I've hated my bedroom carpet for 10 years and finally decided to ditch it. Because I can't match the living room floors (Mohawk discontinued what I had in there), and the rooms are right next to each other, I decided to redo my living room floors, too, so everything would match. I went with LVP for both. Tom (the son) came out and measured, and he gave me a variety of quotes for different scenarios (living room + bedroom, living room + bedroom + hallway + kitchen +bathroom when I was briefly considering doing floors throughout my entire condo). I got quotes from multiple local flooring companies and installers, and ultimately decided to go with Central Rug based on the pricing, a recommendation from a neighbor who recently used them, and the convenience of not having to acquire the floors myself. (One other installer was less expensive, but I would've had to do all the ordering and take delivery of pallets, which was a no-go for me). Tom and everyone in the store were super nice. I took home several samples several times as I tried to figure out what I wanted, and they were very accommodating. Once I found what I wanted, which took a few weeks because I'm indecisive, it was easy to get things ordered and set up. There was a slight scheduling issue with the contractors they used for the install -- they thought it was supposed to all be one day job instead of two half days. (I needed the two days to move things around because my place is small, so I basically had to move everything into the living room when they did the bedroom and vice versa, so it couldn't have been a one-day job). Originally it was supposed to be a Thursday/Friday install, but when they came on Thursday they said they weren't available on Friday so they came Saturday instead. That actually worked out better for me because it gave me more time to get things cleaned and moved around. But, I had arranged my work schedule on Friday to be able to be able to accommodate the flooring install. If my work was less flexible and I had used PTO and then not been able to have the install done that day, I would've been annoyed lol. It all worked out though. The installer duo was also very nice and efficient -- they took maybe 2.5 hours per room from start to finish. My building also has a "no construction before 9am" policy on Saturdays, so they were extra quiet between their arrival around 8:15am and 9am. I didn't realize that they don't caulk the baseboard/quarter-round until I happened to ask about it when they did the living room. They kindly did so for me, but because they hadn't in the bedroom, I had to go out and buy caulk and DIY it -- they said they usually don't do it because they let the painters take care of it, but because I'm not painting my rooms that wasn't part of my plan. I was able to caulk it easily enough and fill in the holes from the nail gun in the quarter-round with spackle -- not a big deal, but just something to be aware of so you can plan accordingly! I would absolutely use Central Rug and Floor again, but I would just confirm and double check the installation schedule the day or two beforehand. read more

My wife and looked for a small amount of engineered hardwood flooring (200 sqr. ft) for our kitchen rehab project. (got mold from water damage - courtesy of the unit above us...) We wanted Kahrs flooring, and we were pointed out to Central Rug and Floors here in Evanston. Our sales person was Peter Barnett who was very professional, and did not try to sell us anything we did not need! He was very informative, and helpful. We ended up buying the floors that we wanted, at a good price (we researched...) and with a good service. I was thinking about it later - I am sure that Peter had bigger sales in his career, however he treated us as if we are buying for a 10,000 sqr ft mansion. I would not give them more than one third down , they keep you waiting and are not good at keeping you posted on status. We used them several years ago for a good sized carpeting job and had a good experience. Our recent experience took much longer than quoted to get completed and we had to call several times. We also were not happy about a price increase added for a service that we felt was somewhat dubious. I suggest that you get a competitive bid and before signing for any installation job and that you get a firm written estimate with fixed delivery date. Our recent job was a small ($500-700) job. I'm done trying.... I've tried for the past 2-weeks to give Central Rug & Flooring a simple 30-minute job (at their minimum price), but apparently I'm not worth their time. Wanting to support a local business, I decided to give Central Rug & Flooring a call 2-weeks ago regarding stretching and tacking down some carpeting around a new tile entryway we had put in. The guy I spoke on the phone informed me that they have a minimum charge of $195 to come out, which was fine with me, I just wanted it done. This was on a Thursday, we setup a time for the installer to come out and DO THE WORK on Monday. Monday came around and the installer came out, but I was then informed that he was told to just look at the job and not to actually do it, which is different than what I discussed on the phone on Thursday. So after taking a day off of work to make sure this got done, the installer was here for 30 seconds before leaving, saying that someone would call me to setup an appointment to actually do the work... Nobody called, I had to call them and find out what was going on, and again, they had no idea and said they would call back. When they finally called back they said they could have an installer come out the next day, but I couldn't take another day off of work. The guy on the phone then asked if I worked every day, and what about Saturdays. I said I didn't work Saturdays, but then he informed me "well, I'm not saying we'd be able to come on a Saturday, but let me figure this out and I'll call you back". That was last Monday and I hadn't heard anything from them since. I finally called back today, at 9:30am, since I just want to get this over and done with and explained to the guy on the phone what the issue was. He took my name and number and said he'd look into what happened and call me back. It's now 7PM and I'm just assuming they closed and aren't going to be calling me, so I'm done. I understand that this isn't the full carpet installation job that they probably wanted, but you'd think they'd at least call me back. I even agreed to pay their minimum fee just to have it done, even though the installer told me it would only take 30 minutes to complete. I'm taking my business elsewhere and will never recommend anyone to use this company, which is unfortunate because I like supporting local businesses. But the way this whole situation has been handled just doesn't warrant any more effort on my part. read more

