Chowa Bowl was one of our dinner stops this past Friday in Morro Bay, and overall it was a solid experience--with one slightly annoying caveat. I ordered the Morro Miso Ramen (without the egg to keep it vegan) and added extra tofu. The broth was rich and comforting, with roasted garlic, miso, and chili oil bringing a really nice depth of flavor. The pickled corn was sweet and Fresno peppers added a bright, tangy kick that kept every bite interesting, and I appreciated how thoughtfully layered the bowl was overall. BUT... let's talk tofu math for a second. The bowl normally comes with just one piece of tofu (about 3-3.5 inches), which already feels a little light for a ramen. Since I removed the egg, I added three more pieces for $4.25. Totally fine...except now I'm paying extra to replace something I didn't want in the first place. Meanwhile, my husband's poke bowl, about the same price was absolutely loaded with fish. I mean... I get it, but also... I don't get it. Why are those of us who don't eat animals always doing bonus round pricing just to get a balanced meal? All that said, the food itself was good. My husband loved his bowl so much he was ready to go back again the next day. Me? I was more in the mood to explore other spots around Morro Bay, mostly because I'm still side-eyeing that tofu situation.Delicious, but the protein upcharge logic is...a choice.
Tasty ramen spot in the area. It's no Hiro Nori for sure, but their ramen has a sweet and spicy taste that is good enough for a second visit. There is plenty of seating in the back and an outdoor seating area under an awning for dog owners.

Parking right on the street and went into a lovely little restaurant with a fabulous decor. Order at the counter. Not a lot of seating. Wine and beer menu. We both ordered the miso ramen. Wish we had shared it because it was HUGE. Portions are large and fresh. Felt pricey, but isn't everything these days? Roughly $20 a bowl. Also order a kebab of shrimp which was delicious. (PS I initially typed brochette and then wondered if I was wrong, looked it up, I wasn't. Now, you too, will learn the difference on your next search.) The ramen was good, it was sweet as another reviewer noted, but I liked the flavor. My son, not so much. Not sure if this is a miso thing or what? Anyway, still a nice place with food that tastes like it was made after you ordered with fresh ingredients.
Although Chōwa Bowl is a small eatery with a limited menu, their dishes have a high flavor profile. We tried the Rock Shoyu Ramen and Beef Bulgogi Bowl and both were enjoyable and full of flavor. The interior has an inviting decor, but seating is limited. There are also outdoor tables along the side the building. The Rock Shoyu Ramen had a good amount of noodles along with three good-sized pieces of pork belly (albeit a bit fatty), pickled fresno peppers & shallots, topped with green onion, an ajitama, umami-rich egg and a sheet of nori. The broth was complex with the duck fat and togarashi; it is noted the broth contains pork, chicken and dasmi. It was excellent. Their Beef Bulgogi Bowl was quite good. It consisted of four char grilled filet mignon skewers (2 pieces per skewer), kimchi, shredded carrots & daikon, pickled red onion, avocado slices, over herbed brown rice and topped with green onions, black sesame seeds, basil and a gochujang glaze. The portion was generous and quite filling. Service was friendly, and our selections were delivered in short order from the kitchen.

We chose this place as it was the first we passed by with outdoor seating and available parking. You line up inside to order, they bring your order to you, then you clean up afterwards.
Great little find in Morro Bay. The Okie poke is definitely generous in size - shareable for two. The miso ramen is good, a little on the spicy side which isn't bad. A lot of stuff in it, more than a usual ramen place. Overall a good find.
Came for lunch on a weekday and was able to get easy street parking right outside. You get a menu and order and pay at the counter just inside the door, pick up your utensils and drinks and find a seat inside or outside. They bring the food out fairly quickly and check back with you after a few minutes to see if you need anything. The food is really flavorful with generous portions and reasonable prices. We had the steak skewers, which were moist and juicy, 6 bites on 3 little skewers for $8.50. I had the Okie Poke, with avocado, carrots, ginger, pickled cucumber slices, and a good portion of tuna and rice with a yummy sauce. My husband had the pork belly ramen which had a really delicious broth and a good amount of noodles. I highly recommend this place for a filling, delicious meal.

Sooo good, first time at Chowa Bowl. I had the Ahi tuna poke bowl. Every flavor of ingredients came through, so good. I'll have to make it to the one in Pismo so I can support locally there. Straight forward - order at front, seat yourself, bust your own dishes. Clean and pretty interior. Even better ramen! Unique taste, charred pork belly. Kids ramen is same size without the toppings which is a bonus. Better dinners in that area. read more

First night staying in Morro Bay and I stopped here for dinner with the family. I ordered the poki bowl and the boys ordered ramen- one ordered the Shoyu one and the other Miso. Cute little place with lovely decor- very inviting. You order the minute you come inside. It's very casual and when you are done you put your empty dishes away in the back. If you order a drink it's self serve as well. The poki bowl was abundant and I got half rice and half greens, the cubes fish was fresh. I just wished couple of sauces were offered such as eel or teriyaki sauce, ponzu sauce, or spicy mayo sauce on the side. The sauces would have given it the extra life. Now the ramens....complete passes on both. Noodle texture was probably the best thing for both ramens. Both broth was too sweet and it didn't pass for me as a tasty ramen of any sort. Edible...sure, but I wouldn't come back to eat this. read more

