I use to come with my husband and really liked it but recently they are always out of lengua and my husband use to get the "torta ahogada mixta" that had lengua, carnitas and buche but today they were out of lengua and buche‍‍ and I feel that the carnitas are a little to dry and don't really have any flavor‍. When I go to Chago I go alone. To be honest the waitresses have patience , and some customers are so rude to them on a busy day. I've only had an issue once and that was due to an attitude but I have never ever ran into an Amazing waitress like Moka. My god this woman has so much patience and kindness regardless of how busy and impatient some customers may be. I appreciate the waitresses and the staff for the hard work . This little hole in the wall is yummy. Don't knock it till you try it. It gets packed! They are know for their tacos and tortas mainly and personally I prefer the tacos. Why? Cause they are bomb! You choose your tacos either potatoe or beans (they are fried) then u choose the meat you want (I recommend carnitas) which goes on top of the tacos with cabage, onion, tomatoe sauce, and the spicy speciality sauce, add some lime. The parking isn't the greatest but you can also park on the street. More than likely you have to wait to be seated so don't get discouraged though it's worth it and this place is known to be busy all the time. read more

Everyone kept ignoring us or telling us that they'll be back and never came back, waited 30 minutes to get someone to take our order, paid $50 for the food and paid for extra sauce bags, waited another 45min to get the food, drove back home to Pomona only to NOT get ANY of the sauce for the tortas ahogadas even ones i paid for. I normally don't mind the wait, but i was too in a hurry to check my order before I left and came home without ANY tomato sauce. Torta bolillo is super hard, the sauce is only flavor less tomato sauce, they have the spicy sauce on the side just doesn't seem to go well, Michelada mix taste a lot like celery. While looking for an authentic torta ahogada I found this local spot. Came here with my family was was pleasantly delighted. However, be careful ordering the HOT salsa version of the torta which is extremely HOT sauce. I mistakenly ordered the HOT version and was met with an unpleasant experience (my fault). I then ordered the milder tomato sauce version which was pretty darn good. Additionally, I ordered a couple of their fried bean and potato tacos which were outstanding. Overall good experience, good service and clean business. Only reason I am not giving this eatery a 5/5 is due to prices, somewhat overpriced. read more

The food is always delicious and I'm always treated well I've met the owner a couple times and even took a picture with him. The tortas are just like the ones I ate in Guadalajara as a kid. People that aren't used to this style of Torta might be confused about the bread but that's the style of bread that makes it original and authentic and taste just how it does. This was the last eatery I ate last Saturday on our beer crawl before we bought more craft beers to enjoy at my friends residence. He said this place was highly recommend by a person he knew so I had to try it out. Location: its somewhat in a more where the demographics cater to the locals, and the style of food is definitely represent that. The outside looks a bit under the weather, but the interior sure looks different. They have their own parking lot, but it sure does get packed easily, as soon we're done with our meal, people were waiting, and the lot was pretty full. Atmosphere: the location has a diner look to it, i felt that guy fiery was going to pop up out of nowhere and say "welcome to flavortown". The have a waiting list where you can put your name if the wait is epic. The staff speaks both English and Spanish so don't worry of them not understanding your gringo language. Food: the food falls flat on its face. I don't consider myself a Michelin chef or a James beard chef, the carnitas has a burnt taste from siting on the pot for too long without any stiring. The sauce used felt like the just add too much thicker(flour) since a more doughy profile was in there. The bread was too tough/chewy, I understand it has to soak up the broth and stuff. Yet it doesn't really break when you bite on it. Conclusion: I didn't decide on this place. A new place is always to get to experiment with, it may suite your taste. So try them out. read more

They don't answer the phone so clearly it means they are not open, what I don't like is the fact that they don't put a voice recorder that says they're not open today! Last time I went down there to see if it was open because they weren't answering and clearly it was closed. Very nice people and VERY tasty food! We wanted to share a torta, and the restaurant staff kindly offered to split it for us and gave it to us on two separate plates. The bread was amazing - just what you want on a torta ahogada; didn't get soggy or mushy, but did absorb the liquid quite nicely. The horchata is also made in house and is delicious. read more

