in the parking structure and comforting that at night he will patrol the area to make sure the property is safe. I can hardly wait to enjoy the summer days with my grandchildren, knowing there is a clean swimming area and club house for entertaining. read more

Jessica and Ray (the property managers) we're so helpful and went above and beyond! They gave us a tour of the property and really walked us through the whole application process. You can tell they really care about the property and the tenants. The property was so clean and they make sure all the amenities are clean and ready for the residents to use. I'm really looking forward to living here especially knowing the property is under their care!! read more

I no longer live here. Overall I was not satisfied. Besides from what I have already mentioned, there were a few other things that I was not pleased with. 1) Aside from the air conditioner being loud in one room, it started to make a buzzing sound. It would last for about two seconds. At first it only made it about 3-4 times but then gradually went on for two-three hours. 2) The bathtub started to get clogged. As soon as I noticed it, a week later there were plumbers working on the main line outside the building. Once they were done the bathtub was unclogged. I got a lot of back wash. That happened twice. 3) The garbage disposal area started to become an unsafe place to throw the trash. I found a couple of people going through the trash. I posted a picture of the area in my first review. 4) The neighbors upstairs had two kids and they were loud every day from 7am-9pm. It didn't matter how many times management sent out emails to remind residents to keep the noise level down, it never changed. 5) I always heard sirens. Every day at least once. 6) They kept $500 of my security deposit for paint touch up. It was unfair because one of the spots they charged me for was merely painted. It was like that when I moved in. I should've have said something before. They charged me $35 for a toilet paper roll dispenser. Which in my opinion was not of high quality. One of the tiny scews kept falling off. I left it alone for a long time. My recommendation to you, if you do decide to move in, make sure you take note of how well painted the place is and if the toilet paper dispensers are secured. If you find anything broken or not working make sure to fill out the service form online so they can fix it. Otherwise, you will be charged when you leave. read more

My husband and I were looking forward to move into the property for a 2 bedroom apartment . After he filled out the application online , he got a call from the property manager , Ivonne (female manager)while he was in the process of filling out the payment information. She called to notify him that he needed to pay 2 application fees per adult. He asked her if he can apply just for himself first because I was planning on moving in the same month and she had the worst attitude saying that the application wouldn't be fulfilled if he only paid for one adult (himself) although he kept explaining how he wanted to move in alone before I did. He mentioned that when I would move in we would continue with the second application fee. After Ivonn repeated her argument of the application not being fully accepted if he only paid for himself she laughed and seemed very bothered said " ok, have a good day sir" and HUNG UP. We were in absolute shock that we couldn't get simple answers and good customer service from the PROPERTY MANAGER IVONN. A few minutes later, I called through my personal cell phone with a great attitude "Hello, Goodmorning !" :) the woman on the phone answered "hi what do you need." I then proceeded "hello , what is the name of your property manager ?" She replied "we have many." Then I asked "Are you a property manager ?" She replied "yes." So then I continued in a positive attitude " what's your name ?" She replied "Ivonn" . Then I said " awesome ! What's your last name Ivonn?" She proceeded and gave me attitude throughout the entire conversation "I don't need to give you my last name." I was very confused as to how she couldn't answer the phone professionally and give attitude to my husband and I. The second time I called her in a very positive and giddy tone and she still was very RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. I definitely don't feel comfortable calling this place given this poor customer service from a PROPERTY MANAGER !! I'm sharing this in hopes that a Professional Property Manager can do something about Ivonn's poor and rude customer service. Thank you. read more

I just saw the comment to my review and I think their response just further adds to my previous review. In my opinion, my review doesn't have any exaggerations. I merely stated the facts of what someone could expect if they were to live here and what we have experienced so far. If you are considering living here, take it however you want to. I pointed out the good and the bad, but management took this opportunity to aggressively and publicly criticize my review bit by bit. What they should have done was reach out to me directly and work with me on what they could do to help increase my rental living satisfaction based on what I wrote, privately. I would have happily left a more positive review if they had done this. Also, I was unaware of the ADA compliance requirements for the master bathroom. I'm glad I know now because my brother actually was in a terrible accident last year that left him a quadriplegic. I'm sure this feature is something he and others will appreciate. read more

Catalina Luxury Apartment - Sample of unhelpful response/conversation, they haven't responded back after my last message on 8/1/19 - Apartments Near Me - Whittier, California

Orlando is a terrible property manager. He was incredibly disrespectful to us during my time at this building. They have few amenities and I would encourage you to go down the street to another city. It is definitely worth it. You do not want to experience living with Orlando as your property manager. He is a lousy young amateur at best. Management should fire him immediately. ************************************* I am now updating this review based on Orlando's response. This review is both accurate and authentic. Orlando, you're making a fool of yourself. Obviously, Orlando, I am a tenant and you are incredibly unprofessional. You got caught. Please stop commenting on other people's posts. As I stated before, Orlando is incredibly disrespectful. He does a very poor job at acting as a low-class property manager. He should take the time that he invests browsing the web and put that back into customer service for a start. As I stated before, management should fire him immediately. ************************************* Also, Orlando, if you tamper with someone's personal information, make no mistake, you and the company will be sued. You will be walking Whittier Blvd. with a cup in hand for the rest of your life (not to mention you're already on your way). You have been warned. You are way out of your league. read more

Ever since Jessica and Ray took over ad new apartment managers the complex has really improved. Garage doors work & if not they are quick to fix then. Any maintenance issues are also quick to be resolved. Up keep of the complex is also amazing, apartments are blown and mopped weekly. read more

