I didn't know what to expect because I had not eaten oysters in years, I loved them. The thing is, that was a few months ago. Ever since my experience at Catch, I have tried oysters at other places and none can compare. I think it's due not only to freshness, no grit, and a nice variety, but also in part due to the mignonette. No one has a better mignonette! I really appreciate how the board shows various oysters with their origin and levels of salinity. It really helped me make decisions because I was unfamiliar with different types. Although in the end, I tried one of each anyway. I love this place and hope to find myself there on a regular basis. read more

We decided to try Catch Oyster Bar for a late lunch/early dinner this evening. We both started with a bowl of their award winning lobster clam corn chowder. It was their daily chowder offering, which on the menu is listed as market price. I wish I asked the price. I assumed it would be in line with their other chowders $5 Cup/$8 bowl. It cost $14 bowl. I think this is a fair price when ordering soup as a meal. Buas a starter, I would have ordered the cup, had I known. Regardless, it was DELICIOUS and I would definitely recommend you order it! As our main course, I ordered the shrimp po'boy and my fiancé ordered the oyster po'boy. We shared them. I wish I knew how big they were because we could have shared one. I preferred the oyster (I think mostly because it was easier to eat) my fiancé preferred the shrimp. They were served with coleslaw, a pickle, and fries (at a cost of $3 more). At $18 for a sandwich, the fries should be included. I was only able to eat half and left most of my fries on my plate (way too much food)! This dish should be offered as half and full size. It was ok. I really liked the sauce and the bun, but I wouldn't order it again. The atmosphere is nice. It's a small place. I think there were two four seater tables, three two seater bar height tables, and then bar seating. The staff was all friendly and our waitress was prompt and attentive. All and all, we enjoyed ourselves. I would go back for the soup and maybe try something new. I did feel it was a bit pricy, the reason for the 4 stars. We ordered 2 soups, 2 po'boys, and a coke (I had water) and it cost $80. Not worth it in my book! UPDATE: THEIR FOOD MADE ME SICK!!! I originally gave this place 4 stars but am downgrading it to 3 stars. The 3 stars are for the chowder and service. If I had just ordered a po'boy I would have given one star. I paid $21 (including fries) for a sandwich that made me sick, TWICE. I got sick Sunday night after eating here but couldn't be certain it was the food. After eating my leftovers yesterday, I woke up last night from a dead sleep, sick as a dog, for almost 2 hours and am now feeling totally exhausted and drained. My husband and I tried this local spot based on online reviews and were pleasantly surprised! It's a small but comfortable place for a relaxed evening out. It is clean and bright which made me want to eat there. It seems to be a popular and familiar with regulars but not overbearing or uninviting. We love oysters and seafood. We ordered several small plates from the menu so we could really get an idea of the quality of the menu. We had 4 different oysters which were ALL fresh and delicious. They were served with two condiments but others were made available on request. The shark bites were a new venture for me but they were delicious as well. I didn't know what to expect however they were small enough to taste and enjoy without being overwhelming for a first-timer. They were blackened I believe and a little spicy, which was good for me. The sauce complimented the taste and balanced the shark bites well. We had the coconut shrimp which were AWESOME! My husband and I had two rounds of these. I like the fact that the coconut flakes were not big. When the shrimp were gone so were the flakes. They were a great size which were satisfying. The calamari was good and stands up to average expectations. It wasn't chewy and was enjoyable. Lastly I ordered a lobster roll. It was soooooo good. I loved that it was not mayonnaise based which allowed me to taste the chunks of lobster, seasoning and butter. The bread was soft, toasted and buttered just right. The server was very nice and pleasant. She new the menu well and offered suggestions based on our inquiries. The bartender was engaged with those at the bar and served everyone well. The food was served up quickly and thoughtfully prepared with care. We loved the television screens showing the top games of the evening. There was plenty of chatter with everyone in the restaurant about the games, with those who wanted to talk, INCLUDING my husband. I couldn't possibly ask for a more flavorful and filling sandwich. Service was good, great oysters and clams, weak drinks and the restaurant was freezing. I was out with a group of four people, so it wasn't just me. There was an elderly couple sitting at the bar and I overheard them ask the waitress "why is it so cold? Where is the heat?" The elderly woman kept looking over her shoulder trying to figure out where the breeze was coming from. Our table had cold air blowing on us and it wasn't the fact that we were sitting by the window. The wind was coming from a vent above our heads. We should be able to sit in front of a window and still be warm. It's winter time. I don't understand why the heat isn't UP. Last Friday it was about 23 degrees outside. I went to this place the week before and it was not cozy inside this place. I'd love to come back but if it's cold again, unfortunately I'll have to retire until the weather warms up. It's not enjoyable when you attempt to go out for a nice dinner and have to sit in a cold restaurant with your coat on. read more

