I'm giving CenturyLink five stars because of an unusual customer-service matter. I'm in one of Oregon City's historic homes and for years have had a dead telephone land-line cable running from the house to the big line over our street. I've wanted to take down that dead cable but the city doesn't have authority and has told me to find out who owns the line. For two years, I've talked to cable companies and former phone companies only to get a bunch of "not our problem" responses. We're having the house painted this month and I need to get rid of that dead line and its junction box on the side of the house. I contacted OC's Public Works folks again, who again said they have no authority but suggested maybe contacting CenturyLink. I'd done that many months ago but decided to try it again. For whatever reason, this time somebody listened. CenturyLink scheduled one of their linemen to take a look. Yesterday, a CenturyLink fellow named Josh showed up, quickly snipped the old line over the street and even volunteered to remove the old junction box from the house exterior. He was quick, friendly, and totally cooperative. Keep in mind, this is after two years of a frustrating runaround from other companies. So, in this case, even though I'm not one of their customers, I give CenturyLink a well-deserved thumbs up! read more

I JUST set up a business account with Century Link based on my company owner saying he had a good experience with them. THEY SUCK! I have had the service for less than 10 days, got a bill already and cannot log into my account online. The link to pay them worked, but the password rest link I was sent 18 TIMES didn't.. There is NO WAY to even reset my password - I just keep getting the same error message again and again, we cannot provide this service at this time. I called and chatted online with 4 different service reps and they all said the issue is on my end!!! They are the absolute worst internet company on the planet and I regret ever doing any business with them. read more

AWFUL customer service. We had Century Link for over three years, and I regret not switching immediately. Service blinked out regularly, and it's impossible to get anyone on the phone to discuss an issue. Had to wait in an online chat for HOURS in a chat line as #137, and it kept booting me out of the chat! So I had to start all over again four times the first night, and 3 times the next morning! They never followed through with the timeline of repairs. The final straw was the latest outage--they told us the internet was working again after being out two days, and when it wasn't and we waited in their chat for hours and for multiple days, they told us they couldn't repair it online after all and they'd send someone in a week to come repair it in person. I don't really understand how the owner of Centurylink isn't in jail for life (I mean I understand it's because he's insanely rich, but that's the only reason). We have never even remotely had a good experience, in any way possible. Any simple question or task can take hours, days, weeks and even months to resolve. I'm speaking of very simple things that normal decent companies can remedy immediately. No one in any store anywhere at anytime ever the last four years can help or knows anything. Calling or chatting online can cause you to wait around hours, getting forwarded countless times to not a single person that can ever help you. It's one of the most impressive scams I've ever seen. I don't recall the contract saying it could waste numerous days of every single year. The CEO of Centurylink is Jeffrey K Storey and he's worth 143 million dollars. He basically has a monopoly (at least in many places), pays his very unhappy employees nothing, and gives a product that is complete trash. In my opinion, the great evils of the last century that also in Hitler, should include this garbage human. Here's an example. We just needed our cable line taken down to cut a tree down. 20 years ago you'd just call, wait on hold for ten minutes, schedule an appointment and it's done. Now it takes longer than walking miles to the nearest Centurylink store and back. It takes longer than skilled workers cutting down an entire tree, removing the stump and hauling it all away. And that's just to set an appointment, that doesn't include the fact that the guy taking down the wire doesn't even show up and you have to go through this nonsense again. Why don't we take a break from creating cell phones and create internet companies that don't make you want to kill yourself. As a poor person I would pay three times what I pay for a good internet company. Oh and by the way, my internet is garbage and only getting worse. read more

