Stopped by for an after work dinner. This is a very typical Chinese American restaurant that looks a bit dated, but with cheap food and huge portions. General tso's combo plate: C+ It was a huge mound of food so I'm happy about that, it's a good value for the price. The food was on the greasy side. My husband and I have ordered food from Dragon Palace for the last four years. The first three years we thought, this place is pretty good! Now I am a huge critic when it comes to Chinese food because I lived in New England for 20 years and worked in the best Chinese restaurant for two. So I have had the absolute best!!! Over the past year and especially two days ago, ON MY BIRTHDAY, we had the worst food ever! Our sweet & sour chicken was so dried out it went in the bin along with the spring rolls that only had glass or vermicelli noodles in it, no carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, or flavor. For a little place that's is a hole in the wall it was DELICIOUS. it was empty and the inside is t that amazing of environment but sometimes those are the best restaurants. My husband got the General Chicken combination plate and we shared the cream cheese (no crab) wontons, war wonton soup and I had some jalapeno chicken. The war wonton soup is probably the best I've ever had. Flavorful and amazing. The wontons were light and crisp, not thick wrapping like some places. Food is amazing and portions are huge. Took a while to find a consitent restaurant to go to that always serves chow mein the same delicious taste everytime. I am not a big fried rice fan, but it look like it had too much soy sauce. The only thing I don't like is the overflowing sauce from the plates making a mess all over the place. After passing by many days finally decided to go in and try it out, and I'm glad i did! Solid Chinese food for a good price! The food was flavorful and they gave a decent amount. This place is a bit of a hidden gem and can easily be overlooked in an older shopping center off Northgate, but don't give it a second thought. Give them a try, you won't regret it! I've had this place many times over the years, and it wasn't until recently a friend brought me back. It's one of the only good chinese restaurants left in Sacramento! Let me give the compliment that even after years the quality and taste is still amazing and hasn't changed. The hot n sour soup is amazing especially if you're feeling under the weather. The jalapeño chicken is my ultimate favorite chicken dish. The sesame chicken isn't bad. But there's just something about the sauce on the jalapeño chicken that keeps you coming back for more. This is also one of the only chinese restaurants that still allows indoor dining after COVID. The small indoor seating leaves a warm family feel and the staff is very friendly. Had the whole family in town for thanksgiving, so of course the night before we ordered up Chinese food! I heard it's under new owners so I got nervous, but they came through! Everything we ordered had to be gluten free due to some allergy in the family, but everything was top notch. We went around the table and asked what everyone's favorite dish was and everyone gave a different answer. We batted 1,000 tonight on the ordering. We got the house combo chow fun, broccoli beef, kung pao chicken, orange chicken, sesame chicken, sweet and sour pork, generals pork, and honey walnut shrimp. Everything was phenomenal and everyone was happy! I'm glad the new owners are doing great! My favorite was the chow fun. Okay, so this is my first time writing a review on here and here's what I have to say. My first time trying this place out with some coworkers and I ordered the general chicken combo plate. When I chewed into the "chicken" it hardly taste or feel like chicken. The texture is soo off and the inside looks like a imitation of chicken only, probably mixed with gluten and soy. It doesn't have the stinginess that regular chicken has and it also has a very gelatin like texture. It's overpowered by the oil and sauce so it makes it a little harder to tell but definitely the texture isn't just chicken and the fried rice has no flavor just extra oily. You can definitely find better Chinese food elsewhere. read more

I love their combination plates here! I tried the orange chicken with chow mein and the kung pao chicken with fried rice which were both amazing. Portions are very generous here! I liked that the chicken wasn't too heavy on the sauce, and they use egg noodles for the chow mein. The meals come with spring rolls which are piping hot. If third time is a charm, the charm today was not made of authentic Jade. This is my 3rd update/review of this place. Ever since my last two reviews, I usually stick to "plain rice" if I order from here, because it is the most simple and consistent basic food. Basic is safe when I don't want a repeat of not so yummy memories. Literally, I would order and ONLY order a side of plain/steamed rice. Tonight I decided to treat myself, and order a combo plate. I ordered Mongolian Beef, and instead of pork fried rice, I asked for steamed rice. It comes with chicken chow-mein, one egg roll, plastic fork, and fortune cookie. I got Mongolian Chicken (not Beef like I asked for), the darkest Chicken chow-mein I've ever seen, and the plastic fork with one egg roll and fortune cookie. I called them. The guy who took my order, immediately minimized the mistake: "Well they cost the same, but chicken/beef I guess is just a matter of preference really". No kidding, is that the reason there's a menu?! After he minimized the mistake they made, he apologized and asked "well is it ok this time?" Most places are first going to say "bring it back!" Not this place. I said "yes" because I don't want to drive back, spend more time explaining, or giving a 4th chance. Minimize, apologize, ask the customer to be ok with the mistake. It sounds good, in theory. If you are someone that had no preference. And goodness, the chow-mein, was made with way too much Hoisin sauce already mixed in. After three small plastic forkfuls, I couldn't stomach any of it. About 80% of my meal went right into the trash. The best part? The steamed rice. PRO TIP: instead of spending +$10 for the steamed rice, just order it by itself as a side. read more

Solid place and well priced but will need to give them another try. One combo plate and an order of the tomato beef chow Mein and Scallion beef. Scallion beef was good and chow mein was okay but combo plate didn't really seem fresh due to a wait. Can't rule them out and definitely interested in some other menu items so this is just a place holder til next time. read more

Authentic as it comes, I love this place first time trying it. Service was good super sweet. It's kind of hot in there, but I took my food to go if they had air condition I would probably stay and eat, but otherwise I love this place. Look, I judge a place by their rice, cuz everything starts with the rice and ends with the rice. So if you don't care about Joe rice? You ain't care bout yo food. It's too bad I did Postmates delivery instead of dining in, but I did had the chance to speak with someone on the phone before I placed the order, and he sounded like he might have been the owner. Great food and price is right. Was on a search with Mapo tofu with minced pork & fish maw soup with crab! Bingo!!!! They also have roast duck & Peking duck. How cool is that? They offer family dinner as well for an amazing price. I would've given this place a 5 star if their fish maw soup had chunkier fish naw pieces.
