I spent over $450 on a lawn mower at the end of last summer. I used it ONE time. It wouldn't start when I tried to do the first mow of this year. They were on the list of approved warranty repair companies so this is where I took it. They told me to try tipping the lawnmower on the side, drain all the gas and put in fresh gas. That didn't work. I picked it up today and they charged me $133 and said it wasn't covered under warranty. This has a two year warranty so I should not have paid a penny. Companies that do not back up the products they sell are not worth my business and do not deserve my money. I am a long time supporter of the local hardware but this just pushed me to the big box stores. read more

For every kind of project I have had or with help needed with specific parts or drills, he has provided excellent guidance. He is kind, warm, and listens carefully to what I need and even seeks more guidance from other staff to get a second opinion. Came in last Sunday and Was told to come on Monday to fix a chipped key. Came in on Monday and was told to come back before 4:30pm so that they contact Duracell to change a chip code on the keys. Came back and told that staffing was short and with only 3 employees working. Told to comeback earlier in the day. We just came back this morning at 8:30 and was told to come back at noon. That's when they were expecting staff to fix a digital car key. We came back at noon our FOURTH ATTEMPT and we also took the day off work to do this today. They don't have people available til next Monday. Ace hard ware is the only business that offers digital key replacements outside of the dealership. The only redeeming spot of this place is an employee named Sam (male in his 20s) who tried to work with us on Monday but was not here today. I would not recommend this business to anyone as they are habitually understaffed. I regret that a quality worker like Sam has to work here and I would recommend to him to leave. The owners need to have better staffing. I will not be spending any more time or money at this ace hardware and I couldn't recommend it less. I hope they get better and win over other people. Yet again I was disappointed with this trip to Ace. Came in to rent a carpet cleaner because Bartells recommended them since they stopped carrying them. It only happens every so often I need to rent one, and the clerk Laura was very helpful in getting me set up with the machine. We didn't do a cleanliness and parts check before I took the machine though and now I'm regretting it. Just returned it. I cleaned it out with soap and water, and took a damp rag and cleaned out the bristles of all the pet hair, dirt, etc until it looked good. Apparently that wasn't good enough for Mabel, the associate taking the return back. She and another gentleman opened up the unit and found a couple small pieces of hair in a filter, which they just pulled out. No big deal. Then she flipped it over to the brush/bristles. I thought it looked good, but she saw some old dried hair in a roller and some "sand" as she called it, in the bristles. She told me I needed to clean it more, right there in the store and I was handed a roll of paper towels. This is unacceptable to me. Not only could it have embarrassed another customer (luckily I don't get embarrassed), but she ordered I clean stuff out of the rollers that didn't even match the hair color of my pets, and was dried in there like it was ancient. I said I didn't think it was my mess to clean, and I told them they needed to do pre-rental checks so people don't get stuck cleaning up other people's messes like I did because that wasn't fair to me, and Mabel just said "hmm". I figured the first time I was disappointed by an employee there it was just a fluke, but apparently they've got a habit of hiring people who put customer service on the back burner because they're too lazy to do stuff themselves. Not that I'll need another rental but someone needs to fix that. Do pre-rental checks like every other company to avoid these problems. read more

I needed an LED light keeper pro tool to troubleshoot my LED light string. The Ace website indicated that there was a tool at this location. I first called to verify but no one answered and I was sent me to voicemail. So I drove to the location and found they did not have the tool; they called it a close-out item when this is a steadfast tool for LED light string troubleshooting. It will not be going away. Very disappointed that they can't keep their inventory accurate. In this day of Amazon you have to be doing better to keep your customers shopping locally. read more

Worst customer service ever!!!!! I rented a carpet cleaning machine that had a faulty seal and leaked water/solution constantly. When returning the item, I was met with dismissive behavior that took on a rude and aggressive nature when I tried to point out the problem. I spoke with a very respectful manager the next day, who said the staff/equipment would be more closely monitored. Hope so. read more