If I could give it a half star I would've reviewed at 3 1/2. A small seafood restaurant which has been open for about 7mths. Cool atmosphere and great service! My fiancée and I were able to snag two seats at the bar. I started with their N.E Chowder it was okay. I'm not a big fan of rosemary and rosemary flavor was very evident for me in the soup. Again the soup was okay my fiancée thought it was really good it when I had him try it. I would like to add there was plenty of clams in the soup always a plus! He had a dozen oysters they have 7 or 8 different types he tried 6 of them. He really enjoyed them! Our server who was also the bartender was very knowledgeable on the oysters and everything on the menu. We also had their char grilled Spanish octopus. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it as I prefer a charbroiled octopus. The Spanish octopus was accompanied by a salad and hand cut potato chips. This dish was delicious! The dressing was sweet but it all went well together. The hand cut chips were a great addition as well. For my entree I went for their fried fish flounder sandwich. For an additional 3 dollars you can add fries or a house side salad. It comes with crinkle chips, pickle and coleslaw. The chips unfortunately are not house made so I opted for the fries. This dish I was disappointed it. The fish was sadly mostly breadcrumb. After having the octopus salad I assumed my main course would've been even better! The tartar sauce was a little too sweet for me. That part could be easily solved by asking for it on the side. The potato bread bun so yummy! The fries yummy as well. I didn't come for bread or fries. I wanted some good flounder and if it wasn't mostly breadcrumb I think it would've been delicious. They have great happy hour deals I want to check out. Despite not having the best food experience - the service, great atmosphere and octopus salad will have me coming back and trying them out again. This is the only place I will be at on Mondays....here's why! Happy hour deals last til close! My friend and I ate and drank like royalty for a steal! We started the night with a Mermaid shot. Titos, Mary mix and an oyster, soo good!! We ordered some wine and decided to try everything available on the happy hour menu. First up was clams, oysters and shrimp. Very fresh, great quality. The mignionette was very flavorful! Then we split the fried oyster slider. This oyster slider has officially been added to my Death Row last meal list. Crab cake slider was good, the mussels came in a perfect broth with picturesque grilled bread. I don't like chowder, but my friend tasted it and said "Mmmmm." I wouldn't bother with the taco or the guac. Not their strongest. This combined with the fact that it is very very small is the reason why I deducted one star. It was worth the 30min drive out to get some oysters. They had about 7 different types to choose from along with claims. This is the 2nd place on Long Island that I'm aware of that had a selection. The oysters were fresh and kept at the right temps. Besides the oyster, which I enjoyed, my old lady ordered the clam chowder but stated it was OK. I had a spoonful and it had a bit too much rosemary for my taste. We shared the octopus salad and it was phenomenal. It was poached in a red wine sauce and the grilled. Had amazing flavor. After I had had the po boy, with half shrimp and half oysters. It was a big sandwich with three shrimp and three oysters. She had the flounder sandwich and stated it was a very thin piece of fish and lost of breading. Pretty decent place if youre into raw bar type stuff. Oysters clearly are the reason to go here. It's super tiny though so be prepared to wait if they don't have a table right away. Be prepared also to sit at the bar if you want to eat & drink sooner. Love the oyster info board... lets you know where they're from, how they taste, the size and salinity. Ask questions about each - they're super knowledgeable and will definitely give you the lowdown on each oyster. Good draft beers as well. Great for lunch or for HH/Dinner. Have you ever been to a place where every course was among the best you have ever had? I have. Just last night, in fact. This was my sixth-ish visit to Catch, located on North Ocean in Patchogue just north of Main. The place is new, small, cool and hip. Basically everything I am not. Every day there is a list of oysters on the chalk board. Last night there were eight varieties or so. The "house" oyster they grow in beds out in Southold are excellent, but every single oyster I've had there has been amazing. I don't know how they do it, but they are the freshest I've ever had. They typically have some local varieties as well as east and west coast and Canadian options. The clam chowder and bisque are home runs. For appetizers, the Oysters Rockefeller are OUTSTANDING! They fry the Oysters, a game changer. The crunch against the creamy spinach. I mean, for real??? The Sicilian Calamari, served with grilled bread, is just delicious. Just enough spice and a nice roasted garlic fresh tomato sauce. And the Poke is off the charts. Just remember to take from the bottom so that you get the yummy dressing. Another tip on the Poke: it's best when you get every component on the chip. I've not gotten to a main course yet, but tried the clams in linguini last night. It was honestly the first thing I had at Catch that was not the best I'd ever had. It wasn't bad. In fact it was very good. I just wish there was a little more wine in the mix to cut the creamy buttery amazingness just a bit. Nice beer selection. Full bar. Great service. Open kitchen. Great atmosphere. This is a strange review to write because the food was great, but I'll never go back. It was impossible to have a conversation with my lunch companion as the noise level was off the chart, something she hadn't experienced at previous visits to Catch Oyster Bay. Even worse, both the waitress and the manager not only blew us off when we politely asked if anything could be done about the noise level (which was due to one very loud group), but the manager (owner?) was incredibly rude, nasty, and somewhat threatening to my friend when she spoke with him. read more

