We stopped in on a Saturday evening on our way home from the mountains. They were obviously slammed, so we found a table in the bar. We could see that they were all running their tails off- and seemed to be a bit understaffed. We ordered drinks, and waited about 30 min, then I asked a manager to check on them. He explained that they were understaffed-the drinks soon appeared, and he comped them. I thought this was really nice, and very good business. Our dinner was really delicious and we will definitely be back. I had a 2 lb. porterhouse steak medium rare, and it came with string onions, a community salad, bread, beans, and mashed potatoes (with au jus sauce since they didn't have gravy). The steak was huge and I was very tired afterwards from the "itis." Service was responsive and friendly. It seemed like we had multiple waiters at times because they were so acommadating in refilling our drinks or removing plates we no longer needed. The decor is nice; reminds of an old Western movie. Love cattlemans! I'm always going here for a big juicy steak. But this time I had to order to go since it was on my way home and I didn't feel like making dinner. I ordered a rack of ribs and prime rib. They gave us a lot of sides and packed everything neatly. By the time I got home, I was ready to eat. It was so difficulty not eating the food while I drove home. HAHA! As always, cattlemen's delivers! There was so much meat on the ribs I got full eat just two of them. Pretty good experience overall, quick and friendly service, decent food and reasonable price. I had the teriyaki steak with mash potatoes. The steak was marinated well, had good flavor and the mash potatoes were buttery and rich. Also got salad, some warn sourdough bread and kettle beans with my meal. Definitely a full meal. Also got to try the Peter Pan cookie (which is basically a pizookie) which was yummy also. Would definitely recommend this place for family dinners or a bday but would advise to make a reservation in advance. From 5 stars down to a 1. My 74 year old Mom chose to celebrate her birthday at Cattleman's. She made a reservation and requested outdoor dining. Between the time that she made the reservation in the AM and our 6:30 PM reservation, a large party reserved the entire outdoor dining area. Cattleman's and the hostess on duty refused to honor their word. We were given the choice to eat *inside* a restaurant, where one sneeze caught in the air conditioner's draft could cause a super spreader event. Or, we could choose our health and walk away from a birthday dinner that my Mom had been looking forward to. We chose health. Please do not offer Covid-safe outdoor dining reservations, Cattleman's Steakhouse, if you cannot honor them. Now Cattlemens is a treat for my family and I. The service is consistently impeccable, as staff are ALWAYS kind, courteous, and prompt. The place is always busy but surprisingly you can have a normal conversation with your family. No need to yell! I do recommend making reservations, even if it's not a special occasion as it does limit your wait time, but that company video they have playing on loop while you wait for your table is so mesmerizing. It get's your taste buds ready for the indulgences you will soon partake in. What I really like about coming here is there are no hiccups. Your cup will have water right away, you will have the most fragrant, delicious, warm bread EVER - with enough butter to satisfy anyone. You will get a huge bowl of salad that is FRESH and clean. Crunchy cucumbers, nice cold tomatoes, and more dressing than you probably need but come on, you're going to use it all. The steaks are cooked the way you ask for them, the fried onions will taste so good you will forget to savor them, and that bowl of beans will go quick. I like to smother those bad boys on my steak so I can't share with with anyone at that point :). Usually at this point we are too full and weak to have dessert but hey - you can always box it up and take it home. THEY ARE ALL DELICIOUS. She took our order quickly and brought out the hot bread which was very tasty. The salad to follow was also fresh and crispy, very good. Sadly to say, that was all that was good during out meals. The medium rare ribeye, petite filet, small sirloin, steak with shrimp were all tough and did not taste good. We wonder what grade of beef was used, probably worse than select which is the lowest grade. Considering the price and the steak quality, that's zero star for the steak. My mom and husband both ordered ice tea and there were NO spoons in the silverware. Why are spoons so hard to come by in restaurants? My sister and I ordered wine which was quite warm, we took ice cubes out of our water glasses. Three of us wanted salad, we were given a bowl with barely enough salad