The food was very good but my companion and I both ordered a heat level of 1. Fortunately mine was the hotter.

Chadar Thai Ratings: 3.8/5 Food: 3.75/5 - I am a big fan of Thai food, and my goal is to try all Thai places in the Richmond area. Chadar Thai was close to my gym, and I heard pretty good things about them from my sister, so I invited her and some of my other friends here for dinner. Dinner was solid, but just your typical Thai spots here. Please see the description of the green curry that I got here. - Green Curry w/ Chicken [GET]: I like the green curry a lot, it was packed with flavors and spices. It has a lighter consistency and not as thick or creamy as other green curries I have had, but still tasty. Ingredients such as the eggplants, bamboo shoots, and peppers were fresh and cooked perfectly. I wasn't a big fan of the chicken, it was slightly overcooked and hard to chew at times. I wished it was more tender and juicy. I got medium for my spicy level, but if you are into spicy food, then get American or the Thai hot. Solid choice here, but I have had better curries in RVA. Ambiance: 3.75/5 - It is located in a strip shopping center, right next to Big Lots and from the exterior, it doesn't really look like a restaurant. However, interior was better than expected when you step in; it's super causal and dimly lit. It was clean, spacious, and quiet too. There's a plenty of tables and booths available for indoor dining, so this is an ideal place for a date if you are looking for somewhere quiet. Looks like a hole-in-the-wall place, but elevated in a way. Price: 4/5 - The prices listed here are based on the type of protein you select. I got the chicken green curry for $12.95, and I believe it increases to $15.95 for the seafood combo. The price is pretty standard and similar to most Thai places here in RVA. In terms of worthiness, I'd say it's a good spot for a satisfying dinner, and definitely will fill you up. I just have a big appetite, so I was just okay. Service: 3.75/5 - There was only one staff working, but it wasn't too busy. He was polite and friendly, bought us water as soon as we sat down and took our orders. Although when I ask for food suggestions, he seems impatient and was very vague about it and was not that helpful. It was an okay experience, and he checked in with us once, so I am not complaining too much. BLUF: Decent and affordable Thai place, and I liked my experience there. I do not see myself returning anytime soon as I am trying to try all the different Thai places in the area at the moment. If you do stop by, I recommend their Thai curries and skip on the noodles, since most of my friends there were not a fan of their noodles dish.

Parking is available on the side, or you can usually find street parking nearby. I really liked the industrial atmosphere, especially the swings, but we ended up sitting closer to the bar area. Our server was super nice, and the service was quick throughout the meal. FOOD REVIEW Sabai Platter - 3/5 Not bad for shareable during happy hour, but some of the items were just okay. Pad Thai - 4/5 The flavors and spice level were balanced really well. Pla Muk Tod (Calamari) - 4/5 Good overall, but I wasn't a big fan of the dipping sauce. Pik Gai Tod (Wings) - 4/5 Flavorful and really good. Moo Sam Chan (Fried Pork Belly) - 4/5 Tasty and flavorful, though a little over-sauced for my preference. DRINK REVIEW Thai Tea - 5/5 Refreshing and enjoyable. Thai Mojito - 5/5 Really good and refreshing as well. Overall, good food, great drinks, and friendly service.

We had to chase down waiters to order anything, everything didn't come out the same time, and zero hospitality. Fast forward now to last week. A group of 9 of us come in for our wedding weekend and they thought we had 8 people not 9. They try to seat us on the swinging seats which can't even fit our 8 people. NOT ONCE did they try to help us, move us, offer to do ANYTHING. They literally stared at us not saying a word. We asked if we could have two tables, no. Have a stool to add, no. Wait for a larger table outside, no. Just absolutely the worst hospitality or lack there of I have ever had. This place has had issues with staff for years. Unfortunately it's now costing them consistent customers as we are not the only ones this has happened to. We ended up leaving and going to another Thai restaurant. If you want to be ignored and stared at with dead fish eyes this is the place for you.

The Thai food here SLAPS! The dining area is fairly small, maybe about 10-12 tables, can see it filling up pretty quickly. Our server was super friendly and attentive (forgot her name) and was so nice to our noisy toddler haha. Food came out at pretty good pace and app, entrees and food didn't all come out at the same time which was nice. You HAVE to get their Thai sausage appetizer - If they made this an entree, I would get it every single time. The sausage is perfectly balanced with lean and fat and packed full of Thai flavor and spices. For my entree I got the Thai fried rice with chicken and this portion is HUGE, was able to take some home and easily serve it as another meal. The fried rice was so tasty and fried chicken was perfectly fried and came with a nice sweet and sour sauce too. My wife loved the pad se ew and got to take home her food as well. If this place was closer to us, it would be not good for our wallets. If you want delicious and authentic Thai food, look no further than Yak Yai!
