My cousin and I were craving a margherita pizza. We found this place and looked through photos and saw that they have a brick oven where they bake all of their pizzas. We walked in and were served right away. Just an FYI, all of their pizzas are the same size and are 6 slices per pizza. They do not offer any other sizes. The staff is awesome and attentive, they are practicing social distancing, and all staff wears masks. We waited 15 minutes for our pizza to come out. It was piping hot. When I went to pick up my slice I noticed that it was watery, which is why I took off a star. Luckily, it didn't have time to become soggy and still very good. The crust is very thin with a thick outer crust. The crust was soft so no one should be leaving any leftover crusts!!! I wish they would've put more basil on top. I really hate to ding a place during this time, but the pizza we ordered for dinner was less than spectacular. Placed an order through Doordash for a pizza due to all the rave reviews. It unfortunately arrived late due to Doordash combining multiple orders together, causing the driver to have to wait for them all to be finished before delivering. I don't know where the fault lied exactly, whether it was with Doordash or with Centro, so I'm not docking the restaurant for the issue. We ordered a Diavola pizza consisting of tomato, mozzarella, nduja sausage, and basil. Biting into it, I could taste a bit of the spiciness from the pork, but it was mostly just an overwhelming saltiness that overpowered the whole pie. While the pie dough itself was well made and had a good texture, the flavor of the toppings left a lot to be desired. First time eating at Centro. It was really good pizza! Place isn't anything special- just a good family spot on Broadway in Burlingame. They have a couple of big TVs so you can watch sports. Great collection of NFL football helmets. The owner was friendly and the wait staff - very attentive. We ordered the Pizza Sapore (Prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula, burrata, olive oil). Neapolitan pizza is my favorite style of pizza. Since Tony Mangieri moved Una Pizza Napoletana from SF back to NYC, I've been searching for Neapolitan pizza in the Bay Area that rivals his. He was strict AF (no chili flakes, no substitutions, no meat) and his pizzas were expensive but carbs never tasted so good. Centro Pizza has been on my list to-go was hoping with all the raving reviews and overall 4.5 star reviews, this may be THE one. With COVID, they're been offering takeout, delivery (DoorDash) and recently added indoor (4 tables) and outdoor seating (2 tables). C O V I D S A F E T Y P R E C A U T I O N S * All staff wore their masks properly, nose and mouth completely covered. * Separate cups for "clean" and "used" pens. * Hand sanitizer available for customers. * Food served in takeout box with compostable plates and utensils provided. Water served in disposable cups. * All tables are socially distant (more than 6 feet) and the entrance doors were wide open to allow for plenty of fresh air. --Since I had TT with me, we sat outside but it may be safer to sit inside if they're not busy. With the narrow sidewalk, it was difficult for passerbys to socially distance from sidewalk tables and many didn't wear masks. Immediately as I walked in, they greeted me with smiles as if I was an old friend. This place reminded me of mom and pop pizzerias on the east coast. As far as Napolitano style pizza on the peninsula goes, I can't think of better. This is often my go-to. The service is fast and friendly as it should be. I'm able to drive there on break for work, order, dine in, eat and drive back to work within 30 minutes as long as it's not too busy. It helps that I don't work too far, but wish they opened for lunch so I could do it more often since I rarely work during their open hours. The marinara romana style was probably the biggest surprise for me. It's rare I order a pizza without any cheese, it just seems weird, but it's packed full of flavor and delicious. The margherita is my go-to and probably the best option to try when judging a napolitano style place because if they can't get that right, the rest probably aren't worth it. Pizza Sapore is another option if I want a bit more toppings, but other than that I don't dive into the other options much. If you get the Diavolo, I recommend asking if they can change the sausage to the more traditional Italian sausage option they have. Maybe it's just me, I just think NDUJA is a odd choice on a pizza. Guysssss finally something delicious opened up on Broadway! This place is awesome. They have a huge wood fired pizza oven, and the pizzas have that real wood fired dough. The size of the pizza is 12" cut into 6 servings--enough for our party of 3 with medium appetites. We ordered garlic knots and their namesake "Centro" pizza (pork cheeks, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes & capers). I thought this Neapolitan pizza fell short. The crust may have been chewy, but ours bordered on soggy. Additionally, our pizza barely had any visible pork cheek; we thought we were served the wrong pizza and had to ask the server and he pointed out a few crispy, blackened strands on top--resembling burnt, caramelized onions. We were envisioning more "meat," but what we got was a cheese, cherry tomatoes & a caper pizza. The menu also indicated it had chili peppers on it, but that was non-existent. The chili peppers came in the shape of a shaker jar given to you at the table--very disappointing. The garlic knots were even more disappointing--no evidence of garlic on the bread at all--4 small baked buttery, garlic powder bread twists is what we were served. We were expecting for the bread to be covered in garlic & chopped parsley, but it was not--you be the judge and look at the photos. I like a crispy thin crust so I specifically asked for it to be cooked well done, and asked for extra crispy. It was quite possibly the worse pizza I ever had at that price point. Undercooked, soggy, lacked flavor, and at best, on par with grocery store frozen pizza. Will not be giving it a second chance. There are too many better pizzerias out there. True Neopolitan pizza in my hood! Funny story - we had literally been waiting forever for Centro to open. I am talking back when the inside was gutted to putting an opening soon sign to only doing eat in to FINALLY trying it! I am a crust girl, and I judge based on crust. This crust was nearly perfect - chewy, bready (but not too doughy), bubbly, and hot. It hit the spot and got my pizza craving going again. I want more right now! My one comment is I wish the middle was a tiny bit more crispy, but I know since the pizza is thin that sometimes it is a bit softer. If I am being nitpicky, I also would have loved a few more pieces of basil. But, that crust was near perfection! Good quality wine list, and I liked the attention to detail on the desserts. The ice cream had a layer of coco power and nuts and was well presented (chocolate sauce decoration). They also did a nice job with the interior decorations. The walls are brick and the decorations create a pretty clean and classic vibe. You walk in and your eyes are drawn to the giant pizza oven. Service was polite! They don't rush you at all, which I always appreciate. Anyway, Centro is an all around super awesome place. Few complaints, and my pizza juices are flowing. Order the Diavola and the garlic flatbread from a hotel and it arrived stone cold. Door dash did the delivery, so not sure that's the pizza place fault. After reheating it, the Diavola had some really funky flavor maybe "kalamata olives" that was so overpowering, I tasted no sausages. The overpowering taste was not great and not good at all. Was expecting meat on the pizza, and there was none. Stay away from this option.
