The mocha I ordered was made quickly, and the pastries were the standard fare for a coffee bar. The selection was limited and seemed based on a theme of strawberries: strawberry almond muffins, strawberry croissant, strawberry Danish... I guess that was the ingredient of the day. Overall, a respectable coffee bar, but nothing to make it stand out from others like it... which is fine when all you want is a decent pastry and a good cup of coffee.

We were in Pismo for the weekend and the 30 minute drive was easy at 8:30am when we left. It opens at 9am so I thought it would be good to be there then. And so did about 80 people. The line was to the end of the block. Don't be deterred. We were striking up conversations with everyone around us. You order at the window, they give you a number for the table, and they bring out your food. Look for the sauces they keep above the sugar cream station. Onto the food! We got the San Luis Sunrise (free range eggs, Niman Ranch bacon ends, avocado, hk sauce) and the Mannix Machaca (scrambled eggs, slow cooked carnitas, hk green salsa, avocado, hk sauce). I thought by the look of it that the waffles would be the winner....nope! The blue corn flour tortilla Mannix Machaca won the day! Oh, and the ridiculous smoothly the Baywood Berry. One is enough for two and they'll split it for you. Put this place on your must try list!

We enjoyed the blueberry muffin while we waited. It was filled with huge blueberries and had the perfect balance of sweetness. It was not too heavy and instantly became a favorite. The Pain Bijou was delicious and reminded me of the flavors of a sausage biscuits and gravy breakfast. The ham and cheese croissant was really good, but for two people we probably could have just stuck with the Pain Bijou and the muffin. I look forward to coming back the next time we are in Cayucos.

We tried the butter pecan and honey churro ice cream and the mista gelato and all three were heavenly. The best part was our server who was so friendly, so helpful, and just had the best attitude. He made the visit even more memorable. The candy all looked fresh and fun - amazing considering the extensive selection of gourmet artisan truffles to vintage candy brands of childhood. This is no tourist trap. Locals and visitors, check it out when you're headed to the Cayucos pier.

The overall atmosphere and food were great. Our first visit was so enjoyable, in fact, that we went back a second time soon after, perhaps only a week's time... and were disappointed. We simply ordered the same as we previously had, so no menu changes for us, yet the experience was a change for the worse. Our food took a surprisingly long time to arrive (there was no one else in the dining room), subjecting us to music that was not classic jazz, but pop radio. When the food finally arrived the side of potatoes was limited and soft. The serving of avocado that topped my omelet was also noticeably reduced. The tomatoes had changed from fresh to sun-roasted, and the spinach was barely there. The previously generous serving of fries on the side of my husband and son's burgers was also reduced. The servers were all very nice both times, but when the food is inconsistent at a restaurant, that is unsettling because you can never go with any confidence that you'll get what you expect.

I'm glad we finally tried it. It's a small coffee shop right off Embarcadero with a simple setup. They have refrigerators with cold drinks, can make both hot and iced coffee, and also offer a small selection of pastries such as muffins, croissants, bagels, and cinnamon rolls. They also sell coffee to take home. There really isn't indoor seating, but that did not bother us at all. You're right by the coast, and there are tables outside in the breezeway along with areas near the dock where you can stand and enjoy your drink. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The menu is displayed on a TV screen near the entrance, which made ordering easy. I ordered a large iced Mexican mocha, and it was excellent. You could actually taste the spice in it rather than it just tasting like a regular mocha with a different name. I would absolutely order it again. One small thing that really stood out to me was their discount program. Near the register, they had a multicolored flag recognizing several groups including military, law enforcement, EMS, firefighters, dispatchers, and nurses. Before ringing us up, the employee pointed to it and asked whether any of those applied to us. I told her I was a nurse, and she immediately gave me 10% off. I thought that was a really nice touch. Discounts for military and first responders are common, but nurses are not always included, so I appreciated the recognition. Between the good coffee, friendly staff, convenient location, and thoughtful service, I really have nothing negative to say about this place. I would absolutely come back and would gladly try more of their drinks and pastries next time I'm in Morro Bay.

Cayucos Coffee gets a full 5 stars from me and honestly, perfect timing had a lot to do with it. My husband and I stopped in for a quick caffeine fix on our way home from a beach weekend after a (very fun, very cold) stop at the off-leash dog beach in Morro Bay. It had started raining, the wind picked up, and suddenly we went from "beachy weekend glow" to "why didn't we bring heavier jackets?" real fast. Enter: this place. Absolute sanctuary. I ordered a cappuccino with soy milk (which was a treat since I usually do oat at home), and it was perfect...smooth, rich, and exactly what I needed to warm back up. Bonus points for having multiple plant milk options, t's such a small thing that makes a big difference. I also really love that they focus on ethically sourced coffee. You can feel good about what you're drinking while also just...really enjoying it. And the ambiance? Cozy, welcoming, and exactly what you want when there's a steady drizzle outside. Sitting there with a hot drink while the rain taps on the windows felt like the ultimate little escape. This wasn't just a coffee stop, it was a reset button. We'll absolutely be back next time we're passing through Cayucos. read more

Ate it while driving so that really facilitated us getting home before the traffic. It was a very hearty burrito the rock harburrito. Gave us some green sauce to go with it. And it was just amazing. The inside is somewhat cramped with many tables and chairs. She also sells baked goods. And some random things. Like coffee mugs and other things. But I went back on Monday, June 8th and had a very different experience. I ordered 2 small cups of hot chai with extra foam, extra hot and 1/2 sweet. When they were done, both were "heavy" meaning they felt like there was no foam. I checked and yup...no foam. I mentioned it to the barista who said "no problem. I'll do them over". They were done quickly, but still felt "heavy". I didn't want to go back and figured "it's just me". I got into my car and tried one. It was 90% the same as before. She simply scraped a sliver of the drink off the top and added a touch of foam. Plus...the liquid was "thin" meaning she nearly scalded the drink to get it hot. The 2nd chai was the same way. And the shop wasn't even busy at the time. Everyone at the Nautical Bean is friendly and the vibe is great, but next time I'll take my own advice...even if that means going back to the barista twice to get things right.