I have someone sick at home and am trying to not go into any stores. I tried to order a product online but it wasn't listed. Went to the store to request to pay for it over the phone (the product was sitting right outside the door--a local mulch). They flat refused to be flexible at all. This is the only store I've found in the pandemic that wasn't totally glad to be supportive and helpful. Then went to another Ace (Lake Forest Park) where they were very happy to help. This is a rather small store with limited selection. Custom service is hit or miss, as you usually get a kid from high school with no idea what you need or where to look, but sometimes will get someone with a clue. They are never open during holidays, which is fine except they never post notices about it on their website. Worse of all, I had a situation where I was returning an unused shower cartridge just a few days over their 60 day return policy and they wouldn't take it - no wiggle room on this policy. Exceeds all expectations! It an era of the dying art of customer service, one staff member in particular at the MLT Ace exceeded above and beyond. I took my window screens to be repaired at about 4 pm today and upon walking in with them in my hand and directed by a cashier (sorry I didn't get your name) to go to the back counter where someone she would page would meet me. I chatted with a very nice and pleasant staff member named Thor. He was the one to tell me pricing and when the screens would be ready (it'll probably be tomorrow, but no more than a week). I told him "that's more than fine", etc. etc. Around 6 pm, I was telling my spouse how nice the staff were when I get a call on my cell saying the screens were ready for pickup. Amazing! This is the perfect neighborhood hardware store. I need a molly bolt, they have a molly bolt. I need some paint matched, they match it. I need them to help me figure out how in the hell to patch that hole in my wall, they help me patch it. If my toilet explodes tomorrow, they're only two minutes away with plenty of new parts to fiddle with. Plus, I love that the little True Value club card is shaped like a little tool box! read more

The Ace Hardware in Mountlake Terrace, WA located on 228th and 44th Ave W. is AWESOME. Not only is it a very clean store, large for an Ace, with lots of great selection but more importantly their staff is amazing. Paid a visit to the store and the staff was very helpful. The staff SAM and MAX were so friendly after learning my mother-in-law was shopping in the store on her 87 birthday they each went out of their way to wish her a happy birthday. I have read other reviews and I don't know what they are talking about. The service and selection is amazing for a store this size. Can't expect it to have everything the huge chain home improvement stores have. It is a neighborhood hardware store with one tenth of the space of the large competitors. Hope Sam and Max have a job for as long as they need one. read more

I would much rather prefer to shop at True Value over the big box type of hardware stores any day of the week. First it's super convenient to my house- just one traffic light! I really like that over the top helpfulness that that is always offered when you first set foot in the door. Kudo's to the free popcorn. There isn't much that's free anymore these days. I have found their prices a little higher than the big box shops, but when you need one on one assistance most of these guys and gals know their stuff, it definitely pays in the long run. The other day I spent 2 hrs looking for SS fasteners for a project I was working on. It was a bit of a daunting task as I didn't know exactly what size I needed but one of the salepeople was kind enough to show me bin after bin then was kind enough to let me go out to my truck and test fit til I found exactly what I needed. As long as I'm working on DIY projects- which is all the time; I'll continue shopping here. One gripe, I wish they stayed open a little later. read more

Today was my 4th trip to this store. I find that I come here when I can't stand the thought of going to Lowe's or Home Depot on a busy weekend or when I am just too tired. I typically go straight to one of the big stores assuming they will have everything on my list in one stop. Thinking, based on their much smaller size, that Ace will not have everything I need I just don't go very often. Well... that ends today. I have been building and planting raised garden beds for a couple of days now. This morning I needed a small list of final supplies to finish my project. Not wanting to take another trip to Home Depot I decided to try Ace. I honestly didn't expect to find the bag of sand I needed but I decided to try anyways. The second my friend and I walked in the door a young man offered his help. We asked about the sand and he walked us to the product and quickly loaded it into the cart. I was able to find everything on my list with ease. As soon as we paid for our supplies the cashier, (no one was in line behind us & there was a second cashier), actually offered to load the sand in the car for us. After giving it some thought I realized that every trip to Cedar Plaza Ace Hardware has been a great experience. Fast, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Prices seem to be on par or just a tiny higher but for the service I have always received Ave will now be my first choice. I highly recommend. read more

I've lived in the area for 25 years. My spouse and I have bought plants and other garden stuff at Ace, but it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I bothered to look at hardware there. Always figured the big boxes would serve me better. Surprise. It was like going back in time. For most of my home maintenance/repair work Ace is ideal. I can buy one screw and one nylon spacer, if that's all I need. No need to buy a ten pack or hundred pack of something. Still have to go to big boxes for large quantities/lumber and the like, but Ace has most of what I need. As others say, there are a lot of kids there, but kids have to start somewhere, and they have to learn at someone's expense. I'm happy to partner with the owners, my time and their money, to give these kids that opportunity. read more

I give them 4 stars only because they dont always have what I need. That said I always go here first before I go to home depot or Lowes because the staff is extremly helpful. They great you when you walk in and all you have to do is tell them what your looking for and they will take you to it or let you know that they dont have it. This saves me lots of time. read more

