Apparently the Cedars is unaware of the pandemic sweeping the world. I was absolutely appalled at the amount of diners crowded into the inside area and staff not properly wearing masks. If I did not have a seat outside I would have immediately left and not dined here. If you are brave enough to dine here, the food was decent which is the only reason this place gets 2 stars. Crab Cakes and Trout appetizers were really good, Chowder is tasty and my wife had scallops which were solid. Skip the steaks, mine was overcooked and luckily I had some Alaskan crab legs as a side. I think the most unbelievable thing was the salad bar is open, who keeps a buffet open in a pandemic. Perhaps the Cedars should start a testing center for their diners they put at risk for not having better safety procedures in place. read more

Appetizers are worth it. Entrees arent. We ordered the crab cakes and tempura asparagus that were amazing. The crab cakes were loaded with seasoned crab meat and had a beautiful golden brown sear. The asparagus were crunchy and delicious with a tasty balsamic honey. However, the filet was disappointing. While it was cooked appropriately, it was tragically under seasoned which paralleled how the broccolini had never seen a grain of salt in their lives. Checked in for our reservation 15 min early, 40 minutes later we were seated. Another group that waited 15 minutes was offered a free appetizer right in front of us. We were just told sorry for the wait. Seems fair. The good- iced tea, smoked trout appetizer, salad bar. Not so good- sirloin steak overcooked and tissue throughout, dry baked potato, undercooked veggies. The bus boy was great and got us refills often, and also took away our dirty plates. Our dining experience tonite at the Cedars Restaurant for our wedding anniversary was very disappointing. When we were seated, we noticed water glass rings and sticky food drips on the table top like it had been only barely wiped off before being set with silverware and glasses. There were so many flies inside the restaurant that bored servers were swatting at them with a dish towel and who knows where the splats ended up. The prime rib was on the dry side and not as tender as we've had at the Cedars in the past, and the risotto rice was very overcooked. Salad bar was good in terms of variety and freshness, except for the mixed greens that were too old and starting to turn brown. However, the halibut was well seasoned and delicious. We enjoyed the tart key lime pie. Our server did an excellent job, so we can't blame him for these other deficits. And, I realize that when dining here you pay a premium for service on Lake Coeur d'Alene, but the ambiance was ruined by these negative issues. Wow, so excited to try this restaurant! Christmas Eve reservations on our honeymoon 2020, Chilean Bass, fantastic, 10 oz NY steak cooked to perfection, steamed clams for appetizer, very good! Total experience, lacking! Baked potato & steamed vegetable COLD! Wine ordered with dinner never delivered cost $175 + tip for 2. When we arrived for our reservation an elderly woman was at front desk with a young gentleman, he checked us in & she took off to check on table?? We were seated quickly, she went to the table in front of us & said she loved them no more than at least 5+ times, 2 tables behind us she greeted & spoke with them several times, we assume she was the Manager/Owner? We were never offered even $5 off our tab for cold veggies & potato or not eaten rice & asparagus due to coldness (not even warm) & not being edible even though they were advised politely by us! My husband and I went here and the view alone was amazing ! The waitstaff was quick and got everything we ordered out quickly and was knowledgeable when we asked about the menu. Beautiful view and good service. However, food was mediocre at best. Clam chowder had no flavor. Cedar plank salmon was "mushy" which is really odd. Obviously not fresh but the texture was gross. The mashed potatoes lacked flavor. The scallops were okay but needed salt and pepper to help. Even the key lime pie was disappointing. The flavor was good but It looked sloppy/messy and the plate had milky runny liquid on it. This place is expensive. Definitely not worth the price. You are paying for the view only. read more