If I can give this zero stars or lessI certainly would. I had to take off work for a service call only to find out waiting all day long, no technician show up. I got a text indicating that they were here but when I looked out no one was there. Then I get another text saying that they're not able to complete the order and needed to reschedule for the following day. Only to provide me with the same lame 8 to 5 window. I cannot afford to take multiple days off of work for a company who does not care about its customers. Next to Comcast, CenturyLink is far worst when it comes to customer service and the quality of technical service they provide. The service call windows they give are too vague causing customers to take time off of work (sometimes the whole day) with little disregard that a custom may have had to take the day off without pay CenturyLink refuses to offer any compensation for your inconvenience All you get is a simple "I'm sorry for your inconvenience". Then they only offered one day credit which amounts to $2.65 of which I make far more than that on a daily basis that CenturyLink had cost me. Therefore CenturyLink cost me money today. I do not recommend anybody using their services at all whether it be for DSL internet or Fiber. The immense aggravation that you will have to endure is just not worth it. Go somewhere else. My only fault is that I failed to look at the customer reviews prior to establishing service.​ read more

I checked the CenturyLink site to see if our address qualified for gig speed internet. Much to my surprise it said it did. I booked the install, which required a $285 payment (including equipment and first month charge.) The day of the install came. No installation technician showed up. I called CenturyLink and they said it didn't show up on their calendar. They confirmed I was getting the gig speed and booked me for a week later. Since the window is 9 am - 1 pm, I decided to take the day off to make sure I was home for the install. That morning, I got a knock on the door. It was the install technician. He asked me if I signed up for the gig speed. I said yes. He said our house could not get gig speed after all. The best we could get was 20 mbps. Sorry. Obviously I was stunned. But to make matters worse, it took 3 calls to CenturyLink to get my refund, two weeks later. it's really too bad, because I was so ready to switch from Comcast. But it turns out that CenturyLink is just as inept. If you want to get gig speed, I would triple check with them before signing up. Even then you may get hosed. read more

Centurylink likes to charge dead people for unused services. You cannot reach a human without an account number, which makes it nearly impossible to cancel the account of a deceased person when you don't have the account number. I had to use the website chat services to do. The rep was nice, but I was told that since I "didn't notify them in a timely manner" about her death, they could not reimburse me for the charges to her account since that date. I just got the death certificates today, and figured there would be no point in contacting anyone with a claim that someone who has a different last name than me had passed away. Surely they'd want proof, right? Wrong. They didn't even ask for a death certificate! Just her name, address, and email. Nowhere to send a death certificate, no one higher up to talk to about this, and no way to get to a freaking human if you don't have an account number!!! read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. The only way to reach someone by phone is if you're willing to sit on hold for at least 10-15 minutes. Their "chat" operators are "unavailable." I ended up with Centurylink as part of a bundled package with DirecTV. I was supposed to have my broadband turned on today and was told the modem would be delivered by 8:00 this morning. After waiting for someone to answer their phone, I was told that UPS would deliver the modem, but she couldn't tell me when. She's allegedly trying to find that out now. I have now been on the phone - listening to ads - for 18 minutes. Grrrrrrr..... --------------------------- Two days later...it's Sunday. I was told by the person on Friday (after approximately 25 minutes on the phone) that my modem would be delivered that day by UPS, but she was also sending a second modem by FedEx for Saturday delivery in case the original one didn't show. What do you know...no modem on Friday. So I called again Saturday (and, by the way, the only phone number you can call on a weekend is to order new services - no existing customer service is available. A very nice young man actually gave me the UPS tracking number and told me the modem was supposed to be delivered that day (Saturday). I was not exactly shocked to find there was no delivery. If they treat their new customers this way, I can't imagine how poorly they treat existing customers. I am going to contact DirecTV and see what other options I have for internet service. It brings to mind one of Bart Simpson's classic lines: "Until now, I did not realize something could both blow and suck at the same time." Well, Bart, that would be Centurylink. When I finally did get the modem, my signal was so poor I was almost unable to work - e.g., email would just hang in cyberspace for 10-15-more minutes before being sent. Crazy. We have since switched to Comcast/Xfinity and could not be happier. The (very nice) guy showed up on time with the modem, hooked everything up, and tested it to make sure it worked. We now have a *fantastic*, fast signal. Oh yes, and real, live humans answer their phones. Promptly. Go figure... read more

