We made upstairs dinner reservations at Central Bodega. The restaurant was clean and swanky. Armando (I think was his name) took care of us for the evening, and he had some fantastic cocktail recommendations, on and off the formal menu. He works every evening upstairs. Each drink was fantastic and clearly shown love. Food came out relatively quick and water cups stayed topped off for entirety of our visit. We ordered the steak frites and roasted chicken--both were perfectly cooked. The total for the night was more expensive than the average Albuquerque restaurant, but in this economy, everything is pricey, and the value for what you pay here is well worth it. read more

First the Bodega is a great place for brunch. The music, the decor fantastic!! The service was wonderful, the servers attentively watched my water and coffee and made sure they were topped off. Four of us had brunch today to celebrate my birthday. The food was disappointing. I had the waffle sandwich and the some of the prosciutto was tough. My sister had the Spaniard and sandwich was soggy with a big chunk of chicken inside and tough to eat. My brother-in-law had the Monte Christo sandwich, a bit greasy though it is fried per the menu description. My husband had the Dutch Baby, which seemed to be these of the 4 entrees. The French Fries, or frites as named on the menu served with each entree except the Dutch Baby were warm and limp. Our meal was slow to be served most likely due to the table of 10 or so seated in the same upstairs. Service was good but we won't be back. Me & my boyfriend got to the restaurant 30 minutes earlier than our reservation time for dinner & they accommodated us to a downstairs table, which was so nice! We shared a European Gatorade which was definitely on the sweeter side - just how I like it. We shared a smoked salmon spread appetizer on toast, it was delicious and rich. For main courses, I got the Spanish Mussels and fries and later realized I should've gotten the grilled bread instead to complement the tomato sauce. The first time I came here I got a black oolong tea. After recognizing the host, I tried coming back but each time I opened the door I was yelled at and told "we're not open". It was a Wednesday. Nonetheless, the next time I came here was with a coworker and I ordered the beet hummus and veggies platter to go. It was delicious! I should've asked for the hummus on the side since it was hard to scrape from the bottom without leaving some left behind for the trash can. Overall, the bread and whipped butter was delicious. This is the one of the best places I have eaten in Albuquerque. Quality and service is sadly poor at most places in this city, while this place is in competition for the top spot. The ambience was very comfortable. Our server checked in on us quite regularly, which is something lacking at nearly every other "high-class" restaurant in town that I have visited. Each ingredient in the food was obviously sourced either locally or from a high-quality provider. We tried two different Benedicts for Sunday brunch. Made reservations paid the $45 I was specific in saying he was 13 yoa- when seated the bartender told waitress we are not supposed to sit at the bar as per NM Law. I spoke up and showed my reservation and the message explaining he was 13- ultimately, instead of staff finding us another place to sit some patrons offered to change seats with us. Super nice couple, I bought them a drink- staff forgot...we couldn't see the parade, my son ordered the bone marrow for his appetizer of course they were out. The place was quiet when I went in which was very nice, surprisingly not busy for the lunch rush but not exactly that kind of place, visited during a lunch break, employee's and manager were both very nice and even gave me a recommendation on what to order! I got "the cheesy one" with bacon and prosciutto, and by gods it was amazing, i dont think i can make a sandwich better than that, it was tasty very flavorful and very cheesy, i was definitely pleased with my experience and will definitely be visiting again soon read more

Disappointed. Lunch menu was limited. Whipped feta was great, spicy cucumbers so-so and a small serving. Had the rocket salad with chicken added. Salad dressing was meh and chicken was dry and bland. $22 was excessive for this bland entree. My companion had a caesar salad that she found tasteless. Brought it up to wait person who brought her more dressing which did not fix it. They should have offered to replace it with something else. Seriously $135 with tip for lackluster lunch for four? -DOWNSTAIRS SEATING AREA IS EXTREMELY LOUD!!!!!!- Come for the whipped feta, leave right after. The whipped feta appetizer is absolutely amazing. Second is the Coccoli, however the night I was served the dish, it was in need of flavor, at the bare minimum, salt. Onto the entrées . Ordered Steak frites, steak med rare. Food was delivered, waiter never asked if the steak was cooked correctly. It wasn't, it was WELL done. The butter that accompanied the steak was extremely salty, making the steak inedible. They only serve ketchup with the fries, that are also overly salty! The BIGGEST take away is that the restaurant is extremely LOUD, so much so that I could barely hear my partner sitting directly across from me, it was only 5pm and still half empty! read more