for 2 people. Not generous with those portions. When our meals came, those were lacking as well. My sister's filet was so thin it could have been schnitzel! It was overcooked too. She sent it back and the 2nd time was equally as bad. Thin, overcooked and flavorless. I ordered the mushroom ravioli. The ravioli themselves were okay but it barely had any marinara sauce on it. This is a great steakhouse. The steaks are amazing, as are all the other parts of the feast they put before you. Family style salad, endless fresh bread and crocks full of beans until you just can't take it any more. The dining room is huge, so even if it looks like there is a crowd you will not wait long. The wait staff always is polite and attentive and I never have left this place feeling like I was rushed or that I had been treated like "just another customer." This has been one of our family's "go-to" places for a nice night out for several years. We keep going back because this place demonstrates western hospitality, good ambience, and excellent food even if they charged Chicago steakhouse prices, yet their prices are reasonable. If your kids are under 12 get the Cattlemen's shirts and the kids eat free if they wear the shirt. It will extend your budget for a nice glass of wine - or let you pay for an Uber so you can enjoy a few cocktails. Great place. The wife and I are (were) long term customers of Cattlemens (Dixon). Upon our last visit we had made reservations for a 5 o'clock time, but because of other circumstances we arrived a hour before (about 4:00). We checked in with the hostess but she told us that we would not be seated until 5 even though it was not busy at all. We decided to try to eat at the bar area where it was not busy. The bar waitress came by and brought us some bread, and said she'd come back. Behind us were two other couples had just sat themselves at open tables. The bar waitress went straight to them and asked them if they wanted drinks, and took the order of one of the couples. She walked right by us and said she'd be with us in a bit as she went to the other tables, taking their more orders. We decided to leave the bar and go back to the front and wait for our table, since our name was already in. As we waited, other people arrived (without res) and the hostess was advising 10-15 minutes waits, then would call their names out and seat them only after a few minutes. 45 minutes later, still waiting, watching multiple people get instantly seated, I asked for the manager because this was just so ridiculous. After explaining the situation to the manager, although I felt like he might have been listening, at the end of explaining the situation, he looked at me with a blank face, as though he was waiting for me to give him directions on what to do. Afterwards he spoke to the hostess and had us sat at a table immediately. It's appalling that this company does not recognizing how stupid and silly it is to treat customers like this. Forthwith, I hereby place a 10,000 year embargo on Cattlemens (Dixon). Hopefully in that time they will figure out how to properly cue their customers. read more

We tried Cattlemens after a recommendation from my dad's colleague. It was very bad. There are a lot of things wrong with this place. For starters, we got the jumbo stuffed mushrooms. My dad tried to pick one up, and the filling fell out. I smelled an odor that reminded me of dirty socks. I was like, "What is that smell?" It turned out it was the mushrooms. The stuffing had no flavor and was burned. The cucumbers in our salad tasted rotten. The texture of my steak was very weird. It appeared to be a very cheap quality / tough steak that was pounded to smithereens with a meat hammer to break down the muscle. I ordered it medium, but it was cooked very well done. The fat on the side wasn't rendered well. It also tasted like someone dumped a bottle of liquid smoke on it. The mashed potatoes with my steak were cold, so I assume these were out of the fridge or instant or something and weren't reheated well. We did not finish our food. The waitress asked if we wanted to-go boxes, and we said no. We left and got some Jack in the Box and Starbucks. read more

