I had a ten minute wait for roasted vegetables and I didn't mind at all. Jose and the staff rewarded me with their appreciation for my patience. 4.25 stars. For the life of me, I don't understand why the girl w/ the attitude works at the store. Every single time I go, she's working and has an attitude. Yesterday when I went, I took a friend who had never been there before. The labels for all the food was gone. (Mind you it was 8:40pm) I explained all the different dips for her. Then I get to the register and the girl w/ the attitude is working it, usually she's making the food up front. I stand there for a solid 45 seconds while she writes things down at the register, playing w/ receipts, and etc. I have to say to her "CAN I PAY?!" before she acknowledges me. The space is super child friendly as well with high chairs, friendly service and even a beautifully packaged kids meal (although portions are big so my daughter and I tend to just share a bowl). A family Cava meal is a gift you give yourself several days in a row...whether you have a family or not. For only $45, they give you a meal that is supposed to feed 6. I'm usually able to get more meals than that out of it. Remember their take out containers? Picture one filled with rice, one filled with chicken or veggies, and two filled with greens (I like the super greens because they last longer). Think you get two dips and four toppings, along with feta and six pitas. You also get to pick two different dressings. I'll be honest, this is like the only easy way to get me to eat healthy right now. They are also doing their regular menu and a few new items like lamb nachos, but I'm hoping they'll keep doing family style meals even after there's a vaccine. I came here for the Cava Mezze Opening Day Community Event, aka: Free Food, thanks to the YELP event announcement. I was excited that Cava finally opened. Its in my neighborhood, so I've been watching the construction for this place since winter when there was snow on the ground. The location used formerly held a Hallmark card shop. I arrived at 5:30 pm thinking the event was already in progress, however there were a few people waiting outside. I asked if they were open and they clarified the hours for the event...so I had a 30 minute wait until the event began at 6 pm. I was sort of bummed, but within those 30 minutes I watched the line grow and grow all the way down past the Golf-Pro shop. So I was stoked I was at the front within the first 10 patrons. People were taking all sorts of pictures of the growing line, traffic was slowing down as people were trying to figure it all out, passengers were jumping out of cars to get on the line while the drivers parked. Excellent turnout. Before the grand opening, they passed out mini-menus so you could figure out what you wanted prior to entering. I studied the menu and decided to go with lamb all the way...something I never order. Once open, the layout immediately reminded me of Chipotle (there's one within the same strip mall!!). An assembly line of staff people working from right, to left to right quickly working on your dish. You have the choice of starting with greens, rice, or pita as the base. I went with brown rice, then on to the meat, lots of lamb options, chicken, etc, and veggie toppings like cucumber salad, tomato salad, feta dip, hummus, etc. The orders are build-your-own plates or bowls. I was sort of overwhelmed with all the sauces and dips, so I asked for my 3 selections in mini-salad dressing containers. I'm picky like that!! I had an order of the pita chips. OMG, they are addictive, really good. Also, one beverage. I went with the strawberry-lime, so refreshing. Of course I had to taste each one before deciding. They were all really sweet, I was sort of surprised by that, so I imagine they're loaded with extra sugar, possibly high fructose, but don't quote me on that. I've been here several times since their opening and have to add: their service is exceptional. Maybe I'm just used to ordering my Cava cowering in fear at Mosaic, but this place is my favorite Cava location. Also, this location doesn't charge you for extra rice (Mosaic sometimes does). Some notes if it's your first time: -a lot of people aren't jazzed by their first experience. I don't think you can go wrong with the base or even the proteins... I think people are hesitant about the toppings and dressings. If it's your first time, I think you should get all of the toppings except the ones you know you don't like and get all of the dressings on the side. If it's your first time, try to make it a no fail experience. -I get the half and half (half greens, either power greens or romaine, half rice) or just rice bowl with chicken. Chicken is a no fail. I've also tried the meatballs, which are good, but sometimes a little dry. D I P S/ S P R E A D S Harissa is actually spicy, so if you have low heat tolerance, I suggest getting it on the side. Crazy feta is not nearly as spicy.. maybe the feta tempers the heat. I like to get red pepper hummus, tzatziki, and harissa (not on side because I like the pain). T O P P I N G S If it's your first time and you don't know what toppings to get... I get all of the add-in's except olives and crunchy wonton-looking thingys (only because I don't like olives). I see a ton of other people that get almost all of the add-in's each time I go. I don't think you can go wrong with a ton of add-in's (if you're worried about making a weird flavor combo and ruining your first cava). I end with +lemon tahini and a little yogurt dill sauce (get it on the side if it's your first time).