Weak drinks, mediocre food. Automatic 18% gratuity do no incentive for the servers to do their job. Pitchers were all ice and no margarita. You have to flag down someone just to get a napkin or a refill. Oh, and their computers were down, so after trying to get our servers attention and finally writing down my info so they could charge me when they came back up, their manager texts this to arrange payment - so yeah. Don't go to this cheap, trashy establishment. Rude and honestly so not worth it. read more

The staff was very nice, but outside of that, the establishment needs help being consistent with other competing bars. We had a margarita pitcher that was sweet and tangy. It's sad to see so many bad reviews for this place. It has serious potential. Seems their biggest problem is under-staffing. Personally, I like it. It's just hard to get a drink when they get busy. But, nice view, I really like their frozen drinks (and they're pretty strong for what you pay for), and they frequently have live bands that are pretty good. Overall, my experience there has been pretty good. I can relate to the whole lack of service when they get busy though. Again, the issue is under-staffing more than anything else from my experience. read more

I stopped by Centro Cantina for a drink with friends while in Tampa for work. The frozen concoctions were perfect for a really hot day. I liked that the alcohol was served in test tubes that you then poured into the drink, but then there wasn't anywhere to put the tube. It made for a bit of a sticky mess. The drinks were good- sweet as you might expect. The service wasn't memorable, but not bad. I didn't have any food here, but they seemed to have your typical bar food. Great spot if you want to be outside in an open air setting, but covered by a roof. read more

We were tempted to go here for the live music on a Friday night and got a couple of drinks. We got the 'house of friends' margarita, and 'pain in the ass' frozen margarita but it was nowhere close to even a good drink. The house of friends tasted as sour as pure lime juice, and the rum runner in the other cocktail was too overpowering. Our server was very nice and got one of our drinks changed to a pina colada which was average as well. I had to mix some Pina colada into my cocktail to make it drinkable, but I had lost my enthusiasm by then. We left without finishing even half of our drinks! read more

There is only one thing keeping me from giving this place 0 stars, well 2 things. The view over 7th and the fact that Yelp doesn't allow me to give zero stars. I have to say I really really wanted to like this place. I'd seen it during my last visit to Ybor and had made a note to come back to try it out. A couple of us headed to Ybor for the after Gasparilla celebration and I specifically called out that we had to stop here. We sat down at a recently empty table that was promptly wiped down and were told our server would be with us shortly. 10 minutes later, still no server. We moved to the bar when some seats opened up hoping for quicker service and were disappointed again. One drink down and we immediately left. While sitting at the bar, I saw the bartender mix 2 of their "specialties," being a frozen drink in a bikini glass and the fishbowl punch. You're more likely to get diabetes than a buzz considering the disproportionate amount of grenadine to booze. I'm glad we chose to skip the fish bowl for a quick beer. With all of the awesome, eclectic spots in Ybor, don't waste your time coming here. read more

Fantastic Bloody Mary. I had to update my review to give them props on their Bloody Marys. I made my own at Gaspar's Grotto's Booze Cruise Brunch earlier that day, so maybe that's what made the difference so jarring. I have to admit, I enjoy drinking Bloody Marys, but I wouldn't say I'm adept at making them. When I found out they had a $5 special on Bloody Marys, I was sold. Boy, am I glad I tried it. It had the perfect amount of spice and they even had Bloody Mary spiced salt around the rim! That kicked it up a notch for me. I had a chance to appreciate the décor since it was the middle of the day. I really enjoy the bright colors of the tables. It reminds me of Key West. They also had live music playing on a Sunday. You can tip the guy and request a song. It's a very low key hang out spot that just screams Florida. This is one of those places you bring an out of state friend to on a boozy Sunday. read more

I went to Centro Cantina with some friends for drinks after a show at the improv theater. It was around 8:30pm on a Cinco De Mayo so I was pretty surprised it wasn't super busy. However, they had two people behind the bar and there were some tables with larger groups plus every seat at the bar was mostly occupied. We were able to grab a table and went up to the bar to order drinks. There were like 3 people ahead of me but one bartender was speaking to a high maintenance group and the other was slammed with trying to make drinks and fulfill orders. There was one bus-person who was trying to take chips and dip to tables and it was all wrong and he had to keep being called back. Overall it was a mess and I waited so long in line that it just made more sense to buy everyone's drink and get them to pay me back because we would have been there forever if we went up one at a time. I ordered a pitcher of margaritas and a Corona and spent about $44 + tip. This wasn't too bad but once we started drinking the margaritas we were disappointed. It was basically 5 shots added to a lot of lemonade and I had ordered the more premium pitcher too. It also got watered down significantly. The upside was the musician that night was playing some great 90's-early 00's jams so we appreciated that. read more

