A beautiful spot to connect and grab a drink (NA options are stellar) Love this spot in the heart of Milwaukee for happy hour and an opportunity to connect with others. Their space is beautiful and well laid out with cozy spots in the front and bar/table seating towards the back. My visit was in winter so I did not make it to the rooftop but I've heard it's a lovely spot to be when the temps are warmer. I tried two NA drinks, the honey-bee I believe and the basil cucumber. Yum! The focaccia and olive platter is good but wasn't my favorite. I would have loved a few bread options and additional spreads. The nuts were great but a bit over salted. I've always had a great experience at Central Standard. It's definitely one of my go-tos for cocktails in the city! My hubby and I popped in for a drink before meeting a group of friends for dinner. I ordered the Carrie, which was gin-based and included white grapefruit and candied ginger. So delicious! My husband ordered the Mai-Waukee. Of course I tasted it because I too enjoy bourbon, hibiscus, lemon, pineapple, amaretto and bitters! They have beers on draft and in bottles, as well as mocktails for offer. No food on their menu, but plenty of options near by. The place itself is really cool. Distressed wood and metal rustic feels, with a large sprawling bar, and plenty of high tops. They have a big garage door as well that opens up to the street so it's nice and airy in there. At the back of the establishment is a glass wall that looks on to the machinery they distill with. Stopped by for a few cocktails with friends after a mediocre experience at Tupelo Honey. Decided on trying the rooftop patio as it was a beautiful weekend night downtown. Friends and wife ordered the Cherry Vodka Lemonade and I got the Blueberry Rye Sour, and later the brandy old-fashioned. Service was super quick, very friendly, and we found a nice four top high top with a fantastic view of downtown. Great music and an awesome vibe with a pretty full crowd ranging in age from 20's to 60's with everyone feeling like they belonged. I took a sip of the vodka lemonade and it was AWESOME! Sweet and fruity, but also very balanced. A little squeeze of fresh lemon at service would have put this over the top. The blueberry rye was tart and flavorful. As a bourbon and rye snob, I personally like my rye to have a little harder bite to it, which this one did not- struggled to taste the rye in the blueberry but not bad...if you like your booze covered up it would be a perfect choice. The brandy old-fashioned was very good! Roughly $10/cocktail, very fair prices! Our friends grabbed a bottle of the Door County Cherry Vodka on the way out, and if the Rye had been a little spicier I may have grabbed one of my own. Would absolutely come back again for the vibe and the lemonades, might order a neater whiskey cocktail to really let the product shine. Great time- totally recommend! read more

This was a really tasty meal. Each of our courses was good, the standout two were the churro French toast (with just the right amount of syrup and chocolate sauce) and an amazing hash with beef, poached eggs, and crunchy potatoes. The texture on the hash was perfect. The fries weee exceptional, but the chicken sando I would probably skip. They have a great rooftop bar too, only for drinks, and you can order downstairs and bring your drinks up before 5 pm. It seemed like a great place to spend a weekend wasting away the day, although there was really limited shade. Service was friendly and efficient :). I did have a basil gimlet cocktail, which unfortunately was much too sweet and really a tiny portion. Some of the other cocktails looked good but be aware they are mostly vodka based. read more

I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing Central Standard on Saturday, July 20th for my daughter's surprise engagement party. The rooftop is absolutely gorgeous! Madee, our bartender was fantastic! She was very helpful, quick, and knew her stuff! The drinks and the food were superb! I contacted their manager, Andrew, to let him know my thoughts. I requested the recipe for their incredible red pepper hummus. It's the best hummus I've EVER tasted! He emailed it to me within 30 minutes! My husband and I played hooky from work for our 9th wedding anniversary and decided to stop here around 1pm. We sat at the bar. The bartender (forgive me I can't remember her name) was friendly and had great recommendations for cocktails. I had the Smoked Rosemary Old Fashioned Sour after debating between that and the Apple Cider Old Fashioned and it was perfectly balanced. The smokiness from the burnt fresh Rosemary complimented their North Brandy and lessened the sweetness of the sour mix. My husband had the Classic Old Fashioned which he said, was made precisely how he likes his old fashioned, mostly liquor with a hint of sweetness. For my second cocktail I had the Basil Gimlet (I kept with an herbaceous theme apparently) which was extremely refreshing. My husband had The Patio Pounder which he liked but luckily for him, I did not as it was a tad too sweet for my tastes. The ambiance is absolutely stunning and I wish I had taken more photos, but I didn't want to seem like one of those influencer types. Excellent decor, clean, and spacious with the right amount of industrial touch. The bartender told us about the place and how there's a table made from a 100 year old tree downstairs where they do tastings. Apparently the tree had been hit by lightening and was from the Pabst mansion. I can't resist a bit of historical talk as I'm an avid history lover. We plan on coming back later in the week to enjoy some cocktails on the rooftop patio if the weather permits. The sweet potato au gratin was really delicious with hints of ginger. The friends that dined with me had the fillet and the salmon. Both enjoyed their meals. Central Standard Craft Distillery offers up an array of quality spirits and cocktails in the increasingly trendy Walker's Point. They're located right next door to Milwaukee Brewing, so our first visit here was right after a brewery tour (because, the only thing better than a beer forward brewery tour is a beer forward brewery tour followed by bourbon cocktails, amirite?). Their menu offers classic cocktails and specialty cocktails alike, as well as a dozen beers on top. My favorite cocktail is their bourbon barrel aged Manhattan. Made with their small batch bourbon whiskey, it has the loveliest hint of caramel. Typically, I'm pretty adamant about having my Manhattan served up, but I didn't specify here and it came with a block of ice. Surprisingly, that is the exact right choice for their bourbon. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Their space is large and they can get pretty busy (especially right after a tour at Milwaukee Brewing lets out). Their bar area is large and there's plenty of seating, but the service can be a little sluggish as their limited staff tries to keep up with the demands of the crowd. Beyond that, their prices are about what you'd expect to pay for upscale cocktails. They have bottle sales here as well as offer tasting tours. Get to it! read more

