We set up a time to meet the following day. The next day Khuma texted me when he was in route and arrived on time with his assistant, They both put on shoe coverings before entering my home. After taking a look at the heater he assured me he could check several systems to find the culprit and gave me an estimate. The work was completed in about an hour. He then showed me the various systems he had checked as well as the results. He ended up placing a new valve on the overflow system. He cleaned up the work area when he was done. He also took $50.00 off the quoted estimate and charged me $200.00. I found Khuma to be polite, and concerned. The quality of the work and the knowledge he demonstrated in the type of water heater system was impressive. He even quoted the amount to replace the entire system. An old cast iron sewage pipe cracked and was leaking into my basement and had to be replaced along with connections to upstairs toilets. The next day, Rob and Jaykri came to my rescue. They did the job under their own cost proposal and at a significantly lower price than a big-name competitor's proposal. Brian moved a schedule around to fit me in and got the job done in 1 day. (The other company could not even start until 3 days later) Rob and Jaykri even fixed a couple other odd plumbing issues (shower cartridges, broken valve knobs, etc.) while they were at my house. I ran upstairs to find gushing water coming from a pipe behind the toilet. We we're able to shut off the main water valve quickly but that meant we had no water to the whole house until the busted valve was fixed. There was also leaking water coming out the ceiling and leaking into the living room below. After several calls with our different property managers, they finally sent out Kevin to help. Kevin came in, saw the child in my arms and the first thing he said was "why didn't they call me sooner if you have a child here!" and I completely agreed! Kevin got straight to work and was very open with us that the pipes in this house are polybutylene which were banded in the 90s due to many lawsuits of them bursting. Kevin let us know that he was completing a quick fix and that he is going to talk to our Property Manager directly about having the pipes in the house changed. Kevin gave us his business card and said to call him right away if we have any other problems. My fiancé and I sat down to finally relax and the crash and rushing water started again! I called Kevin straight away and he turned around and came right back! (This is all happening after 7:00pm). Kevin replaced some piping and talked us through everything he did. He even gave us advice about the drywall that was currently leaking into buckets in the living room below. Even to mention that he would come and replace part of the damaged drywall if the leaking had caused structural damage. Furthermore, he conveyed that he would be willing to to accommodate our schedules to complete the job so that we would not miss out on our daytime work hours. Kevin let us know he tried working things out with our landlord but they decided they don't want to fix the pipes. He definitely went to bat for us when we felt like our property managers weren't listening to our concerns. In the 20 years we have lived in this house the heat has never worked this well and I expect we will see some reduction in our electric usage this winter. But even more importantly, the boiler is significantly safer thanks to Doug.