There are some very nice people that work here, this is my neighborhood store and it's very convenient. My experience with the management has not been good. They are not interested in catering to you. I won't ever try to order anything online to pick up here again, and I won't buy anything that I need a warranty on. Bait & Switch?! I called about an item that was on the 20% off list and was told it was, with the understanding that there were no quantity discount restriction applying. When I got to the store I was told that, because the item was quantity discounted apx. 3.5% that the 20% did not apply, even though I suggested they override the regular discount and give me the 20% as advertised and promised. They said there is no way to perform this override!! I'm a regular customer and believe these discounts should apply; not just for first timers coming into the store, as this sale would suggest. No mention of this sale/quantity discount restriction is mentioned in the advertisement. read more

In the past a couple times I've been waiting at the register, while 4 employees, standing in a circle, ignoring everyone because their conversation was more important than helping the people the truly pay their bills. Looked for a specific little dehumidifier here and had a tough time finding it because I suck. But my fiancee found it just when I gave up. The prices are a little higher than the big box hardware stores but the convenience of shopping at my hometown hardware store and not wasting 30 minutes navigating through a big warehouse the size of 4 football fields is a nice change. Employees are very nice, except the cashier who appeared to be a 16yr old girl on a summer job who obviously didnt want to be there. Overall, nice small neighborhood feel hardware store worth a try. Sometimes I go into this True Value just to browse paint colors or other items while my daughter is in Tae Kwon Do. They are amazing in their customer service. Ive never not been greeted when I walked in, and anytime I need something little, that I could most likely get somewhere else, screws, pumpkin carving tools etc. I try to go here just because I love the employees and their positive attitudes and customer service. I was at this store yesterday and witnessed something HORRIBLE and DISGUSTING. I was returning something at the check stand and noticed that the (clueless) checker was BLEEDING BADLY from his hand. I mentioned this to him and he pulled a dirty handkerchief out of his pocket and smearing blood around BOTH OF HIS HANDS. Evidently unaware of any safety or cleanliness precautions, he proceeded with my return and handed me my change. I had him put it in a plastic bag and ran to my car for some hand sanitizer! I then left all the money from the return on a street corner. HOW GROSS IS THAT? I just got off the phone with the manager without any offer of compensation. ICK. PLEASE WEAR SAFETY GLOVES IF YOU HAPPEN TO VISIT THIS BUSINESS. May I suggest the nearby Ace Hardware at Lake Forest Park Town Center or the Home Depot on Hwy 99 at 205th. read more

I went to this Ace hardware today to return our chainsaw which they had "repaired" for us recently. It has never worked since we got it back. The manager of the store was so incredibly rude to me. He disputed what had told him last week when he told me to bring it back in, saying we had it fixed six months ago and had probably misused it! It was taken in eight weeks ago and they had for two weeks before looking at it. It won't stay running. He suggested we may have put the wrong gas in it. I said my husband knows how to use a chain saw! I said all he needed to do was take it back in, write a ticket and tell me he'd call me. Instead he accused me of lying, argued with me about how long ago it was brought in. I said you know I wasn't upset when I came in here but I am now. I've lived in the area for 15 years and we've spent plenty of money in your store but never have I ever been spoken to like this before. I will never set foot in there again after I get this equipment back. Maybe Ace needs to have some training classes for its staff on how to treat customers respectfully, instead of being rude to them and accusing them of being liars! I would give it no stars if I could. The one is for the other employees there who have to work with this turd on a daily basis. read more

The selection is pretty limited even compared to other Ace Sores that I have been in and the customer service is not very good. The people that work there are generally nice enough it just seems that customer service is not a significant cultural value with the leadership and customer skills are not taught. Terrible customer service over the phone, and just super frickin' rude in general. This seems to be a redundant complaint for this location in particular, but as I found out today there still don't seem to be enough bad reviews written to actually resolve the problem. I called in looking for a price on a particular, very basic, item that ALL of the other hardware stores seem to carry besides ACE. Apparently this was a very exhaustive and time-consuming request, or at least that's how the newly post-pubescent man-child on the other end of the line made it seem. I get it, you don't carry the item I need, but that's all you have to say; you don't have to give me obvious attitude in a degrading tone along with it. And when I asked if they were still doing the free paint samples advertised in their commercials, you would have thought I'd just made a tasteless joke about his mother! I almost felt as if him having to tell me that this "promotion" had already ended (even though the commercials used the words "anytime" and "always" regarding when this service was available) made him genuinely angry. How DARE I call his store and ask for relevant information over the phone before driving all the way there, what kind of country do I think we live in??
