After my dentist retired, we had a little global pandemic, and then things got busy and ... in 2026 I brought them a mouth some California dentists wouldn't touch without hundreds of dollars in X-ray and lab fees up front. Then wouldn't touch. ​ In two days of care, they replaced a complex crown, did four quadrants of deep cleaning, and filled an embarrassing number of cavities. I paid about two and a half Gs for what I was quoted elsewhere for between $6K and $10K. This is dental work under local anesthesia, so some pain from numbing is expected. They have a deal with a chain hotel in easy walking distance that has an included breakfast with soft foods and a UV water dispenser on every floor. From my initial contact on WhatsApp, to their offer to Uber me to the office, to patient intake and detailed assessment including head CTs (!), 3D modeling (!!!), photography of teeth and individual tooth x-rays, and the competence of the clinical team... I don't believe this level of dental care is available in Estados Unidos. If I have a friend who needs dental care, I will cheerfully refer them here. Note: WhatsApp and Uber are essential tools in Tijuana.​

Dora at the front helped me set up this appointment and she spoke excellent English and Spanish. Most of the staff speak both languages, so if you're nervous about communication, I wouldn't worry about it if you don't speak Spanish. They are very organized and communicate quickly via email and WhatsApp. They offer a shuttle service pick up, which is easy. As soon as you cross the border, the pick up area is right outside the gates and the pharmacy. The driver gives you about a 10-minute grace period for your pick up appointment. However, if you miss it for whatever reason, the uber is under $5 to get to the office. For your appointment, you receive a QR code which you will scan to get through to the elevators. The QR code will only work 15 minutes before your appointment. This is to manage the amount of people in the waiting room. There is still a seating area in the first floor if you're early. Dr. Alexandra performed my cleaning and she was super nice. There is a TV on the ceiling and they even ask about your favorite music to have it on while they work on you. This was the most at ease I've felt at the dentist.

My case was a nightmare on paper: a failed root canal with curved, L-shaped canals, broken file instruments left inside, and a leaking crown that had been causing ongoing issues. Every specialist I consulted in the States either declined outright or quoted an outcome they weren't confident about. Dr. Alex took one look at my X-rays and , explained exactly what he was dealing with, and said he could helpo. What set him apart was his thoroughness and honesty. He didn't rush. He didn't cut corners. He was upfront that this would take significantly more time than a standard re-treatment -- and he delivered on that. The problem with finding a great dentist is finding one that is super-skilled at what they do, really care about you as a patient and are affordable. It's easy to find one with one of these things, not super hard find one with two, but really, really hard to find one with all three. Dr. Ramirez has all three. With other dentists I found in Tijuana (some of which are highly rated on this site), so many are just running tourist mills. I always felt rushed, I felt pressured to get treatments I didn't need or the price I was quoted changed sometimes mid-procedure. On the other hand, Dr. Ramirez is always willing to sit and explain every problem, procedure and options at length in English which is great for Americans like me that know no Spanish. He is very honest about expected outcomes and follow-ups. It is very clear that he takes his work very seriously and really cares about you as a patient and a person. He goes out of his way to make sure the process is painless and comfortable. His finished product is the best I've had in my life. He also quotes a price and sticks with it which will be at least half and maybe more than what you would pay in the states for the exact same work. I could not be happier in finding Dr Ramirez. But Dr. Hens made the experience easy. My comfort was constantly monitored. They have blankets and pillows. Throughout the procedure, they checked in with me regularly.. Explanations and warnings for every sensation. I did not experience any pain, which is rare for me as Novacaine tends to wear off quickly on me. And from the evaluation to the completed root canal, I never doubted the expertise of the staff and Dr. Hens. They have this cool 3-D image thing and they do the x-rays in your chair so it is much simplified. She also takes the time to explain everything and answer all your questions. I never felt rushed. I have been putting up with a lower standard of care for far too long and I highly recommend this office if you have any insecurities or fears or hesitations about the work you need done. I was told by the dentist that pain proved I needed a root canal. I was also told the endodontist on staff there did not do evaluations. That was not the kind of care I want. I need more than just a flippant explanation. We were talking about removing and excavating a nerve from my head, which happened to be in my molar.
