Every time we order from here it's as if they want their customers to knock a star off. Unfortunately, there is always something wrong with each order (SUPER salty tacos, forgetting to put ANY taco toppings on, not putting the sauce that goes on the side in the container despite multiple requests, getting an order wrong entirely only to find out when opening it back home an hour later, etc.). They also have issues with their telephone, and it can take up to an hour to actually get connected to someone to order on the phone. Lastly, the woman I placed an order with on the phone the last time was unfortunately rude and demanded that we leave a tip, despite ordering takeout. I understand that it is a difficult time, and I have definitely tipped many times before when getting takeout, but when someone demands that a customer tips on takeout, it makes for a very unprofessional and poor tone for the business. read more

Central Taco & Tequila is one of the newest hot spots to grace the Haddon Ave restaurant scene. It may not be the only place you can get a taco on the street, but it is certainly the best and only place to find a wide selection of both tacos and tequila. This is a go to spot for my friends and I. Our trips typically consist of ordering multiple tacos and pitchers of tequila (no surprise there). We came here recently to celebrate both my buddy's and my birthdays and had a great time - even sitting outside in the parking lot during these COVID times. Props to the burrito bowl which was a nice alternative to the tacos. Be forewarned that if you come with a group, each person's order may come out at different times (something they warn you about if you're a first timer). They've changed the menu in the past year or so, I'm guessing to simplify the menu somewhat, but to me it has lost a little. Now for instance you have to order 2 of a taco instead of a sampler of one of whatever you want. I think they carry less draft beer and/or don't change it so much. My girlfriend and I were meeting for mexican food. We originally planned to go somewhere else, but it was closed, so we decided on here. If we knew in advance, we would've made a reservation. We got there about 6:45 and only had a 30 minute wait. We got to wait outside on these benches and it wasn't too cold so it wasn't bad. We waited the whole time with nothing and did not get them until we were seated and reminded the waitress that we ordered them. We chose indoor seating and the inside was pretty cute too. The bar looked nice! When we finally got seated, we got our drinks and the menu. The drink I originally ordered was the Central and my friend got the Blood Orange. Both were delicious! However, they said they would have a salt rim and as you can see, we got ours in plastic cups with nothing on them. Still a delicious drink, but lacking on the picture worthy aspect! We ordered the chips and guac and tortilla soup to start. Both were heavily salted, but still very delicious! I love salt so I didn't mind, but I could see how it would be an issue to some. For our main course, we both got the spicy crispy chicken tacos. They were DELICIOUS! Definitely spicy (I couldn't finish it!) with lots of flavor. The piece of chicken was a bit small, but so crispy and flavorful. I loved them! I would definitely go back here again! We were seated out back which I thought was really nice. Kristen was our server and she was awesome. She recommended the dip (I forget the name, but it was awesome). Manager Sam and staff members Deena and Evan were fantastic. They listened to what we wanted and made it happen without a single issue. My wife and I had quite a number of lunches here and I've been here a few times. I just really enjoy coming here. The menu is simple and hits the spot for contemporary Tex-Mex type food. Love this place when I'm feeling tacos, but a different kinda taco. They're inventive and unique! My go-to is the Coconut Shrimp taco with pineapple. YUMM. You used to be able to order individual tacos, but now two come in an order... I liked it better as individual! It gave the customer more of a chance to find what they like and what they don't. I also found that three is the perfect sweet spot to fill you up, now it's either two or four... and the three people at my table all had one left over. Anyway, my runner up is definitely the Korean Short Rib. The Mexican chicken dip is also really good. It has a tiny kick and we pretty much devoured it. SO BAD! Is there an option for no stars? I guess not. Came here one night for dinner with friends. Thank god the company was great because the establishment was not! FOOD: terrible. We got nachos, guac, and I got the coconut shrimp tacos. They were not good. Lacking flavor and authenticity. I think the chips were stale and the portions are small for the price and quality. I will say the churros were fire though. DRINKS: watered down! A place with tequila in the title you'd think they would know what's up. Spoiler alert: they do not! Skip the nachos and go right for the tacos. I'm never one to leave a nacho on a plate but we ended up leaving 2/3 of them. There were chunks of unmelted mozzarella cheese. Who puts mozzarella on nachos? The cotija cheese on top was nice, but the mozz killed the vibe. Crispy fish taco and al pastor taco hit the spot! The corn tortillas were fresh and authentic. My husband and I were looking for a place where we could grab a quick bite to eat and a few drinks, and let me tell you, Central Taco did not disappoint. We ordered the queso and street corn to share - the corn was amazing. I ordered the fish tacos and spicy chicken tacos and my husband ordered the spare ribs. Do yourself a favor, order the spare rib tacos, the flavor is out of this world. I also enjoyed the sauce on the spicy chicken taco - even though IMO, there was nothing "spicy" about the dish. More like a 3.5 star review. Went her on a day date with the husband and was excited to finally try this place. Started off with some cocktails which were good but I didn't get much mint from my watermelon mint margarita. At $10 each they should be exquisite. We shared 2 empanadas-- one chicken tinga and picadillo both were pretty good! Also got guacamole and chips and I think it was the worst guacamole I've ever had. No taste. It had no cilantro, garlic or salt in it -- just tomatoes and red onion. Side note, the chips were good. Lastly we split tacos, I got coconut