Sooo impressed with these cocktails! I got the Milwaukee Sour and my husband got the Barrel Aged Manhattan. Both were balanced with booze and flavors. The Milwaukee sour was particularly impressive because it is such a unique drink! They put grape foam on top of it which slowly melts into the drink to bring a bit more life to the drink. Without any experience with their product I signed up for a distillery tour through Groupon. We arrived to the bar a little early and we were greeted by a friendly bartending staff as we bellied up to the bar. The drink menu was loaded with more than I expected and showed a wide array of spirits I hadn't expected. I chose a bourbon in the rocks and my date chose a variation of a hot toddy that had a spicy honey in it (amazing by the way). The drinks were amazing, but like all good places to drink you start seeing other drinks you want to try. We asked for a sample of the coffee vodka and it was absolutely amazing (and I really dislike vodka). So then the tour started. Terrel (sorry if that's not the spelling) started the tour off promptly at the scheduled time and he launched right into a very polished delivery of the agenda. He had such and easy going manner you could tell he had not only been there for a while, he actually really liked what he does. As he took us through the company history and it's processes, we were able to learn about and taste six different spirits that the company makes. During the tour you get a sense of a distillery that puts quality in front of quantity and that comes out in their finished products. None of the drinks that we tried give you that "shudder" feeling. They were all extremely smooth and they hit your nose immediately and give you a sense of what is to come. I didn't have anything I didn't actually like. From the vodka and gin to the whiskeys everything went down nicely with a bouquet of flavors and scents. Simply put, you can't go wrong signing up for a tour. You will walk out of there with a greater appreciation for a fantastic midwestern distillery and maybe a slight buzz. read more

They age their Red Cabin Bourbon in Cabernet casks. I started with the z am Miatake Mushrooms. The jalapeño dressing is the bomb. I held onto it until I was served the focaccia & butter so I could mop it up and enjoy every last bite. I followed that with the Braised Beef. The locally farmed beef was melt in your mouth tender. My wife and I came here today and ordered some drinks. I got the Barrel Aged Manhattan and the Sidecar. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the Sidecar but to my surprise, I loved it! For someone who doesn't like sweets, the sugar rim was not overpowering due to the citrus notes of the drink itself. It was light and refreshing! The Manhattan was perfect for people who like a Manhattan's. If you're having it for the first time, this is the place you want to try it. Ultimately, it comes down to the bartender, Miranda, who was clearly knowledgeable about the ratios and combinations. She is an amazing bartender that clearly knows her shit! Visited Central Standard to check out their rooftop on a nice day, unfortunately the rooftop was closed for a private event. Bummer. We sat down inside for dinner. Their decor and the ambience was great, as were the drinks. However, the rest of the experience was just mediocre. They informed us that a couple dishes in their already limited dinner menu were out, so we had to rethink our orders. Of the remaining items, half contained beef, which I cannot eat. I asked if they would be willing to make a sandwich from their lunch menu, as they were not too busy, and that sandwich was mostly raw veggies and mozzarella (most of the veggies were already on other food items too). They refused to accommodate this request and with the limited offerings I resorted to the fries and aioli & the jalepeno soup. The fries were good but the aioli and soup were just okay. Service was a bit sporadic throughout the night, on multiple occasions we had to track someone down. The best part of the meal was the Foccacia and the butter. Overall...decent cocktails but wouldn't come back for food as they weren't super accommodating and the food itself is pricey. $40 for on drink, soup, and fries. I've been so excited for this place and left pretty disappointed, I would like to check out their rooftop and wish there was a way to see if the roof was open each evening. read more

Wonderful light filled space just outside of the third ward by literally a street crossing. Professional and knowledgeable service staff for the whiskeys. The whiskeys are good and cocktails well prepared. They have a good menu that is also nice. The sauteeed shrimp served with toasted bread to dip in the garlic sauce was really good. Central Standard was one of the very fun stops on our Pedal Tavern. I'd never been before but really enjoyed the wide open garage doors - perfect on a sunny day. And $5 Milwaukee Mules (PT special)? Heck yes! Nice staff as well. They don't serve food but there is a kiosk in the back that lets you order delivery from local places. Or just walk your drunk ass across the street to the gyro place.
