We came here for opening week and were impressed. Great food. Chaos that entertained us a lot sitting at the bar/counter. I hadn't been back until my employer had an awards luncheon here this week. No pictures because you don't get out your phone in polite company--or when sitting 3 seats from your CEO. I'm happy to say that our meal was top flight, service was stellar, and the dishes on our prix fixe menu offered appealing, quality choices to this picky eater at every step. While I enjoyed my "pasticcio," essentially lasagna w meatball in a metal cup, the tiramisu stole the show. I'm usually disappointed by this dessert and don't order it. Had heard that the chef here is amazing as is the staff. Totally the truth, fabulous service. What screamed 5 Stars for me is that I am a vegan, and pretty strict about it. I asked the server what was the most vegan entree. She told me it was Trenette, and would add extra veggies to it and take off the cheese. Bingo! The dish was amazing. I try to be thoughtful when I post a critical review; I want to acknowledge that places have off nights. Chefs/cooks have bad days and so do the people who are supporting the front of house. I share that to acknowledge my experience may not be one that anyone else may have in the future and want to be mindful of posting about local places in the community. But here is our experience. I made reservations for 5:30 for my birthday. I went to dinner with my 4 y/o daughter and that seemed like it was still early enough to not get the big rush and be an ok time to dine with a younger child. My daughter had spaghetti and it came out nice and hot and she was really happy. I ordered calamari to start, it came out with her spaghetti and it was cold. I ordered the ribeye. I ordered it medium rare and it came out medium well. I sent it back and then a manager brought it to the table and it was seared on both sides and raw in the middle. I was really frustrated, but not as frustrated with the food as I was with the manager. She seemed so indifferent to the experience or that this was a special occasion. And our service was also just ok. It was hard to find our waiter at times and after we were seated it took about 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge we were there. The manager took the steak and calamari off the bill, but I really would have liked to have eaten my dinner and relaxed with my kid. But what do you do at that point, have them take it back and put it back on the grill? Nah. I'll add one more thing; it's especially tricky trying to "celebrate yourself" as a mom on a birthday. I travel for work and I spend much of my time entertaining customers at various restaurants. This is my first time at Cattivella, but it won't be my last! Service is great! Ambiance is chill and relaxed. But the food is off the Chart! I wish that I would have taken more pictures of it the share..... The Calamari was literally the best I've ever had. Came in with zero expectations and was delighted by the quality of the meal. I have had so many Caesar salads in my life that when one is really good, I notice. This was a distinctively delicious Caesar salad. I ate every bite, and devoured the fried zucchini slices. They had a lemony quality that was just divine. The pesto green lasagna was fabulous. I will need to have it again! Everything was wonderful, and I particularly appreciated the friendly service and kitchen staff. Fine dining prices for mediocre quality at best, in a location that is partially quaint in its main area, and absolutely horrible in the converted veranda. No tablecloths. Overcooked pasta alle vongole, the pizza tasted burned as clearly the bottom of the wood fired oven hasn't been cleaned for a while, $17 for a small glass of Nebbiolo, mashed potatoes tasted like the ones from a cafeteria. The tiramisu was good but $16 for a smaller portion is quite the insult... all meanwhile the restaurant smelled like sewage... they should make their happy hour prices the actual prices, as they would reflect better the value you get from this restaurant. Cattivella is my family's special occasion restaurant and we've eaten here between 8 and 10 times. Every time they knock it out of the park. Tonight I had the pork shank with mashed potatoes and I was about to pick it up and start chewing on the bone. My youngest daughter who is the pickiest eater ever consistently clears her plate here. I also like the fact that the wine list is relatively accessible and they've got a bunch of bottles they pour by the glass. As other reviews said, the happy hour here is a great deal and allows you to sample most of the dinner menu. My highest recommendation. read more