I visited three carpet stores to obtain estimates for new carpeting in two bedrooms. Central Rug was the middle estimate, just slightly above the lowest priced estimate. Their price included removal and disposal of the old carpet which was not included in the other two estimates. I chose new carpet from their selection of in-stock carpets. Tom Jr. came to my home to measure the two bedrooms and one week later I had beautiful new carpeting. Their installer was fast and efficient. My only suggestion would be for their sales staff do a follow-up phone call to be certain their customers are satisfied. I highly recommend Central Rug and would definitely use them again. read more

I had a 4' x 6' synthetic rug cleaned at Central Rug & Carpet for $36. Normally they charge ~$45 for this service (based on the quotes I received from several rug companies, this price is about average), but they just happened to have a sale for 20% off at the time. The carpet came back much cleaner, although some of the stains remained in a fainter form. The carpet also acquired 1 minor snag during the cleaning process, but I fixed that problem by cutting off the lose thread. Overall, I'm pleased with how it turned out. I was told I would receive my rug in 7-10 business days, and they took exactly 10 business days to finish the job. However, I suspect that if I hadn't given them a hard deadline, they might have taken more time. If you decide to bring your rug here, I recommend giving them 2-3 weeks to do their job. This business seems to do a large portion of their bookkeeping on paper. When I arrived at their store to pick up my rug, it took them 15 minutes to find where they had filed my paperwork. In addition to cleaning services, this place sells area rugs, carpet, and hardwood floors. read more

Not only did Central Rug give me the best price but the updates on delivery and installation were terrific. I can't say enough about the installers sent to my home yesterday. Anyway, it looks the way it looked when I got it and I didn't pay much for the service. Had the best experience with Jerry! He came to give me a quote and talked me out of changing the carpets in 2 of my rooms because he said they were beautiful and just needed to be cleaned. He was super honest and said, I'll sell you new carpets if you want, but you don't need them! I had them install a runner on my stairs and the whole process was very seamless and timely. DO NOT GET YOUR RUGS CLEANED BY CENTRAL RUG! My story began on Jan 11, 2018 when Central Rug came to pick up my 6 month old area rug. As they were leaving my house with the rug, the crew bashed into my front door w/the rug breaking my window blind. Central Rug did reimburse me for the blind, but I had to go through the hassle of ordering a new one and having it installed. Fast forward two weeks later when my rug is returned. It is now SHRUNK -- a good several inches smaller than my rug pad. Central Rug takes my rug back to "work on it" to get it back to it's correct size. This is where the frustration really begins. Several weeks go by without any updates from Central Rug on the progress (or lack thereof) that they've made with the rug. If you encounter someone named "JERRY", avoid. Even though Central Rug was at fault, I had to hunt them down for updates. They essentially held my rug hostage. Finally on 3/21/18 (almost 2.5 months after my rug was picked up), my rug has been returned in "almost" the same condition that it was when it got picked up. During this entire process, I found out that Central Rug is OUTSOURCING their rug cleaning. They aren't even doing this work themselves! From their website "Since 1925, Central Rug and Floors has been offering the finest quality residential and commercial cleaning services available. We specialize in wall to wall carpet, furniture, and area rugs. Unlike many other cleaning companies, we have our own in house crews, and operate our own service vans. We are also one of the few remaining companies operating an on sight area rug cleaning plant." LIES! You will absolutely regret using Central Rug for cleaning. I wasn't a fan when I originally tried to schedule my basement padding and re-install of carpet after some water. I had a hard time nailing them down on time when they were going to show up. BUT JERRY to the rescue. I needed it down before I was leaving town and coming home to a big party and he got it done and called to check up on it that day. the installer was courteous, efficient and FAST. "Dustless" sanding, floor refinishing, small project, about $600, estimated time 1.5 days The store took 6 days to return my call. They sent the rep to the wrong address. The rep emailed the estimate to me but did not acknowledge my emailed response accepting his bid. I called when I did not hear from them and he said he doesn't read his email, mostly deletes it. But he emailed the estimate! The workers rushed the job, in and out in 5 hours, including time for lunch, not even a full day. It was easy to see why they were so quick: they did not do a thorough job. They sanded but did not finish the area under the refrigerator. They left stains and drips under it and had to be called back to finish it and to move some furniture back into place. I ended up moving the refrig back by myself. The workers took the cover off the fuse box and did not put it back. The store was nice when I called to say that the area under the refrig had not been done, even embarrassed, and they got the workers back. Sure, everybody was friendly, but it was frustrating and disappointing. I would not recommend them. Maybe because this was a small job they didn't give me the 5-star service treatment. I will not go back to them for anything else or recommend them. I am reminded that when they cleaned an area rug for me a few years ago I had to take it back to have it recleaned. I should have remembered that experience. Nice, friendly, but inefficient, and the subcontractor they used for my job was not reliable. read more

