I love this place!!! I use to work nearby and I was here once a week, at least. It is sooooo good, and soooo cheap for what you get. The food is always fresh and tasty. Now I try to come whenever I am in the area. The lunch specials are awesome. They have Thai and Chinese options. All their curries are really good! I think my favorite is the red curry. It is rich and creamy with fresh bamboo shoots and green peppers. If you are not a big veggie person, the Panang is also really good! You can't go wrong with the Pad Thai or Pad Woon Sen. They are both traditional Thai dishes and here they do not disappoint. They are flavorful and fresh made. A perfect dish for a 1st timer. They have boba drinks and several flavors and combinations to choose from. The best dessert for me is the sweet sticky rice with homemade coconut ice cream. read more

Their Tom yum soup was gross and smelled like feet unlike the lemon grass smell and taste it's supposed to have. Cashier said I was the second person that day that sent the soup back. We had the spring rolls as an appetizer but my hungry self couldn't help but devower them without taking a picture. For the entree (picture) we had the Pad Himmaparn with chicken and Shrimp(Medium Hot) it was the right amount of spicy, and so flavorful. We also tried the Tom Yum With Shrimp Soup. Today was my first time back to Chaba Thai in almost 10 years. We had come in for a work lunch so our party was a total of 17 people. The restaurant was not busy at all for a Monday lunch time. Surprisingly for being such a large party size the server was able to make sure our drinks stayed full and the food came out in a decent amount of time. The food was okay, the lunch prices are a really good deal. I was just trying to remember why I stopped eating there and for me it's just not that great. The pad thai has a very sweet flavor to it that can be a bit overpowering. The hot and sour soup was more light and had a strong chicken base that I did not like. And if you read any of my previous reviews you would know I enjoy sweet (Texas) tea but the sweet tea here is WAY too sweet. read more

I am so utterly disappointed.. I love this restaurant and usually eat here as a special treat for my family and I. Tonight we ordered all our favs and picked it up to go like always..we begin with the soup and my husband bit into something very hard and sharp and felt a crack..he had broken his tooth and cut his mouth. This was OMIGOSH awesome. I ordered the Pad Himmaparn with pork (mildly spicey), and a friend had the Pad Kee Mow. They arrived promptly and they were nicely steaming. They. Were. INcredible. We shared a Mango Sticky Rice and it was perfect! I will now be more than willing to drive the round trip from Leakey for this!!! I can confidently say that Chaba is the best Thai restaurant in San Antonio. Way better than any best Thai restaurant that you see on the issue of Current. I didn't think that I would write this type of review but I think I should put in my two cents to warn people about this place. I ate here several months ago. I had to let some time pass to cool down. I think I am ready now to warn you that this place is quite possibly the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in and also experienced the absolute worst service in my life. I ordered my usual benchmark Thai dish: beef with green curry. It was barely edible. There were frozen peas and carrots on it. I don't know if the vegetable combo was on sale, but the various had no place in this dish and have the food a really of putting aroma. To make matters worse the rice had the consistency of mashed potatoes. I've eaten at countless Asian, Indian, Mediterranean, etc etc restaurants where PLAIN white rice is served, and in no way had it ever been in this state. How do you mess up rice? I sent it back not one, not twice, but THREE times only to be informed by a KOREAN lady that the rice spoon wad on hot water and caused the rice to turn into putty. They did not offer to make another meal or comp me a drink, nothing. Maybe the pad Thai is decent, but I think all the other reviews must either be shills or they just don't know good Thai food. The food is good. I always get either the sesame chicken or the woon sen. Both are delicious!

We dined in. It was short-staffed and service was a little slow, though it wasn't crowded. The menu is big. There were quite a few takeout orders. I did not like that my food was served in a styrofoam container with a small plastic fork, though my friend's curry was in a real bowl. The food was not bad but it was hard to cut the food with a soft fork and my noodle tasted like plastic and wasn't enjoyable. ;( It may be a Covid protocol or to save money, but styrofoam should be for takeout, not dine-in. read more

I ordered the coconut ice cream for dessert. The ice cream was good, but I expected a larger scoop for $2.99. The "pay at the front counter" concept, takes away from the better dining feel. I really love this place. Very refreshing from the same humdrum restaurants around the area. There's a reason this place is still open!! Its good!!! I love the Pad Thai. The Pad Woon Sen is delish. I order it with shrimp. The appetizer I like most is the Chaba chicken. But, I have to say that my favorite dish is the Haw Moak. They bring the Haw Moak in a steamy clay pot the seafood is cooked just right and the delicious curry is spot on!!! My first impression of the restaurant is generally appeased by the decor and simplicity of the table arrangement. The place has about 13 tables of people, which implies that people enjoy coming here. I order red curry with chicken and a chicken and rice soup for lunch. The soup arrives quickly and is moderately warm. As I take the first bite it reminds me sorely of Campbell's chicken and rice soup. Perhaps they got it out of a can? It's edible but not savory like I expected. 1/4 remains in my bowl. My main dish of red curry arrives and it seems to be as it should. Nothing looks disconcerting as the presentation is clean. Surprisingly this dish is much more appetizing. The spice is not overwhelming and the chicken is tender. I am used to curry being a slightly thinner sauce and must admit I like this thicker version. Certainly not my favorite Thai place in town, but for the south side they have met my expectations for a quick lunch. read more

We eat at Chaba Thai a lot. We live on the Southeast side. It is clean and the decor is nice, especially for a restaurant in this area. The food is always quick, fresh, hot and tasty. The prices are reasonable. They serve most of the traditional Thai dishes that other Thai restaurants serve. The staff could be a little nicer, but that also depends on who happens to be working. I can't really think of anything that stands out about this place to drive across town for, but if you live or work in the area or just happen to be close by it is a great place to stop in for a quick bite. I came here while I was in the area for work with a coworker. I ordered a green curry lunch special; My friend ordered a tom yum soup and pad Kee mao. I'm pretty sure I got the red curry, but didn't say anything because I like all curry. The curry sauce itself was good and more flavorful than I expected, but bland compared to real Thai Curry. There was SO little actual curry and a ton of rice. Whenever I order curry (other Thai places, Indian places), there is always a bowl of curry and then the rice is separate. Here, everything is on a flat plate and there's hardly any curry. The veggies looked straight out of a freezer bag (peas, corn, carrots, and green beans) and were bland and not fresh. Real Thai curry is beyond flavorful and you taste spices in every bite. Veggies are fresh and cooked in perfectly. My friends Tom Yum soup looked nothing like Tom yum soup. The broth was brown and even in color. We got a jar of chili paste, but that tasted super off, so we didn't use it. I'm glad she tasted it before I ruined my dish with it. She liked her pad kee mao though. Overall the food here tastes like a watered down version of Thai food. I wouldn't recommend if you've had authentic Thai food. read more

To be honest... I wouldn't even classify this as Thai food... more like some Chinese-American rip off of Thai food. The stir-fry was heavy, oily and lacked key ingredients. I ordered the Pad Tung Tak and it had no green onions (a main ingredient listed on the menu). The beef was so dry it looked like jerky and had a similar texture. Also, I order mango sticky rice. They didn't have mangoes, so I asked they replace them with coconut ice cream. I got the ice cream... without the sticky rice.