We loved this restaurant the first time we came so we decided to come here for my birthday and restaurant week. They offered a 5 course meal but sadly there were issues with 4 of the five courses. Calamari was soggy rather than crispy, they served "burrata" with a crostini but no burrata -just a teaspoon of cream; the arugula salad was good but less than 1/4 cup of greens; meatball with pasta came out cold and sent back to warm up-came back slightly warm but not hot. So disappointing since our last experience was exceptional! Might be a while before we try again and it was the highest price for restaurant week. Had a really nice dinner with some friends the other day a Cattivella! Was really impressed by the quality of food and drinks that they serve! I started out the meal with an Italian mojito, this was a interesting take on a mojito with limoncello and it was really good! For an appetizer we started out with the fried calamari and I was really that it wasn't over breaded and even though it was a seen fried dish it was surprisingly light! My favorite dish hands down the the rabbit gnocchi! This dish was really wonderful the gnocchi was so pillowy and delicious the rabbit was a wonderful touch each bite was a flavor explosion! I've been here on multiple occasions. It's a great spot for reasonably-priced, home-made pizzas and pastas. Some of the better Italian food that I have tasted (and I have an Italian grandma). Cattivella was disappointing and EXTREMELY misleading for Restaurant Week 2025. In order to be concise and to the point, I'm going to list bullet points instead of writing a novel. Overall - over-priced, tiny portions, cold food, bad service, and missing big components of dishes. I will not be returning. - The restaurant week menu that was given to my party was missing several items that were featured on the Restaurant Week Menu. The charbroiled oysters (ostiones) were not listed as an option for the first course and the parmigiano flan and bruschetta were not listed under the 2nd course. - I ordered the sgagliozze (fried polenta), but was told they were out. - The food was all room temperature or slightly above. The aioli with the baby artichokes was runny, room temperature, and bland. The calamari was lukewarm, soggy, and bland. The second course burrata came with one slice of prosciutto that was dry and had clearly been sitting out for awhile. My portion came with 2 small pieces of grilled bread, and my sister's portion came with 3. The arugula salad was small, and came topped with slice almonds, not pine nuts. The arugula was also dry and wilted. My sister and I both had the Tagliatelle with Slow Braised Bolognese sauce. They were sitting on the pass for 10 minutes before they were brought to out table. My portion had 4 strands of tagliatelle, and my sister's portion had significantly more. The pasta was mushy and cold, the sauce wasn't even lukewarm, and the sauce was sparse and cold. For dessert, the Almond Raspberry Torte did not come topped with whipped amaretto cream. The odd frosting on top tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator uncovered for several days. The flourless cinnamon chocolate torte did not come with caramel sauce or candied walnuts. The almond raspberry torte was a full disc, and the flourless chocolate torte was also a disc, but came cut in half. Our server at the beginning of the evening was training, and he was a delight. Our appetizers were slightly slow to come out, but I attributed that to the busy evening. The trainee was cut right before our salads arrived, and he trainer took over. 8:20 rolled around, and my sister and I were still waiting on our pasta dishes. Most of the restaurant had cleared out. (Pizza was FLYING out of the pizza oven). Our server and the blonde woman who brought us our food didn't stop to check on us. Someone else brought us dessert at 8:40. I had just taken my first bite of dessert when our server came by, dropped the check on the table, said "No rush" and walked away. It appears that Restaurant Week for Cattivella seems like an over-priced cash grab gimmick instead of actually making decent food. At least PRETEND to care. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner. There were at least 5 empty tables but the ambiance was noisy (in a good way) and busy with multiple parties siting outside and people in and out of the bar area. I ordered the lamb ragu and my boyfriend ordered the aged steak, which came with pesto on top and arugula on the side. The steak is listed as market price but it came out to rough $36. We tried each other's dishes and both were very flavorful and delicious. We also shared one of the daily specials for an appetizer which was a steak tartar with two raw egg yolks on top. I would definitely recommend getting the three dishes listed above. For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu and the berry tart, both very delicious. The berry tart takes 15 minutes to make so while we were sipping on our wine, a different waiter other than ours brings espresso to our table. After we told him that we didn't order an espresso, he removed the espresso from our table and said he would being us one anyways since it was his mistake. When it came time to pay however, we saw it was added to our bill anyways. Perhaps it was a busy night, but be sure to take a lose look at the bill! read more