I am reviewing Catalina Luxury specifically around the apartment discovery and leasing process. I worked with Eric in June/July 2019 to visit the units as well as ultimately sign up for a 12-month lease. When I visited for the first time, he was warm, patient, and answered all the questions I had, telling me to reach out to him with any questions as I was apartment searching. After the visit, for weeks he answered all my questions promptly via text, never pressuring me to make a decision. When I decided to sign my lease with Catalina Luxury, another leasing agent showed me four separate available one-bedrooms, even giving me a tape measure to measure dimensions before I ultimately signed the 12-month lease. I'm excited to move into Catalina Luxury this August and I look forward to writing another 5-star review once I have lived here for 12 months. read more

Since the new management takeover of Ray & Jessica apartment needs have really improvement. Email responds are quick, any maintenance issue is quickly resolved. New management team has really improved the complex. Gym equipment has been fixed and new items have been added along with new pool side furniture. Parking could be more organized would be my only downside. Overall new management team has really changed things up from previous management owner. read more

Such a peaceful place to live at, family friendly, the pool is not as big but not a big deal for us, complex it's small so you basically get to know your neighbors, which are friendly but not Annoying, we have had some Nosey neighbors in the past , the appartment has white cabinets that close slowly, they don't slam which I love since I wake up early to cook breakfast for my husband and don't want to wake out the neighborhood or have to have the patience to close them slowly, we have our own washer and dryer yay! And a dish washer, other than that everything it's pretty basic living space read more

My boyfriend and I came to visit this apartment complex over the weekend and had such an incredible experience. Orlando was awesome and answered all our questions. In fact it was like he was reading my mind because he was so thorough with facts while on the tour I didn't really have much left to ask. The community is so beautiful and feels like a 5 diamond resort in Palm Springs. Love that they offer complimentary Starbucks coffee to the residents. It was a nice touch to sip on my coffee while on the tour. Highly recommend taking a tour here. read more

I found this place through google and it really is stunning. I took a tour this weekend to check out their one bedrooms. They have this fantastic clubroom where you can host events, meet the fellow residents or just hang out after work. The pool area is so chic with its pool furniture and bbq grill area. The one bedroom model is beautifully designed. It's great to see gas stoves instead of electric. It has its own washer/dryer in the unit. High ceilings and open floor plan make it look opulent. Exterior hallways are fun to look at with the Spanish red tile everywhere. And there's an elevator which is a must if you're looking to be on the top floor like me. Overall I liked it very much. read more

Wow! This place feels like a fancy resort. Elegant Spanish tiles throughout the complex, fountain, benches and beautiful landscaping lining the park-like walkways, complimentary Starbucks coffee, free poolside yoga classes, as well as special events in the clubhouse. Nice touches: Each unit is equipped with it's own washer/dryer, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and stove. Orlando, the Resident Manager, is very informative, helpful and efficient. A great place to live! read more

0 stars for this terrible apartment. First off, I'm order to get approved here you need to show them your entire life savings and probably still won't get approved. You need to be at least making 6 figures if you want to qualify for 1 person. But this is the management company the owners hired. They have 1 on site manager that lives here but good luck ever finding him since there's no designated office. And if you ever need anything don't bother asking the manager he doesn't know ANYTHING, he will tell you to contact the management company through telephone or email. We've gotten cars broken into because they took months to replace security gate, ac has been down for going on 3 months in the summer because they need approval from cheap owners for every single little thing and that always seems to take weeks. You can hear every little noise if you live on 1st or second floor from the people above you. And no, there's no Starbucks cafe like they promote. Management company has 5 different people you need to talk to when you have an issue and they don't seem to communicate to each other. There's a guest parking, there's been a crashed car parked there for 3 months and they still haven't towed it because the owner of the car lives here. This place is a joke, they don't maintain it as they should with all the money you waste read more

My sister and I toured this beautiful Spanish style apartment complex today. It is definitely not your typical "apartments". It had an amazing resort vibe as soon as you walk in. The tour starts in the clubroom which has a Starbucks bar! The leasing agents said it's complimentary for the residents so I was already in love. When we walk out into the community, the first thing that makes your eyes pop out is the Spanish tile flooring throughout the exterior hallways. Immediately thought of Lilly Ghalichi's pic on IG sitting in her leopard print on some Spanish tile steps. This complex is totally Instagramable. The model units are just as gorgeous inside with open floor plans. Stainless steel fridge, gas stove, dishwasher and microwave. But the best part was it comes with a washer and dryer inside the unit. Not to mention the fact that everything is brand new! Can't go wrong with a brand new building! read more

My girlfriend and I toured at Catalina and at first I was skeptical about the building because of past reviews but this building has it all. Appliances, amenities, and a quality property manager in Eric. read more

I don't move around too often, but after searching the area I came across this place. Many other places I looked at came across as mediocre or lacking in amenities, or any sort of secure feeling. Although this building had almost everything I wanted... a Jacuzzi would have been an extra plus but I guess I'll manage with a pool and fireplace, I'll be ok. I took the tour which was super easy to set up and communicate with management. Application process was thorough but easy and quick, Yes I'm paying a little more, but whats a few hundred more out of your life to be able to live around other like minded business professional in a safe and friendly environment as opposed to well, well not that. Not to mention the building itself is absolutely beautifully designed and well put together. I don't worry about my car because its in a gated lot covered with cameras, as well as everywhere else in the building. Yes I do take advantage of free coffee in the morning, close to the gym and uptown which I frequent. Orlando is always quick to respond and notify me of changes,as do I notify him when I have concerns and it is always handled promptly. Yes I do enjoy this building very much and do recommend it to other young professionals. read more