A very cozy and intimate place (although the music out of the kitchen tends to clash with the mellow in-restaurant music! Excellent ramen that is so delicious, it's become like a comfort food for me. If you're Asian and want ramen, please do not come to this place -- it is not authentic ramen at all. I'm Asian and love Asian food, so I was really looking forward to trying this spot, but it was a huge disappointment. The restaurant itself is small and cozy with about six tables, and the décor is very cute. The staff was friendly and accommodating, which I appreciated. We ordered the Shoyu Ramen, and it didn't taste like Shoyu Ramen whatsoever. The broth was extremely heavy, overly seasoned, and tasted more like soy sauce than pork broth. The pork chashu was hard and dry-- no fat at all. The only good part was the noodles -- they were made well and had a nice chewy texture. My husband even said it tasted like instant packet ramen. It was so overpowering that we couldn't finish the bowl. We also ordered the Bulgogi over rice, and it was NOT Bulgogi at all -- just cubed meat on skewers. This should NOT be labeled Bulgogi! The sauce was spicy which isn't supposed to be. Very misleading and I recommend you renaming this dish. Once we got back to LA, the first thing we did was get real ramen to make up for it. There's a small parking lot in the back, and they have a self-serve drink station with a hot water dispenser, but you have to return your dishes yourself -- it's not full service. Overall, cute space and nice staff, but the food completely missed the mark. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Asian food, especially ramen . read more

I know this is a poke and ramen shop--and both of those items are solid, to be sure--but the Burrata Salad is where it's at! I go there specifically for the salad. Generous amount of Burrata cheese, mixed greens, the most delicious roasted beets and butternut squash, shaved fennel, cherry tomato, pickled corn, shaved watermelon radish (so cute--looks like watermelon!), house pickled shallots, herb, black sesame seed and yuzu ginger vinaigrette. It's a flavor explosion, well balanced, and filling. Plus, everyone who works here is genuinely nice. Hot tip: Score the table in front for a sweet view and the tables in the far back have the most sun for longest. read more

We learned that the spicy offerings can be made not so spicy...which is why we stayed for our Linner. M ordered Okie Pokie, not spicy add an order of shrimp skewers. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi bowl with a skewer of shrimp. The flavor was outstanding, yes a flavorful herbed brown rice with hidden gems of onion, kimchi, avocado, and the rest M loved her okie and ya know what...this little place is great. So don't walk past like I've done for the last year. Stop in and get a now to go or stay in with a friend as I hope to do later. foodguy-martin read more

Absolutely delicious! I've lived in SLO for three years and had yet to find a poke bowl spot that made me want to come back, until now. The ingredients are incredibly fresh and generously portioned with all the good stuff. The service was fast and friendly, and the space is clean, cozy, and inviting, with a cute interior and nice outdoor seating. Everyone in my group ordered poke bowls and loved them, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more of the menu! Absolutely delicious! Today was our first visit. We ordered appetizers. We ordered shrimp, skewers, and filet mignon skewers and salad. The skewers were incredible. They were flamed over a grill with amazing flavor. We will definitely be going back. read more
Solid spot to eat in Morro Bay. Came here on a Wednesday night for dinner around 6:30 and it wasn't too busy! There's a few tables inside and outdoor seating. You order at the front and they bring your food to you! The interior is super cute. 〰 OKIE POKÉ BOWL (4/5): Solid bowl! Not the best poké I've ever had but it still hits the spot after a long day on the beach. The fish is pretty fresh, I just wish there was more of it! My friends got the rock shoyu ramen and kinda similarly, not the best ramen they've ever had! They all agreed the broth had this sweetness they weren't expecting. It also wasn't spicy, despite having a chili warning on the menu! That being said, the food came out fairly quickly and it was still pretty solid. If you're looking for a bowl of ramen or a poke bowl, I'd imagine this place could curb your craving if you find yourself in Morro Bay. read more

Unexpectedly delicious find. Don't let the casual atmosphere vibe trick you into thinking this place is just another "bowl" restaurant. The food is exquisitely simple and delicious. The Burrata bowl is the freshest salad, chock full of butternut squash, daikon radish, sesame cucumbers, beets, and the freshest Burrata. Wow! Similarly the poke bowl has fresh ahi and a nice sushi style rice with ginger, daikon and fixings. Only nit was a bit too much mayonnaisey dressing - could go 1/2 as much. I didn't have room to fit the ramen with pork belly but next time. It took a while to get the bowls out but we had a peek at the kitchen and they took the time to make it right, not simply fast. Don't think twice - this place is alright!!! read more
Great spot off the beaten path and away from the busy waterfront. We went on a Saturday evening and found seating inside, nice! Believe all the hype, amazing ramen and Poke bowls! The ramen broth is rich with flavor, they use duck fat in the broth and wonderful pork belly to top it off. The poke bowl was fresh and delicious. Prices are fair and the staff is very friendly. They have beer and fountain drinks too. Don't miss this hidden gem in downtown Morro Bay! read more

Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Super cute and clean, thoughtfully decorated interior- bright, tall ceilings. Very friendly service. DELICIOUS food/ I had the poke bowl, full of pickled veggies and yummy sauce. Felt very nutritious. My neighbor had the ramen and it looked and smelled amazing as well. I'll be back! read more

Was looking forward to trying this spot all week only to have the worst customer service ever! The short brunette working tonight (4/14) didn't even greet us and said "what do you want?" We ordered our food, she responded with "you know we close in 30 minutes." We also work in the service industry so we understand & offered to close out right away. She snapped back with "yeah you should close out right now." After she said that we immediately changed our order togo. She then rolled her eyes and walked away. Did not appreciate the attitude and unwelcoming atmosphere. She also had her AirPods in the whole time. In addition, there were a couple parties that sat right before us and after we ordered. The food part: I got the miso ramen and it was way too sweet with only once tiny piece of tofu. Despite that it had great noodles. We also got the bulgogi bowl, unfortunately it was just steak on a skewer but still tasty. The rice in the bowl was also super sweet, overpowering the whole meal which made it hard to eat. This place has a lot of potential but the unwelcoming rude service made us want to never come back. :/ read more
