Normally I avoid Chinese restaurants, but came here on a recommendation and I am glad I did. Not only was the service good, but also the food was fresh. I got one of their lunch specials which was a good price. The only reason I give four stars instead of five is the location. Rarely does a Chinese restaurant make food as colorful and with finesse as CF Cheng. If you don't know, they actually have two menus. One with a safe offering of American-Chinese food, and the other a wide offering of authentic Chinese classics. My personal favorites are: -steamed fish(their seafood is always fresh), if you don't know how to order this, just ask what's in season -stir fried seasonal vegetables (currently ong choy is my go to) -salt and pepper chicken wing ...served with rice of course. Besides my own mother's cooking, it's probably the best Chinese food I've had in America. I'm surprised they don't already have a Michelin star. I'm very hesitant when trying new Chinese restaurants because they never meet my expectations. This is the second one I've tried in Natomas that has been a big NO. Ordered cream cheese crab fried wontons (crab Rangoon) and it's a total lie! NO CRAB. It's just green onion and maybe carrot? From what I can tell. I make them better myself at home. Food was ok. The pork fried rice was not flavorful. The rice appeared white and unflavored as was the pork. I requested Sesame Beef which is off menu but they said they could make. Small restaurant, less than 10 tables inside. There were two servers working and it seemed busy around 4ish. Got seated for a table for two but wasn't given a Menu. After waiting awhile we had to get up and grab the menu ourselves that was lying around nearby. Took some time for service. After ordering, we were automatically given forks and had to ask for chopsticks. The portion size of our order isn't small but also not huge but upon scouting the room that might differ because other tables had mounds of food on their plate in comparison. The shrimp fried rice flavor wise was on the plain side. The Sichuan shrimp barely had any sauce in it. The vegetable chow mein and Egg drop soup was just ok. Maybe we came on an "off" night. We were searching for a good place to eat after coming back from a business trip and we decided to try this place based on the review rating. It was a late lunch so probably missed the rush. There were a couple of customers already eating their food. We ordered from their "Lunch Combination" menu which comes with chow mein or rice. The price seemed reasonable. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen, but our food took a little while. But it was worth the wait because our food was delicious, so delicious that my colleague had to order something to go. Review During Covid: I personally am not a huge fan of Chinese food that's why I've driven by this place for years and never step foot inside or ordered anything from CF Cheng before. I've always just ordered from the Poke place next door. However, I was craving some dim sum and was not about to go to Yue Huang since I had a bad experience there. I also figured that a smaller restaurant like CF Cheng would need more support during this time than Yue Huang. After browsing over their humongous menu on Yelp, I zoned in on the small dim sum selection, but very affordable prices. I can see the prices and large menu being very dangerous. I had to limit myself. I called and placed an order for Siu Mei, steamed pork dumplings, bbq pork buns, Har Gow, and Singapore style vermicelli. In about 25 minutes, I went to pay and pick up my order. Inside, there were chairs spaced out for those who are wanting to wait for their order and also a large table with bottles of hand sanitizer for the customers to use. Staff there had masks on the whole time and kept their distance. After taking the food home and opening up all the items, they were all piping hot, tasted fresh, and were delicious. I also got some chili sauce to go with my food. I think out of everything that I ordered, my favorite were the BBQ Pork Buns. The Singapore Style Vermicelli was huge in portion and came with many different proteins like eggs, shrimp, pork, and etc. I would definitely come back and try out the other items on their menu for sure now that I've tried CF Cheng out. My family and I enjoy the food here. However, we got to the restaurant at 8:40pm and they asked if we were dining in and we informed them we would like to just do a to-go order. We waited 10 mins for them to come and take our order they then came and said, "we not serving anymore". We asked them why not!? And they repeated the same answer. Been here many times. We always call in first to place to-go orders ahead of time so that way we dont have to wait too long when we arrive. Unfortunately, everytime we call in and ask them how long it would take, they would give us a certain time and we would come in about 5 mins after, however, each time we come in, the food is never prepared yet so we have to wait for them to make it, which is not acceptable because this WASTED our time. While waiting for our food, we see walk-in customers just barely ordered and just paid, but they get their food first. This is not good for business. What is the point of calling in ahead to order if they will only cook it when we arrive? Such a waste of time and we wont be coming back anymore. The first couple time that this happened we were ok because we thought that they did cook it but it just took too long, but in reality, they didnt cook it yet until we arrive. Very bad for business! Have you ever wanted Chengdu style and then feel terrible because you are *settling?