Awfull place. Smells like old cigars and mothballs. Went in there a year ago to inquire about a rug cleaning & was greeted by an over aggressive sales person named Jerry, insisting on me buying an old, over priced, hanging rug that smelled worse than the one I was asking to have cleaned. Price was cheap on the cleaning, but I found out why. I drove around the building and saw a group of guys vacuuming a rug in the parking lot. If that is what their version of cleaning was, I could do better myself with a clothes line and a beater. Don't waste your time or money with these people. Central Rug did a great job with our carpet order and installation. We had new carpeting in the basement, and stairs. George worked with me on price and helped me pick out the smartest choice for my family without looking cheap - we have 2 young boys. Don't be fooled by the dark retail space. They carry very high quality products. I stopped by Apelian too, which has nicer lighting, which makes everything seem cleaner and newer. But they weren't as helpful. Installment was a breeze and I was left with some remnants that I'm having bound there as small area rugs - very good prices. I also went back to get another area rug pad and they cut it on the spot and gave it to me free of charge. It's definitely more convenient to shop local and they make it worth it. We've had several rugs cleaned here and they always cleaned them swiftly, and on time. I've never had to wait for more than a week to get a rug back, even during their annual rug cleaning sale....which is a good deal. Two of our rugs are valuable rugs, which they pointed out to us, and they took extra good care with those. One rug had been peed on by our cat, and they did their best to remove the smell and stain. They got the stain out, but warned us that once a cat pees on a rug, it is hard to stop it from happening agian. They were right, alas. read more

Used them 5 years ago with great results. This time it was a disappointing disaster. We spent $22,000 on carpet. One carpet alone was $86 a SQFT. We talked to them about how the pattern should be placed in the room even had a picture. They put it in the wrong way and when we pointed that out they said "well you should have been watching the workers". Next they installed a stair runner out of the same carpet the installer broke a piece of artwork and decided instead of telling us to glue it back together. We only found out after it crashed to the floor that night and due to the glue used the piece is unfix able. Now the runner on the staircase is FALLING off.. We had another company come out to look and they were taken back on how it was cut piece by piece and glued/tacked on we were told by the installer it was because the staircase was curved and the pattern but our other house had a staircase the same and a pattern carpet .. The carpet is less the 2 months old and falling off. Our salesman is gone and we have yet to hear back from someone as to when they will fix it. $22,000 is a lot to spend on carpet we got a $1500.00 discount but really now with this last mishap we just know this isn't going to end well. No one at these prices should be having the issues were having. read more

we purchased vinyl flooring from central rug co in evanston, we spoke to john and he promised he could do the job at a specified time and price. we had a tremendous space that needed the old floor removed and the new one laid. since this is a retirement facility we wanted this done quickly so we could get our residents back in the dining room as soon as possible. everything was done as stated and looks fabulous- we would be happy to recommend him to everyone. read more