Horrible experience!! from the Service TO THE DRINKS ! went last week with a friend and they completely changed the staff( They seem like they don't know what they doing) I believe new ownership. Food is trash and they changed their cocktail list and I believe the quality as well, Drinks were not good ( no agave, and the lime does not taste fresh at all) , I am a margarita lover and use to love their JV3 but now they don't even carry Don Julio anymore, who ever is managing this place now has gone down to a 1/5 for me ... I would not recommend anyone I know to go to that shithole! ALSO BEWARE OF THEIR SHITTY SERVICE AND A 18% GRATUITY ON YOUR CHECK ! My girlfriend was racial profiles at this location. Bartender stated she didn't looks like her ID and she provided additional prove of her insurance to match the info. They didn't care and proceeded to call authorities. We got kicked out for no reason just because a bartender didn't like her appearance. Stay clear if you don't want problems. Came to this place on family vacation. Went in for an appetizer and some drinks. The drinks were good, the nacho appetizer as well. However, service was quite 50/50. This place was not good. We were wandering around Ybor and saw this place upstairs so we made our way upstairs. There were plenty of open seats at the bar and open high tops but we chose the bar. It took forever for the bartender to even acknowledge us and we weren't the only ones who had that issue. Our drinks were ok, nothing fancy. We wanted to order a shot but we could see behind the bar and how dirty everything was, including a lot of the glassware so we chose not to. We paid our bill and left after one drink. read more

I went to this restaurant tonight wanting to catch a bite to eat and enjoy the atmosphere. I ordered drinks requesting "well" vodka to find out later on that they charged me for premium without my consent. I told the waitress there was a mistake and asked if she could fix it or should I just speak with the manager myself. She stated that she would fix it...but instead, she along with other staff members decided that my concerns were not valid "because she was new". I have plenty of service experience and take pride in holding myself accountable for my mistakes....so for them to dismiss their failure to appropriately train this young lady was beyond me. I "politely " asked to speak to the manager (and after being told many lies that he wasnt available), he later approached me aggressively without giving me the opportunity to explain "the customer's concern" since he was not present during these exchanges. Aside from this waitress' lack of communication regarding this unexpected price change, she was awesome and attentive. I find struggle in wondering whether or not she panicked at the thought of a customer having a dispute, in conjunction with her inability to utilize appropriate customer service skills. Two strangers whom sat next to me tried to explain to the manager my concerns as well and he was rude to them also. I never refused to pay this ticket but simply wanted to pay for what I REQUESTED. Since the manager only took the word of his staff, whom did not try to help in any way and seemed to be reacting based on inexperience and prejudice, he immediately assumed that I was refusing to pay and summoned two security guards towards me. I never want to go here again...which is sad because I had a good time otherwise. They made me feel discounted and disrespected, considering that I am an educated and level headed woman whom has every right to speak up for myself. That manager is no leader by any means. Call me crazy but I really like this little oasis a flight up from the crazies of ybor nights. The food is bar food so don't come looking for an amazing mexican dish, but the french fries are yummm and served piping hot! (skip the bacon cheese fries as my husband was not sure the cheese on his was actually cheese) My friends made fun of me for ordering fries instead of a taco...but then they all ate my fries. They have a large variety of frozen drinks here to cool down with, but they also have a full bar and beer on tap. Its a good place to grab a drink, a snack and a chair. They always have live talent which also always seems to be pretty talented. read more

I found this place by accident a few months ago after watching a movie at Ybor AMC. The drink prices are reasonable, and they offer typical bar foods. It is definitely better to visit at day time, rather than at night. Day time bartenders are friendly and helpful with any questions you may ask. They are also very generous with their pours. I've only tried their guacamole and chips because I couldn't try anything else on the menu. The guacamole was the smoothest I've had in a while and were a great snack while trying out all their delicious daiquiris. Night time is very hit or miss when I've been here. I've always been able to find a seat at the bar, which matters a lot to me when I go out for drinks. Sometimes there are cover charges on weird days, even though there isn't anything special going on, while on holidays it's free entry. Strange, but I still enjoy coming here because it's nice to chill out and have a few drinks with the boyfriend or some friends. Bottom line, it is great to grab a few drinks while waiting for a movie or a reservation. The prices are more than reasonable and the live music is alright. They also have a jukebox you can request music with during the daytime. read more