* P I T A on the side. You can't go wrong with it.. sort of like getting your tortilla on the side. But it's an extra charge and I think it's better for sit-down meals because it gets hard really fast. Also the extra charge (drinks, pita, etc.) really add up here making your meal a lot more expensive than you might intend, so forgo soda and pita if you're on a budget. W A T E R is dispensed in a plastic dispenser NEXT to the soda dispenser.. it has ice and sliced lemon in it. My friend didn't know this and accidentally got carbonate water from the soda dispenser. *If you're at Mosaic district and you plan to get all of the add-ins with a few exceptions, don't ask for it individually or prepare for a lot of sass and angry employees. read more

And given that their parent/main restaurant Cava Mezze (located in Clarendon) is one of my Top 3 favorites restaurants in the area, I love the fact that they have a more casual/convenient version. Although they don't offer the same things, the flavor elements are still all there. This Chipotle-esque method is perfect for picky eaters like me. You get to choose: 1. Style- Salad, pita, wrap, rice bowl, etc. 2. Protein- Lamb, chicken, falafel, etc. 3. Dips- Hummus, tzatziki, harissa, etc. 4. Toppings- Veggies, quinoa, etc. 5. Sauces- Tahini, olive oil, etc. So many choices! But I usually have a go-to which is too complex to recite. All the flavors work together and you really can't go wrong with any of the combinations unless you just straight up have a horrible palate. It's also a lot of food when comparing to its cost. And their drinks/ teas are unique and flavorful. It's quite the healthy option if you choose to make it so. This location is SO spacious and clean on the inside, they also have outdoor seating. The first time I visited CAVA at Mosaic in 2016, I thought that the food was pretty good although the crew didn't seem too friendly or helpful and so I haven't felt compelled to return. I was in the Fairfax area today so I thought I would give CAVA another try. There was a long line as it was lunchtime but the line moved fairly quickly and the staff seemed pleasant. I got the Grain Bowl to go ($9.37) with Saffron Basmati Rice and some Black Lentils. I topped it with Chicken, Kalamata Olives, Pickled Banana Peppers, Cauliflower Quinoa Tabbouleh, Crumbled Feta, Tzatziki, Hummus and Harissa. I asked for the Green Harissa dressing to be packed in a separate container as I didn't want the grains to be soggy by the time I got home. I loved the Hummus, Harissa, Tzatziki and Green Harissa as they were such tasty complements to the rice bowl. The chicken was smoky but a little too dry. Maybe I should give the Falafel a try next time. I haven't had a good one since our guide took us to a hole in the wall in Amman, Jordan. Like some other Yelpers have mentioned, the portions here are fairly dainty (read: small) so I've polished off the entire bowl and am still feeling a little hungry. read more

It's been a year this we were here last. Hubby wanted low carb high protein meal for dinner so came here after debating between a few semi healthy restaurants. We came in tonight around 7:30, there was no line so we got our food pronto. He got the bowl with chicken, greens, roasted veggies, tahini and a bunch of stuff that's healthy for you but taste yucky aka fresh Brussels sprouts. Loved the roasted squash though. I wasn't too hungry so only ordered a drink, jasmine ice tea that ended in the trash for the bitter taste. I love tea and jasmine is one of my favs but good tea is not supposed to be bitter. You walk in and order chipotle style - Pick your choices, toppings and sauces and whaaaa laaaa delicious ! Plenty of parking and the long line looks daunting but it moves quickly- This is a HOT new food eatery for sure ! I came here when in the area for work and it was fairly empty as it was around 2PM ET. I got through the line pretty quick and decided to try the new honey harissa chicken, which I got charged an extra 1$ for. Honestly for an extra $1, the honey harissa chicken was a SCAM! The chicken quality was awful, with cartilage or fat in almost every piece of chicken I had. Kind of ironic as this means they are most likely using cheap quality chicken but we get charged extra.
