I was in the area, I was hungry so I decided to try out Catrina's Tacos for the first time. I decided on the Quesabirria Tacos but I don't think they were available, so I chose the mushroom tacos. They were made to order so of course I had to wait a bit while my tacos cooked. My tacos were ready pretty quickly, the chef was kind and respectful. When I tasted my tacos they taste like your typical authentic tacos. I wish I had sour cream to go with my tacos but other than that, they were decent. This place is way overpriced for everything on the menu. Chips and salsa were $11. Four tacos one margarita and two beers with chips and salsa came to $62. That is insane for lunch. read more

Just terrible. I have been here with my family before and was unimpressed but thought I should give it another try two years later. Decor is ok, bit weird. Mens toilet is absolutely disgusting. Urinal has a crust... so gross. Server was nice but did not check on me. I ordered some tacos but all three, the taco was pure rubber. So hard to bite and enjoy, clearly over cooked unless I'm missing something. Just bad but also expensive. Server did not ask how the food was, but if she did, i would have told her. Will not be back. Too bad because it looks awesome from the outside. Chef was taking up one of the four available tables with her laptop. read more

My family and I had lunch at Catrinas on our way to tampa airport and i highly recommend you take the time to do the same. We were warmly greeted by Catrina herself who took our order, cooked our food and shared some history of the building. The food was authentic and amazing and the decor was so cute. Fell in love with Catrina's!! Such a homey, authentic Mexican restaurant. My boyfriend and his family are avid fans of Catrina's but this was my first time trying it out. First, I'm obsessed with their margaritas in a bag. Delicious, efficient and hilarious. Guac is stunning. Birria tacos for dinner are the stars of the show. I visited Cartinas Tacos and Tequila on a Wednesday night with my husband and niece. They were having drag queen bingo and I was intrigued! We got there about 30 minutes before bingo started to order our food and drinks early. I ordered two tostadas and they were fantastic! I could not finish both so I may go for one next time but they are so good you will want two! The bingo ended up being in Spanish which added to the fun! I was like a Spanish lesson with a drag queen with food, beer and prizes! Yes! Sign me up! The restaurant is a bit small though so if they get busy on bingo night, you will definitely have to call in advance for a table. I really enjoyed the entire experience, the food, the owner, the bingo and prizes! I will definitely return to try another bingo night. This place is independently Owned by Woman Tisbeth Although they claim to be in South Tampa, they are just north of 275 on Howard. I had a ly recommend you try this place out. Parking is in the rear but the food is delicious and the margaritas are very well-made. Great service. They plan to put a dance floor with a DJ and I plan on bringing all my friends from South Tampa to try Latin music. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants out there, but I would ask you give this place a try. read more

Welcome to West Tampa Catrina's! We enjoyed a variety of tacos on a Sunday afternoon. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was great. We were a little bummed they don't have their liquor license yet, so no tequila on Sunday Funday. We tried the carnitas, barbacoa and chicken tacos. They were all very filling and delicious! The salsa was just ok, too sweet and not enough spice for me. However, the homemade tortilla chips were amazing. The margarita was good but overpriced. The tacos were subpar. The carnitas was greasy at best, the beef taco wasn't seasoned. And I was accosted by a homeless man on the way in. The location is super small and service was meh. I felt as if I was bothering them. All in all I wont be back. Update: even the response to this review is in poor taste. We came for cinco de Mayo, it was packed. They had frozen margaritas in a bag which was actually really good. We got guacamole and it was okay. I got carnitas and al pastor tacos and it was okay. After having tacos in Houston from a food truck that was all in Spanish...I have been searching for that taste in Tampa. I have not found it. However-Catrinas was the closest I have come to having that authentic taste but with all the flavor. I went for lunch during the day and let me tell you. The aesthetic of the place is absolutely gorgeous. They incorporated so many of the Mexican themes in the decor. I am not sure if it was the restaurant owner or if she was just the cook...but she was so attentive to my coworker and I. We were the only ones in the restaurant and she took care of us so much Cooked all of our food to order. The esquites-mexican corn was so delicious. Just how I like it with plenty of cotija cheese. My tacos were so delicious and I was full for hoursss. I would have never known that there was this jewel just in the middle of West Tampa. Unfortunately with the demands of my job it is very rare that I cam take time to go away for lunch or even take a lunch but it was a very memorable and delicious experience. read more