Worst customer service ever. Don't provide help over the phone only over chat and their Internet went down three times in one and ahalf hours and I never got my any of my questions answered and then they were closed for the end of the day for the whole weekend. Do not Century Link as your provider if you have any other choice read more

Do NOT use this service. My wife and I made an inquiry about their service and before we even rec'd the keys to our home, they delivered A starter package our new home. It was never installed because of the difficulty to obtain service within our area. DIRECTV and the whole bundled had canceled on us. We returned all their starter kits and now they are billing us over and over and OVER again for $400 for a service I inquired about and never had installed. I have called, messaged them and emailed them many times. After hearing my dispute, they transfer me and disconnect so I kept calling for about 2 hrs straight and messaging them. They completing ignored me and threaten to put us in collections on something we never agreed to have installed and we never signed a contract but we keep getting billed $400 and this is JUST for internet. Who would ever agree to pay $200 per month for internet in your home?!!! They are very crooked and dishonest. They don't even deserve one star. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE!!! read more

Very disappointed in my decision to switch from Comcast did not receive the promised pricing, and after 3 phone calls and each call ending in a higher price service, I will change back at the end of the year,\ The service required more holes in the wall and wiring than Comcast, the service is similar, possible more glitches in the prism television, unable to be sure. My favorite parts about CenturyLink: 1- i spent an hour on the phone verifying my address so i could just get an appointment. 2- my wife called three different numbers provided to her through the website and other departments just to talk to customer service 3- my wife then spent 45 min trying to get an answer to the apparently impossible question of "can we pay with a check" 4- i got frustrated, hung up, and had another 20 min conversation before we heard "yes" 5- I'm waiting around all morning forgoing all my errands waiting for the installation service to show 6- now I'm sitting at work realizing i have to probably wait another week or two IF i decide we should go through all of this again. 7- they never called nor emailed even though the sales rep took down my phone # and email. Why didn't I check Yelp before moving to Century Link? I called CenturyLink but never dealt with the Oregon City store. I was very careful with my questions before I agreed to an Internet/phone package. "No cost increase for 3 years guaranteed, no contract, no termination fee, $64.95 per month." I questioned them on the phone regarding any unmentioned additional fees of any sort, I asked about additional taxes, which I knew were not included in this price. I'm not new at this so I know the additional taxes would be between $5 - $15 per month and I asked multiple times what taxes or fees would be included beyond the $64.95 and they assured me that they only add mandatory taxes imposed by government and that my monthly bill would most likely normally be within a few dollars of $70.00. My first month was the only one under $100.00. All others since have been over $100.00. Century Link lied to me. read more

Now they have been running a hard inquiry on my credit report and it has impacted my score. Nobody can find my account info and they say my account # is used by somebody else. I would give them zero stars if I could. The worst customer service, with extremely limited hours. Their service windows take up a 5 hours time slot where you are stuck at home waiting for them, and then they are 2 HOURS late, and can't even fix the problem. They claim to have a 30 day money back guarantee if you aren't satisfied, but good luck getting your money back. We have been arguing with them on a daily basis for weeks now, but we still have a balance on our account, and we never even activated our internet! Run away from Century Link. Do not believe anything their customer service agents state. The first two lied or mid-informed me with a price, timeframe for installation, and their management refused to give me the price they quoted me. The manager didn't seem to care about the service I got. Also if Directv transfers a call to Century Link for bundled service, you won't get a correct price quote. To get the price they quote, you have to call Century Link first, then they transfer you to Directv to get the quote. They will NEVER tell you that, and if you don't ask for that service in the correct order you are out of luck. By the way, they gave me a four hour window to show up. After five hours, I called and their customer service told me you need to be there for eight hours. After I hung up I was irate and called back a hour later. A customer service person named Cassie apologized for the service I received, and told me the information I received from previous calls was incorrect. You didn't need to wait at all. This service person is only to install your service from the street. She also apologized for price quote which wasn't correct. read more
