Our family (first time with kids) night out at Catch Oyster Bar!!!!
    joeysal77

Catch has been our favorite local date-night option in what seems like forever. So last night, for the first time, we had no babysitter and took the little ones. Didn't change a thing. The food and vibe at this local seafood bar right off Main Street is outstanding. Same goes for the service, as we have also done take-out from here many times. Last night as our usual to start, two dozen fresh and chill as they come, oysters (skinny magherita was so clean and fresh) We divided up the 24 into four 6-packs from different locales. We usually spend a few minutes discussing what one go better with mignonette or cocktail sauce. Of course, squeeze of lemon never hurts as is protocol. My wife and son both had the blacked salmon, one over a crispy Caesar and one over mixed veggies. Even though it was blackened crispy on the outside, the inside was juicy and done to perfection. For myself, I love a good chicken Francese, so when I saw a special "striped bass francese", I politely put the menu down. Over mashed potatoes and mixed veggies, this was a home run. Excuse me...a grand slam. I could eat that for dinner 7 nights a week and never get tired. We have so much confidence in this joint that we know we can order whatever we want and it's always done perfect. Last outting here we came especially for their soft shell crab sandwich and it was such a treat. I can't recommend this place enough. Can't wait to get back, and it's a gem.

What a great little restaurant! Others have described it as a hidden gem and I can see why. The coastal decor is very welcoming and comfortable; there are a number of standalone tables and plenty of seats at the bar, which was crowded when we arrived Our waitress, Janine, was a sweetheart - super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. She made great recommendations on the oysters from the menu. We opted for Fire Island Blues and Lucky 13. They were both delicious and super, super fresh. I have to say out of all the food we ate, the oysters were our favorite. We also ordered the baked clams, sesame crusted tuna, and fried calamari . We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and I can't wait to get back for more of those fresh oysters and delicious and tasty baked clams. If you haven't checked out this place yet, give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Love this spot. We've been here 4 times and the food is always on point. It's tiny, so you may wait for a table (there's 2 regular sized and 2-3 two seater bar height tables) or you can eat at the bar. The fish tacos here are amazing, the apps are always great too (tuna nachos, Sicilian calamari, etc). It's truly a hidden gem and a go to spot for good fish and a relaxed environment.

Unbelievable meal every time! Service and the people are like family Small place looks busy but moves quickly so I grab a drink at bar and get a table in no time. Food is so fresh, new specials weekly consistently the best food I've ever eaten Must try!

This cute little oyster bar on a side street in Patchogue has amazing food. Great chowder, shrimp cocktail and Po' Boys. Service was great too. Can't wait to go back!

First time here and I love this place! I sat at the bar with my friend and we ordered a couple of oysters and we had a lobster roll and filthy martinis. The service was OK. I loved the Caribbean music that they played. I would come back the oysters they had a lot of different types of oysters. They had fresh and salty and briney options for the oysters. check them out!

Looking for a local joint that defines fresh catch from local(& some a little further) waters? Seafood prepared consistently very well then this is it!!! The cocktails and selection of ale/stouts are impressive too! If you're a fan of raw oysters(or cooked) it'll be difficult to go anywhere else after indulging here! Don't be surprised if you have to wait for a seat. It's not a big place, but certainly worth it!

I had the opportunity to check out Catch on a Sunday afternoon. The place is on the smaller side, if I wasn't specifically looking for some where to have fresh oysters, I would have likely walked right past it. But for a small joint, it packs a big punch! We ordered a dozen fresh oysters and their fried calamari - both of which were excellent. Since it's on the smaller side, there's limited seating but we were fortunate to grab a seat at a high top right away. The service was quick and our server was friendly. This is a great place to have fresh oysters, a cold beer and watch the game. I can't wait to go back!

Swordfish bites and that stellar house-made vinegar for the freshest oysters
    Marg G.

We sat at the bar and had an amazing meal. Oysters were so fresh and so clean and their house-made vinegar was PERFECT. I had the blackened swordfish appetizer which was cooked and seasoned to perfection - juicy and flavorful. Bartender was super friendly and helpful in picking the oysters for our tasting too. Looking forward to going back!!

    A half dozen to start.

After a nice sauna session a few doors down, we stopped in here for a light dinner. Did not disappoint! Lots of parking in the back, and this place is among several other places on the corner of Ocean and Main. It was pretty full, but we got seated in a cozy spot up front. Immediately drawn to the octopus salad, but also tried the tuna wrap. A half dozen oysters while wating. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the wrap was nice and packed. This might become a regular after-sauna spot. Water glasses were filled often, and the service was nice and cheerful.

One of the best food experiences I have had in a while. We sat at the bar and right from the start I knew that I was going to like my experience because of the bartender. Nice, friendly, and accommodating. Oysters are outstanding... many local selections to choose from, but get the "house" oysters called fire island blues. The lobster roll was 9/10 - the lemon aioli gave it a great freshness. I wanted to try the white wine on tap but the co2 was out. They had a good selection of taps and a great cocktail menu. Really good food and cute place.

Delicious cocktail, but I can't remember the name!