* That is horrible to be able to say, but I've had amazing Chengdu style food and was really excited to have found this spot open on 12/25 only to be led to a confused order, long waits upwards of 55 minutes for a order places 30 minutes in advance and then food that was filling, but not very tasty, or made with quality ingredients. Most of the food seemed very blended with what is deemed *okay* for reputable Chinese food, so I am terribly sorry if this is one of your favorite spots, but I have good news...there is better out there and we hope you continue to grow. Flex the search for good food, and won't be revisiting this spot. Look a little deeper and you'll find some authentic Canto cuisine. Salted egg shrimp is fire , stir fried snow pea leaf with garlic is too. Food comes out piping hot with that dragon breath and flavors are on level with some of my favorite Chinese joints in the Bay Area. I woulda never expected by looking at the place, it's tiny, but again it hits above it's weight class. Wanna try salt and pepper crab, but Ima wait til season. SERVICE 4* Servers are courteous and accomodating. It's a small place, but it gets busy with take out and walk-ins. There's usually only two ladies working and sometimea they look overwhelmed. But no bad experiences. VALUE 4* There's cheaper Chinese food out there for sure, but prices are reasonable and well worth the quality. Portion sizes are decent too. LOCATION 4* I'm a large shopping plaza near the arena with plenty of parking. Dining room is well lit and clean. It is small though, fewer than 10 tables and only one large table so probably not good for large groups. RECOMMENDATION Stir fry snow pea leaf with garlic and salted egg shrimp are must tries. The food reminds me of our favorite Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area near Union City. Food is always fresh and tasty. We ordered vegetarian and fish entrees. Our favorite are the fried tofu and braised tofu- make sure to say "vegetarian". I also enjoy the black bean fish and other vegetable entrees. Service is good, quick and attentive. The indoor dining is small, few tables and tight. We always order out. This a popular place for locals. We had a delicious and authentic dinner here! This place is small, but their prices are very reasonable and they serve very generous portions. We were the only table initially, but it filled up as our meal went on. There were also plenty of people coming in to pick up take out orders. We ordered a chicken stir fried noodles, kung pao chicken, garlic spare ribs, and a fish and vegetable dish. The kung pao chicken was delicious, and had plenty of flavor without having to fry or bread the chicken. We've done take out here a couple of times and it's always good. Last night we had general chicken which had just enough sauce, vegetable chow mein, and vegetable spring rolls. And we also got the bbq boas and honey garlic pork chop, as well as honey walnut shrimp. We also got crab cheese wantons but they tasted. A lot like onion not much cream cheese or crab. My boyfriend liked everything but I only liked the chowmein. The second time we come, the chowmein taste completely different. Not as good. Maybe it needed to be cooked longer because veggies were almost raw. We also got beef broccoli, pork dumplings and chicken boas. If you like vegetables to be a little softer you have to ask otherwise they are very crunchy for every dish. Bun boas were good but pork dumplings Not as good. Saturday vs a Sunday of the next week. Sorry, who's writing these reviews. This was some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. And I've been waiting a long time to try this place and it was disappointing. The food here is hot or miss, I say this because some of the menu items I have had either been really good or did not like at all. Their chow mein is delicious and their walnut shrimp is best I've had at any other restaurant in Sacramento. The fried rice is meh, the king pao is not good at all it has a very harsh bamboo smell. The broccoli beef is very good, and their crab won tons are not very good the cream cheese was almost soup like did not like them at all, lastly the general chicken was awful, it was mushy and tasted more like sweet and sour, Still want to try more things on the menu, especially the authentic Hong Kong style menu that they have. The restaurant itself is very small so I would suggest take out if you have a large family. The service was great, the ladies are very helpful. read more

Why the 1 star though? Here we go: 1. We came and sat down at 745pm but didnt get to eat until 1 hr later. So why the 1 hr wait? They served other people first that came in later. There were 2 table that came in before us so they got their food first which was acceptable and fair, but people that came in after us gets their food first? Not fair. Also, the people that came in to order to-go got their food first. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. Really bad customer services. There was a big table that came in after us and got all their food items quickly while we still sat and waited for ours. This really annoyed me and to top it off, once our food finally came out it was WRONG, so now we had to wait again. 2. Dirty utensils, cups, etc. Make sure you guys watch out before putting these utensils in your mouth. Overall, very bad experience and wont be coming back at all and will not refer anyone here.
