My wife and I were here last summer, twice, and had a nice lunch both times, enjoyed the dessert of the chocloate mole cake, etc. This afternoon however things were different. I enjoyed the service of the staff but the food, the Centro Crunch that I ordered, was middling at best. My wife enjoyed her meal, but my order arrived in an actual paper wrapper, if you can believe that. I never heard of such a thing. And the food was not what I would call hot to the taste. If there was any cheese on it at all, I never found it. The meat, what little there was of it, was seriously bland. There was no salsa or any other dip brought with the meal or complimentary chips which is standard in most Mexican restaurants. On top of that, we ordered two lemonades which were wonderful, but the ice filled the glass past half-full and the contents could not have been more than 6-8 ounces for $6 and then no refill. No refill? Seriously?? With the amount of beverage for that price the message is clear: don't make the same mistake twice. So sad. We make it a habit to support small businesses in our area. We don't like crossing any of our list, but in this case I'm afraid we'll just have to. Quality of this sort does not deserve to be rewarded. And why they discontinued something as popular as the mole cake is beyond me. The management is not taking the best interests of its customers to heart. It was as though they were saying to us, "You can do better, please go to another restaurant next time!" And that is exactly what we will do. read more

Let me start by saying that Mexican is my least favorite type of food so this was a pleasant surprise. Street parking is usually available around this location. Ordering is through your phone by scanning a QR code. You must order the beef birria taco and the jicama fries. The taco had a little spice to it so not for the weak palates but the dip that comes with it is divine. Save this for eating around friends and not a date because it's definitely messy. I used a lot of napkins. The jicama fries are perfectly crispy with an amazing aioli sauce. It's every flavor and texture you want from a thicker fry. GET THEM! I had to checkout the loved taco spot in NE, Centro! Location: it is on a very cute street with plenty of parking for a busy Friday night. The brewery next door will validate your parking for free. If you're looking for an authentic Mexican food experience this place is not it, however the food does taste good and it is a new-age spot with a fun menu. I'm not the biggest fan of Centro. To start it's a place where you order off a QR code at the table and someone brings the food out which I've never really been a fan of that ordering style. So make sure you bring your smart phone or you can't order anything. The tacos themselves do taste good. They have a variety of taco options and for the most part they are tasty. The problem is you order them individually and they are like $5 per taco. And one taco is not very large so you're going to need to order multiple and as you can guess the price adds up rather quickly. The tacos themselves are less authentic and more "fun" I would say. For example I don't think I've ever had a taco with pineapple and pickled onions on it before. There are other non-taco options as well, like the "crunches" which are a souped-up taco-bell super crunch wrap. These are good as well but hard to justify $14 for a crunch wrap. (And that's without a tip). Overall it is fun my main gripe is the ordering system and prices. The food tastes good and it is a fun atmosphere. read more

Centro is BY FAR a top-tier taco establishment. Do they have the best tacos in Minnesota? I believe so. In the words of my partner, "These are the best tacos in the Midwest." And he's absolutely right! I drive 60 minutes round trip just to have these and they are worth sitting in traffic. What makes Centro so wonderful is the fact that their tacos are incredibly flavorful, loaded with toppings, and the best part is all of the juices with each bite. They have so many options. The toppings on top are fresh with toppings like pickled red onions, chopped onions, fresh cilantro, and even a pineapple sauce on top of the carnitas taco (my absolute favorite). If you're considering going here, you have to. Order every taco on the menu, get some margaritas, and you're in for the flavorful time of your life. A friend and I visited today and there were some definite hits and some misses. The nacho chips were obviously freshly made and the salsa verde was a nice kick, which fits my Minnesota taste sensibilities. We both tried the taco trio with both of us ordering the Chicken Tinga, Baracoa tacos. My friend ordered the chorizo taco for his third while I went with the ground beef. Probably the best crunch wrap I've ever had in my life. This thing is 3x the size of a Taco Bell crunch wrap and