Come hungry leave happy! Lovely indoor and outdoor dockside…read morelocation offering a variety of tasty seafood small to large plates. All drinks standard or fancy come out cold and tasty to accompany that barside snack or full lunch/dinner meal. Servers don fun T-shirts with catchy sayings buzzing around smiling serving it up. Everytime I have dined here they have been very attentive, sometimes overly, but in good spirits just making sure you have everything you wanted and needed, on top of keeping things neat/clean. This outing was for my Mr's Birthday, so appetizer, entrées and dessert. We started with the Crab Spinach and Artichoke dip with chips as we waited for entrée selections. It was served up creamy in a bread bowl stuffed with crab, spinach and artichoke, super tasty and great start. The Mr ordered up the Crab Stuffed Lobster Tail with a bechamel sauce. Noted the flavors were good, but next time would order bechamel sauce on side so there was more control of it not overwhelming the fresh protein with every initial bite. Mentioned the Roasted Potatoes and Corn that accompanied it were nicely cooked and not overly seasoned. Personally opted to double down on the crab side of things and snagged myself one of their Crab cake sandwiches on a pretzel roll. With each bite you knew the crab cake was freshly made not a frozen premade puck. It easily smashed down quickly with each bite, with good fresh crab flavor, not just breadcrumbs, like you might experience elsewhere ;) Also noted their pretzel bun was soft, airy with good classic pretzel flavor without the hard/tough exterior crunch. Noting that in the past I have also ordered up their fresh Tuna Steak entrée which is also a delicious entrée option. Finished off the meal with a menu fan favorite Chocolate Lava Cake, as my Mr is always hoping for it to truly lava out. Will say Harbor Crab definitely has come the closest in sense of it sorta flowing out when cut into. I assured the birthday boy that he should know the texture, taste were indeed on point, even if it didn't fully lava out ;) All in all another great dining experience at this location as the quality of fresh seafood offerings, service, live music ambiance and atmosphere are on point. Totally understand why this has been a fan favorite for my Mr and others for years. Would highly recommend a visit to any seafood lover.

Parking: The lot is small, but appropriately sized for the seating inside. Plus, the valet took care of everything. Service: We arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation, but were seated right away. It's seemed busy, but not packed, so I can't say if this is the norm, but everything was prompt. Drink orders were taken and came out right away, food service throughout the meal was prompt, and drink refills were always offered. Appetizers: Raw oysters were good. Could use a better cocktail sauce and maybe offer some hot sauce, but I'm sure the latter was available, if I asked. The fried calamari was a mixed bag. The breading wasn't too crisp, but the calamari was also perfectly tender, not rubbery. The breading just had no flavor or seasoning. Not even a little salt over the calamari when it came out of the fryer. That was disappointing. Dinner: My wife ordered the petite filet medium. I know it's tough to get a perfect temperature right on a thick cut filet, but hers was mostly medium well to well done throughout. I ordered the mussels with white wine and garlic as my main. The broth tasted like ... skim milk would be the best way to put it. I couldn't taste garlic, butter, or wine. The mussels were perfectly cooked, but all I could taste was mussels in skim milk. We ordered several sides which, in hindsight, we should have known were family style sized, based on the prices. Four sides for two people turned out to be quite a bit. I guess the server wanted to be polite and not point that out in case we did want four family style sized sides for two people, but that's fine. It's on us, not them. The shoestring fires were crispy. The mashed potatoes were a touch dry, but my wife likes the consistency. The asparagus were a touch undercooked, as was the broccoli, but you did get a good amount for the price. The one constant in everything we ate was that there was little to no seasoning on anything. I'm not talking over seasoning everything to the point that you don't taste the food. I mean not even a pinch of salt on anything. I don't like a lot of salt. I tend to go very light when I cook myself. If I'm adding salt to something at a restaurant, it's definitely under-seasoned. Had it been just one item, we might've sent it back or just let it go. Being that it was everything, I think it's more about how all food here is being prepared. Overall: Like I said earlier, we REALLY wanted to like this place. It just didn't live up to expectations. Sadly, we won't be back.

Cool spot with a Manhattan vibe "behind" Main Street in Patchogue…read more The reason this is key is because, since they face out to the firehouse and residential areas, parking USUALLY isn't a problem. There's a small lot that's free and you can park on Jennings. (sorry residents). We went on NYE so had to park several blocks away. No biggie. The inside is dark and cool with a city-vibe. Ample bar space and 1-4 tops an some banquet seating that lets you look out over the street. We were greeted right away by what turned out to be our server and seated promptly by the windows (we had a reservation). Also greeted by a gentleman that we think might have been her dad. The young lady hustled all night and managed the crowd well. We never waited too long for her to check in on us and she was very helpful with selecting wine and clarifying menu items. That being said, THIS IS A SMALL PLATES JOINT. People expecting full-sized portions should adjust their expectations accordingly. We did, however, order the Trastavere seafood platter (medium) which came as a tower and seemed impressive. Two types of oysters (large and medium) were presented; briny and fresh and pretty damned tasty. There was also a ceviche and tuna tartare that was, unfortunately, a bit unremarkable, as was the shrimp cocktail (though the shrimps were pretty hefty). The American "black caviar" was a nice way to commemorate the meal. Nutty with a pop of salinity but maybe something you can skip. We meant to order the Carne e Formaggi but got the Gamberetto instead which was fine as it was pretty tasty nonetheless (made with shrimp but it almost tasted like smoked salmon). Virgola Manhattan was good but pretty standard. Follow-up drink of dirty Manhattan was blissfully salty and cold. But back to the menu: we are unsure if they have an actual kitchen back there which would also explain the small plates concept and oyster and chilled fish options. The bruschetta was tasty, as mentioned, but it seems like they cut and toasted the bread and topped it with the crudo. The other bruschetta options featured ingredients from other menu items that could be re-purposed for multiple dishes. Smart but expect this. We plan on returning and trying the charcuterie board (mix and match cheeses and meats) and some cocktails. Overall, a nice night out and a nice option for dining and drinking around Patchogue. Cheers!