Why do I always find a way to stop by when I'm in Ybor? I must give credit to where it's due. It's convenient to stop in, grab a drink and just lounge for a bit. There's a sentiment of nostalgia I get hanging out in an outdoor bar at a shopping centre. Ah. Glory days. That feeling, however, is minimal. The atmosphere just doesn't do it for me. Visited Ybor City for the first time on a Wednesday morning with my mom. Around 11:30am we decided to get lunch in el centro, which is basically an outdoor, two-level, mini-mall that spans from 7th to 8th Avenue. Centro Cantina is a big round restaurant on the second level that sits in the middle of the whole ensemble. The decor was cute and kitschy, almost what you'd expect at a Cancun bar -- big 64 oz mugs hanging from above the bar, a row of 7Eleven-style slushy machines, each with a different frozen drink swirling inside, colorful bar-height tables and a smorgasbord of different party themed items hanging around. The circular shape of the building means that all the tables are butted up against the railing so you can overlook Ybor city below, which is gorgeous. Service was good -- I'd hope so, since it was so early and we were one of two tables occupied in the place! Happy hour was as promised - 2 for 1 drinks 11am-7pm. We got 2 strawberry & key lime daiquiris (one comes with a vial of 151 - bonus!), which were good but definitely little-to-no booze. I ended up getting the "bikini glass" for $11.75, which is an actual body-shaped glass with a cute bikini painted on -- filled with your beverage of choice (sex on the beach & pina colada for me -- the sex on the beach daiquiri is outstanding!). They will wash it out for you when you're done, and the manager even put it in a box for me for safe traveling (thank you!!) The food was surprisingly good - somewhat small, pretty basic menu. I was a little disappointed it was all "Mexican" with no "Cuban" specialties -- it was historic Ybor City, after all... We ended up sharing a spinach & chicken pizza and AY DIOS MIO was that good. The crust was thin and crispy, the spinach was creamed, and the chicken was in teensy weensie pieces so it was easy to eat on pizza. Delicious! Prices were just as expected and the waitress was prompt throughout the meal. I wouldn't necessarily recommend Centro Cantina for the Historic Ybor City tourist looking for Cuban cuisine, but if I lived closer it's the kind of place that would be great to meet friends for lunch & midday drinks and awesome for a night out.. those 64oz mugs hanging over the bar? They sell them (and huge hookah-shaped yard cups) filled with your favorite drinks! Check please! read more

So when we walked in, I appreciated location. I asked the waitress if they served seafood (since I came here on a Friday during Lent). She responded, "seafood will be hard to find around here." Confused, I responded, "by here do you mean Tampa?" Apparently there are no seafood focused restaurants in that area. Needless to say, we were off to a bad start. Our waitress continued to be extraordinarily rude for the rest of the night. We should have left before we ordered. To be consistent with the others, this was the worst food I have ever experienced. In all honesty, I cannot believe that we were served microwaved food from 7/11. I also wish I had zero stars. Chips were the Santina $2 a bag brand. The guacamole was slimy and from a bag. The "queso" was worst than nacho cheese that you would find at a discount movie theater. Worst of all... The "wet" burrito. Please beware. It was a microwaved frozen burrito with canned chili poured on the top (the wet of the wet burrito). Also horrible service. I ordered the cheese quesadilla. It was cheese in a tortilla, literally with nothing else in it. No seasoning, no nothing. It's only been 30 minutes, and I feel terrible. I should've left... That was not worth it. Located in the heart of Ybor City . Centro Cantina is a nice little outside bar located on the second story of Centro Ybor. The deck offers a lovely view 7th Avenue and all those walking about on a Saturday afternoon, or stumbling about on a Saturday night. Their specialty is frozen drinks, which you can obviously see as you approach the bar that wraps around the restaurant. There are about 15 of what appear to be slushy machines but are definitely not for children. They are offered in the usual 16oz glass, or if you are feeling adventurous or like sharing, they also offer drinks in 64oz glasses. If you don't like your drinks frozen, they have a full liquor bar, and a large selection of tequilas. I have never eaten an entree here, but their salsa is amazing. Their happy hour is absolutely extreme and lasts from 11AM until 7PM. They also hold karaoke on Wednesday nights. Overall an ok joint. Nice place to hang out in Ybor. Oh yeah. I really wanted to like this place. It is located centrally perched on the top floor of a tall building where you can see everybody on the busy 7th Ave. However, I was truly disappointed as the place turned out to be a pure tourist trap that's not one of those good tourist traps but the ones that you should avoid. We went the Cantina on a Saturday afternoon and there was nobody there. The waitresses were just hanging around playing on their smartphones. After we sat down, we asked if there were any specials going on and much to our surprise there were none! I mean, if it's 3pm on a Saturday and you have an empty bar wouldn't it be a good idea for you to offer even just a dollar off a drink? I would think so but Centro Cantina for some reason think that suckers (like us) will still come here and pay the full price. Paying almost eight dollars for the frozen drinks would still have been okay if they were actually any good but we were (again) sorely disappointed. Imagine taking a bunch of ice and sugar and some flavored syrup and just blending it up. That's what we were served along with a test tube full of alcohol that we had to mix on our own. I'm paying eight dollars and I still have to do the work of mixing my alcohol and your sugar slushee?!? The end result was this mix of alcoholic sips and just sugary ice. We will probably never return to Centro Cantina because of the dismal drinks and atmosphere. I recommend that you check out the numerous other bars rather than go to this sad tourist trap. read more