packed with flavour in every bite. The duck tacos were exquisite too. Menu is fire here, so many things to choose from, so little stomach real estate. Ordering is by mobile/qr code and they charge you a service fee (not gratuity) so that's the only downside. First place, this place is credit card only, and you order on your cell phone from your table. Normally, I would just walk by and let the hipsters have this one. That being said, the staff was friendly, the food was great, and when I wanted to get a coffee at the venue next door, they let me bring it over since some items from their coffee shop are not on their restaurant menu. I went with a group of friends (4 total) on Tuesday 4/18/23 at 5pm. Ordering is all done on your phone by scanning the QR code on the table, so mingling with staff is minimal. The process can be a bit frustrating as there is no option to keep a tab open, instead you have to enter all your payment info every time you order something. Water is self-serve. Food is great, especially for the price you pay. My group order chips with queso and salsa (3 salsas come with the order, midwestern spice level) as appetizers, and most either went for the crunch wrap or quesadillas and I didn't hear any complaints. Bathrooms were spacious and clean. Free street parking with a small parking lot next to the restaurant. Really enjoyed my first experience at Centro last night. No reservations and seat yourself- but there is a lot of seating! We ate around 7:30 on a Tuesday and had no issues finding a desireable table. You then scan the menu to your phone and do all our ordering that way. The staff then brings out the food to your table using your table number- felt the process was very slick. We got chips and salsa trio for the table. I loved how much variety in flavor there was between the three salsa options. Also got a margarita and it was good- no complaints there, was strong and the right flavors, $10 though felt just a bit too steep for the size of drink so I personally wouldn't get again unless I was there for happy hour. My husband got Barbaroa tacos and thought they were great. Tacos range $3-$5 per taco here. What I think I was most impressed by- was the Centro salad which is what I ordered. Salads usually are a total hit or miss at taco spots and this was a HIT big time. It didn't feel like a random thrown together bland mess that I usually experience when I take this risk. No, it was thoughtfully crafted with the ingredients. Loved the peanut sesame salsa on it- never had anything like it before. And the lettuce was fresh! Something I usually don't experience when I order a salad at a place known for tacos. I got mine with chicken Tinga and was totally impressed with the size of salad and portion of meat. Ordered a few cocktails (so yummy), chips and salsa (all the salsas had some heat), and an assortment of tacos and the acclaimed Munchwrap (a play on Taco Bell's Crunch wrap Supreme). Everything was so tasty, but I always go for the Pescado (fish) taco when I come by this spot! It never disappoints! My only feedback is that they bring everything out as soon as it's ready, so we had everything we ordered in 10 minutes, BUT our appetizer came before our drinks (not my favorite) and then each individual item we ordered came out at a different time. If you're a fan of mezcal, this is the place to be. Good food and drinks. You can also order food from Vivir! We sat at the Centro bar and were able to order from both establishments. The DARK CARNITAS TACOS came with two tacos. It was good, not as flavorful as the other dishes I had. Wouldn't care to order again. Heard the BIRRIA TACOS are delicious, I'd order this next time. The CARNITAS IN ADOBO was a fav, would get this again next time...anything with grilled pineapple is a delight. YUCA FRIES are always really good, and it was yummy with the serrano ginger aioli. BRUSSELL SPROUTS were so good, would get again. That peanut sesame touch. We shared a MezCal/Tequila flight of 5. I like Mezcal cocktails, but don't have the palate for a tasting (I'm more of a sipping whisky gal). Ended up dumping what we couldn't finish into our cocktails. What a disaster of a restaurant! The service: QR code for putting in your order, but you're not given the password for the WiFi unless you flag someone down to get your phone to work. Then, the shrimp quesadilla I ordered is wet and greasy, with a side of rice in a tiny bowl that the server brought 15 minutes before the rest of the meal (you have to pay for the rice separately). The plates are too small for the food: you couldn't eat neatly if you wanted to. The bill for one person: close to thirty dollars. Shameful. The manager overheard me talking to the waiter, came over and listened to my complaints, and said nothing approaching an apology, didn't offer any way of making the experience palatable.