Came here for some take out while playing bingo on a Sunday afternoon across the street at the Armenian Center. There were plenty of families waiting to get a booth for brunch/lunch. We got tacos and they were different from what I am used to. A fried tortilla filled with a smattering of your choice of beans or potatoes inside. Then some really great chunks of carnitas were laid on top. The condiments were limes, pickled onions, cabbage, red sauce and hot sauce. It tasted fine, but fried tortillas are a little too much oil for me. I added all the condiments and hot sauce on top and kind of made it into a tostada. I made a point of reading the reviews before coming in. I'm a HUGE fan of tortas ahogadas so I definitely wanted to make sure I scoped this place out. Of course, I have yet to eat authentic tortas ahogadas like they serve in Guadalajara but this place is not as bad as people make it out to be. The location is very visible as it is on a Main Street. They have a huge parking lot plus tons of street parking - so I don't know how others couldn't find parking here. The place has a 50's diner look to it - not very Mexican but whatever. I dig it. The walls are covered in pictures by what I can assume is the owner with many Latino celebrities. There's a sign at the entrance to wait to be seated but I took it upon myself to sit myself down since the only waitress was busy helping other customers. Another worker stopped by a few minutes later to drop off a menu and some tortilla chips and green salsa. The salsa WAS delicious! A little spicy but still good & tortilla chips needed some salt. The place was fairly empty and a bit dirty- one of the reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars. It looked like they had just overcome a huge rush and hadn't quite finished cleaning up the floor or tables. Now on to the tortas - they are their main dish but they do have other options as well. On the menu it CLEARLY asks how you want your torta: Salsa only, Media Ahogada or Full Ahogada. I'm assuming if your torta tasted like tomato sauce, it's because that's probably what you ordered. I ordered the media ahogada because from experience, I do know that tortas can get VERY spicy. Tortas ahogadas are very simple- bread, meat, sauce and onions. THATS IT. My food arrived fairly quickly and yes, it was warm and fresh. The onion slices were a bit thick for my taste, but it might be because I don't even like onion. They waitress also brought out extra hot sauce in case I wanted to add more to my torta but surprisingly enough, the media ahogada is pretty spicy!! It took me a while to get through it because my mouth was pretty much burning. The salsa roja had a really good taste to it as well. The bread was also very good. A little note for the ones who complained that it was hard, it's kind of supposed to be. Tortas ahogadas are made with birote salado that is a lot harder than your regular birote. Reason being, is that you don't want your torta to fall apart when it gets drenched in the salsa. You're welcome. This place is honestly not as bad as people make it out to be. Customer service is obviously not one of their strong suits but the ladies here are nice. If you're looking for a place that waits hand and foot on you then this might not be the best place for you. If you're here to simply enjoy a good torta ahogada then this is your spot. I will definitely be coming back. read more

I first had these Tortas at the LA sports arena when they catered to the stage workers and AV techs setting up a concert for the radio station LA Raza. These Tortas were the bomb I can't begin to say how much other places have lied to me with their imitations because this place makes the real deal. I happen to know the man who managed Vicente Fernandez concerts and his wife introduced this place to him and its their personal favorite Torta place. (Ambiance) it's a nice bright place, it had an old school diner appeal to it with two Flat screen tvs playing Latin artists singing or futbol. (Food). The Tortas are meant to be drenched in a sauce. They are originally just dunked in their hot sauce come in three different but they have different styles to accommodate the non spicy people. spice levels 1. Ahogada (spicy) 2. Media "medium" Ahogada (half sauce/hot sauce ) 3.Just sauce. Other than the Tortas their potato tacos are pretty bomb and crispy. You could add lettuce and onions to it highly recommend at least one. Just a little history Tortas Ahogadas are traditionally supposed to be dipped into hot sauce its about the spiciness. The tomato sauce dip is to water down the hot sauce if you got anything less than Ahogada spicy for those that can handle the traditional heat experience but maintain the tomato flavor of the hot sauce. The Tortas bread is supposed to be tough and crisp for one reason it keeps the Torta together for a longer period of time than a soft piece of wonder bread so don't get upset about it being tough its supposed to be like that and to be honest who really wants a soggy Torta really? If you don't like onions thats ok don't get any the hot sauce is supposed to be strong and the onions are almost like a balancing act just put some lemon on it and it works out so well. It really doesn't get better. Food was great, service was amazing. It was my first time there and I had ordered the torta mixta, I figured I'd give it a try and it was good but preferably I should have gotten the carnitas because deep down I know I don't like the texture of buche, I only ended up eating half of my torta because it wasn't cut right and I realized I wasn't the biggest fan of the mixed meats, however the taste was great. The owner came to our table and noticed how my plate looked since all that was left was a bunch of pieces of bread and random pieces of meats, he then asked what was the problem and if there was anything he can do for us, he happily offered me half of a carnitas torta free of charge and it was AMAZING. They made sure I enjoyed my food and easily took criticism. I also got a carnitas taco dorado and it was top tier. Love the authenticity of this place and will definitely go back. read more