Other than the cool decor , I was not very impressed with this restaurant. We came here on a Tuesday around 1230pm for $2 taco Tuesday. There was one employee working and she was super nice. I feel bad that she was working ALL alone and let me tell you , she was hustling!!!! At one point literally running from point A to B. As people started to come in it got a bit hectic because she was taking orders, cooking, serving, everything! The menu list vegan enchiladas so I ordered that but that's not what I received. I was served cheese enchiladas but because it was so busy and their was only one employee I did not want to go through the hassle of re ordering and waiting. The tacos were pretty good but you have to eat them quick because the corn tortilla gets soggy fast. The flavor and their house bottled hot sauce is delicious so that helped. The bagged margaritas they serve are NOT worth $12 and not good. I really wanted to like this place and I would try it again because the flavors of the food were good and I feel like it has potential. But If there was only one employee and a long line, I would just find somewhere else to go. I also think they need to revisit their vegan menu / options. It's too much to type but I don't think their employee understood what is vegan. Ya'll....two words...Hidden Gem! I just ate some of the best Mexican food I've ever had in Tampa. Holy Molcajete (pronounced Mole-ca-hetay) for real. When you go or if you order pick up...order the Molcajete...it is AMAZING. A mix of veggies, meat, and shrimp simmering in the most delicious sauce. I want this sauce on everything!! The dish is served with homemade corn tortillas. I have never liked corn tortillas.....ever.....but these were delicious! I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed them or my meal. I also had a house Margarita that was also so delicious. Again, one of the best Margaritas I've had in Tampa. These ladies know how to cook. Please give them a try...support local. Ordered tap water with our meal. Was informed that the building was old and the water was not good. She actually said it was yellow. Have concerns about the food and dishes that require said water. Is that a health code issue? Perhaps that is just a reason to have you buy water? Also, no soap or towels in the bathroom. Stopped in last for Taco Tuesday last night and I'm glad I did! The restaurant isn't huge but the atmosphere was nice and social distancing was definitely enforced. The food is authentic and really delicious! The chicken and beef tacos are $2 on Tuesday but the other choices are affordable too! Oh, I can't forget about the incredible hot sauce!! The margarita pouches are STRONG which was great to me but, beware! Also, I can't leave out the awesome service we received from the time we were warmly welcomed until the time we left! We went here for dinner and lotería and I'm so glad we did! We had the molcajete and queso fundido and margarita. The molcajete was delicious, chicken, steak and shrimp seasoned well. The queso was amazing! It had just the right amount of pickled onion on top. My wife ate the tortillas. They have homemade hot sauce called La Cabrona that has a little bite but isn't overpowering. When Taco Tuesday beckons, Catrinas delivers. I really enjoyed my taco Tuesday experience at Catrinas. Unlike other popular restaurants that have Tuesday deals, coming to Catrinas was a no hassle experience. We were able to sit outside on the patio to enjoy the nice Florida weather while it lasts. I love that Catrinas serves complimentary chips and salsa...and the good kind, at that. The chips are fresh and crispy and the salsa is fresh and tasty. Okay, so chips and salsa might be a weakness of mine and these tugged at my heartstrings. I could potentially devour the whole salsa bowl with a spoon but I contained myself. ;) I ordered tacos on corn and they were mighty tasty and fresh. I thought the tacos contained a good combo of flavors. $4 margarita special is a pleasant treat as well. Service was great and we weren't in need of anything. It was nice to have a relaxed atmosphere for girls night so we could catch up. I appreciate that Catrinas menu options are fresh, inventive, and made-to-order. The decor is cute and artsy with a Los Dias De Muertos theme, cool metal pieces, Mexican trinkets and colorful paintings. There is parking in the front and to the side of the restaurant. I still can't believe one person can do so well at multitasking the kitchen, front and dining all at once. Absolutely breathtaking. Margaritas are right on the money! Not for weak folks. If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. It's not the cookie cutter Americanized Mexican food. All the items are very fresh and they make it to your preferred spice level. They make family recipes and have a very made from scratch togetherness concept. You are paying for the authentic taste and fresh ingredients along with a homey atmosphere.