Stopped in as soon as we got to Patchogue as we were craving fresh seafood (we are recently moved in from the midwest). Great small but good selection of draft beer, and the food was fantastic. Had the special thai calamari for an appetizer which was topped with apples, a wonderful touch. I had the fish tacos were amazing (little burnt on the fish but no complaints) and my fiance had the bass which was rich and full of flavor. This is the best seafood restaurant on the Island! My husband and I always passed it and never went in then during COVID we decided to stop in as we were sick of many other things. It did not disappoint. The chowders a phenomenal, the clams and oysters are fresh, the fish tacos or out of this world and the hook, line and sinker of fried to perfection with no grease!! This is a great little place. Tiny, actually. Thai calamari was a winner, with a thick, sweet sauce and little strips of apple mixed in. House oysters are half price after 3:00 and we're fresh and delicious. I had the Spanish octopus salad and it was awesome. I'd go back just for that again. This was a great spur of the moment lunch on Valentines Day. We had Oysters to start, so fresh! The vinegarett dressing perfect! The special was Red Snapper ceviche, and it did not disappoint! I was excited to go to Catch Oyster Bar because the menu reminds me of one of my favorite places, New Orleans. Having eaten many oyster po'boys in NOLA, and being uncommon on Long Island, once I saw it on Catch's menu I knew I had to have it. I ordered the po'boy and the crab cake slider and chowder to go. The staff was friendly and helpful. I paid $36.93 and tipped $3, I received my food bagged and ready to go and headed to Stony Brook. Once everything was opened I found that the chowder was missing from the bag, but the oyster crackers for it weren't... The po'boy was served with fries ($2 extra) had a few of substitutions over a traditional po'boy: 1) They re-use the lobster roll bread instead of a crispy baguette 2) Oysters are covered in breadcrumbs instead of battered 3) No lettuce or sliced tomatoes 4) Some kind of remoulade instead of mayonnaise Certainly not the best po'boy I've ever eaten, but most definitely not worth $18. The crab cake slider was a single slider sized burger comprised of mostly filler instead of crab. Served with a salad and balsamic dressing, I'm not sure how this costs $16. The cole slaw that was served with both items was sweeter than most and had a strong celery seed flavor that may be offputting to some After driving back to Patchogue and arriving a little over an hour and 15 minutes after I had left, I got a sorry from the bartender and I was told extra chowder was put in to the top of my half quart container to make up for the inconvenience. read more

Love this place. Great food & a great vibe, they really did a great job building this new downtown Patchogue resturant. When we entered we instantly noticed how small it was inside with probably nearly equal seating at the large bar versus available seats at tables.. I can't imagine this place be able to handle large parties but that would be one of my only gripes. Started with some adult beverages, good local beer selection available. Me & the wife ordered the Tuna Poke app to share, received a very large amount of very fresh tuna with homemade chips and a side of guac, both were very pleased. Couldn't resist and had the Montauk Lobster Roll as my entree, I'm not even a big lobster person but some reason I'm just obsessed with these things. Good portion of lobster in the sandwich with the whole lobster claws nicely placed at the top, came with slaw/pickle and opted for a side salad vs chips or fries. Extremely happy loved every bit of it. Wife got the baked clams app as her entree and received 3 fairly large clams, she said they were probably the best she's ever had & I was happy with the small bite I stole off her plate. Unfortunately they do not currently offer a desert menu in which was not a big deal, we just walked the 2minutes over to Roast for a great cup of coffee to finish the night, I don't think any resturant in Patchogue can compare with them. ****5/5 stars you won't be disappointed a must try we will def be back for more. read more

I have been to Catch a few times and the food has always been great. Now I know things are hard right now and many smaller places are having a hard time accommodating people. That is why I called and asked of they had any reservations available for 2 kids and adults. The person I spoke to said we have a reservation open at 8:15. I said great. We get there at 8:14 and they tell us ok inside. We follow and they literally try to sit us at the actual bar with a 4 and 8 year old. The waitress has no apology no I am sorry we overbooked. She just tells us that they book reservations at the bar because they are small and that is that. She wont even look us in the eye at that point. Now there is a 6 top table open and waiting for another reservation and a table open outside. Now I know things happen and I do not complain, but to pretend that nothing was wrong and you gave us an appropriate 'table's at the bar with a 4 year old who cant even reach the top is crazy and disrespectful.