I've been here several times now, usually to dine with my brother. We met again recently for dinner, but this time I was on a "de-tox" diet (no caffeine, no sugar, no dairy, no eggs, no seeds, nuts, or grains, no beans, no vegetables from the nightshade family, no gluten...no fun). The rules are a lot like the paleo diet except de-tox is more focused on foods that may compromise your immune system. And it is working well for me; I'm feeling much better and I am losing weight. But....yeah, the diet is a pain, and I do not go out much because of all the restrictions. Yet our dinner at Cattlemens was GREAT! I had a New York strip steak, steamed broccoli, and the "endless" house salad. The steak was excellent, the broccoli steamed to perfection, and the salad was good, too. We had just oil and vinegar for a salad dressing, brought to us by our waitress Kirsten. She really worked with us when we ordered, and helped us stick to our diets and food preferences. $1 ribs on Mondays during game season! What's better than that? Driving there is a little scary. There are few road lights and there's a sharp turn in the road before getting to the lot. The inside is pretty homey. There are animals heads and paintings around every corners. During the sale, they separate the people who want ribs and everyone else who wants to eat from their actual menu. Our server was a bit cold to us :( telling us that we couldn't combine certain tables and we'd have to wait if we wanted to eat with all six of us together. I booked a reservation online for 7:15pm (stated in the reservation that we were celebrating my husband's birthday) and was seated exactly at 7:15pm. The bread was yummy and we enjoyed the butter even more and asked for a second serving. We ordered the berry mojito and it was sooooo good!!! The appetizer portion was big. We ordered the artichoke dip and it was delicious and so flavorful and will definitely order this again. For the main course, I ordered the rib eye. The flavor was good but it was too fatty for my preference. My husband ordered the cowboy steak and he loved it! The steaks came with a salad (the blue cheese dressing was so yummy), beans and a baked or mashed potato. It was so busy so service was kinda slow. Had to remind our server again about my husband's birthday since i don't think they are told of that from the reservation. I'm sure you know Cattlemen's is not a two-stars restaurant, but it was last Friday night. We were a party of five. This is what it happened. The well-done sirloin we ordered came raw, I mean, way far from medium. We told the waitress, she took it to the kitchen but it took too long to get it back. By the time the sirloin reached our table again, we have lost appetite. The cannelloni or whatever we ordered was over-cooked. The steak and shrimp was ok. The baby back ribs were good. My beef back ribs were so cold it was like they were taken from the fridge. It was disgusting, and my appetite was ruined. We asked for our military discount but the waitress said it was too late for applying the discount because they have ran the ticket. Then she smiled and said, "Maybe next time". Imagine how we were feeling. We have been regulars at Cattlemen's for years now... maybe until last Friday. We just wasted our "dinner out" budget. I should have went to Dawson's bar and grill. Had been going to this location for many years because we always enjoyed the delicious steaks, complete with all the fixings and wonderful service. We will think long and hard before we try this place again. We both ordered the bone-in ribeye steaks. They very tough and flavorless. I was totally shocked Cattlemens would consider serving these. They were so tough and dry you could not get the fork into them to saw off a piece of meat. Terrible quality for a top priced Cattlemen's steak cooked medium rare. We brought it to our server's attention and she said maybe the kitchen had forgot to run the steaks through the tenderizer. I do not want to order a steak at a restaurant that has to run it through a machine to make the meat palatable. I guess Cattlemen's no longer raises their own beef. These were terrible. No marbling at all in the steaks and both had a long border of grisle along one side of the steak that should have been trimmed off. Not acceptable for the Cattlemen brand. If you want a cheaper cut steak that is tender and flavorful, try Texas Roadhouse ribeye for $39.00 or better yet treat yourself to the original Buckhorn in Winters for wonderful flavor filled steak dinners. The rest of the Cattlemen meal was nice; calamari appetizer, fresh mixed green salad and hearty baked potato that came with the meal. Our service was prompt and nice. Haven't been here in quite a while and I'm really not one to complain but I can't help myself after paying $125 dollars plus a tip for cold food that we waited 45 minutes for. My sons Mac n cheese was literally cold to the touch. My tri tip dip was also cold. My wife's food was somewhat warm which was nice for her. My wife ordered a drink and they said they "ran out of an ingredient" so they made it extra strong. So strong she couldn't even drink it.... Instead of complaining like I said we usually don't, we sucked it up and paid for it and left. I understand they're busy and probably short staffed but paying THAT much for dinner and waiting that long warrants some type of complaint. read more
