We visited this restaurant to celebrate a graduation. We made reservations in advance, and the seating was arranged and ready when we arrived. Service was prompt and friendly (although there was a bit of a language barrier) and the food was prepared promptly and arrived hot. It came with a choice of soup or salad (which I didn't realize). I had the Pad Thai (always my first dish at a Thai place to establish a comparison) Thai Hot and it was pretty good. The servings are enough for two or three people, though, so I'd recommend sharing (if allowed). Sauce content felt a touch low and noodles borderline dessicated, and the primary disappointment was the chicken was pretty dry. GREAT place to get Thai food in Richmond. Thai Flavor is still my favorite but this is a good backup/alternative. We had a party of 16 (extended family - aunts, uncles, cousins) and they did a very good job accommodating to us. The staff was SUPER friendly and attentive. Food came out fast given the amount of food they had to make for us. I thought the Thai tea was not as sweet as I usually like, but still good. I enjoyed the Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Thai Fried Rice, and the Green curry. Papaya salad and Crispy fish in chili sauce were pretty good too but not my favorite. There are some good Thai restaurants in RVA and we've tried most of them. Chadar Thai is the best so far. We had Chicken Larb for an appetizer. Ordered it Thai hot and it was delicious and HOT! For entrees we had Panang chicken curry, Siam chicken and Thai Basil rice with pork. Everything was amazing. Spice levels were just right. If you're not into spicy hot food go with American hot. Even after the drive home the food is still steaming but never soggy or slimy. The portions are also very generous for the price. The menu is a few pages long but lucky for you I was able to provide it here for you guys ! They have a lunch /dinner menu with changes in price between the two. I came for lunch. The dishes offered include noodle, rice,soup, and veggie. They also have apps including spring rolls, wings, and soup. They also have alcoholic beverages along the smoothie concept which can also be virgin"ized". I had their Chadar Thai wings which were yummy. It was a few pieces, crunchy, and moist inside. I would eat this again. We also got the "sweet and sour " with meat choice of chicken, crab and shrimp fried rice, and a lunchbox that came with drunken noodles, salad, tempura, and a dessert cake I think it was. They were all tasty and in decent portions. These did come with rice btw. Usually, I do not go for Thai just because I feel they are limited to only either spicy or sweet flavors but this place was refreshing. I do not regret coming here. SCENERY. Tables and booths so if you have a huge party, probably not the best call just because you will be cramped...not bc they can't accommodate you ( that decision is not my place :) It is again intimate but can also be a casual lunch spot. Hang in there! Reviews were initially great. Chicken Satay was weird and came with white bread. Peanut sauce was just ok. Waiter didn't seem to understand Thai. Expectations dropped to the floor at that point.... But then entrees came and they were redeemed!!! Meekatee was the obvious star of the show but red curry was great as well. "American Spicy" was tolerable but made my nose run and "medium" was a nice and legitimate kick. Would order mild if sensitive. My friend told me that this place was in her opinion the best Thai food in Richmond. I absolutely love Thai food, so my sister and I went over a week ago and this did not disappoint. The Thai tea was great and the tempura was really good! I don't know what sauce was on the side of the tempura, but it was different from other places, and went well with it! For our main dish, we ordered basil fried rice with tofu and tomatoes. The spice level was American hot which is one level below the spiciest. The flavor was super super good, and the spice level was definitely spicy. I think I might go for medium next time, but this was still one of the best Thai fried rice dishes I've had! read more