Being a resident, The Cedars has been a top shelf restaurant for years, but gotta say it's slipped since the last time I was here, and it pains me to write this review but it needs to be done. The view is and always has been spectacular, but you pay for that. The server was great - personable, attentive & responsive. Now the bummer(s) - $alad bar = $16!!! Granted, it's all you can eat, but ya gotta eat a lot of lettuce to get 16 bucks worth because there's not a lot of stuff on it. You get the salad bar with dinner, but my wife wanted an appetizer and the salad bar. Went to the salad bar and the romaine lettuce was all brown. Come on, someone should have noticed that before me. Crab cake appetizer = 2 - 3" cakes $15. They were really good though. My 8oz sirloin (which was really dry internally) with mashed potatoes and under steamed veggies $25. 2 glasses of wine and the tip and we're out of there for a shade under a Benjamin. They used to be the hottest spot in town for really special occasions - birthdays, prom, anniversary, wedding rehearsal dinner, but I'd say, again painfully because of the gorgeous view, that they've cooled off quite a bit. I wish I could give The Cedars double the Stars! The Cedars is our go-to restaurant for any celebration. Last night it was my birthday. The staff NEVER disappoints! The food is always the best! Starting with the salad bar that is meticulously cared for and replenished, the food is always delicious. We had the Filet and Lobster last night.....steaks were perfectly cooked and the lobster was succulent. Andy, the chef, takes pride in his food...it shows! Our server, Kim, was attentive without being obtrusive. She is always one of our favorite servers. Birthdays....anniversaries....out of town visitors....the fact that it's Thursday are all reasons to go The Cedars and be completely spoiled by excellent food and perfect service. read more

Cedars Floating Restaurant stood out to us as out-of-towners this past week, so my husband and decided to give it a try. Located on the lake, the setting is quite pretty and the restaurant appearance inside was very nice. The food, however, was a different story. We ordered entrées which both came with the salad bar. Upon making our salads, I found that the croutons bowl was full of hairs. My husband had already made his salad - with croutons - so I quickly alerted him to the problem. He made another salad, sans the croutons, as did I. We also warned other guests in the salad bar line since it took the staff several minutes to replace the bowl. Oh, and the romaine lettuce was brown and nasty...we avoided that too. My husband sipped his coffee while we ate our salads and waited for the rest of our meal, which he said was terrible and never finished. We weren't off to a good start. He was going to complain, but we ended up getting caught up in the hair-in-crouton situation first and foremost, so we never got to mention the coffee. When the entrées came out, my husband's steak was rare, not cooked medium well as he had asked for. My dinner, a salmon platter, was okay...but the potato wedges were so salty that I couldn't even finish one! They were visibility COVERED in ground salt. As my husband waited for his steak to come back more cooked (the server took it back to the kitchen), he tried one of the potato wedges from my plate and also couldn't handle them. Do the cooks even taste what they are making?! We were skeptical. Our server was very apologetic and kind, but we had so many problems with our meal that we got to the point where we just stopped complaining because it was just problem after problem. It wasn't improving. Cedars needs new kitchen staff, 100%. Keep your nice servers and find people who can make a decent meal! Then maybe, you'll actually get more than 4 tables filled at dinner time. 2 stars for the nice server and the view. The view is great, but is it worth hairy, undercooked and oversalted food? Yeah, yeah, yeah, great views and what not. I can sit on the beach for a great view. I want some great food. To me, Cedars is good, but not as good as it thinks it is. A pound of steamed mussels floated in a delicious broth of garlic, butter and herbs. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious, but I like it when they're held over the broth via some sort of strainer rather than submerged. I'm a health nut, what can I say? I ordered the special which was some sort of ginger/citrus glazed halibut. The glaze was very light, which allowed the flavor of the fish to really shine through. But if you like your seasonings/sauces to really pop, you wouldn't like it. The steamed asparagus wasn't great. My favorite parts of the meal were the rice and salad bar. The rice was short-grained, naturally sweet and almost like a risotto. The salad bar was fresh with a ton of great toppings and dressings to chose from. So you may be wondering why I said it's not as good as it thinks it is when I just gave the food great reviews. Well, at $12 for the mussels and $29 for the halibut, it was a little overpriced. I've had MUCH better food that simply blew me away for cheaper prices in downtown Cleveland (thank you Michael Symon!) It would get five stars if the costs were about 2/3 what they are. I eat a plant-based diet, and I accept that not every restaurant can make accommodations. That being said, when I discussed entree options with the waiter, he was very clear that the kitchen had been able to make a vegan plate just the day prior. When the entrees for the table came out, the waiter informed me that the kitchen had prepared what was basically a bowl of green beans. It was strongly suggested that I just fix my own plate from the salad bar b/c the kitchen would not be preparing anything else for me. I get that it's up to the chef/cooks to determine whether or not to go out of their way for special requests. But the time to inform diners of this is when they place the order. Not when everyone else's food arrives. And news flash - eating a vegan diet doesn't necessarily mean we want a salad for every meal. Just like omnivores like a bit of variety and not steak at every sitting. The worst part was when the supervisor and the kitchen colluded to throw our waiter under the bus. First thing when approaching our table was to suggest there was a miscommunication between our waiter, Clayton, and the kitchen; that he had placed the order incorrectly. Then said supervisor proudly announced that she and the "chef" were engaged (as some sort of character reference I presume). Her fiance the "chef" must not believe that he is responsible for every plate coming out of his kitchen and they were quick to blame our server, without regard (or perhaps fully knowing) how that would impact his tip. Shame on the kitchen for not owning their mistake. Shame on management for letting personal relationships cloud their judgement. Shame on management for not creating a united organization among the staff. Suffice it to say I will not be coming back. read more

This landmark restaurant is located where the Spokane River enters Lake Cda. You can come by boat and tie up on the dock. Weather permitting, I choose to dine outside. Oh yeah, the food is really good as well. Aged steaks, seafood and pasta. I like the cedar plank salmon and the crusty bread they bring prior to your meal. The entire restaurant is incredibly loud, I'm paying $30+ a plate - don't make me go to a salad bar... the bus boy is reaching across the table constantly without even saying excuse me or may I. Then we ordered the Asparagus Tempura.. never had anything more disgusting, I will give them the presentation looked nice. He ordered Prime Rib and I ordered the 40 aged New York Strip- his prime rib tasted like someone cooked it three days ago and then put it in the microwave- it wasn't even warm. Mine was tough as nails and very little flavor. Both our dishes came with green beans that you needed a knife to cut, the potatoes had no flavor at all. We come here at least once a month. Always really good all around. But today was off. So they were busy, but food took forever. Server came over and apologized that there was a issue and it would be about 3 more min. We had been waiting about 30 min. Well food finally came. And she said for the inconvenience she would give us free desert. Great. We also never recieved bread and when they came over to fill our water they filled mine and left my wife's half full. Well got the bill and our 1 pcs of desert and was billed for it. Maybe they need to have 1 or 2 extra servers to make sure issues dont keep happening. Looking at other reviews and we are not the only ones that feel this way. Again great place maybe tonight was just a off night. Ok so I have to apologize we did get the desert for free. Was offered a 2 top in the middle of a noise bar area or "at the bar" with plenty of seating available in the main dining area. Went for our anniversary, while it was very romantic the 36$ ribeye steak was terrible! It was tough and over cooked. I had scallops which was tasty. So if you go here stick to the seafood and not the steaks! Walking in from the parking lot into a rustic, log cabin-styled structure, I was a bit apprehensive that this might be a touristy, lightweight place. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very good. We were a party of 4 couples - all staying at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. The courtesy van brought us over so it was a no-brainer. The menu is pretty ordinary with seafood, beef, lamb, chicken and pasta offerings at reasonable prices. My wife had the Wild Prawn Skewers ($26) and she raved about them! She loved the flavors of the seasonings and the shrimp were large and nice and plump so they had a bit of a "pop" to them when bitten. It came with wild mushroom risotto and seared green beans. She did not leave anything on her plate! I had the 10 oz. Sirloin with Alaskan King Crab Legs ($39) and I was really impressed. The beef was more tender than many NY strips I've had and it was done perfectly (medium rare) and it had a really good, beefy taste. And the crab legs were great - moist and flavorful and served with lemon and clarified butter for dipping. I was a very happy camper! The portions were plenty but it was so good, I ate all of the crab and took about half of the beef with me. And the baked potato was also good - garnished with sour cream and chives. Service was great. It's casual so don't expect refined service. It was efficient and our server was friendly, prompt and knew the menu. The other folks in our party were very happy, as well. The best feature of this restaurant are the lake views. My sister and her friend were in town so they wanted to take us out to someplace special so I recommend Cedars. I hadn't been there in a couple of years but have fond memories of the food and atmosphere. I ordered the Prime Rib medium rare and my wife and my sister's friend ordered the Filet Mignon medium with a lobster tail. My sister had the same but ordered her steak medium rare. My prime rib had the look of medium rare, but had the texture and taste of well done. It was tough and tasteless. I'd have to say it was probably the worst Prime Rib I've had at a nice restaurant. My sister's steak was very rare and my wife and sister's friend steaks were well done. The all said their lobster tails were bland an uninspiring. Overall, the dining experience was nice but the food was a disappointment. If you have friends who are from out of town that you want to impress, I'd recommend that you choose someplace different. read more

We dined at Cedars on Thursday 11/12/2020 @645pm. I had the highly recommend Prime Rib which was amazing. My wife had the Pan Seared Scallops which she said were delicious. The ambiance was comfortable yet elegant. Even though everything was awesome, the highlight was our server Ariel. Ariel was very personable and sweet. She was very attentive, helpful, and very friendly. This was the best dining experience we have had in years, largely due to our awesome server Ariel. We made reservations several weeks in advance for a group of 12. We even called the day of the dinner to confirm our reservation and special requests. We were assured everything would be set. Our table was ready but that was it. The service was terrible. I can't blame it on the server. For a Saturday in July the staffing was severly lacking. The kitchen totally screwed up several of our orders. One plate wasn't served for almost 30 minutes after the everyone else was finished. The dinning room also had a heavy smoke issue from the kitchen. Several people left or were moved upon request. We spoke to the manager who had no excuse. It was very apparent management and staffing was wasn't really important ownership. I had been here several years ago. Great food, good service and of course great view. The view is still there through the smokey kitchen. But thats it... I hope they wake up. From the looks of the comments we aren't the lone complaint. read more

This place use to be great. We live close by and went here often, very often. However, my last 2 visits have left me less then impressed. The current wait staff seem to have little interest in their jobs or the customers satisfaction. We went for our anniversary and for dessert I ordered berry sorbet. First, the waitress told me she didn't think they had any. When I asked her if she could check she reluctantly did. They had sorbet and I ordered the berry. She brought me lemon. While we waited 15-20 minutes for a scoop of berry, my husbands mud pie sat melting. Finally it arrives and it is covered in whip cream. Really??? I specifically order sorbet because I can't eat dairy. The waitress continued to be rude and tried to tell me the sorbet always comes with whipped cream. Ummm, no. I have had it dozen of times here and it has never come with whipped cream. The lemon had no whip cream, the menu description does not say it comes with whip cream and the dessert photo on the menu does not show whip cream. At this point I just cancel my order. The reason why it got a one star was that we went there with a party of 7 and the acoustics in the room were so bad that you could not hear the person sitting across the table from you. We kept having to yell to be heard and even with that we were still only able to hear about half of what people were saying. We all ordered cocktails from the list which had no prices thinking they would be $5 - $10 but ohhh noooo... We found out when the bill came they were $17 to $20!!! Were we suppose to keep the glasses?