My sweetheart (she's gooder than chocolate cake) & I dropped in one night last week, spur of the moment. The place was packed, but we got lucky with a two-topper upstairs. First let me say it was bittersweet being in what used to be Hey Johnny. Bitter, 'cause, hey, HJ was all style in a town sorely in need of style. Sweet, because the new place is filling that sorely needed need. The look of the place & its vibe is high style! The fabulous whipped feta is a tell--it's a tip that there's a culinary vision at work. Paired with a tumbler of olives, a classic Old Fashion (hers) and a perfectly balanced Negroni (mine), the small bite play was perfect. With the beautiful interior design (she loves the chandeliers) and stylish appetizers, we were off to great start. As this was my first visit, I wanted to start with a baseline, & so I settled on the Bucatini All'Amatriciana, with a Rocket on the side. The arugula plate was generous, and the pickled red onion & champagne vinaigrette were worth dying for (well, sorta, as death is such a big deal). The pasta was spot on--just a bit over al dente, and the saucing was just right. It is a strange law of the kitchen that the simplest dishes can be the hardest to get just right. Last week the bucatini was perfectly executed. It served by purpose in testing the baseline. I'm now looking forward to returning & giving another main dish a try. The booze offering is short & sweet & hits all the right notes. Our two classic cocktails were well made. The beer selection covers the front. There's a saki list, but I stayed away on this first visit--I'll save that adventure for another day. Central Bodega, in short, shows a ton of promise, and will deliver, if it stays true to what I experience last week, 20 days or so after the restaurant's launch. The greeter downstairs were gracious. The rocket salad supposedly made with roasted beets and goat cheese ended up being just a mound of arugula ( obviously straight from the plastic carton it came in) with a few tiny pieces of beets and 2 very small balls of goat cheese- the pistachio coated cheese was gross and did not taste like pistachio or cheese - the ambience was loud-unpleasant experience. read more

My first visit was disappointing. I ordered the turkey club sandwich which was cold sliced turkey roll not real turkey. For the price. I expected real turkey. I also tried the daily soup which was just OK, not fabulous. After reading all the wonderful reviews I was expecting perfection, it was not. It was also very chilly in the restaurant. I understand it's cold outside, but you would think they could turn up the heat for their customers. It is a lovely restaurant, and the service was great. Have been twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. Central Bodega has some undeniable high points and some indefensible low points. The ambiance is great. Someone's clearly put a ton of money into this place, and never skimped on the cheaper tile options. But they did skimp on ordering menus from the printer, because those were quite hard to come by and if you get one it won't be long until a waiter asks you if you're done with it so they can take it to another table. The cocktails are good. The lunch sandwiches were tasty enough. The rocket salad sounded great, but was completely disappointing; a tier below something from the Whole Foods salad bar. The salmon dinner entree was just ok. Could not try the mussels because they were already sold out, even though this was early in the weekend. We were told they usually sell out pretty early in the week as they only order so many pounds. We asked why they don't order more and were told the restaurant didn't want to order more than they might sell. Mussels are a large share of their menu, so this seemed like an odd cost cutting choice. The steak frites was quality meat but served overdone. The medium order came out medium well. The medium rare order came out medium. The crudo and shrimp cocktails were both super. But the "baguette," which does not simply come out with the water but must be ordered for $6, was not a baguette at all, but something closer to sliced up hot dog buns. Soft cold white bread, straight from the Bimbo factory or the dinner roll basket at your Aunt Betty's thanksgiving dinner. Hawaiian rolls from Albertsons kind of bread. Serving it at all, let alone with olive oil (!), is just bizarre. The only explanation I can imagine ties back to the mussels. This is the sort of highly processed bread which, unlike a real baguette, will stay soft for weeks. So I'm guessing the owners are serving (and re-serving) this to save money? It's so strange. In a place that does some things so right, the things they get wrong stick out like sore thumbs. read more