shrimp and he got Korean short rib. I love this place!! If you want delicious tacos and margaritas this is the place to come!! There Lemon Blueberry margaritas are my absolute favorite I could drink them everyday yum! I have tried a bunch of other flavors but this stays my favorite. We always get the Guacamole it is very good and has so much flavor. As far as Tacos go the Coconut Shrimp are a must get!! Again I could eat these everyday so yummy and all the flavors blend together perfectly. My husband loves their fajitas. We will keep coming back and trying more. We have been trying to go here for months and every time we go there is at least an hour wait; really about popular! Thankfully the holiday weekend worked out for us, we finally got to try this place & I can not understand the wait! We were immediately seated outside upon arriving, & let me just say that I can appreciate any place that offers alfresco dining in this beautiful weather. I ordered a Paloma and my boyfriend ordered their Cucumber Breeze. Both cocktails were extremely flavorful & each had the perfect amount of alcohol. This is the type of place where you can build your order however you'd like. We opted to start with the nachos (no protein added): the pickled red onion on top of the nachos was a pleasant addition & there was a generous amount of cotija cheese on the entire order. As someone who loves all cheeses, this was much appreciated. My boyfriend did wish that they had a little more jalapeño on the nachos, but I thought they were perfect. We tried almost every taco on the menu (it's one per order, approx $3 each & 5" in diameter). My favorites were the coconut shrimp taco and the SPICY crispy chicken. My boyfriend loved the featured taco, the Oaxacan flank steak. We also split a side of Mexican street corn, esquites, and that was AMAZING. The flame-grilled corn made the flavor really pop, and it was not mayo-heavy for all you anti-mayo peeps. Our server, Jack, was super attentive and sweet. Not sure if it was because it was the end of the night, but these tacos were really not great. The carnitas meat was so hard, it was inedible. The only taco worth ordering again was the coconut shrimp. I'd heard the drinks here were good, but I found them just as mediocre as the food. The service was also not the best. This is an okay late-night option during the week, but there are generally much better spots for tacos/drinks. read more

I'm giving this business 4 stars but my true ranking is 3.5... I drove by Central last week and was impressed with the outside appearance, so my daughter and I decided to give them a try. I spent most of my childhood in Texas, so I'm no stranger to authentic Mexican food. For starters, as I said, I was very impressed by the overall appearance of the restaurant. It's definitely a place for the trendy crowd. However, upon entering the establishment there was no hostess in site to seat us. We looked around for a sign that would inform me to seat myself, but it was non existent. After standing in the doorway and watching several waitstaff walk past my daughter and I... We finally flagged down someone and was advised to seat ourselves. Of course, I was not happy about this lack of communication for new customers. After my initial disappointment, things went pretty well for the remainder of the visit. Our waitress was very attentive and it made my initial negative feelings dissipate into a more positive experience. As I observed other tables, I felt that everyone seemed to be well taken care of by the staff, so the customer service ended up being exceptional!! The rest of the review will discuss our food selections. One thing that was missing from this mexican establishment was complimentary chips and salsa for the table. They do offer it on the menu for purchase but if your pushing tequila and other signature drinks. It would be in your best interest to provide a buffer. Coconut margarita- This drink is a 10/10... The overall presentation was attractive and they are not shy with their spirits...lol.. I could only enjoy half my drink because I was the designated driver... But on another day, I'll be back to tango with bar.. Esquites/Mexican street corn- Anytime, I'm lucky enough to find a mexican restaurant that offers this or Elotes in this area, it's a win/win... Queso- Honestly, it's hard to mess up this dish unless you serve it room temperature... That's my only negative, why serve it in a skillet if it's not hot?? However, the flavor was spot on. Taco's!!!! Veggie taco- Now my suggestion is to completely skip this item... I do not eat dairy outside of cheese, so I removed the crema but if all the seasonings were in the cream, your going in the wrong direction.. The selection of assorted veggies(brussel sprouts included) were the selling point but it lacks any real flavor. Fried fish taco- Again, really good effort but lacks overall flavor. Let me just say something, the fish was perfectly fried and was extremely fresh, so if they just added a little seasoning, maybe something close to tajin(hint-hint) this would have been a winner. I did exclude the crema, but this should not have affected the overall taste. Shrimp and chorizo taco- 10/10... I only had a small taste but this is a must if you are a meat eater. Full of flavor and it had a nice amount of mild spice. Korean short rib taco- 10/10... This was my daughter's favorite taco... Full of flavor and a very generous portion size. Spicy chicken taco- Another favorite of my daughter... The chicken is the highlight as it was fried to perfection and was very moist. A truly excellent taco. Carne Asada taco- Now we didn't order this taco, but they gave it to us, anyway...Not sure if it was a favorite because though the meat was tender, it was just a little dry. The portion size was generous. Dessert- Shortbread skillet cookie w/ vanilla ice cream- Now I'm not a sweet eater, at all and I'm definitely not a fan of cookies but when I tell you, this will make anyone change their mind, IT WILL!!... I definitely avoided the ice cream but that hot, fresh, amazing shortbread cookie was on a WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL!!! Try to save room for this, you don't want to skip it.... Definitely 10/10!!! To sum it up, I definitely plan on making future visits. I'll have to bring a bottle of Tajin in my purse to correct the seasoning issue, but it's nothing to big to keep me from coming back.