Our server was okay, but the bussers were busting their tail! Catitivella is definitely worth the time to stop and eat if you are flying into Denver and need to drive up to the slopes. We were headed up to Vale to ski for Christmas and New Years and had the privilege of eating Chef Elise's amazing Italian cuisine! She cooked the Ribeye for my husband and son to perfection. I didn't hear a word out of them when they were eating!! They were in Heaven! I enjoyed the charbroiled Oysters and the mushroom pizza. You can really tell that Chef Elise has put many years of experience into each meal she serves! What a great experience right before we traveled to Vail for the week. Cattivella is so close to the airport and so easy to eat a meal and then check into your hotel in Denver or head up to the slopes. I highly recommend this restaurant and will plan to go back each time I am in Denver! I love the ambiance also! Great vibes with the open kitchen and beautiful bar area! Made a same day reservation using open table for a party of 4 at 6:30 on a Saturday night, thanks for getting us in. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and immediately sat in the back room. Our group was a bit excited to be in this space, albeit it has a different vibe than the rest of the restaurant it was quieter. But as we got to our table noticed they had placed many families with young children in this space and eventually had a large group (8+ get sat next to us and had to do a lot of table rearranging which was distracting). On to the service and food! Our server Yuvani (I may be incorrectly spelling their name) was attentive with recommendations and answered all our questions. While we wanted a few items that were not on the menu this evening, we made due. Ordered some wine, the ragazzarita mocktail with tequila, Burrata appetizer, garlic bread, the trenette pasta, butternut squash gnocchi, pollo valdostana, and pasticcio. The Burrata was delicious and a very hearty portion, loved the pita style bread it was on (I think it's their pizza dough). While the garlic bread was good it wasn't anything to write home about for me sadly, 3 slices of thin toasted bread that were garlicky with sea salt on top, that sea salt was definitely the best part for me. Maybe it needed a little olive oil or marinara sauce to dip it in. The trenette was quite tasty and spicy for those who have a sensitive palate due to the red pepper flakes, can't wait to eat my leftovers. The butternut squash gnocchi was very tasty and not overwhelming with butternut squash flavor, just the right amount. I'm an avid gnocchi eater and pretty judgy (sorry) so I would have liked them to have been cooked for maybe 30 seconds less to make them a little more al dente as these were very very soft. The pasticcio was also good, with the array of flavors, sauces, and meat. On the smaller side portion for my partner to eat but he really didn't complain. Lastly was the polla Valdostana, beautiful plating presentation! We were questioning the very thin liquid that the mashed potatoes/spinach were sitting on top of, when cutting the chicken the only option is for it to land in that sauce which then make the crunchy chicken soggy - maybe we were doing it wrong? Cattivella is hands down the best restaurant in Denver. Every time I am in town from Chicago I make reservations and can't miss visiting the amazing team here. Ben is absolutely an amazing server and the owner and chef is always visible and mentors her team to deliver top notch food and cocktails. Their happy hour is one of the best in the country -- all day on Mondays and 5-6 p.m. other days. Their happy hour menu is full of regular menu items and some of the top dishes. I made reservations online and we got seated right away when we got there. The service was really good and our waiter gave a good overview of the menu to help us decide. We ordered the calamari and the buffalo buratta for appetizers and both were so tasty. The calamari had a little spicy kick to it. For dinner we ordered the Pasticcio which was probably my favorite dish. It was very tasty and the meatballs were made just right. The pollo Valdostana was a little bland even with the sauce. I was a little disappointed with that dish since the waiter recommended it but still not bad. Prices were good. I liked the decor on the inside. I feel like I'm going a tad bit insane seeing so many five star reviews. We have been to Cattivella before and had a seriously wonderful experience, but quality was not ideal during our recent visit. Our appetizers were great but our entrees were near difficult to eat. My husband got the lamb ragu, which tasted more like beef stew and so so salty. I ordered the trenette. I've had the trenette before and it really was a great dish in the past, but during my recent visit I had to send it back. The noodles were so over cooked it tasted like soup noodles, like those ones you get in Campbell's soup. And the pasta had a soupy texture. I do want to mention our server was fantastic, and they were really the redeeming factor for us. But overall, I'm sad because we live in the neighborhood and I don't think we will be returning. read more

