Alright, so anyone who knows me, knows of my love of a good Po-Boy.. The quintessential New Orleans cuisine, this not to be missed delicacy never ceases to excite the palate and senses. And my go-to Po-Boy is the Ham and Roast Beef with Debris Gravy, fully dressed of course, often called "The Fergie". My first time at Central Poboys and I ordered my favorite. The 12" Fergie, dressed like I love it. And this one did NOT disappoint. It arrived in all of its overstuffed glory. Brimming with what can only be described as a very generous portion of both Ham and Roast beef, gravy and Swiss Cheese. The gravy, was almost the best I've had and the bread was the perfect ratio of absorbency and slight snap to the crust. The dressing of lettuce, tomato and May was not so much that they overtook the show, but merely accentuated the experience. I ate half for lunch that day, and could eat no more. Had the other half the next lunch and was equally stuffed. My associate had the Sausage po-Boy and the sausage was sublime, slightly smoky, great texture and very filling as well. I will defiantly be going here for a Po-Boy in my near future. Hell, I may even become a regular. Give these folks a try, and I am certain that you too will be singing their praises. Was in this area of town and had a hankering for a poboy soooo Whatdya do... hop on yelp and look around. Poof this place popped up. I ordered the hot sausage and gator sausage poboys with a side of some potato salad. Potato salad was pretty good and the gator sausage wasn't bad but a little tough in comparison to other gator sausage I've had. The hot sausage poboy was spot on just needed pickles. I asked for fully dressed so I'm guessing pickle is not a part of their fully dressed line up. Not a deal breaker though, it was still good. Service was good and everyone was friendly. Bourbon glazed pork chops with jalapeño cheese grits was on the special and I caught a glimpse on the way and let me just say those suckers looked thick and juicy. This was my first visit to the restaurant after passing it tons of times. A co-worker said that the food was good here so I was expecting something great. I ordered the fried fish with angel hair pasta and crawfish sauce. There was absolutely no flavor to the fish or the sauce. It was missing seasoning. The service was awesome. My drink was refilled timely. The macaroni and cheese looked better than what I got so I will try that next time. read more

I got a half oyster half shrimp poboy. The oysters were flash fried so they were still plump and juicy. Shrimp side was also light and fried just right. Both oyster and shrimp had lots of goodness. Very good poboy! Note- I asked for Roastbeef gravey on the side, seemes a bit greasy so stick with the fried food or specials of the day looked big and good. read more

I went in here about a week ago so and it was my first time I was ever in here and it's never crowded which is a plus. The fried fish in the cream sauce with angel hair pasta is absolutely delicious!! The seafood gumbo was also very good and very flavorful. The onion rings are not your typical onion rings that are very thin and crispy onion rings. All in all everything was good and I will definitely go back in again. I had lunch with my MFG Rep at this location and all I can say if you go for lunch get there early. Small place and it fills up quickly. Since I travel a lot I try to watch what I eat and while I wanted the gator bites po'boy, I knew better. I did have the shrimp salad. There were so many shrimp on my plate they were falling off the plate. The price is great and the wait staff is awesome. I hope to get back to the area soon to work with my rep so I can get back to this place to eat. It is now bookmarked so I will know where to go. read more

Tastes like you have a grandmother in the back cooking for you. Unpretentious, perfectly executed dishes with amazing specials every day, from Italian to gator sausage to pecan cheesecake. Their absurdly cheap, absurdly big (and absurdly delicious) debris burger has to be the best deal in all of the New Orleans area. read more

You know how you go to a place once, have a bad experience and never wanna go back? Well that happened to me with this place a few years back. I love a good shrimp Po boy, but when I got theirs it was not good. So here we are a few years later I'm at home which is not far from the location by the way, craving for shrimp Po boy. I look on yelp and read some reviews and it seems pretty good, nothing which I remember. But I said what the hell and decided to give them another try. I am so happy I did! The po boy is delicious. Very big. Huge shrimp. Great customer service. Overall I'm super excited and I definitely will be returning back to this establishment. I suggest you go if you're in the area. read more

