Had a couple of Jai Alai IPA beers and listened to Logan Grant, my favorite local musician. The beers were actually cheap at $4.50, while they normally cost $6 everywhere else. I have been to this place about three times now since I moved here. Each time I have come, the service, food, and drinks have continued to decline. This place is the epitome of a tourist trap. There are so many better bars and venues just a few hundred feet from this place, as it does have a premium location. The bands they have playing here are also pretty good from what I saw/heard. The first time I came here, it was very forgettable. The bartenders were inattentive and the drinks were too sweet, weak, and overpriced. The second time I was waiting for my cab in the area so I decided to have a drink and asked for chips and salsa. I got the drink but the bartender rudely told me "we aren't serving food anymore". I accepted it as I should, then 5 minutes later the bar back took a huge thing of chips and dumped them in the trash! Really? Couldn't have just given me some chips?! I left and NEVER though I would return... A few months passed and a guy I was on a date with really wanted to check it out. He was lured by the music. I hesitantly agreed. I used the restroom that was dirty and was about 120 degrees. I went out and it took about 10+ minutes for a server to arrive (it was practically dead that Sunday). He wanted to get some fish bowl drink, and I agreed. We sat there for another 20 minutes and out order was still not put in. We decided to cancel and went to the other better establishments... I randomly stopped by here I'm search of a happy hour one day, the drink specials were a bit overwhelming since there were so many but a friend of mine and I tried one of the fishbowl drinks and it was a great deal. Around 32 oz of alcohol for $21. We literally had to force ourselves to finish it. The loaded quesadillas were absolutely the best I ever had in my life! It tasted so authentic. The homemade salsa they have is equally amazing. So much so, that I paid for a container of it to go. Go before 7 pm to enjoy happy hour specials. read more

Great view and lots of nice space in Ybor. I recommend it more as a hang out place to enjoy the weather, live music, and fun people watching. They have a wide variety of drink options including a full range of frozen drinks. That however usually leads to a mix of brain freeze and sugar crashes. I am giving Centro Cantina three stars because the only thing I have ever had from hear was margaritas. Located on the second level of Centro Ybor in the center of 7th Ave, Centro Cantina is the perfect spot to have some delicious drinks and people watch - the vantage point is pure perfection! A friend and I hunkered down at a table on a raised platform right agains the railing with a margarita pitcher and were there for a couple of hours. The drinks were refreshing and delicious, the staff was attentive, and the vibe was very laid back. On any give night while you're walking by you can hear musicians covering anything from Bon Jovi to Matchbox Twenty. They also have a wall of frozen drinks, kind of like Wet Willie's but not as expansive. I'm not sure if I would ever have a meal here (not that anything seems wrong with their food), but I will MOST DEFINITELY return for more margarita pitchers and judging of drunken Ybor patrons stumbling down the strip! read more

Centro Cantina, upstairs in an open patio area in Centro Ybor, is a cool place to be. Usually, there is a nice breeze and the servers are friendly and pretty quick. On Wednesdays, there is karaoke. On other nights, there is a crowd of the usual, loyal patrons. I love the slushie drinks, though sometimes the texture and the sweetness is not something I can endure for too long. Centro also offers beer and wine, as well as all liquors. The bartender is awesome! When it comes to the food, it could be better. The only thing this place has going for it is the location. There are so many great places in Ybor so I have absolutely no reason to return here. We had a pitcher of margaritas and appetizers. The food wasn't terrible, but it certainly wasn't good either. The nachos lacked the flavor I would expect. We ordered the top shelf margaritas and I'm glad we did. Centro Cantina has a fantastic location, so it's a shame that they don't put out a better product. I only had beer when I came here, but it's pretty hard to mess that up. Tried a little of my friend's frozen concoction, it wasn't bad but nothing that I would seek this place out for. We were sitting at the bar and I didn't see a single thing come out of the kitchen that looked appetizing. Don't come here for food, simple as that. Funny side note to this day -- when you're a few deep on a sunny afternoon and not familiar with the Amtrak schedule, it might trip you out a little bit when a train rumbles down the street. This review is based on one visit. The ambiance was cool with outside seating and the frozen drink machines. Looks like it could be good time. I sat at the bar and the bartender was good. I ordered the chips with salsa and guacamole. It was no bueno! The chips were not homemade and if they were then they need to keep them out of the machine that keeps them warm. We were walking by and figured we'd stop in for a margarita. The location is great and it has a lot of potential to be a neat bar...unfortunately it does not live up to it's potential. Ordered a margarita pitcher..we could see them making it from our table, and then we watched it sit, and sit, and melt, and sit. By the time the server noticed I was almost ready to leave but I love margaritas so I stuck around. I don't think it could even be considered a margarita...soooo disappointing. The short of it Good music- the game was on- drinks were ok (I am not a fan of the adult slushy). The food was really good I had the buffalo chicken fingers and they were really well done for bar food. I don't know how but some people still manage to screw up bar food but I was impressed. The flavor was there, they used clean oil to fry the chicken, the sauce had flavor and the the fries tasted like potatos not something strange like chemicals. I happened upon Centro Cantina around 2 pm yesterday when I traveled to Ybor for a little day trip during my Spring Break. I had a friend visiting, and I'm new to Tampa - I was told we should spend a day in Ybor for a good time. Unfortunately, we went to Centro Cantina. We were on a hunt for Mexican food and drinks, but what we got were syrup-y slushies and a pathetic menu. We were super hungry when we arrived so we ordered chips and queso fundido right away. When it finally arrived, I couldn't believe it. It was this bright orange color that appears no where in nature. Nice spot to grab table with a view and a frozen drink in the middle of Ybor city. There are a dozen or so frozen drinks on tap. This is an open air place which is nice on the right day. Tex Mex, and mediocre tex mex at best. Service is poor. Smells of old sour beer and previous nights regrets. You can tell this is mainly a night time bar that also opens for lunch. If I were out at night drinking and going shots of tequila this place might be good, but not for lunch option. Dirty and unkept. We went to Ybor city one night and came across this place!! The drinks are phenomenal!!! You have several different flavors of frozen drinks to choose from, have a bad case of indecisiveness???? They let you mix and match!!!! Great atmosphere, outside, good music, and saw a NY METS sign hanging up letting us know the owner is from the NY area and now come baseball season my bf has a local spot to watch his favorite hometown team! Soooo not surprised to see poor reviews for this spot. The location is good and that's about it. The margarita was so acidic and sickly sour. It was served in this little patron bottle. I guess its supposed to be cute but without ice the drink was too thick. I asked for ice thinking I could make it better but nope. When we told the server the margarita wasn't good and we'd rather just head out she god MAD. Refused to take the drink off the bill then lied to the manager that I drank half of it. Clearly, you could see the cup was still full. So, the drinks and the service are sub par. Go to the bar downstairs. read more