And as always, the staff is very friendly and pleasant. To be honest, I was telling my wife that this place probably doesn't get much traffic because of the crappy shopping center it's in. They have improved their interior a bit but I never went there for the look just the food. The people who rate this place less than 4 stars are probably the type of people who would eat at Taco bell in Mexico rather than an authentic street cart. Man, am I glad I took other Yelpers' recommendation on this one! Chadar was de-lish! Located in a strip mall next to Big Lots, it's unassuming exterior could be easily missed. But just follow your nose (and look past Friendly's), and it will be worth it. I went last night for dinner and had a delightful meal of fresh spring rolls and red curry with veggies and tofu. Much as you'd expect, the spring rolls are served two to an order, but they are pretty skinny compared to spring rolls at other thai spots. Not a bad thing, necessarily, just not as filling as other rolls I've had. I might ask for tofu in them next time, just to give them a little oomph. As for my curry? It was superb. I ordered mild, but learning towards the medium side of the spice level, and I'm glad I chose that route. Had I gone full medium, I don't think I could have stomached it. This spiciness, on the other hand, was perfection. Not devoid of heat, but certainly not too much of a bite to enjoy the full flavors. The tofu was also much better than most Thai restaurants, with a perfectly balanced texture and a slightly buttery feel: ideal for soaking up the curry. I always love when Thai food sends me home with a second meal, and Chadar was no exception. My leftovers were just as delicious for lunch today as the freshly made dish was last night. I would recommend against ordering wine, as the pinot grigio was much sweeter than expected. The Thai beer, however, is top-notch. I go through phases with beer, and after a sip of the bf's, my second drink was a no-brainer. If you're looking for great tasting authentic Thai dishes, Chadar Thai is the best place to eat. This is the only Thai restaurant I like in Richmond. I actually didn't like Thai food because of bad experiences at other place, then my friend took me here. I've tried plenty and none compare to Chadar. Pad Thai is a dish most people are familiar with when it comes to Thai food, so I would try this first if you're skeptical. I promise you it will be the best one you've tasted. If you know a little more about your Southeast Asian foods then I would go ahead and order any of their coconut milk (Ped) curry dishes. My favorite is the Red Curry with coconut milk and seafood. Popped in here for dinner last minute not expecting much, just really hungry, but boy were we pleasantly surprised! We were the only ones in the restaurant and ordered all on our phones to be brought to the table so no yucky menus. Food and drinks came promptly. Once we took our first bites, my boyfriend and I both lit up with smiles because both meals we ordered were DELICIOUS! Definitely one of the better Thai restaurants in the Richmond area. The location is a bit odd, but it's not a big deal. The service is great and so is the food. One thing that is different about this Thai restaurant is that most of the entrees are vegetarian friendly. Almost all of the options can have meat substituted for tofu. I like this because it doesn't limit you and you can have many different options when ordering. Most other Thai restaurants do not give you much of an option. Last night, we decided to give it another try, and we were very pleased with our experience. So Chadar Thai is back on the rotation list! My husband ordered basil beef, and it actually came with pretty large portion. It had a lot of basil and made it very delicious. Hubby ordered Thai hot, but it was not that spicy (not compared to Ginger Thai Thai hot or Mom's Siam's). I wanted a change from drunken noodle, and the server recommended Ginger Noodle, and it was really good. We also ordered the virgin smoothie (#4 with mangosteen) and it was creamy and delicious. We have decided to try Pad Thai at every Thai place within 10 miles of Henrico. We picked 2 tofu Pad Thai orders for lunch. The servings were huge and we had leftovers. The tofu was cooked perfectly and were in good balance with the sprouts and noodles. The price was very good- around 17 for two people which also included a decent crispy roll. I have had dine in service before and the place is clean. It's located in a strip mall next to Big Lots so the location is nothing that is noteworthy. I can't say it's my favorite Pad Thai sauce, not bad, just not "special". If you are craving big portions for the price you won't be disappointed. Went here on another outing with classmates/friends. Service was a little bit slow (and they forgot my water), but we had a pretty large group. I ordered the roasted duck w/basil (medium hot) and a papaya salad (American hot). I regret getting American hot for the papaya salad because it was SO spicy! I was sweating but I finished it off with the help of plenty of water. The duck dish was sweet in comparison. Both dishes were excellent and delicious though! We asked to have our check split at the beginning, which they were willing to accommodate. FYI: we had to pay individually at the cashier at the end, and they only accepted credit cards, not debit/check cards. Overall, a great Thai restaurant, just a little far from campus! =) read more

My first time here was several years ago and the only thing I remember getting was the mango sticky rice dessert which was very good. Came her for a late dinner around 8 and the restaurant was about half full. It's a little dark in this restaurant and I think towards the back they have a party room? There was a lot of noise coming from back there but not enough to ruin our meal. I was in the mood for some curry so I got the vegetable Yellow Curry (medium spicy) which had with coconut milk, potato, pineapple and carrots. It came with broccoli but that was only vegetable that came with it besides the base curry of vegetables. I love coconut based curry dishes and this was pretty decent. It wasn't as thick as I would have liked it but it was still flavored well. Vegetables could have been cooked a little longer though. I think next time I will try to get the shrimp curry or one with protein. This probably won't be my go to Thai place, but it's definitely better than some other spots in Carytown.. read more

Absolutely love Chadar Thai, I swear I eat here once a week at this point. It's a little unassuming hole-in-the-wall place but don't let that deter you, their food is fantastic both dining in and delivered. Some of the best Thai red curry I've ever had, especially recommend the Curry Noodle bowl (American hot!) if you love spicy food. Try it with the tofu, it absorbs so much of the flavor. If you ARE going hot, get a Thai tea or iced coffee to help cool down from the heat, they're life savers. The best time to come is for lunch as their lunch specials are fantastic: come with a soup or salad, main entree, and a dessert and it's plenty of food. Bonus points, this place is great for vegetarian options as you can get most dishes made with either tofu or veggies. Do watch out for fish (Thai uses a lot of fish/oyster sauce) if you don't eat fish though. When I got there I was told that I still needed to pay because it said that I had to pay in the store at pick up. When I got back to my car I checked my email and was charged 2 times. As I was checking my account I received to phone calls from Chadar Thai to let me know what happened. I was still irritated when I went back in to get re-credited for the extra charge. So They were great at catching it and calling me quickly but still just make sure that you were charged once through eat street. The waiters are very friendly and don't disturb you much except to refill the much needed water. It is next to the Big Lots Had the Drunken Noodles and Pad See Ew.