Can't beat the service! The owner waited on us at the bar and was very nice. Waitress came to check on us a few times and made us laugh. Cook/dishwasher was friendly as well! Food was excellent! Fresh and tasty and the prices weren't bad either! Free dessert Fridays might not be good for your health but I'm not complaining! Don't let the area fool you either, I know this end of central might be scary and if it weren't for a car issue we never would have stopped but this place is not what it seems! I had one of the daily lunches. It was 'Des Allemands' fried catfish. It came with potato salad and a small green salad. I could not taste the catfish. There was a taste of seemingly old cooking oil. It left a really bad taste in my mouth. I've eaten Des Allemands catfish many times. Des Allemands fried catfish never tasted like that. I called the restaurant and informed the lady who answered that there was an old cooking oil taste and that I did not taste the fried catfish. She simply stated, "ok". In a nondescript building on a nondescript stretch of road off of Jefferson Highway, days-old Central Poboys may go unnoticed. If you make it through the front door, you might still be taken aback by the odd inherited decor. The inside looks like the outside of a ramshackle hut, and it's not immediately obvious what the heck you're supposed to do upon entering. In fact, while my wife and I were putting ourselves in a poboy coma, a young family walked in, looked around with confused expressions, and walked right back out; because of the odd wall between the door and the order desk, the cashier didn't have the opportunity to invite them in because she couldn't see them. But I insist that you owe your mouth and stomach the time and attention. Anyhow, the important part. My 12" hot sausage poboy was closer to 16", and was perfectly dressed with just enough mayo, lettuce and tomato. There was what seemed like a pound of griddle-finished hot sausage patties on the *perfect* French bread (those who know, know). My wife's shrimp poboy was piled high with clean, succulent, large shrimp fried as perfectly as I've ever had them. The roast beef debris on top of our shared cheese fries carried just the right notes of salty and savory. And free souvenir go cups! Next time I've got my eye on the Veal Parmesan. read more

Very very disappointed. I work at the school down the block from this restaurant and try to eat here frequently. The first time I was disappointed was with the crawfish nachos. There were about three crawfish tails on the entire plate. But whatever. Life happens. Today my assistant and I ordered lunch to try it again. The food was wonderful. Towards the end of our debris fries a hair was found mixed in. When I spoke to the restaurant about it, the owner demanded I bring the plate of food back that was already partially consumed and thrown away to receive a refund. As a teacher I have one lunch break and a busy schedule. That's not an option. Here's a picture as proof since that's what the owners seemed to require to make this right. One of my regular spots. The service is always good, and so is the food. I like the debris fries, the soup de jour, the burgers, poboys, and some of their blue plate specials such as the chicken parm. My mom really likes their trout and soft shell crab specials. My one tip is to come in really hungry because the portions are very generous. I only eat once a day so it works for me, but if you had breakfast, you'll be taking some of it home with you. read more

WOW - is the best way to describe this place. The food is always delicious and the staff always friendly. They have all the standard dishes you would expect from a local diner; but there is always something new on the menu. I always choose the new dishes; because they are always fantastic. Came upon this place on Friday and much to my surprise, the food and service was excellent. There were at least six daily specials that day. I ordered the seafood stuffed bell pepper and baked mac and cheese. When my plate arrived, I was so shocked to see 2 large stuffed peppers on my plate. This food is quality, tasty, and real. Nothing frozen about this lunch. My husband ordered angel hair pasta covered in a creamy sauce topped with fried catfish. We also received salads with this meal. Wow.. Just had a really great tasting shrimp poboy from here. Modest little place around 5pm. Didnt even know this place existed until a friend recommended rmtheir shrimp sandwich very highly. I mean really high. I walked away pretty impressed and have to say besides being packaged with love and freshness, it was an overstuffed shrimp sandwich. Thoroughly impressed with the number of shrimp piled high. Hadnt seen that since the 80's. The toasted bread had great flavor and a good pull. Had a shrimp poyboy on St Charles Ave yesterday and the bread had the consistency of a hot dog bun. The tartar sause was made fresh too. Oh so good. Some restaurants think tartar can last for days in those plastic containers. So nice to see fresh tarter sauce. This by far better sandwich than you get from those New Orleans tradition places. Service was horrible. Took a long time to get order in and then it took FOREVER to get food. A tabletop of 8 came in about 15 mins after us. They appeared to know all the employees and were served their food before us. We were a table of 3. Two shrimp poboys, roast beef poboy, one order of onions rings and fries. The food was excellent and the customer service outstanding! The food was fresh, homemade, and just down-right delicious southern dishes. Great portions (everyone stuffed by the end of the meal and there were "some" leftovers), variety of different foods (pastas, pot roast, stewed chicken was our choices) and the Cannoli Cheesecake was RIDICULOUS! This place is around the corner from me, and I had a great first-time experience. The workers there were really nice. The 12-inch roast beef po' boy I got was massive as others mentioned here. The price was great -- po' boys are much more expensive the closer you get to the city. The meat was very juicy and tender and seemed of good quality but did need some more flavor. I wish they did some sort of rub or added some more spice. It was a take-out order though, and I added some when I got home. The french bread they use is probably the best of the po' boys I have had. It doesn't scrape the top of your mouth. Their sweet potato fries were also delicious. I recommend checking this place out. I hope the discrete location doesn't hurt them, but when I drive past at lunchtime it usually looks pretty busy! read more

Great place to eat; however, I do have one gripe: hamburgers are frozen, not fresh. Confirmed by the servers too. Having said that, I will say that the hamburger steak is great and is fresh.