We have been twice to this lovely bustling cafe. One night just the two of us; one night with 7 of us. The smokey wood burning ovens feel homey and smell wonderful on approach to the restaurant. For starters we had the Buratta and we had the chicken liver pâté both were flavorful and enjoyed by all of us around the table. On our first visit we enjoyed a pizza from the huge pizza oven -again- wood fired- delish with speck that was just salty enough and so thin you probably could see through it. I love the all week 5-6pm happy hour so that you can choose smaller plates to try something new off the menu to share, plus the $8 old fashions are well made! As with most others, we recommend you talk to the waiter/waitress when you sit down about getting the crustatta so they can time it out with your dinner. It takes ~30 minutes to make! Where do I start - the food is good, BUT this restaurant has become what is necessary to survive or a good business model for a chain. Serving a balance of bang for the buck for the least amount of money cost. When this restaurant opened, pretty amazing on all accounts. No wine list = mass marketing dining. This is the place to come when you do not want to cook for your family and tasty food. Staff are great. The main dining is the money. The garage dining is bright - the big red chandelier, but putting lipstick on a pig. Terrible ambience- then you have servers trying to rearrange tables for parties ... affects ambiance. Buffalo Burrata - plain pizza with a quarter of burrata DO NOT ORDER Charbroiled Oysters - Hard Pass Pasticcio - very good and to taste the chef's amazing pasta brings back memories of her vision. We just had a fantastic meal here! We got there at the tail end of happy hour and got the charbroiled oysters, the rabbit gnocchi, the fungi and spinach lasagna, lamb ragu, beef cut of the day (which was ribeye) and the salumi calbrese pizza. Not all of that was on the happy hour but I digress..... The charbroiled oysters were good! If you're a fan of oysters I would recommend but if you're just a casual fan I don't think they would be a huge stand out for you; as they were a traditional Parmesan-y charbroiled oysters, good but not reinventing the wheel here. Rabbit gnocchi was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend. Set aside any reservations you may have about eating rabbit and just put this in your mouth. The caramelized onion flavor really stands out and is so delicious, the rabbit is a shredded umami flavored meat and would make a fan out of even the squeamish of guests. Just try it. The fungi and spinach lasagna was delicious! You will not miss the meat in this dish! It's hearty and full of flavor. Absolutely delightful. Lamb ragu was tasty. I kinda wish they served bread with it? Even after finishing all the delicious pappardelle pasta with the chunks of delicious braised lamb I still wanted something to dip in that amazing strew-like remnants in the cast iron. Beef cut of the day was ribeye. It was flavored well, you could taste the grill on it, in a good way. Cooked well, fat was rendered and cooked appropriately where it had that melt in your mouth feel. It could have been a tad more tender. That's my only thing, it was good but I've had better. Potatoes that came with were fantastic, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, luxurious mouthfeel on that one. Salumi calabrese pizza was amazing. It had a very certain spice to it, but it wasn't overpowering and it didn't burn me out. Very flavorful. I also had an old fashioned that I very much enjoyed and the guys I was with had the dry dock apricot blonde. I was able to finish off one of their pours when they were too full to finish it off and I thought it was great. Would recommend that if you're a fan of fruity blonde ales. Overall, I really enjoyed coming here and the food. Service was excellent, and after we were done eating they even gave us a complimentary taste of tiramisu, which was icing on top of the cake of a great dinner. read more

Started with fried calamari and a flatbread appetizer then moved progressively toward pasta and Pizza. I had the Lasagna and was amazing, thin layers of fresh made pasta noodles, delicately prepared lamb Ragu, and a fresh tomato sauce topped with grated Parmesan . Ok - I'm going to just start this review by saying that I have never been to Italy, not have I ever had "authentic Italian food." If you have, then please take my review with a grain of salt as my dining companion has been to Italy and shared that Cattivella had the best pizza she's had outside of Italy. That being said, I wasn't too impressed. Everything we had was pretty bland in my opinion. We began with the calamari and it was bland and a very small portion. A great Italian restaurant in Denver. While most restaurants have happy hours with drink specials and some appetizers, their happy hour also includes smaller portions of most of their pasta and pizza menu items. It runs every day until 6pm and all day Monday. Best happy hour in the city in my opinion. I would highly recommend the rabbit gnocchi, calamari and tiramisu but you really cannot go wrong with anything you order. Their pizza is great too. My mother is lactose intolerant and the waitress was able to tell her exactly which items had dairy and which items could be modified to not have dairy.
