    New handlebars
    Don P.

Went to get an estimate on replacing my butterfly handlebars for cruiser style bars to allow me to bike in a more vertical position because of neck and back problems. James was very patient and thorough on his evaluation. He made some great recommendations. He also informed me a little about the model bike I had because I purchased it used on Craigslist. I purchased 4 different styles of handlebars on Amazon, determined the best one for my needs and returned the other 3. James installed the handlebars which required longer brake and gear cables. He used premium parts and everything works flawlessly. When I picked it up, he also adjusted the handbrakes to better accomodate my short fingers. My bike is now perfect and biking is more enjoyable without pain. The best part, he did it in less than 24 hours and at a very reasonable price. Thanks James!

This is the storefront with enough parking as needed

I walked in here today and discovered a local gem. Owner operator Dave is knowledgeable and friendly. Let them know what you're looking for and he's happy to help you. They offer bike repairs and knowledgeable advice If you've looked at prices for bicycles lately, you know they can be extremely high. I find the store very reasonable with a decent selection for men, women, and children.

1982 Predator Mag from Fremont Schwinn.

I still have the 1982 Schwinn Predator Mag that I received for Christmas as a kid. I restored the bike to look like new again. I remember picking the bike out at Fremont Schwinn. I was happy to see them still open after all of these years.

I lived in Fremont for 25 years and just found out this shop, honest, honest people, family own. I highly recommend this bike shop, I shop around for a fix from REI, Bicycle Garage, Centripedal......and more, they all got beautiful showroom and rip- you off prices. Adding extra, unnecessary items to the fix, prices higher than getting your car a tune-up, 4 X 8 foot cables, really......!!!! But now, there is another honest option to consider, not as good looking as the others, but this is my shop now, don't judge a book by the cover, ask for James.

He was very professional and very nice and was very helpful with my bike which I was looking for a long time. He is helpful and gave me good advice. His price was reasonable too.

    the pedal is totally off.

I had a very good experience with this store in the past so I came to it again even I moved to the south bay. Overall: 5 stars. During the pandemic time, I have brought 3 bikes to this store for repairs since there were not too many choices for buying a new one. The repair quality is good. They are very busy so you may not get your work done right away. But with about an hour or two hours, I got my two bikes repaired today. Given the good reviews from other people on Yelp, I will definitely come here again for future repair needs. Update on Dec. 24: lower the rating to 3. Reason: when I was in the store for bike repair, I pointed out that one of the bike had issue on its pedal. The owner checked it and said that the pedal had no problem and just need to tighten. He said he will tight it for me when he repaired other problem for that bike. But obviously he forgot to do so. Today the pedal is totally off when I was biking in the county park. He basically either forgot to tight the pedal or misdiagnosed the pedal issue.

Fully assembled Schwinn step-thru beach cruiser
    Tracy C.

I bought a single speed beach cruiser online from Schwinn and decided it was safer to have it professionally assembled. I found this place while looking for local/small business bike shops on Yelp. James took the time to explain his high-level assembly process, timing, and pricing. The pricing is extremely reasonable and fair. I asked for quotes from a few other bike shops and this place was by far the best. Another bike shop quoted me more than 2x the price when given the same bike details and specs. He helped me get the finished bike into my sedan, answered questions I had, shared care/maintenance tips, and even gave me a hex key to reattach the handlebars at home (had to be removed so it would fit in my car). So far the bike is riding very smoothly and I have zero complaints. James is very professional and I wish more business owners were like him - straightforward, knowledgeable and kind. To the reviewers that say otherwise: respect is a two-way street. He gave his honest opinion when asked and didn't push any sales that I didn't need. Great place that deserves your business.

What stands out to me is there quality of bike services for repairs, customer service for shopping for a new bike, and bike maintenance. They also have a used bikes section (varying inventory) which is terrific for families with young kids that frequently need new bikes without breaking the parent's bank. On the flip side, for the more enthusiasts or adult bikers they have bikes that should satisfy their needs for sure. The staff is helpful and friendly which is something that's never present with online or big box shops so definitely consider this bike shop in the future.

James and his staff was very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional about everything. They really spend the time to answer your questions and not just to "sell you something." The process to buy a bike is that you go to the retailer website (for example, Giant) and order the bike yourself. You have the bike shipped to Centripedal and they will assemble it for you. Afterwards they will call you to come in for a fitting. Then after this you can take the bike home. You get one year of maintenance, parts, and labor for free. Afterwards, you then pay as needed. The turnaround time to get the bike was about a week and James was able to deliver it to me (after fitting) as my car couldn't fit the bike and I lived relatively close by. Verdict: I'm going back in the future!

I've had a hard time finding a good bicycle mechanic and I decided to try Castro Valley Cyclery and my first impression was how empty the shop was. Not one single customer, completely empty. I explained, " all I need was a Derailleur adjustment and everything else on the bike was new, so there was nothing wrong except it needs an adjustment" The manager, Tyler Dietrich, tried to sell me a bunch of things and I declined because he was desperate to make a sale and not out of honesty. When I picked up the bike a few days later after receiving a message that it was ready, again I noticed the bike shop was completely empty, 0 customers. I took bike out for a test ride and noticed the adjustment wasn't made. I mentioned to the manager, Tyler Dietrich, and he put it on rack and said there's nothing wrong. I told him, "you need to put a load on the bike and ride it. He rode it around the shop and he realized the shifting wasn't right and said, "there's nothing wrong" He said I need to get new parts and again tried to sell me stuff that wasn't needed. Next he began to get confrontational with me which I didn't understand because I am the customer and I am the one paying for service. I asked for a refund, which he gave me and told me to never come back again. I was shocked. All of you Mountain bikers and road cyclists who likes to have your bikes dialed in, adjusted properly, fine-tuned, DO NOT GO TO THIS BIKE SHOP. You will be disappointed. Trust me. Now it makes sense why their were no customers here. And if you need to buy a new bike go somewhere else. This place isn't worth the headache and frustrations.
